The first front 5 rows of this theater should not be in use. I just watched Oppenheimer and being in the second row really really sucked. Everything on screen is physically distorted and my neck hurts now. If you come here, pay for priority entry, that’s the only way whatever movie you see will be watchable. You’re better off seeing a movie in a regular theater as opposed to being in the first couple rows of this one. Awful experience. Edit: hi there. your response didn’t really address my concerns but thanks I guess

Got tickets four tickets to see Avatar 2 for me and my family. Got the priority entrance for all four of us which required us to be there 30 minutes early to allow us to choose our seating before general admission. But when it came time for us to go, they told us that they were delayed, 20 minutes go by and we're still waiting to get into the theater. I asked him again what's going on and they say they have technical difficulties. When we finally get into the theater, there are already 30 people in the theater already seated before we even walked in and we were second in the priority line. How did they get there, I don't know since there was only one entrance visible into the theater and again we were literally the first group walking into the theater. Had to deal with patrons behind us putting their feet on the chair behind our heads, and they had to be told more than once don't do it. Almost had to make an example out of somebody. Did not get a rewarding experience, the only saving grace was the movie was fantastic. But will never come to this theater again. Do not recommend unless the movie is absolutely worth it!!!

Waaa I had to sit too close waaa I couldn't see IMAX good. Since you can't reply to reviews my review of the venue will say what they can't. Guess what when a location offers priority seating you buy it. How ridiculous are you not to plan ahead drive 4 hours and think you're going to get a good seat by not getting in early. I love to hear people whine, (scroll down it's worth it )who arrive 30 minutes before and didn't get a good seat. 30 theaters in the entire world showing 70mm IMAX. Hey I'll just pop by no biggie. Good luck. How do you people travel? To the venue. This isn't your first rodeo the lobby was packed and 90 degrees. Turn up the AC. Go call your number listed here on your listing. Leave yourself a message no one will return as no one did nor anyone reply to an email. Lastly stop being so greedy just because you have 263 seats doesn't mean you sell 263. Selling a front row or front 3 rows to an IMAX film is egregious. The sight line is impossible and you know it. Many concerts dont sell behind the band or at least warn of obstructed view. These seats are worse than that. You should be ashamed of yourself for selling then. If I wasnt smart enough to get priority and I had to sit there, I'd be disputing my credit card because you knew the seats are unwatchable yet sold then and imply by selling them they are watchable.

Watched Oppenheimer yesterday and the experience was good overall. Concession was great, screen was huge and the film had amazing quality. However, my only complaint is the seats. I’m about 6ft and about 2 hours in, I was really startling to get uncomfortable. They do not have a lot of legroom and overall are pretty uncomfortable. I also would recommend to get there at least an hour before the movie starts. The first three rows make watching the movie almost impossible. I also wish that they gave you the option to pick seats before hand like most movie theaters do. But overall, I had a good time and the IMAX experience really is amazing

I went to see Avatar here and the seats and screen were awesome. My main complaint is that they don't have enough people working at the concession stand so there was a long wait to buy snacks and drinks. Other than that their staff did a pretty good job of keeping things orderly. I would definitely recommend this place.

It’s been about 8 years since I had been to an Imax. Incredible experience however could use some updating. Seats themselves seem a bit outdated/outworn. Irregular sound from what we had gathered. Its either really loud or barely understandable. Screen itself is massive and very enjoyable to watch. We watched Venom, strongly recommended.

We had the opportunity to bring my children to watch Frozen 2, the sound and the screen quality was amazing. The price per person was average same as any IMAX theater. The only thing that I didn’t like was that we purchased popcorn and it was not fresh, from the taste and texture I realized immediately that they were made many hours ago.

Loved the comfort of the IMAX theater, comfortable and spacious seating, large screen for decent viewing. Would definitely recommend watching any of the new releases this way. Parking is pretty pricey, $20 for zero to four hour time slot.

Saw Oppenheimer here! The screen (largest in Florida) and sound are certainly impressive. The seats are pretty comfortable! The concession area is pretty outdated and the food wasn't anything special though. I'd recommend solely for the viewing experience, which is what the theater is for anyway!

Phenomenal immersive experience for Oppenheimer on Saturday. I have not been there in years (pandemic/covid). I forgot how powerful the experience truly is. Now, the devil is in the details. So, it’s important that they clean the film , so you do not have hair (hair strand it seems from a human) across the frame. Wear hats like they do at subways and other fast food places, so you do not have hair on your food or frame on the screen. Same goes for bugs. 🐞 Please clean the booth. Thank you.

Surprised to see some of the recent negative reviews. We just saw Oppenheimer in IMAX. We bought priority seating, which I recommend. It is annoying to have to wait in the queue as opposed to getting seats assigned ahead of time. Fortunately, we had no issues with our projection, and the experience was nothing short of incredible. Huge, sharp display and great sound. Nolan would be proud.

Love love love this place the sound and movies are amazing and concessions isn't too bad either. Suggestion if you are going to a popular movie get there early as the line can be long and you could end up too close to the massive screen or purchase the priority tickets to get in first and lock in those great seats

Went to Imax 3D theater to watch a movie. The entrance was supposed to be at 5:35 pm. but was delayed one hour for technical difficulties it wasn't pleasant standing up for one hour and fifteen minutes. I have bought the tickets directly from their website. It would be nice if they would provide chairs for the waiting and emailing for the time change. This Imax 3D theater is inside the Museum of Discovery and Science. There is no parking provided either Imax 3D theater or the Museum. I paid $10 for parking and $52 for 3 movie tickets. It's a good feeling like you go at the "Casino."

Just giving one star is generous, I am not one to write reviews but my experience here was TERRIBLE. You have to pay for parking which was never communicated when you buy your tickets. As soon as I got there we were informed the movie was delayed a whole hour due to power issues which I understood and was beyond their control, I was a bit frustrated though and communicated to the manager we had already paid the time for parking and he very rudely replied “just pay another hour”. When I got back at the time the movie was supposed to start everyone was let into the theatre, me and my friend couldn’t find any seats together and were misled by the website, the website makes it seem like the seats are reservable but they are actually first come first serve, we got stuck front row . Our necks and eyes hurt after the 3 hour movie, overall the employees were not helpful, very rude so don’t waste your money.

The museum has the only "real" IMAX screen in the state of Florida, so I drove 3 and a half hours to see Oppenheimer. The place was packed, but it was dirty. The food options in the neighborhood are few depending on the time of day, so I got stuck eating a $12 premade salad (other options were small sandwiches and wraps also for $12, candy and popcorn for less, but still expensive.) I don't think there is attached parking and I ended up paying $10 to park across the street. And the theatre is first-come-first-served (unless you pay extra for priority seating) so even though I arrived an hour early, I was still one of the last ones seated. This is not a review of the movie or of the museum, but buying an assigned seat could really improve the experience.

Best theater in all of Florida. 3d documentaries all day. Hollywood movies at night. 6 stories tall screen. 114 speakers. New seats are a fab addition. Wish there were more food alternatives like chicken or turkey hot dogs. Beef and chicken chili options would be nice for the nachos. There are cheese and hummus options which are nice.

The theater is amazing, picture and sound quality are incredible. But, the seating is a little awkward, I watched Oppenheimer, and sat on what I thought was a good spot, but found myself looking up for 3 hours, I was about a row up from the middle. Unless they do some remodeling/construction work, all you can do is go as early as possible and try to get those upper seats. The place was really clean and the staff were amazing.

My experience today at the Autonation IMAX Theater was exceptional. IMAX 15/70 is a unique experience that will sadly dwindle in popularity and availability if we don’t support theaters like this one! I got excellent seats in the back row with my priority seating, and the image quality was crisp and perfect. Go see Oppenheimer if you haven’t. I must compliment VP of IMAX & Guest Service Operations Armando Mena and his son who works in the projection booth. They make quite the team! They were very kind and gracious in allowing my brother and I to see the projection booth and the 11-mile long, 600-pound film reel of Oppenheimer. All film enthusiasts in Florida must take a trip to this theater.

Traveled over 4 hours and spent a lot of money to watch my first 70mm film (Oppenheimer). After waiting 3 hours in line which I was ok with to get good seats. I sat down and began to watch only to see artifacting and blurry resolution which I assume had to do with some mess up in projecting the film (also they had to restart the beginning because it was not transmitting audio). While I could still see everything good enough to enjoy the film, I wish I had gone to see a 35mm locally had I knew the movie would turn out like this. I never like to write bad reviews and I would love to change it if something could be done about it. All in all, staff were great and everything about this place was great. Just ruined by a unfortunate issue in projection.

Traveled far to see oppenheimer, but when I got there there was absolutely no seats available and I was forced to sit in the front row. I could barely see the movie and my neck hurt. It was a terrible experience and I wish I gone to my local theater instead. Until they bring online reserved seating I won’t be coming back here. Please do better.

This is part of the Museum of Discovery and Science. This screen is like nothing you have ever experienced before. I love every documentary I have seen. I wish they would play the underwater ocean ones more often. I typically can not see 3d because of my vision, but I can on this screen for the most part. I have not been able to on any other screen for over 30 years.

Manager was a jerk. Refused to let us schedule another time when all that was left was front row and could not see anything. We arrived 30 min early and this still wasn't early enough to get a decent seat. Wouldn't even give us comp tickets for another movie. I've never been treated so rudely by a manager. Wasted gas, parking and money on this place. I will never go there again. If I could give 0 stars I would.

Whenever a movie with 1.43:1 scenes is released, I make the 1 hour drive from Miami to here so I can get the full experience. This theater is always one of the few in the world that has movies in the format directors want the audience to experience. The image and sound is incredible. Highly recommend this place!

Incredible screen, sound and overall experience. I was sitting in the 2nd to last row and the screen still looked massive. Worth the drive for a special movie (especially one with Imax scenes).

Came to watch the movie “Nope” at 5:25. Showed up at 4:55 and the box office isn’t even open, then once we got tickets we weren’t allowed in the theater. They said a documentary was running late and they needed to clean the theater. I’m not sure how that happens in the first place, but even still you know how late it is, why not flex an extra worker over there? 5:30 and we weren’t even in the theater yet. That being said, the theater itself is nice. Update: After watching a movie I updated my review. The theater itself is phenomenal, and I’m sure the weird stuff before wasnt a regular occurrence.

Saw the remastered QUEEN AT MONTREAL concert. It was spectacular! Audio and visuals were as good as it gets. It was almost better than seeing them live. Don't miss it when it comes back. The only critique I have is that the theater seems to operate as part of the museum complex and might benefit from some updating and addition of more amenities in the area of food and drinks that are available later in the evening.

Came here first through the museum and realized I needed to come back again for the IMAX experience! This is one of the biggest IMAX theaters i've been to, and the screen and surround sound is INTENSE. The first time I went, it wasn't crowded at all and we saw the Arctic documentary in 3D, and the second time there was a school field trip and it was packed but it didn't take away from the massive screen and IMAX experience sound at all (Deep Sky, 2D). There's a huge parking garage next to the museum, and a nice little cafe with various food options before entering the theater. It is super dark once you get in but the workers have flashlights and guide you to a row!

Being able to experience a film in IMAX 70mm is breathtaking. Everyone was so nice. And I got a chance to see the technology that makes this all possible, an experience I'll never forget. One of the best days of my life!!

I wish the screen were set a little further back. Get here early to nab a back row seat or you will get whiplash watching a movie. Comfy seats.... snack bar needs better workers.

Technical difficulties for over one hour. Compounded by a lack of customer service skills. All of the above Made more frustrating to have to fight for a tefund!!! All in all, my rating would be very negative. After a phone call, the experience became more frustrating. Let's be clear, All staff had communication devices. I was told all managers were at lunch. The person who called was only interested in telling me the movie was working after 1 5+ hours.

Love this place. Website is a little wonky but the money helps support a nice children’s museum and the screen is amazing. 6 stories tall! Buy the early entry and sit 2/3 way up in the middle and you’ll be amazed. We need to get babysitters and drive minutes and we still keep coming back!

Such a cool little gem in Ft. Lauderdale. I went to watch Avatar and it was so worth it! It's inside the Museum of Discovery and Science. The facilities are very well kept and clean and the staff was very helpful. A really nice way to spend my evening!

Fantastic IMAX auditorium capable of the 15/70 format. Stellar audio. Comfortable seats that will rock a bit, but not those ultra recliners you see popping up in all the theatres nowadays. (That would make a 3 hour Nolan film nicer though, lol.)

  • 5/5 Ari E. 1 year ago on Google
Saw Avatar in 3D. I asked the ticket lady, where's the best place to sit. She said 2nd row from the top, in the middle. We did that, and she was right. I won't review the movie except to say we really liked it despite being 3 hours long and in bad need of a "bio- break."

  • 5/5 Danny P. 7 months ago on Google
Amazing sound. More impressed with that than the visuals. Also. They need to cut that vip entry first and reg admission second thing. Just list the seats like all the other theaters and u pay for the assigned seats. Charge more for the "good seats" problem solved. The getting there an hour before and making lines and running up stairs is just not a good look for such a good viewing experience. I paid extra for early admission but system sucks

Fabulous venue. Saw "Oppenheimer" -- fastest 3 hrs of quality entertainment. Great buttered popcorn! Am disabled w/walker. Staff assured my safety + ushered me to 2nd floor prior to film start. This is the BEST place to enjoy yourself!

Huuuge 60 ft tall screen. Good number of seats. Not much walkway room in the rows though since it follows older style seating space. Good leather seats. Concession stand moves people through quick. General seating always but there is the option for online purchase of priority seating (enter the theater about 15 to 20 minutes before the majority of the general admission crowd is admitted.) Priority seating lines form at almost any time but are admitted 30 minutes before showtime.

Pros: The best theater in South FL & maybe the country? At least in my experience. Watching a Nolan movie in 70mm here IS an experience unlike any other theater. I remember I would come here as a child on field trips and/or with parents and just be blown away by the scope of this screen. And still to this day it gives me that. The way the entire theater is built immerses you in such an incredible way. Cons: Just purely constructive criticism. Wish they’d implement assigned seating like most theaters because the scramble to the seats & having to seat save when your friend has to go to the bathroom is no bueno. I feel they could still do priority seating for the extra price without making the normal admission people scramble for seats. If someone bought a ticket 2 months in advance they should probably get their ideal seats AND not have to sit right in front of a 6 story screen VS the person who just happened to luckily get to the front of the line that day (and/or luckily not have to wait for anyone). Assigned (possibly more cushioned/reclinable) seating would make this the best theater there is. You also have to pay for parking which you can’t say for most movie theaters. But given the experience I’d say its worth it paying for parking. But also given the price of admission & that you do have to pay for parking they should probably upgrade this list of seemingly common cons. Don’t let these cons deter you from experiencing the truly amazing time at the cinema this place is.

AutoNation IMAX is the top spot. The only screen for IMAX 70mm projection in Florida. To be able to experience movies on this giant screen, especially Nolan’s epics on IMAX 70mm film, is truly an experience that I’ll never forget. I saw Tenet twice in 2020 and Oppenheimer twice this year as well. I’m hoping we’ll be lucky enough to see some rereleases of past IMAX 70mm films in the near future, especially after the wild success of this format for Oppenheimer. In any case, a huge thank you to MODS for giving us this experience, and big props to the projectionist Armando as well. Cheers!

It’s been a long time since I came here to watch a movie, and I have to say this is by far the best way to experience a movie over any theater. The screen size and quality is obviously a given but to me the sound is the the most impressive part, I love loud and this is loud and good sound, it may be a bit much for the average person that complains about the tv being on too loud, but if big sound is your thing this is the best you will find. Personally I think most movie theaters don’t turn the volume up loud enough. Best movie theater experience in South Florida.

  • 3/5 Cyrel T. 8 months ago on Google
Saw Oppenheimer here.... unfortunately, the experience was ruined by the seats. These are not nice movie theater seats, not even average movie theater seats. They are auditorium seats with some cushion and pleather. Wouldn't want to sit in them for more than an hour. I'm only in my 30s, and my back was hurting so much I had to leave around 2 hours in.

Was so disgusted at what I seen today. A worker (had a heavy accent sounded Russian)there was yelling at old lady and speaking to her in a rude manner. And had the nerve to make a rude comment that it needs be only white people working at the front desk.

The best theater in the state of Florida and arguably in the country. Real IMAX 70mm projection in a true 15/70 IMAX venue with a 1:43:1 aspect ratio for it's massive 5 1/2 story screen. This is the real deal. Picture quality for a film projected on IMAX 70mm is 18K. The sound is unparalleled. Reasonable pricing and very comfortable seats for a true 15/70 IMAX venue. Their OPPENHEIMER run has been superb with simply brilliant projection and presentation. The AutoNation IMAX Theater is a Florida staple. A gem.

TERRIBLE theater experience! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!! Went to see Oppenheimer. It's a joke that they don't have assigned seating. Signs that say you can't hold a place. Meanwhile everyone does. Then they also have the audacity to charge for priority seating, but only 86 tickets and it's STILL not assigned seating. My wife and I and Her mom all had to sit alone completely away from each other. My poor wife ended up in the 3rd row from the screen and could barely see the movie on the terrible angle. ALSO Oppenheimer had many film issues, scratches, dusts, randomly floating black objects. Tons of flickering. On top of the angle of the projector and screen is already bad. As it leans back a bit, facing upwards, making the front row seats even worse than they have to be. I was 2nd row from the top and the upward angle was already annoying! I suggest you don't go out of your way to this theater, it's totally not worth it. And they don't have the intelligence to handle a crowd and seating arrangements, leaving random one seats all over. (Yes we were near the front of the line to get in. We're only about 20th in) Would have enjoyed this MUCH better from home on our QD-OLED. Or our local theater even, just to be able to sit with our family... To any decision makers or staff, it would cost a Negligible amount of money to buy Letters A-Z rows, and some numbers 0-30 for the seats etc. Make assigned seating you dolts...

As an avid AV Professional and private enthusiast, the picture and sound quality were superb. The seats were a little less comfortable than other modern theaters though, and as someone who can get easily distracted when uncomfortable, this could be an area of improvement.

Went and saw Oppenheimer here, and loved it. I’ve been to many IMAX theaters, but the 70mm IMAX was an even better experience. So much better than I imagined. The theater was awesome, and all the staff was so much better than any other normal theater.
