Gorgeous little castle to stop by if you're on your way there. Unlike most castle in Portugal, this one has a rail!! You can actually climb up while holding on to something!! Still scary but not a complete risk.

Wonderful place! The lady in the information room was very attentive and helpful. Very welcoming, the city offers roasted and hot Portuguese chestnuts in front of the castle. Very attentive, the man who roasted the chestnuts.

We really enjoyed our stay here to celebrate our wedding anniversary just the 2 of us. The hosts tried to make really the best of it with a smile and at a very reasonable price. Thank you so much.

This town is something out of a fairytale. I loved all the touches this castle had from the outside to the inside. It is free to go in and check out, there is a boutique museum to get more information about the castle and surrounding areas. If you go to the interactive tablet you can take a photo and have it emailed to yourself, the area also has old medieval weaponry tools to view close and touch, overall a wonderful experience. Highly recommend!!!

Free to explore. We went in the winter and we had free roam of the castle all to ourselves. Great views of the lovely town and countryside.

A free walk up the medieval castle brings a nice view around the village and it's cathedrals.

One can climb high up inside the castle and look upon Penedono and the surrounding lands. Not for those that are afraid of heights.

Yes, it was closed when we went, but it is still such a cool castle to look at it. We parked very close to the castle and walked around the old town. The siege craft out front also really set the stage. It's definitely worth a few pictures and a stop if you're in the area.

Medieval village & castle that is now a ghost village within the castle walls... tickets for entry (€1.50) from tourist information office next door. The lady will then open the gate for you to go in & explore. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere near...

It is just fantastic / beautiful and very well kept. You can visit the castle inside FREE of Charge. If you visit the towers with kids need to be careful because there are no barriers kids or even adults may fall down If in Penedono it is very reccomended to visit the castle

The castle was temporarily closed, but very nice on the outside still.

This place has had the stone cleaned and looks fabulous. Not for kids to explore the higher areas and only for adults with a head for heights.

Very cool medieval castle open to the public for free. No tickets needed. On nice days it’s likely to be busy. Parking is a challenge. Climb the ramparts and the view is stunning, careful on windy days though.
