An
excellent
place
to
educate
oneself
about
the
causes
of
the
First
World
War
and
how
it
was
fought.
Before
my
visit
I
read
that
the
museum
was
built
around
one
man’s
collection
of
over
40,000
artifacts
from
the
Great
War,
so
I
didn’t
expect
the
museum
to
be
so
extensive.
I
figured
it
would
mostly
be
battlefield
scrap
that
he
probably
found
with
a
metal
detector,
but
I
was
happily
wrong!
There
are
dozens
of
very
well
preserved
unique
historical
items
here
from
before
and
after
the
war,
such
as
the
pens
and
inkwells
used
during
the
signing
of
the
Treaty
of
Paris
that
officially
ended
the
war,
as
well
as
thousands
of
items
from
during
the
war.
Numerous
weapons,
uniforms,
personal
items,
an
ambulance,
a
taxi,
a
couple
of
airplanes,
and
much
more.
Most
of
the
item
descriptions,
though
not
all,
are
in
English
and
German,
and
all
items
have
descriptions
in
French,
of
course.
As
an
added
bonus,
the
Friends
of
France
monument
that
was
erected
in
1932
as
a
gift
from
the
people
of
the
United
States
to
the
people
of
the
Republic
of
France
and
paid
for
by
the
American
government,
is
only
a
few
meters
from
the
museum
building.
