Located in one of the best neighborhoods in Paris that used to be the artists' quarters, this museum is a real hidden gem and one of the few Parisian art studios that are still in place and unchanged from late 19th - early 20th century. Antoine Bourdelle was an amazing sculptor who worked in Auguste Rodin's studio for almost 15 years and later in his life he taught Alberto Giacometti and Henry Matisse. There is a sculpture studio, a painting studio, an exposition in Chronological order and a great hall that includes some of his most famous works. At the end of his life, Antoine Bourdelle planned to turn it into a museum, but it would have probably been destroyed if not for other art lovers' intervenance. Many well known art studios disappeared when the neighborhood was modernised (like for example, Brâncuşi Studio). I think it's one of the most peaceful museums in Paris and definitely special as it is not crowded and you can have your time to admire the art and understand it's history and meaning, or simply be in a contemplative state of mind as you are surrounded by nature and sculptures.

If you find yourself in Paris with some spare time then I would suggest you have a look at the Bourdelle museum in Montparnasse. The museum is free and takes you through the works of Antoine Bourdelle, a sculptore extraordinaire. He was a student of Rodin and taught amongst others Matisse. There is a marvellous little garden at the front where you can soak up some sun whilst admiring some of his work if you want to take it easy. Otherwise you can easily spend an hour or so walking around the museum and his old studio. Don't miss the garden path at the back for some of his work in a nice setting. A great and free museum at the heart of the city.

My most favorite musée in Paris. It’s smaller than Rodin but less touristy, and because of that it’s more serene and feels more intimate. I especially love Bourdelle’s atelier. The interior feels like the perfect fit for his work to be put there. The ambience, the colors of the walls, the sunlight from its paneled windows — everything creates the mood just right. A must visit in Paris!

Love it! Well curated museum with works and history of the artist beautifully presented. Took me by surprise what I could take away from it. Not just about appreciating the sculptures, but also understanding the different sculpturing techniques presented in a visually engaging way. And the plus point, that it’s a free entry museum. Worth a visit!

One of the best museum in Paris. Hidden in the Montparnasse surroundings, superb building full of impressive sculptures. Not as well known as Rodin or Giacometti but really inspiring artist, Antoine Bourdelle makes a link between Ancient Greek sculpture and the utmost modernism. Et en plus ils organisent des événements topissimes pour la nuit des musées. A VOIR

Nearby Montparnasse train station, this museum is free but the special exhibition (dedicated to back dress fashion). Mainly dedicated to sculptures from Bourdelle and other masters. It has little gardens and courtyards hiding quite interesting pieces

I was surprised that the entrance is free. And the statues were impressive, especially the size, they were bigger than I expected.

Upon entering this museum I wasn’t sure, at first, that I would like it. However, as I began examining these sculptures in more detail I became increasingly drawn to Bourdelle’s work. Many of his sculptures are very engaging, asking the viewer to imagine the people depicted and to examine their lives and their stories. It was perhaps the “Mask of Beethoven” that left the deepest impression but there were a number of others, also, that will long remain with me. Each of us must discover his or her own.

It took me around an hour and a half to explore this wonderful museum. I went during the first Sunday of the month and the place is not crowded. I liked the detailed explanation about the process of the bronze statues. Most of the explanations and captions have an English explanation so it is easier to understand. I really learned a lot during this visit.

FREE MUSEUM Certain parts of the museum you need to book an appointment. The rest of the museum is open and it was a great intro museum if you just arrived in Paris.

Great surprise. The sculptor's large collection housed in multiple buildings including his original studios, modern additions and outdoor gardens. Free entry for what can take an hr and half to review the life story and creative career.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum. The visit is free, stimulating, and approachable. The museum isn’t too big (you won’t get lost and you’ll have time to see everything). The employees are kind, the garden is lovely, and there is also a café upstairs (where you can also have lunch).

A beautiful atelier-museum, well worth a visit and stroll through the gardens. The only difficulty I encountered was the distance from a convenient metro line. If you’re up for walking, check this place out!

Superb museum if you're an aspiring artist. Lots of material to draw from. Bourdelle was a very prolific artist, so you'll have loads of subjects here. Your mileage may vary depending on if you want to spend time analyzing the sculptures, but most of them are of very high quality. I was also astounded by the size of the statues in the side hall. Really recommend the visit!

I am not an expert in sculpture, but I don't need to be one to appreciate this museum. Great choice of works, beautiful gardens and, most importantly, an initiation in the universe of Bourdelle's rare talent. I will certainly recommend it to my friends.

This museum is a real gem! There is an excellent range of workshops for children and the prices are more than fair so that everyone can have access to culture. Bravo for your initiatives. And a very big thank you to the facilitator Amélie for her kindness and kindness during the workshops for the little ones!

We passed a lovely hour and a half at this museum, we had some time to pass before a booking at the The Parks Catacombs so visited here. Part of the museum (the plaster room) was closed that day but we really enjoyed seeing all of the sculptures in the garden and learned a lot about the whole bronze sculpture process. We found the museum very interesting. We were a party of ages 8-68 and all found it a good visit. We didn’t book in advance and the museum was very quiet.

Very good museum full of statues of all kinds and all sizes. Also available to visit the workshop where the artist used to work. This museum is also showing temporary exhibition on topics related to the sculptor (fashion and bodies in 2019) to mix the modern and anciens arts.

Quirky museum near Montparnasse Station, though in a very quite little backstreet area. Dramatic art deco sculpture, and a nice little cafe restaurant overlooking the courtyard.

Interesting museum, but the cafe absolutely ruined our experience. The service was awful and rude. We had a cappuccino for €6 each (abysmal price for an average cappuccino) and I wasn’t even allowed to sit by a table because we weren’t having food. Then when I proceeded to help the server out she was rude once again. Disappointing even for French service. Would revisit the museum but never spend a dime at the cafe again.

The Musée Bourdelle is magnificent! The beautiful courtyard and garden walk way housing Antoine Bourdelle's sculptures is a perfect backdrop for a peaceful awe inspiring afternoon. The sculptures in the gallery are breathtaking. Currently (July-November 2019) Palais Galleria is showing an exhibit celebrating fashion from behind...garments with the focus on the back. Absolutely magical! This little gem in the 15th arrondissement is a must visit when in Paris for those of us who prefer a more intimate museum experience.

This was such an unexpected gem! Almost hidden the unassuming entrance led to an Alice in Wonderland sort of experience. Expect to be wowed. The museum is beautifully maintained, and the artwork is stunningly impressive and well presented. And the cherry on this cake of delights is that entrance to this museum is free.
