It's a calm, beautiful, and spacious place. It's also close to nature, has free food, and lots of parking. Tripadvisor reviewer: This is a Shiva Shetram, but there's no temple. The place is calming and serene. Sarath: This place has a great parking lot and serves free food for devotees.

A typical example of a well maintained holy atmosphere before and after COVID-Outbreak. The Oachira temple is known to have a 12-days festival during the Sabarimala Season [ Mid November-December first week ; Vrischigam (Malayalam Month) 1-12 ] when there exist the most crowded atmosphere in an year. In the midst of Covid Pandemic, the office bearers of the temple managed to create a socially distant spiritual vibrance to bring back the lost ambience.

Oachira is on the border of Kollam and Allappuzha districts, next to the National Highway 47. This temple is known "DakshinaKashi"(SouthaKashi). This ancient pilgrimage center is centered on the Para Brahma temple that is devoted to the Para Brahman or Param Brahman or Ohmkaram (The Universal Consciousness) and covers thirty six acres of land. The temple is a symbol of non-idol worship where the supreme force of nature is revered. The belief is that the supreme power is shapeless and forms the basis of the temple doctrine. Also there are strong beliefs that the name derived from Uvachanchira as Uvachan means Lord Shiva. Unlike the other temples, the Oachira Temple is unique in the sense that it does not have covered structure. People worship the Para Brahma under the trees. Here the annual festival 'Oachirakkali' being held on every year in the month of June.

The Oachira Temple is a truly unique and spiritually significant destination in Kerala, India. Nestled in the serene village of Oachira, this temple is unlike any other in the region. What sets it apart is the absence of a traditional temple structure, idols, or even a roof. Instead, it is an open-air sanctum where nature and divinity blend seamlessly. Visiting Oachira Temple is a serene and contemplative experience. The temple is dedicated to the Universal Consciousness, and visitors can witness the sacred Padanilam, a granite pathway symbolizing the feet of the Divine, surrounded by lush greenery and a tranquil pond. Devotees and tourists alike come here to meditate, find inner peace, and connect with the divine in a natural setting.

Ochira temple is one of the ancient temple in kollam district in kerala. This is considered as one of the sacred places in kerala. This temple is also said to be "DakshinaKashi"(SouthKashi). The temple is very unique and very special as it practises worship without an idol, and it is believed to be run by the supreme force of Nature. It's a parabrahma temple (ohmkaram) and is widespread and an open temple spread in about 36 acres of land... Here in the temple all devotees can donate calves as an offering and also it has a custom of donating the clay idols of human body parts to the Supreme Power parabrahma , it's believed that if we are suffering from any illness in any of the body parts , that's completely cured... It is believed that the idol represents the diseased body part, and the offering will cure the sick person.

Oachira is one of the encient and famous temple in Kerala. It is also known as'Dakshina kashi'.It is a Parabrahma temple and covers nearly 36 acres of land.It is located in side of NH66 at Oachira. Main speciality of this temple is that there is no sreecovil.People worshipping to Banyan tree and there is no idol or diety but dedicated to parabrahma. Oachira Kali, Oachira 12 vilak and 28th Onam is the main festival occasion here....Really a good experience to visit this temple in these occasions...During 28th Onam, the ground is filled with lots of Ox Sculptures called "Ochira kala" with different sizes from different places (Each place called "Kara") most of them are giant sizes. Ochira 12 vilak is in Vrishikam month (December season).

Every year the Oachira Vrischikam Festival is celebrated during December and January. Oachirakali is a famous ritual performed here during June and it involves mock-fighting in muddy water by traditional martial art experts. And "Irupathattam onam" (28 days after Onam) is also celebrated. It is the festival of cattle. In this festival, huge "Eduppu kala" (gigantic idols of bull made of cloth&hay) are made. They are then pulled on giant wheels to the Oachira Temple from the site where they are made. Normally there are around 50 such structures. It is the biggest festival in "Onattu Kara" which is an area of a few square miles. Oachirakkali was actually a war exercise performed annually by soldiers of Kayamkulam Raja. Nearby, about 108 Kalaries were in 52 karas up to the beginning of the 20th century. Soldiers belonging to the above Karas met together at Oachira in the Malayalam month of Mithuna every year and performed war-like exercises. This is what is called Oachirakkali. Ward and Conner, two British officials entrusted to survey of Travancore in the beginning of the 19th century, made their observations about Oachira in their report. In the report it was made clear that there was a very old and damaged temple on the eastern side of the Padanilam. It was also disclosed that there was a large reservoir at the center of the vast ground on which the temple stands, (which was now known as Kallukettuchira), and which is outside the temple compound today.

Ochira temple is a famous temple in Kerala that attracts many tourists, especially during the festival season. I visited the temple with my family and enjoyed the amazing festivities. However, I was disappointed to see the amount of plastic and food waste that littered the area around the temple. It is sad that some tourists do not respect the sanctity and beauty of the temple and its surroundings.

Incredible positive vibes and ambience. Seems the nature and the ancient trees there have some special field that instils peace and calm to ones mind and spirit. Sit some time under the holy sahasradala tree in silence, just doing nothing for some time to experience what I am trying to convey.

It's very close to my house and a visit to the temple complex especially at night is an experience of it's own... Idols are worshiped on the open platforms around ancient big trees and the atmosphere is of pure bliss. The only thing I hated and which is a very recent development is where the priests chide you into praying at the platforms asking us to worship the artis and all just for money. It has become a disgusting business. If you don't heed to such entreats the place is a wonderful and liberating place of worship.

Oachira is a unique and ancient place of worship. What sets it apart is the absence of a formal structure or idol. Instead, it's an open space where nature is revered. Pilgrims visit to pay their respects and participate in rituals without the constraints of walls or idols. The temple's tranquil and serene ambiance, along with its distinctive traditions, make it a must-visit destination for those interested in Kerala's rich cultural heritage.

I have been visiting this temple occasionally ever since my late father took me to this holy place with him when I was nearly 10 years old. ( Now I am nearing 74 ) . I missed the annual festival season visits only during my stay abroad. But I compensated it whenever I came back during my annual leave. The ambience of the place have changed a lot during these decades, but the moment you try to attune your mind to the spiritual atmosphere , you get what you want, peace, happiness ...and a lot of positive energy. The concerned temple authority has done a lot of improvement for the convenience of the devotees which is very admirable. The most important offering of this holy place is "Annadaanam" . Feeding the hungry .... All the devotees, please bear in mind , Annadaanam is Mahadaanam.

It is a temple where there is no statue for worship. The ditey is worshipped as paramathma . An immense positive energy could be felt there. Just sit relax and meditate and you will feel it.

First time visit..Stunning..Temple is inside a massive landscape..I think acres..Nice ambience.Devotees offering bulls to lord Shiva as its his vehicle as per hindu ideology. One thing i didnt liked was, a bull is been utilized by human as a worship. One can touch the bull and pray and give any amount of money to the caretaker of the bull..poor bull is standing for so long, that animal wishes to take some rest, but we ugly humans controlling for there own selfish purpose..

The place is very calm and quiet and open 24hours. There's no deity or sanctum sanatorium and the temple is dedicated to the 'Parabrahma'. There are a couple of big trees that people worship. The place is vast and there's a temple pond too.

Ochira Parabrahma temple is an ancient temple where devotees pray in front of huge banyan trees. The song 'ambalamilathe aaltharayil vazhum' from the movie Paada mudra resonates with the serene atmosphere within the temple. The trees, the sandy floors, the wind and the music instantly brings a sense of spirituality. We visited with family on a pleasant evening and it was beautiful.

A temple without Sreekovil and any dedicated idols. Worshipping nature as god and finding God's presence in nature. Two big and very old banyan trees with different idols underneath them are the main attraction.

  • 5/5 Harikrishnan P S. 1 year ago on Google
Peaceful and the main attraction is there are oxes everywhere in the temple and there is lots of trees also

  • 3/5 Siji J. 11 months ago on Google
It's called a temple but it's not a traditional temple. It's based around 2 trees. From the looks of it these trees look very old. There are priests at these trees and will do your religious stuff like at a traditional temple. There are a lot of cows around and some are dressed up in fancy/formal attire. As with most place like this, take mosquito repellent as they will have a feast on you..!

We human, religious people consider temples, mosques and churches as the place for divine paradise. Being a religious man I often visit this temple for relaxation and to overcome stress from this lifestyle. Oachira temple is well-known for its architectural characteristics. Usually a divine incarnated murti is placed inside the temple. But here we are not seeing any building to cover it. Here the murti is too much amalgamated to the nature. Murtis are placed beneath of large banyan trees. Unlike other temples Oachira Parabrahma Temple is welcome believers 24x7. Vrischika month of Malayalam month is the festival time of Oachira temple.

The place where you will understand the true definition of worship, deity and prayer. This is how beautiful the Hindu culture is in real life, visit the Oachira temple once. Disconnect from your mixed up life, enter the Oachira temple, then it's just you, the ground, the trees, the deities and the sky. The entrance to spirituality. Experience it and return to your normal life. You will realize what actually matters and what doesn't.

The Oachira Temple, located in Kerala, India, is unique as it lacks a traditional structure or deity idol. Instead, it focuses on a sacred ground known as the "Padanilam" where devotees worship without any formal rituals. The temple is dedicated to the concept of universal unity and attracts pilgrims seeking spiritual experiences.
