The Cathedral is dedicated to the great 16th century Spanish Jesuit missionary saint who is also patron of the Church in Australia and patron of our first bishop Francis Murphy (1844-58). Initial construction began in 1851 and there has been various phases of activity leading to the installation of the tower in 1996. Building of the Cathedral began in 1851, making it the oldest cathedral in Australia. The tower was not completed until 1996 – 145 years almost to the day after workers had dug the first sod for the beginning of work on the Cathedral site. The Cathedral is usually a busy place with several daily Masses, Rosary and confessions as well as weddings, baptisms and funerals. It is both a Cathedral and a parish church, so there are usually many diocesan and parish events held here.

Looks nice, but looks pretty similar to most other cathedrals. I did not go inside but I’m sure it is equally as nice as the outside.

Love this church ⛪ bang smack in Adelaide CBD. There are a few services during the day. Lovely architecture inside and outside. If you're looking for some quiet time to reflect or pray during the day, just sit in this quiet church for a few minutes and you can already feel the God's presence. Viva Cristo Rey🙏🏻

Love this church a lot. Its architecture both in and out are marvellous. I went during Christmas. Midnight mass was busy and lively. It has underground parking. Given this is a Roman Catholic Church, it was open on Christmas day.

The superb architecture of the cathedral is good enough reason for anyone visiting Adelaide CBD to visit St. Francis Xavier Church. The masses conducted are also good and very spiritual.

Well preserved and maintained. Lucky to have had a chance to visit this wonderful piece of history. More so we were just in time for a prayer service before commencement of the mass.

This church is a go-to church as it’s located near Adelaide Central Market and Victoria Square. It’s always open for everyone and you can light a candle for free or if you prefer to donate some amount of money, you can choose that option. It’s very beautiful inside and out. Although sometimes when i try to pray, I get distracted by the loud noise of the piano.

Wonderfully built Roman Catholic Church dedicated to one of the most holy and impactful Saints. The Church architecture is an example of Gothic revival architecture. Please visit if you have a chance but be respectful of any services taking place. This is a house of God and you can take pictures after any service is completed.

A Very beautiful Cathedral. Reverent and traditional. A perfect place to pray with a lovely history behind it. A gorgeous Statue of St Mary McKillop in the grounds and and lovely Statue of St Francis in the foyer of the church.

First visit in many years. Church Service was powerful. Several young men on altar throughout service. Possibly one ordained Priest with Deacons assisting. All dressed in white vestments. Birthday Feast of Mary the Mother of Jesus. Sung Mass, Young woman sang beautifully, Gregorian chant I believe. Heavenly

Very impressive Church. I was trying to find the statue next door. But couldn't find it. Looked on Goggle Maps but nothing. Please update your website.

A beautiful big cathedral with breathtaking splendid architecture. It is situated in the city. Take a tram to Victoria Square and walked 5 mins. There are 3 daily masses and rosary recital after the 12.10pm mass. If you thirst for God’s words, listen to the homily after the gospel reading. A good place for prayer and reflection.

A sense of reverence and tradition paired with 21st Century convenience. Sunday mass includes a choir accompanying a traditional organ and incense as would be expected in a cathedral. Donations can be made by tapping your phone or card or you can make donations on the collection plate.

My place of refuge. I always come here at least once a week to see a mass or even just to sit in silence. This place is so serene. Sitting inside for a few moments will give you a peace of mind. ❤️

Love the holiness we felt while inside. Definitely worth stepping just to say a prayer.

Was nice. Feels wrong to give it less than 5 stars given it is a Special Church. But please, please can we fix whatever was wrong with the Audio system in the church. We were there for a wedding, which was nice. But having good audio would have been better
