A quaint and quintessential city with a lot of character and old world charm but with a lot of modern vibe brought in by the global student community! The Cathedral is divine, the cobbles streets and walk around town and university brilliant! Great dining options and bars to hang out in! My favourite was Expresso Martini @Revolution Bar, Bloody Mary@Tango and Thai meal @Thai River

Fantastic day supporting and celebrating working people at Durham Miners' Gala. Fantastic parade which took two hours to pass through the narrow cobbled streets. Wonderful musicianship of the many bands. What a festival!

I was working there but the settings and site staff seem second to none, its as though the campuses are set in the middle of a nature reserve, very quaint little roads and the settings of a stately home.

Went just for a day visit to see the layout of university buildings and visit the town. Our son is thinking of applying for the university for September 2022. It is stunning. Everyone in the shops and tourist information were so friendly and helpful. We had coffee in a lovely coffee shop called Biz- R and had lunch in the Fat Hippo. Our lunch was lovely, 2 hangover III BURGERS ( chicken) A fat Hippo hillbilly and a wild bill burger ( both beef burgers) wanted a pudding but we were all so full up we could not manage it. We went to cathedral which is breathtaking, unfortunately the castle was closed, I think there was a wedding happening. One of the most beautiful, clean cities I have ever visited ! Everything is within walking distance we walked to the Palatine centre as this is where the law school is situated. Looks lovely. Could not go inside as it is the summer holidays.

Visit was to Durham Castle and Durham Cathedral in the grounds all owned by the University. Beautiful Cathedral and climbed the 325 steps up the Tower and that is well worth it for the view at the top. After an enjoyable walk along the River again a lot owned by the University.

Spread out. Lack of parking for guests. I used the Park & ride as recommended, bought a ticket and now have a £50 fine. Lots of walking involved. Poor map provided by the university making the day difficult. They obviously do not like visitors here.

It was my daughters open offer day so thought we'd go along for a bit support. Where to start the day was well organised from start to finish the only downer was the teachers strike but even that was well planned. Facilities were fantastic and my daughter was beaming the organised tours were very informative and the students are a credit to the University my daughter left feeling very positive about her future.

I keep coming back here.. It takes only 10 mins from Newcastle by train.. The trains depart every 10 -20 mins... It takes 10 mins walk from the train station to the university.. There are loads of nice restaurants with nice views

A place that ramps up student debts with interests rates, no job out there will recognise your so called "Certificate" from here, you wanna study then do it in another city than failing Durham!!! Students forced into the city and even traveling is a nightmare around set times in Durham, they are many uni's out there that are way better than this one, go here then be expected to also get work experience else where otherwise they will turn you down for a job you want. These universities in Durham are a plague that crushes the structure of a thriving city, just stay away at all costs, you will be better off.

The dormitory was so noisy that people were still talking loudly after midnight. I asked the order control person for help, but he came to the dormitory and did not do justice, just supported the party with more people, so the group was still noisy until after 2 am every day. I spent so much money to go to school, but I couldn't get a good night's sleep and couldn't get justice. I regret that I chose this school in the first place.

Terrible study experiences in Durham Uni, some of the staffs are really rude. I would like to said if you feel like you are a looser, please back home, never give negative emotions to your students please. Thanks a lot!

This is a Cathedral during the Lumiere last year in November. Quite amazing events with a lot of beautiful artworks from lights.

History right there in front of you. Also for those with younger harry potter fanatics parts of it filmed here make it an easy sell to the kids

Durham has finally decided to start work on some of its decaying properties. Also, they now have choreographed flowers in small but spectacular flower beds. On a sunny day with everyone in a happy mood Durham is delightful. There's a lot going on too, plenty to do and see. History is being resurrected from degeneration, just in time.

Stayed at Durham University for three days for a debating competition. Very relaxing. Marvellous scenery, as the mountainous terrain alongside low rivers and well preserved forestry allows for nice views from high stone bridges over calm flowing rivers. Would recommend if you are considering engineering course at university.

My daughter , enrolled as student on Durham University is allocated to Claypath medical center as patient . We sent these kids to school, so they have to benefit also on medical service on high standard ,and the University should make an audit of the clinics providing services for the students. They don t provide services, just cash the money from the medical insurances. Story : after 2 weeks of fever , muscle pain, weakness, she succeeded to make an appointment last Monday. She was consulted by Dr. Panke, who conducted some small medical tests, promising that he will revert soon with results and medical treatment. Till Wednesday no sign from the clinic, once she was feeling terrible , we decided to bring her to Bucharest and she was immediately hospitalized. Lucky we have doctors here with real sense of Hippocrates's oath , she made immediately all the required tests, get the results , start medication , get a full diagnostic and treatment. Today , Thursday evening we received the first results from Durham ( just urine, not blood yet ) . I don t know if have to laugh about the poor service of the clinic , cry for the lack of empathy of the doctor, or question the university about the students health maintaining procedures . When someone mentioned fever for 2 weeks , this is an emergency in any country , you as doctor can not postpone one week the diagnostic. If unable to sort it out, is your duty to send immediately the patient to someone competent and having the right logistic. Here we criticize all the time the medical system, but the clinics are years in the front, on the medical service. At the end we still wait for the blood tests from Durham , tests that we did it in Bucharest in 2 hours, not to mention she didn't get any guidance, if not a diagnostic. The university management should notice about the lack of medical services for its students, make complain about it, discussing with clinic's management , claiming against them on the authorities. At the end she is safe, but she has to miss the classes , and travel so many hours for medical assistance.

It's a small but very beautiful place steeped in history, lots of olde world charm a full day is needed. Lots of shops, Saturday vintage Market, pubs, bars, restaurants. A river and a beautiful cathedral its smiling to York but far more quaint, I would throughly recommend a visit, maybe take 2 days.

Interesting history re Durham Castle that goes back to the 10th century, with a Chapel that was constructed for the first Prince Bishops. The tour takes in the gallery and great hall and the Tunstall Chapel when renovations are complete. Beautiful Norman arch in the gallery which was saved from erosion as it became an inside door. Guided tours are available. Also Durham cathedral and other ancient buildings are in the same square. Two senior tickets were £9 in June 2023.

Came to visit with my daughter who has been offered a place for September. Fantastic psychology department and we were shown many options for accommodation. Had a great vibe to the place, academic and a range of extra curricular activities. Fantastic city too.
