Rooted inside a lofty bungalow overlooking the forest, filled with melodic beats, and backlit by twinkling dragonfly projections, Akar Restaurant & Bar entertains an impeccable ambiance for dinner and drinks after dark. I was mesmerized by the forest projections, and captivated by the live viola cover of EDM tracks. Akar is worth a visit just for the extraordinary ambiance. I will admit that I was not as impressed by the food as I was by the vibe. The Young Mulia cocktail, which comes in an upside down cone, was creamy, slightly sweet and tasty. I would also recommend the Cauliflower appetizer, which hosts a variety of unique flavors. The Seabass main had an ugly presentation wrapped in plant leaf, but I was pleasantly surprised with a delicious tomato interior. This local dish is a bit spicy. For dessert, the pistachio parfait was not my favorite while the Chili Chocolate Lava was really good. The rich and somewhat spicy chocolate of this dessert gushes from inside a brownie, and pairs well with the vanilla ice cream and lime whip. All in all, Akar is a must see in Ubud, and I recommend going after dark!

Maybe the best restaurant I've ever been to tbh It was very quiet tonight as it's a Monday but the vibes were incredible. The food amazing, from the complimentary prawn crackers and dips to the wagyu steaks, it was truly an experience. The decor and lighting make for a really cool ambience and the light show in the trees (admittedly from their neighbouring club) makes it a real fun place to eat. Service top notch as well... Very expensive for sure but think you get get what you pay for

My husband and I were completely blown away by the dining experience at Akar. We were escorted from the reception to the restaurant by a buggy. From the ambience, service, to the food, it was simply amazing. We were given choices of knifes for the steak. The staff were there to ensure we were well taken care of. Overall a great dining experience

This establishment is dedicated to maintaining high standards, and the staff, particularly the evening supervisor, put in commendable effort. I shared feedback, including my dissatisfaction with certain dishes, which they promptly removed from the bill—a positive response. One suggestion for improvement is to enhance the atmosphere by using regular lighting in the forest area instead of disco lights. While I understand the use of disco lights on the trees, reserving them for dance performances would create a more appealing ambiance. Overall, it's a delightful venue, perfect for special occasions like weddings or anniversaries. Give it a try!

Absolutely amazing place. There was a live violinist playing. We had the octopus for starters and the texture was really nice. The mushroom side dish was flavorful, didn’t really like the mashed potatoes. Waiters are nice, service was fast.

We had the most amazing night. Service, food, location, ambience all fantastic. Will be buying some sequin material for future dining experiences at home 💖 Thanks to management for the added invite to the Avatar event - what an eye opening experience into another part of Bali 😍 so amazing

This restaurant is far more than good enough. I and my partner were very happy to be there. I got very impressed to see how all the staffs give their best effort in order for customers’ unforgettable dining experience. Especially I want to thank Mr. Surya who was in charge of our table. Thanks to you, we will remember that night for a long time. The quality of tomahawk was exceptional. Really pleased to have dining experience at Akar. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We’ve been there for a diner 13 persons. There were just few people. Music was nice with a DJ. The food was ok, but portion’s size are small. My friend ordered fried camamber cheese and they brought just a half of it. And a risotto with mushrooms which was served in two minutes after placing an order. It was too fast-surprising to prepare the order. It wasn’t tasty and she had a food poisoning for the whole two days. I took a lamb and it was tasty. Cocktails looked good. Prices are high and oriented for tourists.

I am simply delighted with my visit to this restaurant! The dinner here turned out to be a true culinary journey. The delicious dishes amazed my taste buds, each of them a true work of art. I especially want to express my enormous gratitude for the fantastic service. Throughout the evening, I was surrounded by care and attention: the waitstaff were always nearby, yet unobtrusive, anticipating my wishes. I have never encountered such attentiveness to guests anywhere else! Visiting this restaurant left the most pleasant memories. Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates excellent cuisine and exceptional service.

My initial review for this restaurant put the food at 2 star (service and atmosphere were 5 star). They reached out as we are staying at the resort to try again. I was reluctant but we had a chat and they convinced me. I’m extremely critical about food as I cook a lot so I expect fine dining to be better than my cooking. FYI I’m from the uk but African / Arab mixed with my wife from Hong Kong. We love to eat world food. All cultures. Their Indonesian food is fantastic. The best I’ve ever had. Their grilled food is good. What I personally didn’t like was the mains but they are working to improve on it and also expand the menu. The Indonesian food was so unbelievably good that I took the review up to five stars as the chef clearly has the skill so I’m assuming our initial visit was an off day. My verdicts are below and the reasons for before and after. I’ve kept the original feedback for transparency. Starters which led to my initial rating - glass noodles starter - this was nice - grilled octopus - this was just ok. Add the lemon or it’s a bit meh. Starters on my new visit - Chicken Soto with glass noodles. This was by far the best chicken Soto I’ve ever had. You have to try this. It’s very light and full of flavour and depth. I also have this for breakfast so it doesn’t bloat me up. Mains on my first visit Lamb - this wasn’t nice. The lamb felt over cooked. No depth in the flavour. The potato it came with was baked well though. I’ve fed this back and they are working to improve. Wrapped sea bass - this was average. We’ve had this elsewhere so knew what to expect. Mains on my new visit Beef rendang - best I’ve ever had and the beef was extremely tender and full of flavour. Highly recommend. Chicken bututu - this was nice but it’s all about the rendang. This is spicy for those that can’t handle so ask to reduce it. It’s full of flavour and a great local dish. The skin was both soft and crispy at the same time. I know. Can’t explain that! Sides Baby corn - this was really nice Yellow rice - I took one bite and didn’t eat the rest. Really didn’t like this. Rice is my main staple so I was a bit annoyed. Mushrooms - this was good. Sides on new visit Salad and sautéed spinach. I’ve never had a sautéed spinach like this. Usually spinach makes my mouth itch but this one is different. Worth a try. Chicken satay - this was served on lemon grass skewers. Nice idea as it gave a cool citrus flavour to the already tender satay. My wife said it was the best she’s ever had and she’s now full! Cocktails were fantastic. Pictures attached. It’s a fine dining restaurant so expectations are high. For something like this, I would expect and demand consistency. I usually don’t give restaurants second chances as I’m reluctant to have a second bad experience in food but they redeemed themselves over breakfast with amazing chicken Soto, nasi goreng and Mie goreng. The second visit was worth it and I really hope they continue to improve. Again to be clear, service and atmosphere were always 5 star. The only change was moving the food from 2 star to 5 star to reflect the outstanding second meal. Well done to the team for the come back. By the way, go to celebrate a birthday if you want a….treat ;). Just let them know and don’t tell your partner for the surprise.

While exploring the Ubud area, we stumbled upon this charming restaurant. The service and cuisine with high-quality offerings were wonderful. Delightful appetizers & main courses. I loved the Pistachio Parfait for dessert, every dish was a treat. The staff's grooming and service added to the overall wonderful experience. Thank you very much Akar Restaurant & Bar !

The place is very nice and fancy. They have performances during dinner. And the staff was super kind and friendly, specially Arista the Assistant Manager she was extra nice. I would go back again & recommend it 100%
