We stayed in the ocean block, in the high seas room. The room had a great view, and I can not emphasis on this enough, the view is the absolute selling point. To be honest, you can sit in that room and look at nature and can spend hours. The bed and tub were well kept and spacious for a couple getaway. The thing I didn’t like is the fact, the room is highly overpriced, and so is the whole moss landing place. The service was average with kind of no invitation or warm welcome to such a cozy place. It felt more like a roadside motel entrance, rather than a highly priced boutique hotel.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay! Very interesting atmosphere! However, there is room for a few improvements. Location is ideal if you are going whale watching, or kayaking through the Elkhorn Slough or hike around Moss Landing. Nice places to eat around the area. Monterey is only 17 miles away in a pretty much straight down south road. Be ready to watch all sorts of sea birds, sea otters, sea lions (actually you can hear them barking), from the window of your room. Bathtub is amazing! I definitely recommend Captain's Inn if you are looking to stay in an unique and quiet place, with access to lots of things to do.

Advise you stay here. A unique Hotel. Nice old house covered to rooms. No people, Pick up the red phone by the front door to get the door combination and other information. Antique style everything. Clean and nice. Need to go and stay a few days.

Perfect location if you're going whale watching early the next morning (2 min drive to Moss Landing dock). This place used operate like an old fashioned BnB, with a small dining room with breakfast (but currently closed still from covid) and a nice shared living room. Even though kitchen is closed, you can use the common fridge, and there were some snacks and oatmeal packets available.

We stayed in the Sanctuary room, in the boat house. Loved it. Amazing 2-person shower with 2 full flow shower heads. Very unusual in drought conscious California. Absolutely quiet even with windows open. The only thing we could hear was the ocean waves. Bed was great, though the boat trailer lights did not work. We stayed 2 nights. Housekeeping came in and made up the bed and gave us some new towels. That service is very unusual post-covid. Due to Monterey County clamping down due to a covid surge breakfast was not served, so we cannot comment on it. It would have been nice. We hope to be able to enjoy it on our next stay. Also due to covid restrictions they had a contactless check-in that was flawless. Codes were texted to us. We received a phone call couple of day before letting us know about the text. We have 2 minor complaints. 1. We wish there was a mini fridge in the room as we travel with food and drinks in a cooler. 2. Off-street parking is limited due to the layout of the property. We very much look forward to another excuse to return and stay at The Captain's Inn again in the near future.

This is hands down one of the worst hotels I have ever lived in. Be aware of all the 5-star reviews out there. If you don't trust me, go experience it yourself and come back here to reply to this review. The hotel room felt like over 100 years old. Everything was run down. There was no AC or heater. You could hear every single noise from other rooms or the hallway. The only thing good was the view. I picked up this hotel because it was expensive. With that kind price, I thought it would be great. It turned out to be a huge mistake.

We enjoyed the view and the double shower. The binoculars on the coffee table was a nice touch. We enjoyed tea in the common space in the main house, and visiting with other guests. If I stay longer on a future visit, I plan to make greater use of the deck table and chairs. It is a very pleasant place to hang out in good weather.

A surprisingly really nice place to stay in a charming, small town. We were there in off-season, so we didn't meet the staff, but everything was well prepared for us. We were a bit worried because of some negative reviews about the beds, but at least in our room inside the main building the bed was perfectly fine.

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a night on the way by to sanfranciso. Absolutely loved it. The view was amazing, and so was the room. The theme matches the location. Took a walk down to the beach in the morning, and it was beautiful, lots of great shells. Will definitely be back next time we are in town.

Very cozy and quaint. Lovely room and comfortable bed. It should be known that this is NOT a true bed and breakfast as stated on the Google card with a welcome tray, cocktail hour, and an actual breakfast. There is make your own tea and coffee and that is it, which is fine when you know what to expect. There is no assigned or guaranteed parking and only just enough legal spaces for one car per room. The local village that is within walking distance must all close earlier than posted as there was nothing open we when arrived. It's rather expensive for just a bedroom in the middle of nowhere. Rather disappointed by the lack of hospitality so associated with previous "B&B" reviews that helped make this reservation decision. To continue to blame the pandemic in 2023 is poor form.

Our second visit! Great view from our picture window. (There was even binoculars provided in our room!) The rooms have fun, nautical themes. Comfortable and good value.

This inn is super cute. My husband and I enjoyed the atmosphere very much. The decor and the outside gardens are perfect for the setting. It was super relaxing to sit on the deck and look over the Salinas River. So peaceful and beautiful. We stayed in the Admiral's Wife room, and it was gorgeous! Beautiful antique furniture with a fireplace and a clawfoot tub! Took a wonderful bath in that tub. I wish there was bubble bath available, but the body wash did the trick quite nicely. I didn't realize until after that there was a whole glass jar of bath salts by the sink. Think it should have been labeled or placed with the other bath/shower items. My biggest complaint, and the reason I took away a star, is the bed was awful! The most uncomfortable bed that my husband and I have ever slept in. I use the word "slept" loosely because we didn't get much sleep at all. Luckily, we only booked one night because we wouldn't have been able to stay another night in that bed. If the mattress was replaced with something better, this would be a 5-star Inn. All-In-All definitely enjoyed our stay here. If they upgrade their mattresses, we will definitely book here again in the future! Thank you Captain's Inn!!

Right on the Elkhorn Slough, large windows to watch otters, birds, herons, sea lions, fireplace, big tub for soaking. Close to the whale watching boats and mostly quiet. Fridge in hotel area for people to have food.

Larry at Kayak Connection recommended this place and despite the kitchyness of the photos and themed rooms, I went ahead and booked. The place isn’t inexpensive but the proximity to Kayak Connection was perfect for what we are doing in Moss Landing. I received a call to confirm a few days prior and was told I’d receive a text with check in info including codes which I received the day before we arrived The room was clean if not a bit dated which was fine. There were a lot of rules which was a bit annoying. The Covid mask sign was fill up in the main house which was also annoying and which we ignored. We are in the castaway room. The bed was very high and required a step stool to get on and off so if you have physical limitations this is not the room for you. The view of the slough was nice and there were binoculars in the room which was nice (but we didn’t use). Shower pressure was good. The fireplace turns on with a switch offering a nice effect and some warmth. There’s not much nearby but the Thai place was really good. Checkout was at 10 which is early but I think you can easily extend until 11. Parking was available on the property. We weren’t there long enough to walk around the area or enjoy other parts of the property.

The amazing river view turn into a mod lake. The room was disgusting. I can't imagine why people rate this place a 4.7. I think the owners are rating it with false reviews. I knew something was wrong when they charged me a day before I arrived to the hotel. This place is over price.

This is an amazing place to stay. I stayed in the room called Cast Away and the view was flawless. I thought I would be getting a bathtub but it was just a dual shower. The property is very calm and serene, you don't get to see any staff around and it'll be just guests. It gets very cold and they have heaters (and sometimes a fireplace) in rooms. Wouldn't recommend visiting in peak of summer as they have no AC. After covid they no longer serve a hot breakfast but they haven't changed the prices. The room cost isn't justified without breakfast and should be lowered to make it more attractive. In $400 I could stay at an actual brand name hotel that is located nearby. They accommodated my late checkout with an extra $33 and my experience was pleasant. I might visit again.

My expectation for a 4-star hotel is a clean room. The towels and bedding were clean, but the room floor and the shower floor looked like they had not been cleaned for ages. The shower had a tile floor and the floor tile grout was black with some white spots. I took a towel and rubbed the grout and the black was coming off! I did not use the shower. Fortunately we only stayed for one night. We were in the Sanctuary room. I do not recommend this "hotel" to anyone and will not come back.
