Nice small park! Definitely worth stopping if you drive nearby! Views at the vast plains from the summit of the mountain are beautiful. I never heard about this park before, just noticed this mountain from the highway on the way to Yellowstone. I decided to take a closer look and wasn't disappointed at all. Hike is not challenging, but as was mentioned before - there is a little shade along the way to the summit. We were hiking at noon so it was pretty hot. Coming thunderstorm had added great views from the summit!

This is a beautiful landmark that makes for a great hike. The hike is strenuous and pretty straight up. There are a couple areas that are narrow and not for the faint of heart. The deck at the top is great and newly made. The hike for a middle age person in pretty good shape is about an hour and a half round trip, unless you are taking your time and doing more sight seeing.

Hiked in October 2019. When standing at the bottom it looks like you'll have to scramble up loose rocks, but the trail actually winds back and forth through varied landscapes, and it's actually a pretty hike with great distance views. I wouldn't want to hike it on a hot day, as there is very little shade. The platform at the top is perfect.

Amazing hike! Just know, you need to either pay online or have $8 exact change to enter.

It was an incredible journey, that cannot adequately be put into words. Climbing the mountain, seeing all of the offerings hanging from the trees along the way, and reflecting on those who have taken the path before me was the most humbling yet empowering experience. It wasnt easy, but it was more than worth it! I will always be grateful that I had this opportunity.

Should be the 9th wonder if the world due to the length of time it's has been utilized as a prayer and ceremony location. This place has more energy of peace and tranquility than any I've been to.

Beautiful! The hike is definitely for experienced climbers as some parts are straight up. Visit the main entrance shop before heading up and learn great facts and history! ❤️

Beautiful park, very well maintained. They have vault toilets, dumpster and potable water. Stayed over Memorial Day weekend and although the park was full, 15 spaces, it was quiet and relaxing.

I really enjoyed Bear Butte State Park. The Summit Trail to the top of Bear Butte was great. I enjoyed the views, interesting wildflowers along the trail and the Native American Prayer cloths. The exhibits in the Education Center were also interesting and informative. Bear Butte Lake was also interesting and scenic.

If you have some time to burn, take a moment to either hike the trails or travel around to find the best photo options.

A sacred site for many, so be respectful. It is a fantastic hike up a very distinct 'butte' [not technically a butte]. Surprisingly empty trail early on a Saturday morning. Great views.

Great little hike. (4 miles, 2 up, and 2 down) Amazing views. This place is sacred to native Americans, and you can feel it when there. Only 1 pit toilet on site. I would recommend this. No dogs allowed on trail!

The scenery was beautiful. A great place to visit with your family.

Not for the faint of heart, trail is right next to the edge and it is a long freakin ways up. But we'll worth it.

Wow, just wow, the significance of this park is truly incredible. The views on the hike are splendid. Suggest late spring early summer for birds and butterflies. Sit still somewhere and just listen. The hike is on an incline the whole time, but doable. A nice little hidden gem.

Had to stop after about a quarter-mile and take a breather. The scenery is amazing even from this elevation. Perfect call morning, around fifty degrees and bit on the humid side, but overall it's going to be an awesome trek.

Absolutely gorgeous! It is a great tent site. No showers but we knew that going in. Bear Butte Hike was phenomenal. Take your time, plan on 2 hours (yes, I said 2 hour up, half hour down) You can make it with lots of water and hiking sticks. You just have to be patient with yourself. It was worth it.

Not dog friendly. It was a long drive to find out we could not hike the trails with our dog.

Hike to the summit can be really brutal in the summer as there is almost no shade, but well worth the trek for the views

This is a nice little camping spot outside Sturgis. There is a small beach by the campground. The vault toilet was clean and stocked. There are 5-6 spots for tents. 24/7 self pay cash only at the entrance.

This is a beautiful place! Lots of visitors! My students and I stopped on our way to Rapid City, SD, and they made it to the top!

Black hills probably gets all the hiking praise, but venture just slightly outwards and get yourself a good 4 mile round trip hike up this sacred trail. It’s stunning wide vistas and well maintained.

👍👍 Great lake to camp and friendly staff. Swimming is nice to beat the heat and fun things to keep kids occupied. Usually guests are good about cleaning up but the staff is quick to get the campsites clean if anyone leaves a huge mess. Alex and Liz are great park rangers and very helpful as well.

👍 This is a "mom & pop" run business. I went as a walk in visitor just for the petrified forest. The way the place is structured so that, you visit the gift shop first and pay for the entry. All the products appropriately relate to the rocks. Then you enter a movie room for an 18 minute movie...but I...
