Excellent service and food. Buffet had ample selections to choose from. Fish, shrimp, country fried steak, chicken and dumplings, lots of vegetables. Staff kept hot food on the bar at all times. Also had shrimp bisque and gumbo that was crazy delicious. Atmosphere was excellent as well. Built in 1913 and still has stained wood slat walls. Decorated for a cozy atmosphere. Good for couples or entire families. Price was very reasonable. Parking was easy as well.

The Gift Horse Restaurant was an adventure all it's own. It's southern style buffet offers some of the best food in the area. It was truly a wonderful experience for the taste buds.

First time at this restaurant. Greeted shortly upon entering and brought to a table. Server asked and determined this was our first time there and explained it was all buffet. We ordered coffee and unfortunately, the creamer for me was chunky. Server did replace both coffee and creamers. My wife found two or three items that she enjoyed from the buffet. I thought food I took was okay though I found the rice undercooked and the fried chicken dry on the surface though a little more moist closer to the bone. I guess for the pricer the buffet - $23.95 - I expected better.

Best southern cooking I have ever had. Bought a cookbook afterwards. It was delicious and the service was phenomenal!

A very tasteful restaurant. The food was quite good and unique. It tends to have an older crowd. I sat next to a couple in there early 20s. They complained about what they were eating so I tried it myself. I'm not sure what it was they were actually complaining about, to me it was quite good. I also saw some people leave because of the price, for witch I was fine with as they were not people I wanted to be in company with. Think of the price like how some beaches charge 5 dollars to enter. It keeps a certain crowed out .

What's not to like about the decor and atmosphere in an old church? If you go for lunch, it is never crowded. I haven't been at night. Our server brought my friend and I as much hot, fried fish as we wanted. The buffet is good. It all looks like it was made from scratch, which is rare these days. Some reviewers have said the food is cold. My best advice is to go it when it's first brought out. It is good Southern cooking and at $18.99 for an all you can eat buffet, is reasonable these days. There are soups, salads, fried chicken, red beans and rice, other entrees, and several types of sides, plus a dessert table. I don't think you can beat that. It is tea, water, and soft drinks only, no adult beverages. Overall, a good ole Southern buffet you will come away with very satisfied. I would recommend trying it.

This place is great! Been dining here for over 40 years, since I was a little kid. Never had less than an awesome meal. The apple cheese is the best! Sad that other reviewers find it necessary to complain about the demographics of other diners, as if that is of any significance. The Gift Horse is a delicious place to eat; a real treat- and the antiquie place next door has a great book selection inside too!

I used to eat here growing up and we always loved it. It is a beautiful building and we loved the Christmas decorations! But wow, the food was not good. The best part was the fried fish and dough balls that they brought out, those were yummy. The buffet was cold and many of the food items tasted legitimately bad. Many items were simply inedible. And it was nearly $30 per person once we paid taxes and tipped! Unfortunately I would not recommend anyone eat here anymore. But there is lots of potential if they can get their food quality back up again!

I ate here probably 10 years ago it was very good back then. Today, it was really really bad. I will try to paint you a picture accurately as I can. Unless I have to go throw up. First, everything on the Buffet was cold. Ever try to eat ice cold fried chicken? It’s the equivalent of eating over cooked cardboard. And yes, I know where your head just went. It serves you right, eating at a buffet? Anyway, as I stated previously it was a good place back in the day. But I digress. When ask at checkout “how was the meal” I was honest and explained that their buffet heaters making a sizzling sound (but heating nothing) nothing was close to being edible. Even the desert was questionable. It’s almost like they weren’t even trying to be a restaurant. Anyway, you should get the point and heed the warning. Thank you!
