São Bento Station - This is a highly recommended point of interest even though you are not catching a train here. Enter into the hall is surrounded by the stunning art of blue tile walls. Many people came here just for a picture of this art. Amazing.

In old town Porto this railway station is a must visit. It is historical. It’s waiting hall is full of iconic tile paintings. It was made operating since 1910. Beautiful station and from here the most trains to regional and long distance start. Although, it is not very big but yet well maintained and managed. It is more like a tourist attraction.

What a beautiful station! with a superb and stunning hall with blue Portuguese ceramic tiles. São Bento is Porto's central station, completed in 1916 and it is built on the site of a 16th century Benedictine monastery - from which the name São Bento is derived. Free to visit and enjoy the “ artwork “ and history of the station. These azulejo masterpieces consist of around 20 thousand tiles and depict a range of historic events along with scenes of Portuguese life and the history of transport. They are the work of Jorge Colaço, the most eminent azulejo painter of the day. He spent over 10 years painting the epic scenes. There's a fresh fruit stall near the train platform that sells freshly squeezed orange juice too.

This place has one of the best Azulejo in porto. It was very crowded with tourists and actual travelers who are taking trains. Beautiful train station. At the time of the visit, Azulejo was undergoing repairs so few sides of wall was waiting for repairs. Color was vivid where the repair was done, and other area's Azulejo color was faded. However, all the Azulejo was beautiful piece of art. Really enjoyed it well.

It’s absolutely a beautiful train station with gorgeous blue and white tile paintings depicting historical and folk scenes from the Douro region. Not only did I enjoyed its tile paintings, I liked the bright yellow ceilings as well. The detailed molding highlights the charm of the arch. I also went inside to see the platform. It’s nice too. It was a convent before it became a train station.

Sao Bento Old Station is a captivating blend of history and architectural beauty. Entrance is free of charge. The grandeur of its intricate tilework transports visitors to another era, telling tales of Porto's rich past. The station's majestic ambiance, with its classic facade and historic clock, is a testament to the city's cultural heritage. Navigating through its timeless halls, you're greeted by captivating scenes depicted on the azulejo tiles. A visit to Sao Bento Old Station is not just a transportation hub but a step back in time, offering a glimpse into Porto's storied legacy

It’s a place one shouldn’t miss in Porto. Well, it’s just a train station and you’ll probably passing by. It’s usually busy inside (like most train station including tour groups) but it’s still fascinating. Try to just drop by in a different time of the day. Sometimes one is lucky and you can just enjoy the beauty of the train station.

Place to visit in Porto! Wonderful train station. This is the city's main train station and incoming and outgoing trains are always on time. Tickets are not very expensive. The station hall is worthy of a museum, it is so magnificent, it is well worth a visit. Covered with "azulejos", it traces the history of the conquest of the undefeated city. To visit!!! 💙

Very nice train station with lots of history to tell on the walls. The tiles and drawings are absolutely beautiful. Must visit when you are in Porto. The outside of the station is in construction and you will be able to see the exterior. As soon as you walk in the lobby, you will be stunned by the Art work.

(Translated by Google) Estacao Sao Bento was built in the early 19th century on the remains of the old convent of São Bento de Ave Maria. Its facade is of great beauty and rich in details, but it is its hall, where more than 20,000 tiles are seated, which is the main center of the attention of everyone who arrives there. There, important passages of the country's history are portrayed, such as the triumphal entry of D. João I and his marriage to Dª Filipa da Lencastre in Porto, in 1386, the conquest of Ceuta, 1415 and the Arcos de Valdevez Tournament, 1140. In others, however, we find country scenes and ethnographic aspects such as the procession of N.Sra. dos Remédios in Lamego, the pilgrimage of S. Torcato in Guimarães, a Harvest, the Feira do Gado, a Azenha and the transport of wine in a rabelo boat. From São Bento you can take any of the trains bound for the area of vineyards or to any of the small villages in the region, among which are Guimarães, Braga and Viana do Castelo.

Amazing place to visit, even if you don’t need to take a train, located right in Porto’s historic center which have been declare UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will admire the immense hand painted “azulejos”on the huge walls (around 20.000 tiles!) which are related to different important episodes in Portugal’s history. I really enjoyed my time there, great place for fantastic photos! Totally recommend it.

Absolutely amazing. One of the most beautifull train stations we have ever visited. The thousands of handmade tiles in the waiting hall display historic tales and pieces of Porto History. If you visit the city of Porto you really have to stop by and go inside (it is free). If you do not, you miss a great opportunity to see something stunning. Highly recommend.

The Campanha train station was built in the 19th century in a very nice area. This is considered the central station in Porto. The station's building looks like an elegant mansion, though small in size, the interior is magnificent. It's worth to come here just to take photos.

Even if you are not catching a train, you have to visit when in Porto. Go inside the large hall and take a look at the various historical scenes recreated with beautiful tiles from 1916. Also, the fact that all lines disappear into the tunnel as soon as they exit the station is a pretty unique sight. Not your average train station!

In the underground passage leading to the railway station, there is a gallery of photographs dedicated to the war in Ukraine. It is impossible to remain indifferent. You can view this exhibition for free. In the row you can see people who start to cry. Many of them are Ukrainians who have experienced the horror of the war.

Apparently Portuguese tiles are one of the 12 European treasures. You will definitely find your share of tiles here. It is quite impressive. This is the main train station in Porto and has been operating since 1910 or something. There is a washroom here, but there is a €0.50 charge. Not much choice when you have a 6 year old with a small bladder. They have shops here so you can buy stuff and get change.

São Bento Station is known for its stunning interior covered in azulejo tiles depicting scenes from Portugal's history. Created by artist Jorge Colaço, the tiles took over a decade to complete, and it's beautiful to see during the day or night. São Bento Station is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-see destination for anyone visiting Porto, offering a stunning example of traditional Portuguese tile work and a glimpse into the country's history. We travelled south by train towards Lisbon from this station, and despite the many people here to marvel at the station's beauty, it is a surprisingly small and calm station to travel from, with only a few platforms for the size of its building.

Free to visit and enjoy the “ artwork “ and history of the station. Can get very busy when it’s raining as it gives the many tourist groups somewhere to dry off for a short while. It could do with more seating but I suspect this is to stop people clogging up the limited space.the station is ideal for onward travel to Lisbon and the Alvarez ( 3 hrs and about 5 respectively) cleanliness is on a par with most EU Cities. Staff very helpful behind the counter in ticket office.

Beautiful entrance. It is supposed that Harry potters first story was inspired in this local. Later they decided to look something similar in London and found london kings cross as the main platform for the movie. Entrance here is free and worth to enter. I was actually looking for a toilet to use and you can use it paying 0.50 cents (no cards accepted but there are 2 ATMs). If you plan on taking the duoro train to pinhao and beyond. Be prepared for delays. Can be severe. First train broke down. Second train was 30 m behind schedule by time it reached Marco de canaveses. In the end it was over a hour before reaching pinhao. Factor this onto your planning.

Reminds of the old Stettiner Bahnhof in berlin. Very beautiful. But the highlight was the super nice ticket seller, who pointed us to discounts which we never would have seen.
