This magnificent mosque sits at the very heart of the capital city and the country's Islamic faith. Built in 1958 and named after the 28th Sultan Of Brunei, it is one of the most impressive mosques in South-East Asia. Set amid its own lagoon, the mosque seems to be floating, surrounded by lush greenery and floral gardens, while its glittering dome, covered in real gold, soars above the skyline. Featuring luminous stained glass windows, floors of gleaming Italian marble, walls of Shanghai granite, chandeliers from Britain and Carpets from Saudi Arabia, the mosque brings together the world's best materials in a tour de force of architectural beauty and spiritual ambience. A marble bridge across the lagoon brings you to a replica of a 16th century Royal Barge, which used to host religious ceremonies, like Quran reading competitions. At night, the mosque is illuminated, making it a vision to be seen. Opening Hours : Sun-Wed, 8am until 5:30pm, EXCEPT at Prayer times Closed : Thurs-Fri Shoes are to be removed before entering. Dress appropriately For Men : No shorts, No Sleeveless (wear long pants) For Women : No singlets, No shorts, must cover leg (wear long pants) This mosque is simply gigantic! Like in 1001 night!!! Beautiful park, beautiful details, beautiful objects! The highlight is really a walk here in the night!

So lovely to stop in this magnificent divine space and experience the calm and spirituality. The mosque itself is so beautiful, a good place to sit calmly and reflect. So quaint and peaceful. Just make sure you are respectful because it’s a place of worship

(Translated by Google) Omar Ali Saifuddyn Mosque It is a standard spot for sightseeing in Brunei. In the capital Bandar Seri Begawan Close to a large shopping mall, the white walls and gold dome have a strong presence. Even tourists can easily enter, but since it is a mosque, women should refrain from exposing it. The white walls on the outside are also beautiful, but the interior is even more luxurious and beautiful. Admission is free. There is a Friday worship on Friday, so admission times may vary. If you find it helpful, I would be grateful if you could like it. Thank you for your follow-up. I visited this mosque during my trip in Brunei and let me just tell you it is definitely an incredible place to visit. They have an area inside of the mosque for non-Muslims and you can hang out there for as long as you'd like. You can also borrow clothing in the front to cover up your arm shoulders and hair if you are a woman or if you're a man covered in tattoos like myself. Inside the mask is extremely beautiful but I also recommend visiting the outside where there is a boat and a Laguna but you be careful because there are crocodiles in this water as we happen to see one ourselves so please don't stick your hand inside of the water unless you really don't care about your hand. All in all this is definitely a place that you must visit went in the city of Bandar Seri Begawan.

Very beautiful to see! Can't go far inside but if you go during visiting hours you can see a bit. There are guides there also to answer your questions. Just take your shoes off first and then you'll have to wear a black robe that they give you. Overall, definitely worth seeing if you're in Brunei.

This was a place that I had to see but due to the fact it was raining I decided to take a picture and run. Later I realised this was such a beautiful place. This country is so beautiful and the history behind the mosque was eye opening. Next time I get the opportunity to travel back here I will actually try and make it to the mosque and I would advice that if you do travel over there, please make the time to visit the mosque. BEAUTIFUL.

A very beautiful, interesting mosque and a must visit in Brunei. The location is very strategic and easy to find. The architecture of the toilet always amazes me and the design seems like never expired. Imagine, the toilet is also good, so do the main building. It really tells the greatness of the kingdom and ruler, and of course it is the mercy of the only God.

Considered one of the most beautiful mosques in Asia Pacific. It’s an icon of Brunei and well worth visiting. You can enter to view the interior at certain hours of the day (check beforehand). You’ll be given robes to wear at the entrance. Otherwise, you can also walk around the grounds, which were open till 10pm when I went on a Friday. Such a beautiful and tranquil place nestled in the city.

There’s a reason why it’s listed as one of the (few) ‘top things to see’ in the country. It’s really beautiful inside. Non-Muslims can only visit at certain times so check before you go. Non-Muslims can walk around the outside in its entirety but can only step inside a small, roped-off corner near the door of the mosque. This is a shame (and makes it a 4* and not a 5*) as it really limits your experience. It was empty and no prayers in progress. It isn’t like this in many other Muslim countries incl. UAE, Palestine and Egypt. From what I could see it was beautiful inside. Shoes of course must be removed and there are thobes to don if you arrive inappropriately dressed (they’re free to borrow). These are given out by (best described as) informal staff members who’ll also spend a minute giving you a few facts and taking your photo with your phone if you wish. Then they ask if you want them to take you to the floating village on their boat. They aren’t too pushy though. Don’t forget also to walk across to the beautifully kept park (Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas) with many plants, trees and flowers and lovely views of the mosque in its entirety – you’ll also find ‘the frame’ which is a famous photo op to shoot the mosque through.

Another beautiful mosque with a great view outside. The mosque also has a unique architecture too. There were not many people inside when I went there probably the time was non peak hours. They do provide rob as well for the tourists before entering the mosque. It is very well maintained.

The place is really fascinating! So clean and calm. I love the view! The only thing if you're a tourist like me, it is easier to book a car ahead of time because a one way cab from the airport to the city costs 25 Brunei dollar. There are buses but it is per schedule. The good thing is, most of the places to visit are just nearby.

is an Islamic mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei. It is often considered as one of the most beautiful mosques in the Asia Pacific. It is a place of worship for the Muslim community, a major historical site, and a famous tourist attraction of Brunei. It is named after Omar Ali Saifuddien III, the 28th Sultan of Brunei, who initiated its construction. The mosque serves as a symbol of the Islamic faith in Brunei. The building was completed in 1958 and is an example of modern Islamic architecture. The mosque unites Mughal architecture and Malay styles. Although attributed to Cav. Rodolfo Nolli, a Singapore based sculptor and decorative stonework contractor, it appears that it was first envisaged by His Majesty in 1952, with its design was developed by Kuala Lumpur based architectural firm Booty and Edwards, with Nolli acting as a contractor for its exterior and interior decorative stonework. Built in an artificial lagoon on the banks of the Brunei River at Kampong Ayer—the "village in the water"—the mosque has marble minarets and golden domes, a courtyard and is surrounded by a large number of trees and floral gardens. A bridge reaches across the lagoon to Kampong Ayer in the middle of the river. Another marble bridge leads to a structure in the lagoon meant as a replica of a 16th-century Sultan Bolkiah Mahligai Barge. The barge itself was completed in 1967 to commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of Nuzul Al-Quran (coming down of the Quran) and was used to stage the Quran reading competitions. The mosque's most recognizable feature, the main dome, is covered in pure gold. The mosque stands 52 m (171 ft) high. The main minaret is its tallest feature. In a unique way, it mixes Renaissance and Italian architectural styles. The minaret has an elevator to the top, where a visitor can enjoy a panoramic view of the city. The interior of the mosque is for prayer only, with features such as stained glass windows, arches, semi-domes and marble columns. Nearly all the material used for the building were imported from abroad: the marble from Italy, the granite from Shanghai, the crystal chandeliers from England, and the carpets from Saudi Arabia.

We loved visiting this mosque. Firstly, it is beautiful from every angle and the pure gold dome is noticeable from very far away! We went inside to view the beauty inside and the people sat at the door were so friendly and helpful. As a visitor you are asked to put on a black robe to cover yourself and there is a visitors entrance which clearly leads you into the permitted areas of the mosque. We were told we could take photos inside however as a visitor I would not presume this as there are signs saying not to take photos. We took the lead from those who welcomed us at the door.

Serene 20th century mosque built by the father of the current sultan of Brunei. Has beautiful blue stain Glas windows inside. Massive interiors with a grand ambience. Has a large artificial lake with a boat in the center upfront that I'd the signature photo for visiting this peaceful and colourful country. There is a dress code in place to enter formal clothes for men are fine and no shorts. People at the mosque will guide you. Recomended visit for those visiting Brunei. Parking avaliable.

A must see in Brunei. An iconic Brunei landmark. Very beautiful religious building. A malay islamic architecture. Tourist not wearing proper attire are given with robes before entering. Non islam tourist are allowed to enter and given a designated area at the corner. Be mindful of the mosque schedule. Only certain hours within the day are tourist allowed to enter. A religious building so please try to be respectful.

Top list when you're visiting Brunei. Beautiful masjid, the landmark of the nation. Note that it's closed for sightseeing every FRIDAY from 12 to 2 PM. Also, generally in Brunei, all shops will be closed during Friday prayers, so plan accordingly. Museums are closed as well on Friday (it's off-days). In front of the masjid, there's a park with BIBD Frame where you can take nice pic. Close to the riverside, Yayasan Shopping Center and Brunei Waterfront where you can hop on a boat to go around or cross to Kampong Ayer. Women are allowed to perform Friday prayers in the masjid, there's a dedicated space for women inside.

Came with high expectations but it's just a normal mosque Security was rude and lacking any hospitality to visitors. Talking loud in the mosque between themselves while visitors came for a moment of silence.

When you see the Brunei poster, you see this golden dome with a lake surrounding the mosque. You can enter the mosque through the non-Muslim section to have a peek inside the grandiose decor of the praying area and talk to the Imam within to learn more about religion and practice. They speak good English too. Dress properly to go in as a respect.

(Translated by Google) It is a mosque with a golden dome that stands out in a white building only as a landmark in Brunei. It was impossible to enter inside because it overlapped with the prayer. There is a large lake behind the mosque (?). I think it's good to walk along the promenade and see the scenery from various angles. The mosque reflected in the lake is a picture. The boat with the throne floats in the center of the lake, and the scenery of the mosque standing behind it is wonderful. There is also a park in the vicinity, and a woman with children came. There are shopping malls nearby, but the shoppers were sparse. Inside the store, luxury brands were beautifully displayed. There is a river near the shopping mall, there is a park with great monuments on the banks of the river, and a lot of houses are built on the opposite side of the water, like a floating village.

It’s such a gorgeous place. It is different from the mosques that I have been to before. It’s simple - mainly using the colours of white and gold - and is super spacious! You can only visit certain time of the day (and some days like Fridays are closed for tourists) but it’s worth going! It’s free and they will give you the gown to cover yourself properly to enter the mosque. The area you can enter is limited.

A beautiful landmark. I was lucky I got to visit and walked up the minaret. This was a rare and special occasion when they let us visit it. Climbing it was so exhilarating as it was a great climb. The view of Kampong Ayer and the city was amazing. The mosque is closed during prayer times for non Muslims. There are robes for visitors to wear. It's also great to take photos outdoor. Best time for me was sunset. I love to sit around the mosque prior to maghrib prayer and join them indoor for prayers. It's so serene and calm.

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is one of the most iconic landmarks in Brunei and a popular tourist attraction. It's located in the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan and was built in 1958 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III's reign. The mosque's stunning architecture combines both traditional Malay and modern Islamic styles, with its gleaming golden dome, marble minarets, and serene lagoon. Visitors are allowed to enter the mosque during non-prayer times and can marvel at the intricate details of the interior, such as the ornate chandeliers and exquisite stained glass windows. Surrounded by lush gardens and a tranquil lagoon, the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque offers a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture.

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is a stunning example of superb Islamic architecture. The beauty of the mosque is enhanced by the serene lake and the large ship, creating a picturesque scene. However, capturing a photo with the mosque, ship, and lake in the background can be challenging due to the fence that obstructs the view. It would be wonderful if the government could establish a designated spot for tourists to take photos and videos. Despite this, the mosque is well-maintained and remains a breathtaking landmark.

I had a very good impression visiting this mosque. (Free entrance) I was planning to rent a long dress and hijab to go to this mosque but unfortunately I couldn’t get one. So I went there with long pants and a shirt. Luckily, there was a volunteer at the entrance of the mosque and he is very helpful. The volunteer guide us to wear the free provided dress (they have for men and women) to cover parts of our body before entering the mosque. For women, if you are comfortable to wear hijab you can choose to wear before get inside or else hijab doesn’t matter. When you get inside the mosque, there will be area for non-muslim believers which cannot cross the red line and you must follow the volunteer’s instructions. I’m impressed that the volunteer gives all information that we need to know about this mosque. Moreover, he also takes us to the exhibition area which is on top of the mosque and it was very nice view. Another impression besides having a free-provided dresses was there is free drinking water and you can drink as much as you want. Recommend not to skip visiting this place 👍🏻

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is a stunning place to visit, offering a peaceful and enriching experience. It's a beautiful mosque, and visitors are welcome during specific times of the day when prayers aren't being held. The mosque is open for visitors on weekdays between 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, and 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. On Fridays, please note it is closed to visitors from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM due to midday prayers. The mosque’s architecture is truly magnificent—its design is often compared to the Taj Mahal in India, with the elegant white marble and grand dome creating a serene and majestic atmosphere. There’s also a video screen inside that provides a great educational overview of the mosque’s history, construction, and significance in Brunei. One of the must-do things is to remove your shoes when entering the mosque, which is standard practice in most mosques. They provide ladies with traditional robes to wear while inside, ensuring that everyone dresses respectfully. It adds to the experience of immersing yourself in the cultural and spiritual heritage of Brunei. The mosque sits on a lovely site with a beautiful pond on one side, adding to its tranquility and enhancing its overall beauty. It's also an excellent spot to catch a breathtaking sunset, as the mosque overlooks the water and offers a panoramic view of the city.

The Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is an absolute gem, and it's captivating both inside and out. What truly makes this visit exceptional is the genuine warmth and hospitality of the local community that gathers here. I've had the pleasure of exploring it during the day and at night, and I must say, it's tough to pick a favorite time. Whether bathed in daylight or gently illuminated by the night sky, the mosque's beauty remains equally mesmerising. It's a must-visit for anyone in the area, offering a harmonious blend of architectural grandeur and the heartfelt friendliness of the local residents.

It is a very nice mosque from external. There is also a nice view from the back of the mosque. Within the mosque, in order not to disturb others who are praying, there is a small corner that is cordoned off to allow visitors to take photos. The aircon in the mosque is very strong.

Visiting the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Brunei was an unforgettable experience. This stunning mosque, with its majestic gold dome and beautiful marble minarets, is a symbol of Islamic art and architecture. Set against the serene backdrop of the Brunei River and surrounded by a tranquil lagoon, the mosque's reflection on the water is a sight to behold. The intricate details of the mosque's interior, including the luxurious carpets and elegant chandeliers, add to its grandeur. However the bridge in the middle of the lagoon is closed that time :( can’t get a better picture. Sadd

This is a must visit mosque in Brunei. Brunei's top tourist attraction built on an artificial lagoon on the bank of the river. On the opposite side of the road is the water village which again is favorite among tourist. Tricycles are available in this area for a ride. Local food stalls and shopping can be done along the road. Overall a must visit to anyone who is visiting Brunei.

Far and away the most iconic landmark of Brunei, this mosque is an obvious must-visit for all visitors coming to Brunei. Research ahead of time when the mosque is open to the public, and you may be able to enter the mosque to see its beautiful interior design. Entrance is free, and they provide visitors with a black robe at the door, so no need to dress in full long-sleeve shirt and pants if you just plan on popping by. The complex surrounding the mosque is equally ornate and beautiful, highlighted by the equally-iconic boat in the middle of the lake partially surrounding the mosque. At night, the mosque and the boat light up in green and it makes quite the sight to take in! For a truly breathtaking experience, the call to prayer here is simply incredible, make sure you are nearby for when the call to prayer begins.

The architecture and design was stunning. It's built next to the river and has a tranquil feel about it. The golden domes shimmer and glow when the sun is out giving it a captivating feel. Be mindful of the worshippers and don't make too much noise but feel free to stay there as long as you like and take lots of pics.

Beautiful mosque.... Pictures 2017 Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque (Malay: Masjid Omar Ali Saifuddien, Jawi: مسجد عمر علي سيف الدين) is an Islamic mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei.
