How there are not more visitors at this chateau is completely beyond me, it is unquestionably superior to so many of the larger chateaus that receive more visitors. It is such a marvel of architecture and the way it compliments the gardens is perfection. The inside of the house is full of history with a good tour. A walk to the Hercules statue is an absolute must and not too far. The view from the statue down over the chateau is incredible and really gives perspective. The little kiosk outside does lovely crepes as well!

Many people think this is the most beautiful chateau in France. There ia a parking just in the front gardens close at 7 pm but the last access to the chateau is at 4:45. We arrived at 4:30 and it was just for us nobody was there the parking was empty and only a small group of people in the castle. Highly recommended.

There is a lot of decor elements in very good condition. The interior light also creats a magic atmosphere of XVIII century. The audio guide is a good accompaniment to the visit and it's not boring at all. However the most impressive part is a kitchen of the chateau. There is also restaurant and bar zone on the chateau area. Highly recommended to plan your visit for candles night pick nick during summer time.

This castle is not a popular tourist destination, but definitely a hidden gem among locals. We highly recommend coming here for a visit and hope we can get a chance in the future to see the fireworks.

This was one of the best things we did on this trip to Paris. Spectacular gardens and chateau and the audio tour was one of the best we have experienced. I wouldn’t pass up seeing Versailles but this is a very close second and without the crowds it was an easier and more pleasant experience. We give it 4.5 clams on the coveted Five Quahog rating scale.

Very underrated chateau! If you ever visit fountainbleau do make it a point to keep an hour and half for this beauty. Being away from the town the view from its dome is mesmerising.

This castle by the garden is amazing. It is such a beautiful garden and it has an interesting history as well. The rooms and decor are well maintained. If you want to visit the dome you will need to pay extra, but it is worth it ! The view on the top of the dome is incredible, and you can see the whole garden. On Christmas, they put up very nice decorations, and there are plenty of people. It is a good place for enjoying Christmas activities. You can use an electric golf cart for riding around the garden, although you will need a your drivers license to rent it. They will give you a map for driving around. It is a good experience.

A visit well spent! It's amazing to the castle that inspired Versailles and I loved all the Christmas decorations with the animatronics. I'd love to come back when there's warmer weather and to see the Christmas lights at night. Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful castle! There is an audio guide tour that tells you the story of the man who built the Chateau which is really interesting and changes automatically when you walk into a new room. Would definitely recommend coming here for a day trip from Paris.

Large castle with beautiful gardens (les jardins sont très beaux). Walking through gave me the opportunity to really experience the scenic landscapes but it was a pretty long walk. There are electric vehicles you can get to move around. Inside the castle, you go through from room to room. You're given a location-calibrated set of headphones with dramatised storytelling. When you enter a space, the audio guide begins to tell you about the room or space and really fives context. I found this to be very cool and immersive! Overall, it's worth visiting. A lot of picturesque places too and there's a place to get drinks and snacks. BTW, taking a bottle of water would be a good idea to keep you hydrated, especially if you want to walk all the way through the large gardens to the statue of Hercules.

The castle is gorgeous. I definitely recommend visiting it on a beautiful day as opposed to a rainy one. Seems like there will be more to do especially in the garden. Be mindful it is Hardly accessible for wheelchairs and you will have to leave strollers at the entrance.

One of the most beautiful castles I visited so far. The audio guide is a must to really enjoy the experience. It is not crowded, so the visit is very comfortable and you can really enjoy it. I suggest to rent a golf car and take a tour of the garden

Beautiful house with a fascinating but sad history. A lot of passion went into planning this house and gardens. We spent an extra 5 euros to go up to the dome where we could look out. I recommend this if you are agile. The spiral staircase to the top is narrow. My mom is 85 and she did it, though. Spectacular views at the top.

Beautiful castle, well maintained. Rooms still contain historic furniture, clothes and other items. Access to the dome costs extra, but the view from atop is worth it! For those interested in the history of the castle, their owners and the life itself, you will find plenty of information panels. It will require quire some time to go through all the available information! Overall a very nice chateau, worth a visit.

Château doesn't enforce COVID-19 guidelines. Several people were on the tour not wearing masks! Museum staff doesn't enforce it nor wear masks properly. Also the audio guide's room detection is flaky. Headphone cables also may have bad/flaky cables.

Beautiful castle though quite pricey. Well cared for and a well done audio guide in the price included. Impressive and important in history. A nice visit. Our daughter of 6 even enjoyed it. The food in the self service restaurant at the beginning is a recommendation! There is much to see and discover. If your kids want to dress up, they need to be at the dress room between 12 and 14.

Visited early December. ..a bit cold and rainy...so dress properly, but then you will have the chateau to yourself. Rent the golfcart to explore the grounds. So fun. Seeing every room decorated for Christmas was especially nice. Being there in the evening with lower light made it feel even more authentic . This visit was my favorite part of a 14 day trip. Read about the property. Built by Nicholas Foucquet, finance minister to Louis XIV, it was the inspiration for Versailles. Made the king jealous. Imagine the expense building the estate. But the harmony and balance between the grounds and building are perfect and if you have limited time, or can't visit Versailles because of French strikes, this is the one to see. I loved the chateau.

Wonderfull Castle, not as crowded as Versailles, le grand jour du siecle is a must go!! Don't get the fuss about ticketprices, and the accessibility for strollers. You should think twice what the extra value is for small children visiting a historic building. Part of that they give the possibility for children to dress up, what do you want more?

Simply the most magical and magnificent historic moment in all of France... possibly all of Europe. Better than Versailles. Go go go see it. You won't be disappointed. It was an honor just to go. Plan to spend an entire day. Clean bathroom and great food as well. Cart rentals to see the grounds are available and worth the small fee.

Better than Versailles in my opinion. Gorgeous, very well cared for, the staff are pleasant, and the audio tour is a theatricality done history which is quite well executed. Also, way less crowded than Versailles and other places. A reasonably priced cafe and you could actually have a picnic. Highly recommend! I've spent a lot of time in France and it gets my top recommendation.

Superb in every way. Well organised, a well designed, self-guided tour of the chateau and gardens. Fascinating details of the genesis of the gardens and the collaboration of three fine artists in their fields of design and art to realise this monumental masterpiece. Cafes serving excellent food and an Aladdin's cave of goods for sale in the gift shop.

10 STARS!!! On Saturday nights during the summer months they light up the grounds with 2000 candles and a fireworks display at 11pm. I paid 22 euros a ticket which allows you entrance onto the grounds, entrance into the chateau, plus a free audio tour. The grounds take over an hour to walk. BUT you can rent a golf cart!! We didnt get there in time (7:30pm last rental if available) for that otherwise we would have. We packed a picnic with beach towels and arrived at 9pm by car. There are hardly any places to sit so dont forget that. We took the audio tour which was excellant. It was told in story form narrated by the Viaconte. The chateau rooms were as impressive as Fountainebleau. The fireworks at 11pm were way better then expected. Because they were lit so close by it felt like stars were falling down on you. Amazing night. Check weather n bring a jacket it got cold quickly even though it was a hot 77' day. Watch my video of the fireworks it was a magical night worth the hour drive out there.

No words. A pleasure to go and visit and discover. Unique experiences as well during summertime (e.g candle nights, gold&silver fireworks, champagne&baroque music, etc.) Such an outstanding chateau, also called "the little Versailles". Clearly one of the best monuments I have ever visited ❤️

Beautiful private owned Chateau . We arrived about 7pm for a candle lit fireworks display. We were on our way back from Fontainebleau so we were a bit worn out to be honest . Worth a visit but long wait till 11pm for fireworks display.

This is a fantastic experience as you are immersed in the lives and history of the chatteau through the audio. The gardens are smaller than Versailles, but the chatteau experience is fast better than Versailles. Another bonus is there are far fewer people here so you can enjoy each part. Another bonus is that you can wear a costume around and take pics of yourself, and this is not paddocks in Versailles.

This review is written at the moment if the COVID-19 virus. The health measures that the chateau takes for COVID are almost non existant. You book your time to go into the chateau, which at first look seems perfect. However, the chateau doesn't control anything afterwards, and you find yourself in crowded rooms with dozens of other tourists who clearly aren't really aware of the space between you and them. Luckily everyone has a mask, however, the chateau could make much more of an effort to space out the tourists at larger intervals to avoid crowding - but they don't.

  • 5/5 Matt C. 3 years ago on Google
While the chateaux is not as great as the gardens, it blends with them perfectly to create one of the best visits in France. I particularly like how you're allowed to picnic in the gardens.

Great bit of history. The chateau is more raw than Versailles, which makes it quite interesting l. Being a good drive out of Paris, there are fewer people. Be sure to stay for the light/projection show at dark. We had a great day out.

Main course, 2 slices of roti with some vegetables, correct. Dessert, a kind of fruit pie, very bland. No coffee. So very expensive for this type of meal. We also thought of having a romantic candle light dinner. There were indeed the candles but it looked like a wedding, big table. And distension not really respected. Not to mention the wasps. My neighbor at the table killed 10 during the meal. Positive point, the view of the castle. Then we waited 3 hours to see the fireworks display which started at 11:00 p.m. and ended at 11:05 p.m. So 3 hours of waiting for 5 min. No entertainment at the castle to make us wait, not even a small orchestra. In short, an interesting concept but ultimately not great.

One of the best chateaus in France. The inside is a museum itself. The video show at the end of the interior visit is dazzling. The gardens are amazing too. Definitely worth seeing.

Strongly recommend to visit in the evening to see the candle-lighted castle and the fireworks. Candle-lighted castle and garden will make you feel happy. Don’t miss the fireworks at 11:00 PM

We went at about 7 pm. We had a nice dinner at the self service restaurant. Then visited the chateau and the garden with candlelight and fireworks. We had a good time.
