This museum is fantastic but a little overwhelming. There is so much to see. You better dedicate six hours to go through and a good pair of walking shoes. I cannot overstate how clean and well maintained all the exhibits are.

After a harrowing drive through a snow storm my girlfriend and I arrived at the Carnegie. Parking was $7. Check in was easy and we began our journey. So many things to see. Seemed like you could never see everything. My girlfriend loved the dinosaur display. My favorite thing was the door marked Section of Mystery. Look for this door (I posted a picture). Loved our time roaming though the exhibits.

Haven't been here since I was a kid. The place is nicely kept. The exhibits look clean and maintained. There isn't a lot of guidance or explanation for kids (mine are kindergarten age). Even the kids discovery area has no museum staff to guide the youngsters. The only place with guidance was the kids fossil dig area. There were curators available to answer questions about the exhibits, but very geared toward adult comprehension.

Love this place. I've been here twice. Definitely give yourself a few hours. When you pay admission for the museum of natural history, you get into the Carnegie museum of art as well, and vice versa. If you wait until 3:00, tickets are half price if you only have a couple hours to spend.

I have visited so many times and there is still so much joy in visiting. My favorite is probably the gemstones. It's an absolute stunning exhibit. There is a lady that often talks to us in the dinosaur skeleton room that is probably the best employee you could ever ask for. She said she's worked there for over 30 years and is a gem herself. I love taking my time and really reading all of the information. Perfect for the youth and the adults.

We hadn't been down to visit in a few years. We had such an amazing time! Grab a building map on your way in because you'll need it to ensure you don't miss anything. We discovered areas of the museum we never knew about! There was so much to do and see. You could spend days there! And the security guards were all so friendly and helpful. The gift shop was excellent! We left with a bag of good finds. The snack bar "fossil fuel" had delicious and affordable foods, just not enough seating at lunchtime. Parking was expensive at $10 but it is what it is. Overall it was a wonderful day and we're looking forward to getting back to enjoy all that the museum has to offer again!

Definitely worth a visit. The parking was cheap, with no time limit (I think it was $7 but don't exactly remember). The building can be somewhat confusing to walk around, so be sure to grab a map. The tickets are reasonably priced as well. Once you pay for tickets, you receive a paper tag that must be worn visibly while walking around. I suggest you plan for at LEAST 4 hours, or more if you enjoy walking around a museum and experiencing as much there as you can. I wish I had had more time to walk around and learn, but that was my own fault. The dinosaur section has a great variety of dinosaurs on display, including a few real fossils. The mineral section has more in it than we had time to look at, including a radioactive minerals section, presented behind glass with a Geiger counter to show the materials' different radioactivity. There was also a section with sculptures from all over the world, some real-sized, and some shrunk, but both were impressive to look at. When I went, there was also a floor with art from all times in history and present.

Absolutely amazing museum, I could spend hours here but 2-3 is enough to see everything. They have so many exhibits and artifacts, the highlight being the first T. Rex fossil ever discovered. They have other dinosaurs and a beautiful gemstone exhibit too. $25 admission gets you into both this museum and the art museum. Must visit when in Pittsburgh!

Fantastic museum. Has an easy walking route from one exhibit to the next. Dinosaur and mammal exhibits have great skeletal fossil examples. Rock and mineral area has beautiful specimens. I like how several areas focus on Pennsylvania.

Highly recommended!!! So many great things here, spacious to wonder around, lots of info to learn from natural history. They have some physical reconstruction of extinct animals so great!!! Educationally good for both adults and children. Entry after 3pm is cheaper but would miss some events.

We really enjoyed the exhibits in the ice age room and the activities in the courtyard but all of it was really interesting and well presented. Easy to find with good parking and reasonably priced for the quality and and quantity of exhibits. Just a warning that the lower level cafe is closed, we went down there just to find out we couldn’t get anything. The armor exhibit is also worth checking out if it’s still there when you go.

Pretty great place, didn't check out the Art side. This visit only gets knocked a star because of the canceling of live animals (which we paid extra for and were really excited about) and the two areas still under construction. Bonus stars for friendliness, layout, and overall displays.

One of my favorite places to go in Pittsburgh with my little ones. At least once a month we come here for a weekend visit to explore the whole facility. There’s plenty to see and talk about in the three pavement exhibitions spread all over. For wheelchair users, there ramps and elevators to help with access and bathrooms are wheelchair friendly. If you plan in get a snack, there’s a cafeteria in the basement. The only downside is the lack of gluten and dairy free options. If you are driving, there’s a garage access that you pay $10 per car.

The Carnegie Museum is a 10/10. The location is beautiful, the exhibits are stunning, and the staff was friendly. Parking is cheap at $10 with no time limit and a safe parking garage. This museum will keep you busy for 4 or more hours. I am a self-proclaimed gem nerd, so the mineral exhibit was why we originally came. The amount of fossils, precious gems, and unique jewelry was mind-blowing. Make sure to check out the fluorescent and radiation exhibits. In addition to their extensive gem collection, the dinosaur exhibits and Egyptian archaeology exhibit impressed us both. The price of the ticket includes both the Natural History and Art museums. However, we spent over four hours in the Natural History Museum and had no time to check out the art exhibits. Next time we will be sure to check it out!

We LOVED our visit to the museum of natural history and art today!! This trip with friends and our children was beyond special. Every single staff member we encountered did a wonderful job. It's very clean, there is sporadic seating throughout for these tired bones😅.... and there is more than a couple of years' worth of education within these walls for visual learners and those who appreciate art. The bone digging area was closed today, so we decided to get lunch instead. The food was good, the tables well spaced, and staff were truly wonderful. I will add only one note that doesn't feel good -- the flow of the cafeteria is a bit strange. In order to see all of the selections, choose, order and pay - you end up doubling back on your footsteps, nearly all the way to the cafeteria entrance. It feels like the biggest improvement, if any to be suggested, is this Flow in the cafeteria to the cash register. *This is Not a complaint, but rather a feature enhancement request!?* Otherwise, I fell a little more in love with Pittsburgh and the proud city wide support of museums like these. ❤️💕❤️💕 Pictures posted are intended to be of the actual facilities rather than the art, with the exception of the Geologic map of Pennsylvania.

Extensive museum with large prehistoric, geologic, and taxidermic collections, as well as a couple exhibits on human cultures (Ancient Egyptian and Inuit). The dinosaur halls are the highlight of the experience and contain the first intact T. rex fossil ever discovered. Many exhibits are beginning to show their age, though, and the building can be tricky to navigate, especially if some halls are closed.

This is our first time here. This place is huge. It took us most of the early afternoon to go through. The dinosaurs skeletons were very cool. The kids loved them and so did I. My wife loved the art museum I thought it was ok. (Just not my cup of tea). The natural history museum was really cool though. To see everything in here would take you all day. We will definitely be back to look around more

A wonderful museum to explore all day! There is plenty of seating to go at your own leisure. We wish the cafe had been open later but there are plenty of yummy bites nearby. I do feel the Native American History Exhibit should have been easier to access! There is a connection to not only American Art and History but pieces from all over the globe. A must stop!

We make it a point to come here when we are in Pittsburgh. The kids absolutely love looking at all the dinosaur exhibits while I enjoyed their new Dino armor exhibit. Worth the extra 5 dollars for sure. Just one of the best museums in the country. I also want to give a shout out to lady that works there. I can't remember her name but she has been with the museum for 27 years and was supremely knowledgeable about many of the exhibits. Very sweet elderly lady.

Incredible ! Awesome! Extraordinary ! Wow and more wow. This Natural Museum in Pittsburgh is one museum that you must not missed. The dinosaurs on display are "real". The explanations are so detailed and yet simple to understand. Children will definitely be amazed by all the displays and the details of the display. Do not miss the T Rex from Pittsburgh it self. ! Certainly a must visit place. If you have visited, you need to return again!

Haven’t been here since high school. I went by myself so I could take my time and enjoy the museum. Some of the exhibits seemed a bit dated but others I loved. I love learning new things and the dinosaur exhibit is amazing. The gemstone exhibit can I say OMG.. so many gorgeous stones and jewelry. And I am in awe about how lifelike the people and animals are. I wouldn’t recommend for smaller kids the ones that were there seemed bored. But older kids would love the dinosaurs for sure. It’s not as interactive as I would expect for 2022 but all in all a great experience. I would have loved to see the art as well but I spent hours in the museum and ran out of time for the day.

This, the LARGEST museum of natural history in the US (yep that’s right!) is beyond awe inspiring, it’s a national treasure. It is a massive, well laid out museum that you can easily get lost in. From the dinosaurs to the minerals, from the art work to the various and fascinating live exhibits, you’ll find a true world of wonder and amazement.

The history museum I visited was a fantastic experience that brought history to life. From the moment I entered, I was impressed by the layout and organization of the exhibits. The museum had a diverse collection of artifacts, documents, and multimedia displays that made the past come alive. One exhibit that stood out to me was the section on ancient civilizations. The artifacts on display were well-preserved and accompanied by informative labels that explained their historical significance. I was particularly impressed by the life-size models of ancient structures, such as the pyramids and the Great Wall of China. Another highlight was the exhibit on the World Wars. The displays were thoughtfully arranged, with personal stories and artifacts that helped to contextualize the events of the time. The multimedia displays were also effective, featuring interviews with veterans and footage from the front lines. Overall, the history museum was a great experience that offered an informative and engaging way to learn about the past. The exhibits were well-curated, the displays were interactive, and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend this museum to anyone interested in history

Took my wife for her first trip to the museum. She was so excited to see the mummies. Of course the entire Egypt exhibit was closed. Very disappointed. I thought the entry fees were high as well. $35 per person and $10 to park.

Absolutely the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to, hands down! The ceremony was in the statue hall, which was so detailed and gorgeous. Then we checked out the greek castings in the museum during cocktail hour. They are casts from the same monuments in Greece, which is amazing. The detail and history were so cool to see! We watched the first dance from the balconies in the reception hall, and i felt like i was an 18th-century noble! Dinner was a beautiful salad with a roll, mushroom ravioli, filet and crab cake with mashed potatoes and broccoli - everything was so delicious, i definitely overate and had to walk off the meal for the rest of the night. But not before getting a few take home boxes of home made cookies from the smorgasbord of cookies table. Truly a wedding and museum to remember!

It's an interesting place. If your into this kind of thing then it might be for you. I've never been to a museum and wanted to go to one. It wasn't what I was expecting. The best areas in my opinion was the dinosaurs and the minerals. It was more like a zoo without animals that are alive. I'm by no means an art person so the stuff people called art was beyond me. A pile of dirty pellets under a box I just don't see as art. I still don't know why there was another area in the place you had to pay to get into after already paying to get into the museum. I didn't pay to enter the area because by the time i got there i was already kind of let down by it all. Also there is just a big empty room with a couple Greek statues which i felt was pointless and a waste of space. There wasn't anything Greek besides that in the whole place. I just can't give it a fair review since it was my first. I felt let down afterwards and won't be going back as I just didn't enjoy it. My kids 12 and 5 didn't care much for it either. But if your into museums and art it might be your thing. If you have kids I'd recommend the science center over this all day.

Thus museum is absolutely surrounding. The dinosaur exhibit it's astounding. The displays of minerals and gems goes on and on, but it wasn't boring. The huge variety of colors and shapes kept me enthralled.

Really nice museum with a lot of interesting exhibits. You could easily spend a few hours here. I ended up going twice - once to see the natural history side and once to see the art side and I spent two hours each time. I booked tickets ahead and went on a weekday and it was pretty empty. Not sure what it looks like on weekends but I don’t think you would need to book ahead most days.

I have always enjoyed my experience coming to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History at least every other year if not yearly. I enjoy sharing these same experiences my children now. The only reason I am not giving it a 5 star review is because of my experience today with a staff member. I don't expect the staff to know everything about everything, all I expect as a visitor is that staff can at least assist to point you in the right direction for your answers or be honest. But today there were 2 staff members in the dinosaur area and I had a simple question about how the area had changed from when I was the age of my 6 year old daughter and nephew and only asked the staff so I knew what I was telling them was correct time frame for the museum's changes to that exhibit. The lady at first didn't understand my question before jumping to just begin to read an exhibit sign, so I repeated my question before I tried stating it differently, because she wasn't understanding or even trying to listen to what my question was before starting to answer. The other staff member assisted with the answer once he understood what I was asking after multiple attempts and I thanked him and appreciated both their time but before I could finish the lady started lecturing me on mask placement on my face because although I was covered nose to mouth, it was starting to possibly come down and she just wanted to prevent me from being told to fix it later. If the lady would have just taken the time to understand my question or if she didn't know the answer just let the gentleman staff member answer, I wouldn't have had to repeat myself through the mask because she kept interrupting or jumping to get own conclusions. The way she was lecturing me on future saving me if it does go below my nose as if I was a child or just a person that beneath her apparently who shouldn't have spoken to her in the first place or just accepted her incorrect responses rather then making her look ridiculous in front of her gentleman coworker she clearly wanted to continue talking with. After that encounter the gentleman staff member continued his walk through leaving the lady to her area, she just kept a distance but close eye and watch of me as if I was some kind of threat. I told her I wouldn't be asking anymore questions in that exhibit so there would be no way my mask would get so much wear and tear to just fall off my face. So to that lady treating visitors in front of their children like they are dirt because she couldn't answer my question, I hope you find new employment opportunities soon and find your place in life because it definitely isn't here.
