This is a well organised museum of war I've visited in France that has one of the biggest collections of WWI. It's walkable from the city or bus lines 8 & 11 service this area, close to the hospital and the cemetery of Meaux. It costs €10 to enter and really worth it. At the entrance hall there's a museum café and the ticket office on level one. There's a luggage storage facility (€1 to use) public lavatory, wheelchairs and walking frame available. It's really worth taking the time to explore this huge collection of nearly 65 thousand items. You can take a break for refreshments and re-enter the museum with the same ticket. When I visited there were at least three different groups of school children visiting the museum and they seemed to be enjoying it so it's suitable for all ages. It's a bit out of the city centre but really worth visiting. Nearest bus stop about a couple of minutes walk to the museum and there's a public parking opposite the main entrance. Highly recommended for its detailed collection and very friendly and approachable staffs. A real gem of Meaux.

What a good surprise, I visited this museum even if I'm not really keen on this period of history. I was agreably surprised by how this place tackle the topic, the museum is well organized and we can dive in the subject from different angles, the diversity of media makes the museum interesting for a wide range of ages. You can come with your family! The entrance ticket gives you access to the museum for the day so feel free to go out and picnic around and come back after

An excellent place to educate oneself about the causes of the First World War and how it was fought. Before my visit I read that the museum was built around one man’s collection of over 40,000 artifacts from the Great War, so I didn’t expect the museum to be so extensive. I figured it would mostly be battlefield scrap that he probably found with a metal detector, but I was happily wrong! There are dozens of very well preserved unique historical items here from before and after the war, such as the pens and inkwells used during the signing of the Treaty of Paris that officially ended the war, as well as thousands of items from during the war. Numerous weapons, uniforms, personal items, an ambulance, a taxi, a couple of airplanes, and much more. Most of the item descriptions, though not all, are in English and German, and all items have descriptions in French, of course. As an added bonus, the Friends of France monument that was erected in 1932 as a gift from the people of the United States to the people of the Republic of France and paid for by the American government, is only a few meters from the museum building.

Absolutely amazing experience. The museum has a wonderful collection. We took my 13 year old nephew and 6 year old son, both found it very interesting, and i must admit that even though i wasn't keen on going it even had me interested 😊 Tickets were a bargain too!

Exceptional first world war (and its lead up) museum. Great for kids. There are plenty of interactive exhibits. Small cafe there and tons of outdoor space. Excellently laid out, and the temporary exhibits at the end never disappoint. The current exhibit has a dedication to the nurses of the great war. Plenty of toilets and wheelchair accessible.

Very interesting Great War museum, rich on real exhibits, very realistic representation of soldier's life in the trenches and human suffering. I also recommend for families with children. Fully satisfied. Small recommendation is to improve - better indication of the direction of the museum tour.

We loved this little museum. It was great and gave you a realistic view of what life was like on the front. If in the area, it's a must see.

Solely on WW I. Well organized, lots of video, and extensive English placards. The tour starts with a slide show that takes you back to 1870’s and the tensions leading up to the war. Curation is excellent.

Well worth a visit... learnt so much about the buildup to war and the war itself, which was surprising.. Lest we forget... is often said, but visiting the museum brings home how terrible this war (and all wars) was.

Das größte Museum Frankreichs zum Thema Erster Weltkrieg. Für Leute die sich für dieses Thema interessieren ist ein Besuch unbedingt Pflicht. Es wird hier einfach alles behandelt und abgedeckt

What a superb war museum. So much to see and do there. Ensure you take a few hours to look around the exhibitions as there is so much to see and learn about.

Excellence all around! Comprehensive coverage of the Great War especially from the aspect of everyday people. I had not seen an exhibition about WW I that puts it in perspective of the events surrounding the 1870 Franco-Prussian War and its aftermath. Truly worth a day (or two) side trip from Paris.

One of the best museums I have been to. Massive collection of uniforms. Really interesting exhibit areas. Well laid out displays. Loved the marching soldiers in uniform displays, depicting each end of the Great War. If you are within travelling distance and have an interest in this period of history I would recommend a visit

It had very interactive expositions, but I think it would be a more pleasant experience if they also had English translation for each piece.

Super interesting, lots of interactive panels, the most important texts of history are in French, English and German, however, the item descriptions are in French only. There are audio guides available in both French and English. As per normal, visited on the first Sunday of the month so the ticket was free.

A tremendous facility telling the events of the Great War in a series of halls. Suitable for younger children if you follow the suggested route through the main hall. Not many people attending when we went one morning in early July. Limited catering on site, but you can go into the town and return later if you want.

Great museum and very informative. It is presented well. You can be in there an hour, you could be in there for half a day. Plenty to read and look at.

An amazing amount of information and displays from WWI I have been in other museums but learned so much more at this one. The museum is very well set up, has planes and vehicles besides the usual uniforms guns and wartime posters.

Great museum. Very modern - and great for both children and adults.
