The New River Inn/History Fort Lauderdale is an incredible Time Capsule. Looking into the early 1900s is so interesting and cool! This is a fun, educational experience with revelations about our Town that I bet you did not know! With 6 Talented Local Artists on the 3rd Floor, that is the Cherry-on-the-Sundae! Affordable, eclectic Art can be purchased as souvenirs or for fun! Also, fun inexpensive Kid Stuff, in the Lobby for sale. Besides housing the City's 1st Bathtub, this was the Crown Jewel of Fort Lauderdale from 1909 to 1955! This is a mandatory spot to see if your a local and a sweet discovery as a Tourist!

Stopped by rather randomly. Was interesting and had some good history and artifacts. Worth the stop but either plan an hour for a guided tour or less for self guided walk through.

I happened upon the New River Inn Museum of Fort Lauderdale totally by accident on Monday, January 3 2022. I went in to see after I saw the building and the historical sign outside. It is a small quaint museum with self-guided or guided tours. It has some interesting information about history of the arrival of Europeans to the area. It shows history of the Seminoles and other native American tribes of the area prior to the arrival of Europeans. It also gives some history of some of the African-American history of the area including how education was minimized for them for many years because of the need for cheap labor for the farms of the area. It also talks about Fort Lauderdale's contribution to the U.S. war effort during WWII as well as some of the contributions of some individual families efforts to building/changing the Fort Lauderdale area to what it has become today. More interesting is actually the artists-in-residence on the upper floor of the museum. These artists are allowed work space and allowed to sell their works. It was quite interesting and there was some amazing work. Two of the artists were there at the time and were happy to talk about their work and the work of some of the other artists. It was definitely worth seeing because it was honest about how today's Fort Lauderdale came to be.

This was a hidden treasure to stumble upon on our last day in the area. From entering in the main building (the old hotel), Ms. Sandy greeted my son and I with the warmest welcome. We explored the main building solo and met a wonderful artist named Jenna with jennaswearableart. She does amazing work and she was gracious to show us some other artists work that was being showcased. Following our solo explanation, Ms. Carolyn took us to the old school house replica and had my 7yo so engaged in learning about the first school house in Fort Lauderdale and about the first 14 children who attended. She then took us to the 3rd historic location, the King-Cromartie House which was absolutely AMAZING. It truly was like stepping into the early twentieth century. The house and antiques are so well cared for. Her knowledge of the history of Fort Lauderdale is incredible. I am so glad to have spent our last few hours learning about the area. Thank you Ms. Sandy and Carolyn for your wonderful hospitality!

I enjoy history and historical spots ( especially the photos ! Old swing bridge not far away , love old Florida architecture, they need more historical sights . This was nice if your in the area . and I recommend Cole Henrik park east las Olas Blvd. if your in that area too for a little bit of history free beautiful park . Has some small little monuments for literature.or “Fort”“Lauderdale where the indigenous people lived sadly where living there a prime location to live , I can imagine how beautiful it was before military ( they must have been brave out of there element too . . South side of las Olas Blvd . On 13/14th street 7-11 go south until you see the intercostal. You will see the little park. Spent plenty of time there when I lived Victora Park . Not to get off topic of the history Fort Lauderdale location. There is art on the 3rd floor too .

The History - Fort Lauderdale Museum was quaint and historical. We visited during the Smithsonian free museum day, and it was a delightful treat the tour the house and museum. We went on an hour guided tour which was very informative. This also included an eight minute movie on the history of Fort Lauderdale. You can spend the entire day in the area if you are visiting from out of town as there are other museums, the Riverwalk, galleries and shops, and plenty of restaurants.

Nice historical site that includes a local history museum and several moved, preserved, historic buildings. We took a guided tour with a knowledgeable docent; it was inexpensive and worthwhile. The museum has a free parking lot, but it's small. Metered parking is beside the museum. The site is adjacent to the lovely Riverwalk, which I also recommend seeing.

This museum is a must see if you are visiting or live in Florida! We went on the guided tour to be able to see all three buildings. The history and culture was so interesting. We learned so much. It was a wonderful experience. I highly recommend checking it out!

This is a very interesting History of Old South Florida; The exhibits are very old or replicas, and there is the main museum and two other houses. One house is a house of one of the founders of Ft Lauderdale, and the other is a replica of the first schoolhouse of the city.,1898.

Daniel, our tour guide, is very knowledgeable. The film is very knowledgeable. Great history of fort lauderdale. There was another employee that was helpful in parking.

While briefly in Fort Lauderdale, I took a walk along Riverwalk North which follows New River in the heart of Fort Lauderdale. I only had time to peruse the outside. The beautiful setting of the remains of a once military garrison begs for more serious study next time. In any case, the grounds are immaculate and astonishingly remind me of historic grounds in Honolulu, Hawaii.

A place where history lives close to modernity. Be sure to bring the children here for an excursion. Professional guide will tell an interesting story about founding of the city

A pleasant little museum that offers a nice glimpse into Ft. Lauderdale history. I did not know it was such a relatively young city! The first floor, when I went, was a Dia de Los Muertos exhibit. The second had six or so rooms that chronologically go through the history of the Native Americans, the early businessmen and wartime years. The third floor had an artists in residence thing where one of the artists showed you through each of the artists' rooms, all of the art being for sale. Easy to spend a good hour or hour and a half here. They offer tours of more buildings as well, but I did not get there at a time to make one of the tours. I recommend!

Small but nice! Don’t need to spend the whole day. Some artifacts from 14,000 years ago. Seminole’s photos from 100+ years ago.

We used the museum as a wedding venue so I’m writing the review from that perspective, although, I must point out that it’s also an excellent museum with fabulous displays. Kamal and his staff are very hard working and dignified. Kamal is an absolute pleasure to have dealings with. He is friendly, kind and nothing is too much trouble. The venue exceeded our expectations. Our guests were so impressed and so were we. Kamal and other staff members were helping us clear out the next day. I enjoyed meeting Kamal’s colleagues and we will always think of the venue with such fondness, as will many of our guests. I would favour it as a venue for any occasion. So much better than a soulless modern hotel. You have quality and value all in one here.
