Such a wonderful asset for Brisbane. A magnificent garden with lots of individual sections. Cactus garden, bonsai garden, African garden to name a few. Personally my favourite is the Japanese garden, a well manicured, magnificent interpretation of a Japanese garden. Plenty of walks to tire out the kids or just take in the scenery.

A great place to visit to see and discover different plant species right near the Mt.Coot-Ha. It is a free activity to do. There are a bit of walking around the Botanic garden. The dome shaped garden was the interesting part of it. The only thing I couldn't see was a smiley faces of the people who work and maintain the garden. But, thanks for the nice hospitality and service.

This is FREE. This could easily take you a day of wandering around all the different garden sections. I really liked it and as you can see I took loads of photos. The food is also great here from the quiche to the veggie breakfast. Relax and enjoy as you wander around and don't forget to appreciate the hard work at the Bonsai area.

Very nice gardens with many well maintained walking paths. Great views of downtown Brisbane. The Bonsai tree exhibit was exceptional with gorgeous specimens going back to the 50's and 60's. The Japanese garden was very nicely done. The war veterans memorial was beautifully designed. Many magnificent trees, plants and greenery. The birds were absolutely beautiful with billiant colors and delightful sounding calls. Even though the parking lot was almost full, the trails were very peaceful and quiet. No entrance fee.

My recent visit to Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens was a serene escape into nature's wonders. Nestled in the heart of Brisbane, this botanical haven boasts breathtaking landscapes and a diverse collection of plant life. From vibrant floral displays to peaceful walking trails, the garden offers a perfect blend of tranquility and botanical fascination. The well-maintained paths guide you through themed gardens, each showcasing unique plant species. The Japanese Garden, in particular, is a tranquil retreat, while the Tropical Display Dome is a lush paradise filled with exotic flora. The carefully curated collections highlight the dedication to conservation and education. The expansive views of Brisbane from the lookout at Mt Coot-tha add an extra layer of charm to the experience. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, photographer, or someone seeking a peaceful retreat, this botanical gem caters to all. The informative signage throughout the gardens enhances the educational aspect, making it an excellent destination for families and school outings. Overall, Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens is a horticultural masterpiece, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking solace in nature's beauty. I always bring any visitors to the Botanic Gardens. It’s huge but there are great lookouts and the team here are super friendly. So many things happen here- weddings, proposals, dates and families just enjoying their day…

I highly recommend to visit this place. There many tracks, different themes, lots of seats and parking around the garden. Very thoughtful of people who can't walk much for whatever reason, they can park at many locations, please call the office for more information or look their map. I admire Japanese garden, but also walking in leafy, cool pathways was quite enjoyable. Don't miss lookout , interesting view to city . There so much to see, Planetarium,Art room,Fern House, Amphitheatre. I would need all day if you like to explore all these. It worth to spend all day there.

Mt.Coot-tha Botanical Gardens are SUPERB! There are SO many different themed gardens covering a huge variety of interesting plants, even a Bonsai House and a Japanese Garden. Water features galore, great picnic spots, easy walking with lots of benches to sit down and simply appreciate nature, and a cafe/restaurant for a casual meal and ice cold beer. One needs a full-day here to truly appreciate the beauty of everything. The walks are very well marked and sign-posted too. PLUS the Planetarium isvery well worth a visit, and take in a show while you're there! Well so definitely be coming back. And again, and again.

This was a really nice treat after walking up the mountain to get lunch. Very well maintained gardens with some very impressive plants. The cactus section was particularly special in my opinion but the whole park is a fun free day out for a family. Lots of cool flora and fauna.

I totally loved the gardens but especially the succulent and fern sections. The plants are spectacular! There are many picnic spots to take advantage of, waterfalls and meandering paths amongst beautiful flowers and plants. There is a children's trail, which includes an xylophone seat. It is a truly beautiful place

Outstanding gardens in the city with excellent variety of plant life and great facilities for visitors. Plenty of parking, clean toilets and a good restaurant too. The grounds are well maintained and very clean. There are playgrounds for kids and nice pond areas for picnic. Highlights for us were the Japanese bonsai garden and the domed tropical hothouse with rare palms, orchids and more. A great day out for families or anyone. Band rotunda often has live big band music on the weekends too.

What a beautiful and an enjoyable time we spent over there. We took the whole family for a walk. The weather was great, not many people around, we have the opportunity to explore many areas, still there were many other places we did not have time to do so. May be next time. Easy walking and easy car park.

Amazing place. Lot of trees and plants from everywhere in the world! Great place to visit with kids. There are playground for kids. Lots of places to have a lovely picnic. Nice cafe with reasonable price. Coffee is so so, but not too bad. I recommend to come early to get parking. If there is no parking left you can find some across the road. Highly recommended to visit!

Never disappoints. Used to come here as a kid and still visit from time to time because it's so beautiful. Very clean and well kept. Even on a busy Saturday I was still able to find a quiet spot with a view for lunch.

Great place to have a day out with the family especially with young kids, there is a park for the kids to play and there are so many places to have a picnic and relax around gorgeous scenery. This really was a nice day walking around the gardens even though it’s winter, in summer I’m sure it would be even better than it is in winter for a picnic and run around with the kids. 😄

You will find this place a total escape, where you can immerse yourself in beautiful surroundings. Getting close to nature is great for the mind, body and spirit. I think anyone would feel better after a visit here. There is so much to see, with the Japanese garden a highlight, the fernery and the bonsai house. There is plenty of shade and places to sit for a break or to take in the serenity. I found out they have free guided tours, which are fantastic if you'd like to hear some of the history of the gardens and how some of the plants and trees function - there are some fascinating insights. The tours go for an hour, but you stay for as long as you have time. There's no way to cover the whole gardens in a one hour tour, so they will take you to various parts and you can wander around the rest yourself, or on another visit, because you'll want to return. The guides are volunteers and we had Denis, who is in his 80s and has been a guide for 20 years - he was amazing! He's very knowledgeable and he made it informative and entertaining. The hour went quickly! I had planned to leave earlier, but it was so enjoyable I stayed for the hour. The cafe was good too, reasonably priced and good variety.

Had a fantastic trip to the Botanic Gardens. We were there just in time for one of the free guided tours. Our volunteer guide Bowen was amazing and gave a very informative and interesting tour of the gardens. We learned a lot and enjoyed our time on the 75 minute tour immensely. The gardens are well maintained and contain many places for picnics or quiet contemplation.

Lovely gardens to walk around for pleasure and gentle exercise. The tropical dome never fails to please the aesthetic eye and the kitchen gardens ideas are a great inspiration for homegrown produce. While the recent wet weather has been a dampener, the chance to stroll amongst the artistry found in the Japanese Gardens far outweighed the fact the bonsai display house was being rennovated. It will be something to look forward to mid-2022!

We visited the Brisbane Botanic Gardens in late July 2022. It is a lovely area with beautiful views and great place to visit - a quiet spot amidst the usual hustle of Brisbane. Paths are wide and smooth and will suit a stroller or wheelchair. There a plenty of seats spread around, and neat picnic areas. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful place to spend time in recreational pursuits. There is an astonishing range of plants that have been curated for pleasure since these gardens were founded from the Central located city gardens in 1978 The planetarium is an aid to astronomical development and educates about the night sky

Beautiful, relaxing days are spent wandering in these incredible gardens. I see and learn so much. Never take it for granted that such gardens are open to the public without an entrance fee. That is NOT the case in other countries such as in Europe. It is a precious gift to have such a treasure in Brisbane, easily reachable by bus.

I had a great experience during my first visit with child on a weekday. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the entrance was clean and welcoming. The park had various types of flowers and gardens, including African Region plants, American region plants, bonsai house, and Japanese garden. Although I couldn't explore the entire park, but I will planning to visit again.

A beautiful garden that is right beside Mt Coot-Tha. It is filled with all sorts of plant life, which is from different areas of the world. I like how they’re all separated into different areas or types of plants - African plants, ferns, cacti, Australian plants, etc. There is also a greenhouse like thing that looks a lot like the gardens in Singapore. There is a great Visitor Information Centre with helpful staff, who help to answer questions and guide you. Overall, the garden is huge and takes quite a while to walk around. The maps can be difficult to use so I would suggest that you bring a lot of water and snacks in case you get lost along the way.

The botanical gardens is such a beautiful area to explore. Walk though themed gardens, such as the aromatic fragrant garden, cactai garden, tranquil rainforest, the Australian native gaden, and many more. There's also a greenhouse. By far, my favourite was the Japanese garden and the bonsai house. A fun game to play is find the oldest bonsai tree. Another fun game is to find the cinnamon tree.

Good variety and well looked-after plants. The succulents double up as a spider zoo though. The maps are few and far in between and a bit of a dog's breakfast. We visited on a Monday morning so not very crowded and managed to take some nice photo shots. As for the cafe ... I had to throw away the spinach roll I've ordered as it was simply impossible to eat, and I was actually hungry.

This place is a huge botanic gardens in Brisbane, especially they have expanded in the last few years. There are lots of places to explore. I have been there on numerous occasions, hence I have taken lots of photos. I love seeing the plants, flowers, trees and stunning views on beautiful days. Lotus flowers bloom in late spring to summer. Jacaranda flowers bloom in spring. You can spot cute turtles in the lake. I recommend to follow the road to the native plants area, you will past another lake (beautiful view). There is also a small waterfall inside the forest.

We have visited the gardens many times before, they are so beautiful and very well maintained. This time we decided to go on the guided tour, we went with a lovely woman called Jan. We learnt so many interesting facts and got to know more about the plants and the history behind certain areas. We had such a nice day and you could tell that even though it was 35 degrees and super hot Jan was so passionate about what she does. My only piece of useful information would be to have a 'donation' area, these are free but I would happily donate some money to maintaining the area. Thank you! :)

I always enjoy a visit to the gardens. There's plenty to experience here so you'll need the day for the visit. Loads of footpaths with hilly walking and plenty of it but there's also lots of flatter walking to do. The walk to the top is worth it for the view. Nice cafe for lunch (although it felt a bit ad-hoc when I last went). Highlights include the Japanese gardens, view of the city, glasshouse dome and generally beautiful gardens. Don't miss the memorial. Watch out for sneaky critters!

Went for a nice walk today with friends and out young kids, all the plants were nice. I especially liked the Bonsai display. Was quite astounded though that there are no parents rooms, not even at the information centre, where they would only let us use an appropriate area with a carer's pass. How can there be no parent's rooms? Unbelievable! 2 stars less because of this.

A stunning collection of flora from numerous countries around the world. Cement pathways meander around the natural contours of the lower slopes of Mt. Coot-tha with some amazing vistas. A spectacular Bonsai collection laid out in a dedicated enclosure, with some specimens going back beyond 1960.

Gorgeous spot for all the plant lovers and botanists. This garden has a wide collection of various indigenous, national and foreign plants. It also has a little pond with ducks. The plants also have brief description about them. There is also a little kitchen garden. The fruits/flowers/veggies are strictly forbidden to pluck. You will be shocked to see humongous spiders casually hanging on their massive cobwebs here and there there is an auditorium as well. Over all, this place is really beautiful with multiple purposes like walking track amd information related plants.

A really lovely garden with so much natural flora all over this place, the variety in what you see here is so overwhelming! in a good way though :) this is also a super huge spot and you could probably briskly walk through this spot for hours on end just to realise that you were going in circles, which I definitely did not. If you ever swing by close to here, make that extra effort to absorb in the beauty of the greenery here

These gardens are one of the best I have seen. We were there for 3 hours but had to rush through. We needed a lot more time to see the whole gardens. It covers a lot of ground and have lots of paths to take. In the Japanese gardens I photographed this lizard. It seemed to enjoy the chips

  • 5/5 David F. 1 year ago on Google
Loved strolling through the gardens from the get go, where we were warmly greeted by staff and set off on a recommended route. The gardens have a series of marked pathways, each of varying length, of which the visitor centre staff will happily recommend to suit your needs or time constraints if you have any. We picked path 1, which they claim is the best bang for your buck (it's all free anyway), and found ourselves meandering off the walks anyway. Such was the way, turning every corner and seeing something else which peaked our curiosity. From the fern house, to Japanese gardens, all the way to the denser exotic rainforests, the Botanic gardens were a great tranquil place to wander and discover something new.

Great day out for the nature lovers. Easily accessible and free. Staff were engaging and friendly. The grounds are immaculate. Next time we will make a full day of it and include the planetarium

A massive botanic gardens in Brisbane. From the moment I stepped foot in the gardens, I was greeted by lovely volunteers who guided me through the different trails around the garden. I loved the beauty and peaceful atmosphere here. The gardens are filled with a wide variety of plants and flowers from around the world, and I was amazed at how well-kept everything was. It's clear that the staff here take great pride in their work and are dedicated to creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for visitors. There are plenty of free parking available. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to anyone looking for a peaceful and rejuvenating experience. Thank you to the staff for creating such a wonderful place! We drove up to the Coot-Tha lookout point after visiting the Botanic Gardens.

Beautiful gardens to explore. So many cool spots to just bask in the sun and chill. The bonsai garden was a standout with some dating back to the 40's! Parking was a bit of a challenge on a Sunday morning but otherwise a great free activity to get into and connect with nature. Enjoy

Large area with well-marked trails and interpretive signage. Wonderful place to spend a few hours. Free entry. Trails include Australian Plants, Bunya Forest, Rainforest and others. Gardens include African, American, Japanese, Bamboo, Sensory, Tropical dome, kitchen, ferns, bonsai display, conifers, etc. There are lakes, streams and waterfalls, and lots of birds vocalizing. Helpful visitor centre staff. Café (not much vegan). July 2023: camelias still blooming in the Temperate garden.

The most beautiful gardens. It was peaceful. There were plants from all over the world. I particularly enjoyed the bonsai section. One bonsai Tree had been started in 1966

It's wonderful to find such a gorgeous place so close to the city. If you're prepared to do some brisk walking you can find many little paths and areas that you may not have seen on previous visits. I'd encourage visitors to take photos, but otherwise leave your phone alone — observe the textures, taste the air, notice the humidity as you venture into the rainforest sections. It is a great place to escape, practice mindfulness, and let go of the FOMO.

The Botanic Gardens are a perfect destination for a not-so-hot day in Brisbane. With its countless little pathways that lead to all kinds of different habitats it's offers nice little adventures for your kids. There are also plenty of big green grass areas that invite for a picnic or a simple get-together in some peaceful environment away from the noise of the otherwise big city.

Excellent place to just walk around, and see the different variety of plants and trees. I only spent an hour here which wasn't enough. But still saw a lot in that hour.

A great nature walking. Lots of birds, plants and lizards to see. Kids had a great time there. You cannot see it all in one day and you need to come back. We also had lunch in the café. A great food, fair price and it was prepared very quick.

What a beautiful location. Ample parking which is free and you can drive from area to area as there are smaller car parks situated in the Gardens. Great place to walk around, bring a picnic, meditate, draw, take photos etc. There's a cafe on site, the Planetarium is next door and Mt Coot-Tha lookout is up the road (you can walk or drive but it is a hike)

A place with great potential, but unfortunately not well looked after i would say. 😕 Although it closes at 6, it's important to note that all attractions inside and parking get closed at 4! After that, you may still park next to the planetarium and use the small gate next to the information centre to enter and to have a walk in the garen.
