A wonderful and huge, and I mean very extensive, museum of French military history. I cannot overstate the size of this place, I spent four hours in the wings covering the two world wars alone. And there is so much more to see! The exhibit titles are in several languages, but the full explanation is all in French. You can get audio guides but I just read the signs as best I could. Don't forget to see the Tomb of Napoleon while you're here, it's pretty unforgettable.

It was a very good experience although the place was a little messy in terms of where to see what. Kind of a little maze, but very well put together. The exhibits were of good taste. Some of the people working in the museum has trouble trying to converse in other languages other than French. Would revisit again in the future.

Series of museums dedicated to military history, as well as the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. You can spend several hours in here. The museum provides in depth information into the history and context, in English and French, from the Middle Ages until modern times. It may not be for everyone’s taste, but if you like history, this is a good way of spending your time. If not, you may visit only Napoleon’s tomb, one of the city landmarks. Overall, recommended!

Amazing place. A must visit for those who are interested in History. Spent there almost all day (during the operations hours of the museum) and still did not manage to visit all exhibitions. The details and the amount of equipment are breathtaking and the way the information is displayed makes it accessible for a large public, for different ages and in different languages. The WW1 and WW2 exhibitions were ones of the best.

Top military museum, unrivaled collection. Unfortunately it is curatorially hobbled for non-Francophone audience. Museum offers little English. That's astounding for a major museum with resources to get it right. English is inconsistent and usually entirely absent. Sometimes it is present on high-level, larger placards. Sometimes for such high-level placards, French is in a big typeface, and English, German, and Spanish are squashed in tiny, unreadable typefaces. Most captions throughout the museum are only French. Time and again I hoped to learn about amazing artifacts, but descriptions were not translated. Such a museum can and should do better. I hope curators embrace well-established multilingual techniques on a consistent, museum-wide basis. During my visit, two thirds of security personnel/room minders were talking on their phones, doing something else on their phones, or sleeping. The latter two activities do not detract from my visit. However the four guards who were talking on their phones most definitely detracted from my visit as well as the experiences of other visitors present in their vicinity. Highly unprofessional, not just once or twice but with consistency. If museum Management ever walked through the galleries, they would observe the same.

An incredible museum place to visit in Paris. There are so many amazing things to see both the the tomb of Napoléon Boneparte and the volume of amour and médiéval weaponry is astounding. The indoor building is very beautiful. Highly recommend this place to visit. A must in Paris. Entrance cost 14euros for adult.

There is a lot to take in here. A whole day and you won't see everything. Very well laid out exhibits with everything very clear. Most displays are also in English which is helpful when your French is as bad as mine. Children under 18 are free which was a nice bonus.

The museum is huge and if you are a history fanatic you can spend the whole day there. Even though the WW1 and WW2 sections are temporarily closed (until summer 2023) I spend around 4 hours navigate myself around the exhibitions. For sure the part related to Napoleon's era is the most interesting. Finally the section of Charles Degaulle is also unique.

One of the most impressive museums I ever visited. The thumb of Napoleon is also here, in the chapel. Pretty amazing place to visit in Paris.

The place is huge. Different buildings with different epochs of the army history. It is nice but you need to like army stuff. The dome was beautiful and I loved the decorations and the tombs. It takes time go prepare tk spend at least the afternoon.

Thunderous applause to the people who defended and sacrificed their lives for their nation, and another applause for the special evening film projected inside the courtyard walls of the Army Museum. Impressive French narration and film of the wars and battles fought by Napoleon I and the successive wars. The walls of the museum burn, twist, disappear as breathtaking sounds and glorious history come alive, tinged with sorrow and aching memories. Tickets should be bought in advance and take care to prepare for incremental weather.

Ticket is 14 euros. This museum is not for everyone. I love military history and I enjoyed it however it is not for people who don’t like military history. Museum has three sections. Louis XIV, Napoleon Bonaparte and Charles De Gaulle. It covers French revolution, Napoleonic Wars, First and Second World Wars. Museum has two different sections and it is easy to miss other section if you don’t have museum map. I enjoyed dresses, I feel old military uniforms are really fashionable.

Sometimes confused with L'hôtel des Invalides, this attached museum likely holds more military history for the nation than any other location in the country. The offensive and defensive assets housed in the armory section alone is a dream for anybody with a fondness for older weaponry.

Museum focusing on the exploits of France’s rich military history. This complex of museums provides major exhibits from dozens of suits of armor, muslim captured crusader cannons, and every worthwhile type of poking and slashing instrument one can imagine, through the Napoleonic era, and into modern war in WW1 and WW2. There is an audio tour, which we highly recommend that provides insight and storylines into some of the more unique artifacts, and several other ongoing programs, so check the website before going. Further the museum offers English and French interpretation through almost all of the complex and also offers in depth strategic overviews of different battles through video and in actual footage in some cases. I could have a stayed here for days but needed to stay married.

Amazing museum! Cost about $15 Euros, can get a ticket there or online (getyourguide). A tourist attraction, but cheap to see the great architectures, statues, Napoleon's tomb, cannons, etc. Has a lot of history that is explained a bit next to certain monuments. The place is surprisingly clean and has a restaurant nearby the museum. Worth it if you're a fan of history, taking pictures/videos, and exploring things to do in Paris 🇫🇷

For me a dream became a reality when I saw the tomb of the emperor Napoleon. I love French history and this was a culmination of a dream. Although from a military perspective the Museum is very rich, a lot of artefacts can also be seen in the UK. Would recommend visiting the house of the Duke of Wellington in London and the British museum to fully appreciate the French history, the French Revolution and the Napoleon era. Strangely enough the tomb of Napoleon III is in the UK. The tomb is by far the most incredible I have ever seen, good enough even for a god.

I saw Napoleon's tomb, as expected. However, I happened to be there at the same time everyone saw that it turned out napoleon wasn't dead and he took over Europe again but finally we caught him for the second time. Jokes aside, it was nice and I would recommend the garden outside as it is free (if you go into the museum) and extremely peaceful.

Very big. Tickets are 10 euro for adult free for minors. Massive cathedral in the middle. You can light candle for 3 euro. There is museum for ww2 and ww1. And also french secret service and French resistance in ww2. Also a holocaust part. There is restaurant and Cafe outside. You are subject to bag check by police before entrance. Metro station is 3 min walk away.

I'll be honest, this museum wasn't of interest to me, but I went there because of my bf. I give it 5 stars because it has so many things to look at and learn about! You can spend several hours in there. We had to speed through the last area because our feet were tired. It feels so worth the money you pay, which isn't much, because of its extensive collections. The church was a nice addition, too. This museum is definitely worth visiting, especially if you prefer to avoid places with too many tourists.

Spent hours here, much longer than expected, there was simply too much to see. Napoleons grave was beautiful and very informative but the highlight was the relief maps in the attic that were so extensive and detailed. The museum is much more than war and violence and provides in depth information into the history and context. But if you are into the military side there is also lots of weapons, armour, uniform and more!

Absolutely next level!! This is super cool (if history and army strategy is your thing)! Take the option of the digital tour (headsets in many languages), it made all the difference especially with the kids. Really awesome, reflective experience.

Wonderful place that is not overcrowded even at busy times (we visited christmas). The expositions are huge - from antiquity to modern army equipment. Stunning city miniatures, cannons, uniforms. WW2 expositions are the best I've seen so far. The dome where Napoleon is also worth visiting. Reservations are not needed although you may purchase tickets online. Kids are free.

I'm a big fan of history and the museum attended my expectations. A variety of things to see, and tells a lot about the story of France, loved it. Some good stuff about World War 2. Just would say to plan your trip before, there should by some kind of linear schedule to see everything, I got lost and didn't see everything 😅

An impressive collection of French military history displaying arms and armour, the period from Louis XIV to Napoleon, the World Wars, and a historical on Charles de Gaulle, amongst others. And not to forget the impressive tomb of Napoleon. Just a shame when buying a ticket online that you have to sign up for an account; now I have to work out how to delete that.

The setup is really nice, you pass through history from early war history till the latest. The entry point is where you’ll know about battles that took place thousand years ago and then step by step you’ll reach to the wars of modern era and will learn how they developed the war equipments from time to time

If you are a fan of history, and especially military history, I would recommend visiting this place. A lot of great pieces from middle ages (including the armor of Louis the 14th and king Emanuel of Portugal) and the era of Napoleon. Napoleon tomb is right nearby. Also, large section on De Gaul and Resistance.

If you are a history buff, who likes the french army history, French Revolution, WWII, Napoleon you shouldn't skip and come and visit this place. I think this is one of those underrated museums it is very different from Musee d'Orsay or Louvre.

As a big history and military fan I really enjoyed their massive collection. From first weapons used in ancient history till the most recent conflict they cover everything. I especially enjoyed seeing so many different selections of medieval armors, and the WW2 area. You will gain new views on history and expand your knowledge. I could compare this Army Museum in Paris with the Louvre only art is replaced with weapons. Tip: Napoleon's tomb is just nearby so don't skip it as it is magnificent

Very nice museum, mostly focused on French military history and escpecially on the napoleonic Era. It has a good combination of art and military relics. And of course there is the napoleonic tomb in this building. It also does not have any waiting lines to go there. The museum is also very secure due to it being property of the French army.

Located in the heart of Paris, this historical building is not only beautiful but filled with priceless--must-see--French history. Napoleon's tomb is even located here.

One of the best museums I've ever isited- multiple videos and models that show battle progression and discuss army tactics. There is no way you will leave this museum uneducated. A top notch dedication! Highly recommend for those interested in these things.

  • 4/5 Peter T. 2 years ago on Google
Very thorough exhibits. Great intetactive representations of battles and how they evolved. The history of victories is the history of modern Europe. The rise and fall of Dictators. Learn from past mistakes or be condemned to repeat them.

This is a lovely place for people who like history. It's incredible to know the great War history of France but you should take 4 hours minimum to see everything!

  • 5/5 Natalie D. 4 months ago on Google
This is a fantastic museum which covers a lot of history of the armed forces in France. There are multiple sites included in your ticket including Napoleon's tomb and the different museums within the site ranging from the World Wars to armour and Napoleon. Their collection is so vast and there's so many great examples from rifles to suits of armour. The museums too are very comprehensive and are generally chronological so easy to follow along even if it's not a subject you're very well read on. I think my favourite section was the World Wars- it's very well done and I found it really interesting from the French perspective. It's a big site with lots to see- easily a full day visit if you're into history! There's a very big gift shop and a restaurant too. The only downside is the renovations going on at the moment. Basically it means there's a number of closed off entrances to certain sections of the museum and the alternative route is very confusing to find with a lot of signage not updated. For us, we couldn't find Napoleon's section and only stumbled on it by going through the wrong door- if there's something you really want to see, ask at the main ticket office and get directions! The other thing I'd say is you have to scan your ticket at the entrance to each museum section so have it ready- the staff aren't the most patient with phone /brightness problems!

The First part of the path that leads to Napoleon's mausoleum. A very interesting museum. I suggest the section dedicated to antique weapons and armors and the one dedicated to WW2

  • 5/5 Angela C. 1 year ago on Google
Great museum that has a lot of antique weapons and tells stories of France's military side of conflict and how it evolved over time. Well curated and you literally walk through the timeline of different major wars and events. Worth visiting especially if you're a history buff! We went on a Saturday afternoon using Paris Museum pass and it was not crowded. It took us probably around an hour and a half going through WWI and WWII section. After, we visited Napoleon's tomb nearby.

  • 5/5 Robbie 2 years ago on Google
This museum exceeded expectations. The collection is impressive in both quality and quantity. Especially the napoleonic and the World wars exhibitions are very impressive.

  • 5/5 Dan E. 2 years ago on Google
Great exhibits of medieval armor and weapons, though WWII. Lots of fanboy tributes to Napoleon and DeGualle. The miniatures and topographical maps were neat, with some maps over 300 years old.

  • 5/5 Shannah D. 7 months ago on Google
This museum has a wealth of information. I recommend starting at level -1. This is the life of Charles de Gaul and it intertwines WWI and WWII. The movie is fantastic. The other level have valuable information on WWI and WWII.

  • 5/5 Cameron J. 2 years ago on Google
The tomb is a very impressive structure and display. The army museum is very interesting but at times hard to follow for non-french readers, much of the information is only in French. I would recommend getting the audio guide to help get the most of your visit.

  • 5/5 Navid S. 1 year ago on Google
A great collection of weapons and uniforms from various eras. That's a wonderful experience to visit Napoleon's tomb. A must visit museum in paris. It will take at least 5-6 hours to visit the whole museum.

  • 5/5 S B. 1 year ago on Google
3rd visit and still haven’t covered most of the museum’s show rooms yet. Huge complex including Napoleons tomb, 2-3 temporary exhibit spaces, square with canons, a dedicated Charles de Gaulle gallery. You could spend a week here (or just keep coming back each time you’re in Paris). Limited English translations but enough to understand each room and sub themes. Some exhibitions are better translated than others (generally in Paris temporary exhibitions are not translated and only in French). Google translate camera will do the trick!

  • 5/5 Joseph K. 1 year ago on Google
We really enjoyed this museum! The ancient armor and weapons exhibits were really amazing. The grounds too are beautiful. A little less crowded than the other major museums in Paris, this was welcome.

  • 5/5 David S. 11 months ago on Google
Spent 4 hours here and only saw 25% of this amazing museum. I wish more exhibits had audio guide descriptions in English. Sadly the WWII section was closed the day we went.

  • 5/5 Barbara P. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely incredible army museum! Collection is so extensive and diverse! So if you think about going there, give yourselves at least 4 hours to see all the expositions.

  • 4/5 Kevin R. 11 months ago on Google
The tomb of Napoleon is very impressive. I have seen pictures but they really don't do it justice. The rest of the army museum is interesting however it is an exhaustive collection so after some time you yourself may feel exhausted from cannons, armor, and swords. It's a very large museum and you could spend many trips and not see everything.

Sunday June 11, 2023 The Army Museum Napoleon tomb Marechal Foch tomb The WW1 & 2 section is temporarily closed The bus tour time limted what I could see. Saw a great building. Very extensive collections and great exhibitions. We did miss the World War collections that were under renovation, but the rest of the museum still occupied much of our day and we enjoyed it highly. Would love more signage in languages besides French for visitors

Holy and strong, please take a look at what he clock at each building, there are special , classic and historical. You will need to buy the ticket if you would like to tour upstairs. Or you can also take a walk here and there are many rabbits in the grass don't forget to appreciate them.

Don't get me wrong, the army museum was great. Full of historic information, uniforms and guns. The only (major) disappointment is that the WWI and WWII part of museum was closed but the officer in the ticket desk did not inform us about this. This was my main interest so I got really disappointed but overall the museum had a lot of interesting this to check from Napoleon to Medieval ages.
