This is THE spot for blintzes, pierogis, and Jewish staples. They’re a vegetarian spot with a ton of classics and some unique options too. The food is so delicious (their blintzes are an obsession of mine) and the restaurant itself has perfect old school charm. The space is small, the cook at the behind the counter flat top grill can reach the counter seating and even the tables to hand you your food. It’s a no frills spot that continues to serve up amazing food with really great people working there.

Incredible value and hearty food! This hole in the wall diner has that classic feel to it (been around for over 70 years so makes sense) and super friendly service. Food is made fresh in front of your eyes the moment you order. We got the B&H Special Omelette and the Challah French toast - both generous servings too. The prices simply don’t reflect how good this place is!

A very cool, old-school style Jewish diner serving tons of vegetarian options. I walked up to the counter and ordered vegetarian lasagna and salmon croquettes with house fries. It was all amazing!

I want to come here for everyday and try all their food. Highlights are the matzo ball soup, cheese blintz, and white fish sandwich. I really want to try the pierogis and borscht. Not much room, so highly recommend getting in early on a weekday.

I don’t give B&H five stars because it rivals Le Bernardin in the high French culinary arts, but because it delivers superb milichg (kosher dairy) dishes. Try the latkes, the matzo all soup, but do not leave without trying the blintzes! To die for! See the before and after blueberry and cheese blintzes pictures below. My grandmothers are kvelling that I’m reviewing this.

One of my favourite places to eat in Manhattan. Food can be hit or miss (my matzo brei was a little bland last time) but the amazing staff and friendly, comfortable vibe more than make up for that. Blintzes and knishes are also a highlight and the fact that almost everything is veg (aside from some fish dishes) is a huge bonus.

Small space but quick service with great classics. Ordered a whitefish sandwich and cup of mushroom barley to go because it was a busy Saturday afternoon - order was ready in no time at all, even though every seat was filled. Whitefish sandwich was perfect size - there was an appropriate bread to filling ratio. Pickle was a nice plus! Also not your typical dill pickle- had more of a softer flavor to it, versus acidic/sharp. Soup was pretty standard really but hit the spot. Not too thin or thick of a base. Personally enjoyed the flavors and didn't find them lacking. Definitely will come back to try some of their other items!

Alright, I feel like an absolute a-hole right now by crapping on a small business but I feel like I need to give my honest opinion based on the quality and price. I ordered for pickup - a tuna melt and a cup of borscht - which was one of the daily specials for $14. It was ready when I came to pick it up. Place is teeny tiny and the service was minimal. The food was just simply not that good. The borscht was missing the "homey-ness" that I usually love about borscht. The tuna salad in the tuna melt was meh and the sandwich was soooo soggy. This place has a reputation for being a cheap neighborhood spot but $14 for a small soup and sandwich didn't feel like a steal to me. I'd maybe give it one more try just to see if I can figure out what the fuss is about but I was really underwhelmed.

Our server whom i can only assume as being the owner was very funny and accomodating. The good quality food was not reflective of the cheap price point and worth the trip from anywhere. A genuine NYC breakfast experience in the heart of Manhattan.

This place is great! really homely food, well priced as portions are huge, it's quick service and tastes really good! Had a load of things, but the borsht soup and latkehs were stand-out

This is a gem in the east village! Homey, comfort and simple food. Made to perfection, no need for anything fancy as it was perfectly simple and delicious. Definitely worth a try!

My favorite diner in the neighborhood. Having an early morning omelet here is the best and very good value. The chef Leo also makes the best tuna melt. All fresh and made to order on the spot; no microwaved nonsense.

The food was better than okay (note to B&H: get better bagels) but the atmosphere was supernaturally good. I've lived in the East Village for over 40 years (yikes!) and this place is the real deal - genuine neighborhood mini-diner with the best soups and Challah French toast. Go, sit in the back, and groove on the vibrations.

Nice location and classic deli vibes. Had the challah sandwiches and these were great. Tuna melt was fantastic. Also had the fried flounder but this was a bit tasteless. Also had the matzo ball soup and this was really not good in our opinion - didn’t like the flavours at all. Perhaps however it was authentic/good but just not to my palate!

B & H Dairy - Kosher Vegetarian Joint on 2nd Avenue. If you want to eat at a real deal New York icon, you gotta come check out this diner. I believe they have been around since 1938. Its an incredibly tight squeeze inside and the feel immediately is out of a classic 70-80s old Manhattan movie, from the counters, the kitchen and the staff working the grills. And if you can, absolutely sit at the counter and not at a table. The food is good, but the staff is even better, quintessential New Yorkers, that would be hard to find anywhere else. The experience here is just as much the people who work there as much as the food. All the classic items of a Jewish Deli, Omelets, Challah bread, blintzes, potato pancakes, yada yada. They also sell T SHIRTS that say: "Challah! Por favor" $20 bucks, I m going to get one the next time I go back. There is a line cook at the counter that is latino and he appears to have been there forever, I presume that why they have a catch phrase, Challah Por Favor... again, sit by the counter and get a show from him. The place is so tiny its very difficult to score a seat, forget Sunday mornings, I was able to snag a counter seat on a Sat morning around 11 AM. BTW: I ordered the 'Smoked Whitefish melt", they grill the Challah and stuff the whitefish in between, and OMG, the grilled Challah with the smoky whitefish was fantastic.

This place screams authenticity and there really isn't a better word for it. You are shoulder to shoulder with all the locals who know about this gem and it's always so crowded for good reason. The wait stuff is incredibly friendly and QUICK. The prices are almost too good to be true, and the portions are more than filling. Everything tastes fresh and I highly recommend the juices.

Not fancy by any means, but the food speaks for itself. The cheese Blintzes were perfectly crispy on the outside and the cheese was light and fluffy. The cold borscht was flavorful and it came with a dollop of fresh sour cream. The menu is all dairy (and kosher) so don't expect bacon cheese burgers. (You can get those anywhere). If you want to sample delicious and authentic Eastern European recipes, B &H is a great place to choose. Highly recommended

Everything about B&H is five star. It’s possibly the most crammed restaurant in the city. It’s a quintessential dining experience, like going to Katz deli. I ordered the whitefish salad on challah with a cup of matzoh ball soup. Delicious. They took my order by calling out from the counter while I was sitting at a table. Then, when the food was ready, they handed it to folks eating at the counter who had to turn around and serve me. Everything about this place is old school New York and I love it

Delicious, quick service, I will definitely come back. The staff is cheerful, but it felt like they wanted you to leave quickly, there were no people, it confused me a bit. Everything else was nice.

Have come here for years. It’s not only delicious, it a piece of NYC history. This place is perfect. The food, the service, the space. It is classic and I hope it always stays the same. Definitely bring your friends and rent it out for a small party, will be fun!! Their blintzes and chocolate cake were wonderful.
