A surprisingly original and beautiful Japanese garden right in the heart of Adelaide. The gardens can be accessed via South Terrace or Glen Osmond Road. Lots of parking out front, but it's 2 hours, so if staying longer move the car 30cm to cover the chalk mark. Gardens feature a turtle who enjoys sunbathing and lots of colorful fish in the pond. The Zen rock garden is perhaps the best in Australia. Only better ones I have seen in Kyoto. Well worth a visit.

A small garden in the city area. Beautifully decorated with water streaming down the rock garden. Beautiful bonsai plants adorning the whole area. Fresh air amidst the traffic passing by the streets. Very serene and tranquil. Plenty of carpark in front of this garden for 1/2hr parking.

The Adelaide Himeji Garden is a hidden gem, a testament to meticulous care and appreciation for nature. From the moment you step in, the tranquility envelops you, and it's evident that someone is dedicated to maintaining this oasis. The garden's design is a seamless blend of Japanese aesthetics and Adelaide's charm, creating a space that is both serene and enchanting. Every element feels purposeful, from the carefully placed stones to the vibrant flora. What struck me the most was the evident dedication to upkeep. The garden is immaculate, and it's clear that someone is passionately tending to every leaf and blossom. It's this attention to detail that makes it a must-visit destination in Adelaide. Whether you seek a peaceful escape or simply want to appreciate the beauty of a well-maintained garden, the Adelaide Himeji Garden is the perfect place to be. Kudos to those looking after this botanical masterpiece!

Small, but really pretty and well maintained Japanese garden on the southern side of Adelaide. It’s about a 10-15 min walk from the nearest free tram stop. We spent about 45 min wandering around this garden and combined it with a visit to the nearby Veale Gardens (which is very different in style and structure). The garden is free to enter and definitely worth a visit if you’re in town.

This is an incredibly lovely and calming Japanese garden. It is free to visit, but do check the opening hours! If you stay by the pond long enough and look carefully, you will see some turtles! There are some benches and small grass area to sit and relax .

A peaceful zen garden within the ring of parks surrounding Adelaide CBD. It's a small site but well managed. Most plants are local though, but makes sense given the climate difference.

Small, quaint Japanese garden. Small grassed area to relax with a book. A few chairs located around the park, but it doesn't take much to become crowded & lose it's tranquillity. Takes just a few minutes to walk around.

Beautiful Japanese style garden, peaceful time spending here. We even saw turtles and fish in the pond. This is free entry and dog friendly, make the experience even better as we can bring our pup and enjoy the beautiful small walks here.

These Japanese Gardens are one of my favourite, free “go to” outings in Adelaide! Very pretty. Well maintained. Small and peaceful. Free street parking available. Situated in the south parklands, there is opportunity to walk around the parklands. Well worth a visit if in Adelaide.

Beautiful Japanese gardens especially after we have had a bit of rain. Quite small but very peaceful and tranquil. Grab an information booklet as you walk in as it tells you information about specific places and monuments situated in there.

Very nice and peaceful place. Both structures and plants are Japanese style. A wonderful garden to take a break or have a picnic. Also ppl who come here really respect the culture and environment in the garden. Everyone contributes maintaining a quiet and peaceful public spot here. Really appreciate it. There are also other gardens around. Parking by street available. Two dog parks nearby. A playground for children with BBQ tables. Also tennis and basketball playground across the street.

Absolutely peaceful and beautiful on a sunny day. Not that many people too which is nice. I even saw some turtles in the pond on my last visit in November 2023.

A calm and relaxing, beautiful garden with a picturesque landscape. This is a great place to visit if you want an hour of relaxation. There is ample enough free parking around this place on street. Even certain spots allow 10P free parking during the weekends. The place is not busy, but you’ll find people dropping by frequently. There’s no separate place for animals to be off leash. But you can bring them for a walk.

This is a beautiful Japanese garden. Good place for photos. A calm and quiet place for you to have a lovely walk during the day. The landscape is lovely and well done. There’s ample enough parking that lasts for 10 hours. Not busy at all even during weekends.

Cute little garden on the outskirts of Adelaide CBD (takes 10-30 mins max to browse). It does feel more like a spot for locals to visit with their kids or dogs rather than a tourist attraction. We went in winter which is obviously not the best time to visit 🌳🍃 and I guess it’s not the best maintained at this time of year because there were lots of loose leaves and some area fenced off. There’s a little pond with ducks and also a proper zen garden 🦆🪷 which was nice to see in Australia as it’s uncommon.

The only downside to this little oasis is the size. Wish it was bigger. Well maintained, beautiful garden. If it's busy, can be a bit of a squeeze due to size but we have been lucky thus far. Worth a visit but unless you're setting up a picnic/place to read/relax, your looking at a 20-30 minute pop-in at most.

The garden is split into, a mountain and lake garden, and a dry rock garden, intended to be reminiscent of mountains surrounded by water. The council's  team still use the techniques they were taught by Kumada himself (who was the current garden's head designer), which are handed down as staff moved on. Maintenance of the Sea of Sand requires careful attention, so it keeps its basic pattern, showing waves coming into those islands and straight lines for the ocean.

I loved about the Himeji Adelaide Garden was how serene and calming it felt. It was a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and I found myself feeling more relaxed and at peace as soon as I stepped into the garden.

Tranquil garden. A small oasis in parkland, this walled hidden treasure is worth an explore. Can get busy so use Google to find quiet times. Some people were bringing chairs & picnic blankets which may spoil the peaceful intentions of the Japanese gardens in the first place. Turtles and small fish in the pond. There maybe carp but the water was too green to see. Suggest maybe a straw bales to fight the algae.

A beautiful place of tranquility. Great for a quiet meet up. A moment of reflection. Or just to recharge before going back to your day. Worth a visit any time.

The Adelaide Himeji Garden is an absolute treasure and a serene oasis in the heart of the city. As soon as I stepped inside, I was transported to a tranquil haven that beautifully combines Japanese culture with nature's splendor. The meticulous design of the garden perfectly captures the essence of a traditional Japanese landscape. The pristine pond, adorned with koi fish gracefully gliding through the water, and the meticulously manicured plants and trees all contribute to an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. I found myself captivated by the attention to detail in every corner of the garden. Each stone, bridge, and lantern seemed to be thoughtfully placed, creating a sense of harmony and balance that is truly remarkable. The garden's beauty is not only visual but also auditory, as the gentle rustling of leaves and the gentle flow of water added a sense of calm to my visit.

A piece of Japan, small but so beautiful. You wouldn’t imagine how beautiful the garden is. There is a pond/ small lake inside, different kind of flowers everywhere, everything is so beautifully organised. Grab your snacks and enjoy the bite in the garden.

It reminded me of my past trips to Japan, it really looks like a Japanese garden set-up. It is quite small, but peaceful and really serene to walkaround esp early in the morning and late afternoon. Worth it to visit garden, you'll absolutely loved it esp if you like the Japanese culture. It is located within the heart of Adelaide. There are few parks within the area l you can see and walk around too. They will also have a Light Cycles event every winter season.

A pretty spot if looking for a quiet place in the city to relax or for photo opportunities. Smaller than expected. I wouldn't travel from outside the city to come here but would happily revisit if other things brought me to this side of the city again.

I googled pictures before my visit to ensure the quality, cuz I have been to Japan several times. Turns out it has a very well established Japanese traditional style, definitely worth going again.

Such a beautiful place in the Adelaide city parklands. It is open every day from 8am and free to enter. A magical space. There were all these little clearings with a random boulder in each and every one had been found by someone. One person was reading, another had a laptop working, another had a book and two whole gatherings of people were sitting to the right of the zen garden that seemed freshly raked.

A small enclosed garden in a Japanese style. You wouldn't know it was there, or even what it was, unless you looked for it or happened to find it in Google Maps, or if you were told about it some other way. Its very well kept and a great destination for visiting Buddhist monks 🙂. It's a garden of friendship, and I hope the friendship is expressed both ways. Makes me want to visit Himeji, or the city /location who expressed this friendship, to see what interesting things we have done to reciprocate.

Beautiful Garden in the city i wouldnt say tranquil as you can hear the traffic driving past but other than that it is an amazing little walk around you can get around the whole thing in about 10mins it is smaller than I expected. So I recommend bringing a book and soaking up the sounds of the little waterfall. The parking around on the street is free for 2 hours so that was a bonus. 10 out of 10 would recommend for a free little outing.
