The main floor is broken up into four wings. Each wing spans a different time period. The gift shop is located on the main floor as well as access to the sculpture garden which is a beautiful setting. Downstairs there are south and southeast Asian sculptures. Then kind of tucked away on the lower level was a special exhibit. Saw a lot of famous pieces here. I’ve seen so many prints of Diego Rivera’s The Flower Vendor, and it was great to finally see the original. There were also pieces by Van Gogh and Picasso.

This is now my favorite museum. It is quiet and small, but packed with some of the most amazing art in the world. The garden cafe is also reasonably priced for some really great food. One word…DEGAS. No wait, two words…Van Gogh!

As beautiful as ever! It has been several years since I visited the Norton Simon. It was one of my favorite museums in so cal. Perfect smallish museum with loads to see. You can explore the whole museum, from ancient artifacts to modern art, in one day plus there are beautiful grounds to walk around plus a lovely cafe. If you have never visited this museum, you are missing out!

Norton Simon is a treasure of a museum. It is right off the 134 freeway in Pasadena. So much to see. My favorite part is how you can download the app and get a private little tour right from your cell phone. Love the garden as well so beautiful. Parking is free and if you have your student ID you get in for free. I love going to Norton Simon for my weekend outing.

Such a variety of paintings. Really enjoyed walking thru the galleries and seeing the greats. Nice sculpture garden outdoors. All lit up at night. Didn't even know this museum existed. Heard the name.

Parking: plenty of site and on adjacent street. Free. Entry: paid or free once a month or frew with bank certain cards on certain days I went on a free day, the parking lot was nearly full but I found a spot in 5 minutes. Surprisingly a good amount of well known artists including Picasso, Rodin, Rivera, van Gogh and Monet. They have sections for Italian, Dutch, French, and Spanish as well as small sections of 'modern art' like Warhol. Downstairs they have Oriental art, mostly Hindu idols and some Buddhist statues. The best art here is the Italian. In terms of LA county art museums I would place this second only to Getty center and Villa. On site outside the building they have the famous 'thinker' sculpture. Behind the building they have a pond, and nicely manicured garden with a Cafe. Definitely worth a visit

It's a favorite of ours! Be sure to walk around the pond with the water lilies and sculptures. There is a Cafe out there. I have yet to avail myself of it. We always visit after Huntington Gardens, but today we visited the quirky, extensive, singular, and fun Bunny Museum for 2 hours, then enjoyed 90 minutes here at the pond and in the collection. Guests even got to take home a free art print today! Military are free. Parking is free, in the lot.

This is my all-time favorite art museum in all of Los Angeles and I am so mad at myself for finding this a year ago. I have been going to a lot of the other larger museums like LACMA since I was young but for some reason I missed this one, possibly due to its location, but that was a big mistake on my part. The quality of work displayed here, the diversity of the artists, as well as the grounds surrounding the building are really next level and unbeatable in Los Angeles in my opinion (except both Getty locations). They have art on display from all over the world and it’s hard to beat the lineup of artists. Parking is extremely easy and plentiful and honestly it’s not ever as crowded as some of the other museums in Los Angeles like LACMA or the Getty. Some of the most beautiful paintings I have seen in Los Angeles are housed in this museum. I could not recommend it more honestly even if you hate art you should go here it’s honestly one of the very best museums in Los Angeles in terms of the arts. It is really well designed and a real treat for anyone any age.

Such a southern California gem. The museum houses six Van Goghs and they're stunning. It's a wonderful collection. Highly recommend spending a few hours here and seeing it in person. Super friendly staff too!

A very grown up art museum. Mostly paintings on the upper levels, divided by region and century. The bottom level was largely sculpture and carved bronze, stone and wood statues of Asian origin. There were 2 beautiful outdoor sculpture gardens and the grounds were clean and beautifully landscaped. Small cafe outside with a selection of drinks and light fare. $15 regular admission for adluts

It was the first time visiting this beautiful place. The atmosphere was so nice. I really enjoyed observing the art. A lot of great artwork from different period of time. Free tickets for students and no parking fee. What a wonderful day! I’ll recommend this place to my friends. 😊

This is a large museum with a great collection of both artwork and archeological pieces from a large range of places around the world and time periods. It has a particularly large number of paintings from Europe and several from the masters. Only half of the museum was open when I went and that was a big shame as there was so much more to see. I will definitely be going back. You would need half the day to see them all - I could spend a whole day there. It also has a nice garden with a cafe with good coffee.

I definitely recommend planning a trip to visit. The amount of paintings and sculptures collected is breathtaking. The outside garden was stunning, and the staff was very welcoming. I'm still on a high from just being able to experience a snapshot in time from the paintings to the sculptures.

Do not miss this. We could not believe this is the collection of one man. Be sure and see his story in the movie theater. We have never stood inches away from so many grand master works and were left speechless. The building and grounds are also impeccable.

Beautiful museum with a lovely sculpture garden! I was not expecting it to have so many big names, this was the first time I've seen an original Picasso. An awesome selection of South and Southeast Asian art as well. It took about 3 hours to see everything.

The Norton Simon Museum is one of my favorite places to visit . I love the magnificent collection of beautiful artwork and the museum store where one can purchase a card with works of Van Gogh or Monet or a petite replica of the Degas ballerina statue. After all of the walking around, I truly enjoy a snack by the lovely lily pond outside of the museum at the Cafe.

Such a nice Museum. Looks smaller from the exterior, but there is lots to see, and there are a few members on the team who are always friendly (especially near the Renoir paintings). There is a large variety of art and peaceful gardens. I like that they are open late on fri and sat...it makes for a nice beginning to a night out.

Norton Simon Museum is a true artistic gem. With its captivating paintings, breathtaking sculptures, and ever-changing exhibitions, it's a must-visit for art lovers. The sculpture garden is a peaceful escape, offering a moment of mindfulness and the chance to enjoy a coffee. A perfect blend of culture and tranquility ✨

Small but interesting museum. Many recognizable names, not so many recognizable pieces, so it was an eye opening experience. I will say I was less than impressed with the lighting on some paintings, they were a bit difficult to see fully with the glare coming off the glass encasings.

Great audio tour through your smart phone. BRING WIRELESS EARBUDS. My wife and I shared a pair and it worked great. Many of the works on display have a code on the information card, displayed with the work. When you enter the code, an informative, dramatized, audio recording will play. Some have special, age appropriate, recordings for children.

Sixty years in Southern California and this is my first visit to the Norton Simon. It’s a right-sized museum, big enough to immerse in art for hours or breeze through and pick a few works to sit and soak in. Loved being greeted by Rodin’s masterpiece The Burghers of Calais outside the entry, I didn’t know Simon had one! The exhibition featuring June Wayne and the Tamarind Lithography Workshop was excellent, a reminder of the extraordinary art produced over the years in LA. I was especially excited to see John McLaughlin’s Untitled c. 1946 in Simon’s collection, a wonderfully tasty little painting by one of my favorite Ca artists who most haven’t heard of.

Norton Simon in Pasadena is a hidden gem museum that is absolutely beautiful, it is filled with hundreds of historical artworks from European art to Asian art. Walk inside to the garden and take a walk across the pond. Such a serene place and quiet spot to relax. Have fun exploring everything it has to offer and go back in time to see the classic pieces of art that will leave you intrigued to learn more about the history of it. It’s such a colorful place and I’m in love with it! 😍✨🎨

Gorgeous museum with so many pieces to study, even the outdoor resting area is lovely to look at. I came here for my best friend's birthday back in January and there was so much to look at on the first floor that we didn't even have time to make it to the second floor before we had to leave for dinner plans. Would love to visit again! And they have student discounts, but none of us had to pay! Super cool!

The museum is 15 dollars per adult and children 18 and younger are free. Students are also free with student ID. It's a fun weekend thing to do to take in culture and enjoy art. They also have a cafe out in the garden with chips, flatbread pizza, coffee and beer if you get hungry during your visit.

The Norton Simon Museum is one of the best in the country (and I’ve been to most museums, including Europe). Some of the highlights, and works that are extremely difficult to see in the US are paintings by Giorgione (teacher of Titian) and his teacher, Giovanni Bellini. The museum also has a large collection of impressionist works by all the greats, with an emphasis on Degas. I knew I was in for something special when I counted 7 Rodin bronze sculptures in the courtyard just walking into the museum!

The last time I stepped foot inside this building, I was probably wearing a school uniform, scared by the two-headed snake, enchanted by the gem room, and transfixed by the African room. Needless to say, there was no DJ, cocktails, or even an albino alligator then. And I have to admit, these things make an already cool experience even cooler! Plus, I'm a grownup now and I can spend as much time in the African room as I want without being shooed along by the teacher.

Quite a popular museum to visit, because we ended up spending 2 hours waiting to get in. Granted, the entry is the same for both museums - the illusions side and upside down city side. Anyways, it's a cheaper price if you do both attractions, but you can choose to pay for one museum or the other. I ended up using a groupon deal, which involved standing in line and waiting to get in, but it might be worth it to purchase through their website to get a selected time-slot instead of waiting 2 hours in line. To each their own as well as what people desire in their day.

Norton Simon Museum is an amazing contemporary art space, bright, colorful, and very engaging, expect to spend a couple of hours here. The collection rotates, but works include Warhol, Basquait, and Haring to name a few. My favorite piece so far is "Wake" by Mark Tansey, I found myself engaged in conversation about this painting for quite awhile.

First, make you you reserve your tickets online. Admission is free, so I understand that they have to limit the amount of people they let in at a time. I went during the week for a 4:00pm reservation, but showed up early around 3:30 and got in without having to wait.

This contemporary art museum usually shows some of the most prominent and interesting artists. I had the pleasure of seeing the featured Jasper Johns exhibit and thoroughly enjoyed it! I didn't know too much about him until this show. I'm really glad I had the opportunity to experience his work.

The Norton Simon Museum in nearby Pasadena houses one of the most striking private art collections in California. The collection features more than 10,000 works but only a fraction of the collection is displayed at any given time, and the exhibits rotate. Temporary exhibits feature items on loan from other museums, and many events, including workshops and lectures, take place throughout the year.

  • 5/5 eugene L. 4 years ago on Google
A must see!!! Rafael, Rubens, Rodin, Rembrandt, Picasso and all Immpressionists within a small space. Can manage in 2 hrs!!!! And not rush.

  • 3/5 Ashley P. 3 years ago on Google
The pictures you see here on google are pretty much the highlights of this museum. It has interesting exhibits but is a fairly small venue! Not counting the time spent on their special exhibit, you could make your way through all of the museum in under 2 hours because there is a limited number of exhibits. Their exhibits don't change very often so if you come often in a short time frame, then you will be looking at pretty much the same exhibits.

The Academy of Sciences has always been one of my favorite museums in the city. Since it's reopening I've visited many times during the day, and finally I had the chance to check out nightlife this past summer. It's basically the same museum plus alcohol, a DJ, and no kids running around. Awesome.
