Napoleon's tomb is probably not on your "places to visit in Paris" list. But it should be. Its a perfect homage to one of the best military commanders in history. This tomb is proof that the French loved Napoleon as much as he loved France. The interiors of Les Invalides is as beautiful as the Golden dome that's hard to miss on the Parisian cityscape. The music and lights in the evenings elevate the experience to a different level. Highly recommended.

Napoleon's Tomb was a fascinating experience. The monument is a harmonious blend of history, architecture, and art that leaves a profound impact. The architectural brilliance is evident in every detail, from the intricately carved facades to the meticulously planned layout. It's a living testament to the reverence with which Napoleon Bonaparte's legacy was held. The displayed artifacts in the museum outline French history, the art of war, and achievements. Exhibits, artifacts, and displays provide an intimate look into the past... military campaigns, and significant moments. The museum-like setup is educational and enlightening, catering to both history enthusiasts and casual visitors. The tomb itself, situated beneath the grand dome, the final resting place of Napoleon Beyond the historical aspect, Napoleon's Tomb is a masterpiece of design and aesthetics. The symmetry, attention to detail, and fusion of various architectural styles are a sight to behold. It's a place where art and history converge in a harmonious embrace. Visiting Napoleon's Tomb was not just a touristic experience; it was a journey into the past. The combination of historical significance, architectural grandeur, and educational value makes it an unmissable destination. Whether you're a history aficionado, an architecture admirer, or simply a curious traveler, this site offers something that resonates on multiple levels.

This is a suitably grand resting place for one of the more complicated and impactful leaders in world history. The red quartzite coffin, friezes of the emperor and his greatest accomplishments and deliberate omission of his poor qualities (typical) surely illustrate him as one of the greatest leaders of nations in the history of humankind.

What a shame for all travelers who go to Paris without visiting the Tomb of Napoleon Bonarparte🤩. The place is beautiful, magnificent and amazing. It carries the glory, honour, history, authority of France. I think it is a place where should be put at the highest attractions rank as Eiffel tower and Louvre Museum in Paris for sure!

A must visit place, its - as expected from Paris - wonderfully constructed. Don't get too excited tho, this sight is not as monumental as probably the rest of the historically important places, you can see the entire thing in about 15-30 minutes (+tickets)

A must see place away from the usual crowds. The architecture is impressive in every way. We used the Paris Museum Pass for free access and for under 18 it is required to get the ticket from the ticket office nearby. There are toilets in the building with the ticket office but to use it you need to show tickets. There were no crowds just a gentle flow of visitors impressed at the final resting place of one of history's greatest warriors, an emperor. The tomb is in an open crypt looked upon by angels and surrounded by memorials to other great souls. It is a very quiet experience compared to other crowded places in Paris.

The queue for the tickets were insanely long. I’d advise you to book online your tickets. The tomb as you can see from the photos is huge and the building itself is beautiful. The museum wasn’t something special. There were mostly old outfits and old weapons.

This was an unexpected high point as we wandered Paris. Not because we're fans of the late emporer, but just because the hubris is so complete and beyond belief. As far as tombs go, I haven't seen anything this nuts since the pyramids of Giza, which is interesting given the number of lives Napoleon's conquests cost Europe. You should see this.

I recently visited the Tomb of Napoleon, and here's my review: 1. This site holds immense historical significance. You have the opportunity to view the tomb from above, offering a unique perspective. Additionally, you can descend to the lower level for a closer look at this monumental mausoleum. 2. Given that it is a mausoleum, it's important to approach the site with a sense of respect and reverence. This is a place of remembrance for a prominent figure in history, and visitors should be mindful of its solemnity. Overall, the Tomb of Napoleon offers a profound and educational experience for those interested in history. The option to view it from different angles allows for a comprehensive understanding of its significance. Remembering to be respectful while exploring this site is paramount.

A great tribute to one of the greatest military leaders of history. Definitely worth the stop. The connection Napoleon has to so many events in history and places makes it that much more exciting to visit. Next time you are in Venice learn about Napoleon's connection to the Horses of Saint Mark - one of the most interesting stories IMHO!

I'm not a big lover of history, but seeing from afar this cathedral with a golden roof I had to go and see what it was, and I must admit, I didn't regret it at all, it was truly a delightful experience for my eyes, and what's better is that the entrance ticket is free if you are under 26 years old, if you are near the Eiffel Tower add it as a stop on your trip, I assure you that it will be absolutely worth it🤗✨️

A visit to the The Dome (Tomb of Napoleon #Bonaparte) in Les Invalides is worthwhile based on the stupendous history of Napoleon and the magnificent building itself. The Dome was Paris's tallest building until the Eiffel Tower was erected. The history of the Dôme des #Invalides is linked to that of France: it was the church where royal mass took place during the reign of Louis XIV, then it housed the Tomb of #Napoleon I in the 19th century, and provided shelter for Allied pilots in the Second World War.

Although part of the Army Museum, a series of museums dedicated to military history, from the Middle Ages until modern times, the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte is the most visible and well known building of them all. While you can spend several hours in here, visiting the entire complex, you may also skip the military museums and just visit the tomb. The ticket for the entire museum is EUR 15. Impressive building, full of history, and one of the city’s landmarks, Napoleon’s tomb is worth a visit. You will find several rooms dedicated to Napoleon in the army museum. Recommended!

Worth visiting just for the tomb of Napoleon. Just a phenomenal piece of architecture, I can’t believe how much effort and money has been put into this structure. You’d think Napoleon was the king of the world with a resting place like this

For me the highlight of my trip to Paris was the pilgrimage to Napoleon's tomb. I studied Napoleon in my final year at school and I would have stood shoulder to shoulder with him on the barricades if I was French. He shook Up the royalty of Europe and freed the serfs of their indenture as well as many others. He was dispised because he was a man before his time.

Unexpected to love this place and museum so much. Far less crowded than other museums and my kids loved the suits of armor and history. Wish we'd planned for more time.

Perfection! The outer architecture as well as the inner architecture is fabulous. The entry fees is 15 euros. Along with the tomb there is also a nice garden on the front and the tomb is covered by water on all the sides. If you can for sure visit the place, after all this is the TOMB of NAPOLEON!

Located under the majestic golden Dôme Des Invalides it is a unique place to see. You can feal the social power and dominance, and why he was one of the biggest individuals who ever lived. Fun fact: massive sarcophagus in the middle of the structure was actually positioned so you need to bend to see him or look at him from the bottom. Offering him your respect even after his death.

One of the most beautiful and solemn mausoleums you could visit. Invalides is truly a tribute from a grateful nation to the architect of modern France. Napoleon was a visionary leader for the French who introduced modern concepts such as a centralised government administration, french common law, the french university and high school system, various government institutions that aimed at introducing more fairness in decision making. An interesting legacy. The mausoleum includes various life size marble statues that describe this legacy in detail. I really recommend visiting. You have to see it to take it all in. Invalides is also the french national museum of the army with lots of other interesting exhibitions to visit.

It's more than that. It's a big part of french history.

  • 5/5 Anthony P. 5 months ago on Google
Located inside a sprawling multi faceted complex that acts as memorial, museum, and even hospital and living space for French veterans, the tomb is a enormous golden domed building that speaks to the grandeur of this age of French history. The tomb itself is under the main dome, recessed into the floor and can be viewed at the crypt level or from above. The building houses monuments and the remains of many war dead and there are amazing displays in each of the areas, but the solemnity and majesty of his memorial is breathtaking.

Note to tourists: It’s MUCH easier to get there from the “back” than it is to cross Pont Alexander and walk through the plaza of the Museum. It took me almost 30 minutes going that way! The tomb is viewable from the door - albeit from afar - if you don’t want to pay the €8 to enter, but I recommend going in to see the magnificent interior of the building.

Really impressive place with huge dimensions and a lot a lot of marble. Security check at the entrance. Tickets are €16 per person and combined with the huge military museum.

Seeing this, especially if you are up on your Napoleonic history, you see a celebration of a national hero. Magnificent repose amidst his angels, and the accomplishments of his reign.

This museum was a great site to visit. The location was packed with historical items and taught a lot about the history of France and their military. There was limited information in English (understandable) but I had no problem translating to the information with my phone's to read. I highly recommend visiting this museum and the tomb. The price was also extremely reasonable.

Napoleon's legacy is pretty easy to see all around France. His tomb certainly represents that legacy and appreciation by the nation. It is grandiose, even spectacular, worth a visit if you have some spare time.

Who knew so much money can be wasted on a person’s tomb, perhaps except the pharaohs. You kind of have to see it to believe it. I didn’t know of the scale of this structure and the details in the design until I am there. It is more impressive than the army museum next door and it is good to check out Louis XI church. I think it should be a top location to visit.

This was a surprise stop for us, and we’re glad we did it. Not only is it cooler inside, it’s a pretty fascinating tomb for a former emperor (even if it was a self-appointed title). You’ll find all the classical architectural touches in addition to the crowds of tourists, and cadets-in-training (see picture).

Beatiful tomb of one of the greatest military commanders of all time. The paralells to the roman emperors are obvious and its an incredible church. Its one of the coolest mausoleums I have visited. Definetly worth visiting when in the area, its a highlight for every trip!
