We've been going to Castaways for years, and its hands down our favourite places to stay on the island. We love that it is not a huge resort, the location, amenities and staff. It's not the closest to the barge landing but that means it's further from the crowds and noise. It’s location also provides easy access to the northern parts of the island and the eastern beaches. The amenities here are always well maintained and clean, plus the kitchen has everything you need. The beach is only a stone’s throw away from the actual accommodation/glamping and having the store/takeaway right there on the property is incredibly convenient, especially on longer stays. The amazing coffee and hot food they serve up is only second to freshly shucked oysters from Moreton Island Rock Oysters. Every time we stay at Castaways, we enjoy it more than the last. The staff are some of the happiest, friendliest, most welcoming and helpful people you'll meet. Every time we stay at Castaways, we find something new to appreciate and we can’t wait to get back. We can't thank the staff/owner enough for making each stay better than the last. Keep up the great work! Would highly recommend for those who don’t want to pack the whole kitchen sink when they camp but still want to feel like they have been camping.

Just got back from an amazing stay Castaways. It's under new ownership, and they're working hard to make it even better. Very friendly staff, awesome service. The shop and cafe have everything you need at reasonable prices. Food is great. They do have limited power, so we didn't have a toaster or microwave, but we had a big TV and fridge! Grand plans in the pipeline apparently for more facilities? Regardless, will definitely be going back and maybe take my fishing club as they cater for large groups too. Highly recommend 😊👍.

Its a nice place, close to the beach, camping, room accommodation, glamping, no too expensive considering the island, nice staff and atmosphere very useful because of the store and restaurant service. The only complaint is the kitchen close by 3 pm and the store by 4:30, so you need to program your day and get everything you need early. The best is 24 hours dispenser, by 8 dollars a bag of ice or 15 litres of fresh and clean water

Thank goodness Micat no longer own it! And good riddance to their sour attitude. Now we were greeted with a warm welcome from Belinda and her staff all of which were very welcoming. The new owners ( Belinda and Craig) are already hard at work making improvements and presenting a beautiful place to stay and relax. We are camping this trip and had a bit of an emergency where Castaways went above and beyond to help us out which was much appreciated. We frequented the premises often over a week utilising the shop and cafe and the reception was always the same happy, cheerful, and very professional. We had a chance to have a peek at the clamping tents and at the units with a view to book in the future. We can say first hand that all were immaculately clean, with great amenities to match. We look forward to booking the clamping having witnessed them. Congratulations to the new owners who are really making a difference, keep up the good work its certainly shining through.

After a week of rough weather camping on the other side of the island, my wife and I needed an easy night before catching the early Micat home the next day. We drove to Bulwer and asked if there was any accommodation available for one night. The new owners were extremely friendly and although there is usually a 2 night minimum stay, this was waivered for a small extra cost. We were shown through two glamping "tents" which are actually more like bungalows with a canvas roof. Very clean with a queen bed and an open air type shower, which is novel. We jumped at the opportunity to have an easy last night and made the booking. After a nice coffee from the shop we drove back over to eastern beach and packed up our camp-site. On our return we grabbed a burger from the shop and settled into the bungalow. There is a large well equipped communal kitchen area available near the bungalows and although we didn't use it, families were in there cooking and eating. We drove down onto the beach and familiarised ourselves with the track to get to the barge the following day before returning to the bungalow for a hot shower and a good nights sleep. Next morning we had a lovely breakfast at shop. Very reasonably priced meals. The big breakfast was indeed big with two eggs, two hashbrowns, bacon, tomato, and sour dough toast all for 19 bucks! Bought some souvenirs for the family from the well stocked shop and then checked out and headed off. The management and staff are so so friendly, and although they were very busy, took the time to make us feel welcome during our short stay. They are doing the place up as they go and the improvements can be seen as you walk around the complex. Great to see such good operators. Thanks again Castaways and good luck. Cheers!

Great place to stay, and it is so convenient to all the good spots on the island. The shop is awesome with good food and a range of convenient groceries. Oh, and alcohol 😁 just needed a ceiling fan, but hey, you're on an island. Who cares 😁 we had to leave a couple of days early due to sickness, and the staff came out genuinely worried, but we still enjoyed our time.

My partner and I loved coming to Castaways. The gentleman wearing a cap was excellent at helping us find out about Gluten Free options. He also helped me when I accidentally spilled my dipping sauce in the middle of the store. The chef was very nice to my partner when he asked more questions about gluten free options. It is great to come to a place where the workers are friendly and understanding about food intolerances. Thanks guy!!

Castaways Café has truly stepped up since new managers came on board! The food, especially the eggs Benedict for breakfast, is fantastic. The café’s new decor is refreshing, and the singing ice machine adds a fun twist. Plus, the staff is always welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend!
