Avenue.
If
you
want
to
eat
at
a
real
deal
New
York
icon,
you
gotta
come
check
out
this
diner.
I
believe
they
have
been
around
since
1938.
Its
an
incredibly
tight
squeeze
inside
and
the
feel
immediately
is
out
of
a
classic
70-80s
old
Manhattan
movie,
from
the
counters,
the
kitchen
and
the
staff
working
the
grills.
And
if
you
can,
absolutely
sit
at
the
counter
and
not
at
a
table.
The
food
is
good,
but
the
staff
is
even
better,
quintessential
New
Yorkers,
that
would
be
hard
to
find
anywhere
else.
The
experience
here
is
just
as
much
the
people
who
work
there
as
much
as
the
food.
All
the
classic
items
of
a
Jewish
Deli,
Omelets,
Challah
bread,
blintzes,
potato
pancakes,
yada
yada.
They
also
sell
T
SHIRTS
that
say:
"Challah!
Por
favor"
$20
bucks,
I
m
going
to
get
one
the
next
time
I
go
back.
There
is
a
line
cook
at
the
counter
that
is
latino
and
he
appears
to
have
been
there
forever,
I
presume
that
why
they
have
a
catch
phrase,
Challah
Por
Favor...
again,
sit
by
the
counter
and
get
a
show
from
him.
The
place
is
so
tiny
its
very
difficult
to
score
a
seat,
forget
Sunday
mornings,
I
was
able
to
snag
a
counter
seat
on
a
Sat
morning
around
11
AM.
BTW:
I
ordered
the
'Smoked
Whitefish
melt",
they
grill
the
Challah
and
stuff
the
whitefish
in
between,
and
OMG,
the
grilled
Challah
with
the
smoky
whitefish
was
fantastic.
