The best views ever! Make sure you get there during working hours of the museum, because of the possibility to climb on the top of the monument - that will give you the chance to enjoy the stunning 360 degrees view over surrounding mountains. At this location a few Bulgarian volunteers and Russian troops stopped enormous Turkish army during 1878-1879 Russian-Turkish war performing the miracle that won the war and brought independence to Bulgaria.

It's one of the most spectacular peaks in Stara planina mountain. If you are traveling from South to North Bulgaria that is the best way to get through the mountains. Road was good and Shipka is a great stop to have a break. There's a carpark near the steps, no toilet facilities. You can go inside the monument and get to the top - donation accepted. There's an extreme path to the rock called Orlovo gnezdo. It's not secured so be careful. The views to tracian valley will take your breath away. It's a very important place of the Bulgarian history during the battles against the ottomans

А holy place for every Bulgarian. Here were some of the fiercest battles during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation. The place is sung by the great poet Ivan Vazov. At the top is a monument-museum of the heroes of those battles. One little-known fact is that more soldiers died here from freezing than in combat. Every year on March 3 (Liberation Day) we climb from the town of Shipka to the top. A place to visit.
