One of the wonders. There are 26 caves in total, each of its kind and glory. A must visit place. Government has taken efforts to maintain this place. Shuttle service is available which takes u from parking to the base of caves. Ample parking is available. Artificial jewelry shopping and show pieces shopping is very cheap over here.

Ajanta Caves is located about 100 km away from Aurangabad. The road is good and you reach the parking where you have to pay Rs 50/- as parking charge and Rs 15/- per head as amenities charge. From the parking, a bus takes you to the caves where you are charged per head Rs 30/- for A/c and Rs 25/- for regular. The ticket window to the caves charges Rs 40/- per head and camera is free. Here, you are checked and then can proceed to the caves. There is a cafeteria and also clean restrooms. There are steps and a ramp to the caves and even a chair lift available(charged extra) for those who can not climb. The caves are very well maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India and mostly are temperature controlled. It is advisable to wear easy to remove footwear as nearly in all caves foot wear has to be removed. The paintings are preserved and advisable to have a book explaining which cave has what. Guide railings are there, and attendants are there for each cave. The road back is also easy and worth the visit.

Ajanta cave no.10 which where accidentally found by an English officer John smith while searching for a tiger. There are total 30 caves lined with beautiful sculptures and paintings. This visit for Ajanta caves was really worth. A beautiful Ancient Art can be seen through every cave specially in cave no. 1 ,2 , 16 , 17. 3d paintings where drawn that time is what we can really come to know. Location info - We need to pay 1st Entry fee Rs15 per person and also the parking charges. (Bike - Rs20) Once entering at parking place we need to walk for shuttle buses provided by MTDC. Non-Ac bus charges Rs.75 per person. It will take 10min hardly to reach at caves entrance. After that we need to pay Rs.40 per person to see the caves. ( why cant they take once all the charges 😝) Now you can walk and take the great experience of ancient caves. (There is way from which wheelchair can also enter to the 1st cave)

Ajanta caves are one of the well preserved gems of ancient India. The oldest among these Buddhist caves are nearly 2000 years old. The caves are epitomes of human will and endurance, as they are all carved out of the hill. The sculptures and the paintings inside the caves are a sight to behold. Refrain from touching the sculptures and using flash to help preserve them. Unsurprisingly, the site of Ajanta caves is a UNESCO world heritage site and is well maintained.

I visited Ellora and Ajanta caves in October 2019. The Ellora Caves are an hour and Ajanta are two hours away from Aurangabad by car. We had arranged car and guides before we left MP with an excellent Tour company. Highly recommend you (google) contact Abbas at India Someday, the company is very well run and Abbas will go out of his way to deliver for you. Prices are very good and wont break the budget! Enjoy, you are in for a fabulous time.

This is by far the most mind-blowing of all the many sights I've visited in India! The sculptures inside, and the painted murals! It's beautiful! It's hard to imagine how breathtaking it would have looked a thousand years ago, untouched by the ages!

Left me awestruck seeing those beautiful paintings and sculptures. As to how all these were done at the first place. Please visit during non summer months as it would take a while to visit all the caves. You can opt for a guide to know the history behind each cave in detail.

Huge cave complex with beautiful carvings and paintings. From Aurangabad and back, you need to secure at least 5 hours and if you don't have your own travel arrangements, make it min 8 hours. It will take at least an hour for the most uninterested person to go around the 30 caves and it may be up to 5-6 hours for people of taste in intricate carvings and paintings and interest in photography. Add another couple of hours if you wish to track down from the lookout point. Once you reach the place and park your vehicle in the huge parking space, you need to get tickets for the entry and wait for the buses to drop you to the entrance. Pro Tip- Flash cameras are not allowed. You may like to carry a small torch to have a look at fine details and less lit areas.

A place to experience the grandeur of the Indian heritage and culture. Mainly dedicated to Buddhism but has the presence of Hinduism and Jainism as well. Peace and quiet, the feeling of serenity in the caves is something we can only experience and not explain in words. Foothill restaurant serves good food. Take at least 2 to 3 hours and be prepared for a walk/climb and opening the shoes repeatedly. The bus ride is scenic. Recommend hiring the guide provided by the government. They do a good job explaining the caves.

The Ajanta caves are situated in the state of Maharashtra. They are in the hills of the deccan. These caves were discovered only in the 19th century. They lie deep in the Sahyadri hills. Since they were in the jungles, the external world did not know about them before that. They are situated near the Waghora river. They were cut into a mountainside. Ajanta caves are rock - cut cave temples and monasteries of Buddhists. The caves were made between the 1st Century B.C. and the 7th century A.D. There are two kinds of caves - caityas (sanctuaries) and viharas (monasteries). The Ajanta caves were made by Buddhist monks. In many caves, the walls are decorated with inscriptions and pictures. They represent stories from the Jatakas, a collection of stories related to the incarnations of Lord Buddha. Among these depictions of Buddhist stories we can also find the images of nymphs and princesses. They are very beautifully as well as artistically presented. The caves are the best expression of human ideas and hard work. In Ajanta we have a string of 29 caves. Studies have proved that they were built as private hideaways of the Buddhist monks. They might have stayed there for various purposes like meditation, yoga or even safety. These caves were made at a period when they had only hammer and chisel as instruments of work. It shows how much determination and hard work they would have put behind it. The walls covered with artistic work speak of rich Indian culture and traditions. The first cave is of great importance. It has some of the most famous as well as beautiful wall paintings. Some of them are Boddhisattvas, Padmapani and Avalokiteshvara. Wall paintings can also be found in caves 2, 16 and 17. However, the other caves are remarkable for their sculptures. Most of the sculptures are of divine nature. Cave 17 contains one of the most outstanding sculptural works. The flying ‘apsara’ in this caves is really a beauty to be cherished. It also has the image of Lord Buddha preaching. They have really stood the test of time and have come to us as real pieces of ancient art. The Ajanta caves can give us a general view of the development and achievement of Buddhism. The caves and sculptures in them are carved in solid rock. Studies have proved that these caves were inhibited for many centuries. These man made caves have become famous all over the world. However, we do not have enough information on what made the monks abandon these safe caves.

It's a very nice and historical place you would definitely love it if are interested in antique monuments, otherwise you would definitely get bored because all the caves look like same from inside but they have different stories related to that caves, you should hire a guide who would guide you. But one should visit this place once in lifetime.

One of the best places to visit …. The caves are awe-inspiring… the view point gives you a spectacular outline of these caves … and when you step in .. it feels heavenly … you are just short of words for this magnificent work … carvings, inscriptions and paintings done 2000 years back … with bare hands and minuscule tools like a chisel and hammer …if you have not seen them .. you need to see them … instills a feeling of pride besides the high octane feelings …

Lovely place to spend a day to go through the caves. Some caves are better preserved than others. Some caves were left incomplete. Stories of Buddhist origin, philosophy and vision are well carved in stones/rocks. A good guide or at least a good guidebook will make the trip more meaningful.

A visit to the Ajanta Caves was an experience of a lifetime! These rock-cut masterpieces are a testament to human artistry and spiritual devotion.. Visiting this UNESCO World Heritage Site was a mesmerizing journey through ancient India's art and spirituality. The cave paintings and sculptures are awe-inspiring, depicting stories, deities, and daily life with remarkable detail.. The surrounding landscapes are equally captivating, with the Waghora River adding to the picturesque setting. A visit to Ajanta Caves is a must for anyone with an interest in history, art, or simply a desire to be moved by the sheer beauty of human expression. Please don't miss the view from 'Upper View Point' .

This is a world heritage site. And it's so beautiful, the cravings on the cave and the spirituality of Buddhism is depicted here. The best time to visit this place is around September, you will get nice view of waterfall. In April May the weather is too hot to enjoy peacefully. Many school children also come with the teachers for historical excursions. I will not share all the photos it is best to visit the rich historical site of our Indian heritage

There are in total around 30 caves of which 26 are open to the public. Cave 26 is the best one followed by 1,2. Ajanta is known for the paintings though most of the paintings are not clear. However the statues are in good condition. Overall a must visit place to learn about our history. Ensure you carry enough water with you as it will be a very long walk.

The caves with paintings are exquisite. Take a guide to know the details. The guide charges are higher than any other place I’ve been to, so if you don’t take a guide listen to the descriptions in YouTube before coming to see the caves

It was an amazing experience to visit the historical caves with family. It was crowded due to year end holidays but the ticketing and bus service to the caves was quick. We spent about 2 hrs to visit all the caves. Some suggestions for improvement - 1. Accept UPI instead of cash for entry and bus tickets . 2. Do not allow hawkers at the parking lot. 3 . Proper sign boards to the bus parking area.

I can say its my memorable trip. Really you will enjoy each cave and feel all the incident when guide will explain about each statue. They depict scenes from the Jataka tales, which have stories of previous lives of the Buddha. Especially interesting are paintings of the Avalokiteshwara Padmapani and the Vajrapani in Cave number 1. This is must visit place, without visiting this place your knowledge about Indian History & Painting incomplete. You need to visit and understand how all three religion Hindu, Buddhism and Jainism evolved. My suggestion is that this is not only must but this should be considered as first to visit place in India.

    (Translated by Google) Awesome ... What could be a different word than this ... I decided to see the caves in 3 to 4 hours because we wanted to get to the other side. If you want to see the Ajanta Caves with all your heart, even a whole week will not suffice. And if any of the review readers plan to come here, please take a little more time to see the Ajanta Caves (Original) अप्रतिम...

By far the best and unique place I would say. A sure Must visit !! One must plan here with exclusive time in hand as its a real masterpiece. It takes almost 3 hours to reach here from Aurangabad and about 1.5 hours from Bhusawal. The road is under construction and should be good in coming times. We kept 2D/1N plan for Ajanta caves. Again a point to remember, Ajanta caves is closed on Mondays and Ellora on Tuesdays. We Started from Aurangabad in morning after the breakfast and went first to the Upper View point from where Ariel view of full Ajanta caves can be seen. This place is wonderful and gives birds eye view of the hills and caves below. Its a MUST DO place. Most of the tourists miss this. It is Not on the way, to reach this point you must take a left from the MSH 8 and continue for 8kM. For Ajanta caves you have to take right and continue for 13kM. So its about 20kM apart on the opposite hill. Now from Upper view point, you have an option to climb down from this point through stepped concreted path if you like doing trekking and ask your driver to reach the Ajanta caves normal entry point 20Km from here and wait for you next 3-4 hours. Mobiles do work here and we did not face any issues of signal. You will anyway have to purchase entry ticket once you reach down below and take visit of caves which may take about 2-3 hours. Normal plan : After visiting Upper view point, proceed with your vehicle to the main entrance 20Km away, park the vehicle in parking slot, walk down to the bus boarding point run by Govt authorities, purchase a bus ticket and reach Ajanta ticket counter and caves. It is about 10min bus ride through jungle. You should carry enough water and caps for the visit here. Your bags are checked and scanned after the ticket counter and you can also deposit your belongings at the counter for things you want to leave at the entry point. Try to go with footwear which you can remove frequently. Almost all caves need you to remove footwear outside. For people who can not walk there are porters who can take you on a palki. Standard rates are displayed at the entrance. It takes you about 2-3 hours to cover all the caves. At the start, you have to climb a bit for first time but later it is not a big effort. This takes you to Cave 1. Or you can take the left path which is flat on other side of Waghora river and takes you to Cave 16 directly. Though all caves are wonderful but We specially liked Caves 1, 2, 16, 17, 19, 26. Coloured paintings on the walls of the caves are marvellous and makes these caves Unique.

This is a collection of caves with awe inspiring Buddhist monuments and temples that were built in 600 AD by Buddhist monks. This is an exciting destination for people who love exploration, sightseeing, photography, culture, art and also an important pilgrim spot. The most important part of this destination is Kailash temple in Ellora caves. This used to be an important tourist destination for British viceroys while India was under their control.

There were bicycle ride, motorcycle ride for kids as well as adults. We had lemon juice there.(Picture attached) to relieve from the sun's heat. There were also some play rides for the kids backed by sunflower plants and others. I rode a double hand bicycle there along with my brother. The charges per rode were just Rs. 50/- which I feel are nominal.

Nice place. Make me feel proud of great history of India. Shows the ancient Buddhist history of India. We can see their hard work. Guess their life style. See their art and skill. Should be preserved well for our future generations. No alterations and modifications should be allowed. Future generations should learn the past as it is.

Wonderful caves around 30, takes you back in time. Ample parking. Parking is 4km away from the actual site. There is a bus service from parking to the caves. Also has a MTDC hotel near the caves where you can stay/dine. Please take an authorized guide who will explain all the paintings and cave history.

Just amazing. Come early. It was quite warm even in late November. For elderly folks, ask for the flat path that crosses the river. They don't tell you about it since they want you to pay them to carry you up. Also after buying food on your way out beware of langur monkeys.

The Ajanta Caves are approximately 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state of India. The caves include paintings and rock-cut sculptures described as among the finest surviving examples of ancient Indian arts, particularly expressive paintings that present emotions through gesture, pose and form.

Reserve atleast 3 to 4 hours to visit the caves and take a stroll in the surrounding nature.

We also get to learn that we should not carve other than the old people and by going there we get a new experience and fun ,in total there are 26 caves but you are expected to see only some but precious as you enter one of the cave you get cooled and stress free from the outer world.

They are universally regarded as masterpieces of Buddhist religious arts... The caves were built in two phases, the first phase starting around the 2nd century BCE, while the second phase was built around 400–650 CE, according to older accounts, or in a brief period of 460–480 CE according to later scholarship. The site is a protected as monument. The Ajanta Caves constitute ancient monasteries and worship-halls of different Buddhist traditions carved into a 75-metre (246 ft) wall of rock. The caves also present paintings depicting the past lives and rebirth of the Buddha, pictorial tales from Aryasura's Jatakamala, and rock-cut sculptures of Buddhist deities.

Prepare to spend around 6 to 7 hours with trip from Aurangabad. Road is super poor quality so it’s better to go by taxi with driver who wait you and take back, which is really inexpensive (around 3000 INR or 50 usd). Very interesting and impressive place, would recommend to visit, around 2 hours for walking. And make sure to take an official guide which is around 2000 INR, his guidance is detailed, took 1 hour, very interesting.

There is so much to see. It is an majestic example and represenation of our culture back in those times and leaves us surprised and amazed. The caves are well managed and preservation is going on. Though I do feel that just filling gaps with plaster is not enough, they need to bring back the old paintings. The paintings will wither in a few years and hence something should be done about it. It is definitely worth a visit. For people who wants to know more about Buddhism, ancient India and intermingling cultures, this is the place for you.

Ajanta cave is open for all days other than monday. Ticket rate for entry is 40₹ and and before that we have to pay 15₹ at the entrance gate. If you are travelling by bus you have take another bus from the entrance and it cost 20₹ for the 4km ride to the caves. There is restaurant available there for your lunch. If you have a good knowledge about the history and paintings of the cave, then you can enjoy the visit with fully satisfied. If you know nothing about that, its better to google it and do some research. And also you can hire a guide from there for the brief explanation. If your going with a gang then it will not be a deal for you if you share the price. Don't forget to bargain for the good price.

Excellent! Marvelous! Incredible! Fabulous! I guess no words in the dictionary could do justice to the architecture. Ajanta Caves are one of the most important archeological site of ancient india. There are 30 rock cut monuments near Aurangabad in Maharastra. These caves are masterpiece of buddhist religious arts. The Caves constitute ancient monasteries and worship-halls of different Buddhist traditions. The caves also present paintings depicting the past lives and rebirths of the Buddha, pictorial tales from Aryasura's Jatakamala, and rock-cut sculptures of Buddhist deities. Also entry fee is way too much. 40rs per person. But even considering all such obstacles, definitely a good place to visit. You should also visit the waterfall, but many people miss it as it lies a bit on a long distance from the caves.

Ajanta caves are a must-go for someone who loves to know about history and culture. The caves consist of single-cut rock architecture paintings and sculptures of Lord Buddha. The whole place emits an aura of its own. However, due to recent construction activity on the road leading to the caves from Aurangabad main city, travelling to and from the caves has become tedious, specially if you are travelling in the ordinary state transport bus. I highly suggest you to book an AC taxi or bus for travelling the ~100km stretch from Aurangabad.

It’s a stunning place depicting incidents from Jataka tales & various phases of Lord Buddha’s life through breathtakingly beautiful paintings and stunning sculptures. The walk between the caves are enjoyable and visually pleasing. To appreciate and decode the paintings and structures, one must hire a guide. Though most of the paintings have been damaged, enough still remain to appreciate the creative genius of our forefathers. One must carry a water bottle & be prepared for about 4 hr walk (to visit the main caves at least).

This is a beautiful place and saying that these are caves is a misnomer, these are monolithic rock cut temples which were discovered by John Smith some 200 years ago, while he was on a hunt. The sculptures and paintings have been made in 5th - 6th AD. Recommended: take a tour guide, it will cost you around 450/ adult person. They will explain you everything is detail which will make your visit memorable and informational.

Everyone should visit this place at least once in their lifetime. It's amazing historical place. It's a wonder how people at that time were able to carve such beautiful things and paint it with so minute details. Life of Buddha is shown very nicely over here in these paintings. Some of the caves are huge and it makes you wonder how they might have removed that much stone with only hammer and chisels. Make sure you hire a guide so that you understand the place properly and get actual details. There is a lot of parking space available. You need to take buses to reach at the caves from your parking space. Proper arrangement of washrooms is there. Be aware of salesman, they try to loot you.

Wonderful historical place. We can't complete all caves in one day if we want to see all caves That might be possible only when we reach early as possible might be at 9am 10 am or 11 am at what time the admission permitted I don't know. You can watch in detail if you want guide then you have to pay too much i.e in ₹3k/4k according to members another economical way is just pay ₹20 to ₹30 to the staff of archeological department In each cave it might cost you lesser and I was wonder that some paintings are still visible which are 1100-1200 years older can anyone guess that what type of paint they might have used and we should be proud that we are in the same land
