Nestled in a residential neighborhood, the munkee bar is a nice neighborhood bar that definitely shows its been there for a while. Recent renovations are evident giving the place a nicer appeal. The bar features indoor drinks and dining, tables (no table service), and outdoor seating as well as a place to smoke and keep your drink. The taps are clean and crisp. The chefs prepare all food behind the bar which is visible, which is nice to see how clean they are. They have a nice sized menu of foods and apps that are always available. They also run about 10 specials per day for food. Staff is always curteous. Parking is available on the street but I can see it being an issue during busier hours. Music volume as at a level you can talk over. The bar has ac and isn't afraid to use it. I've eaten about 15-20 different dishes and would say the food is on par dining establishments between casual and fine.

I mean... if you are looking to never see the food that you ordered, wipe off your own high-top table and watch the "servers" stare as the tickets are printed, not entirely sure what to do with them, then this is definitely the spot for you. Personally having worked in restaurant/bar establishments for 7+ years I can tell you that heading into a Friday night rush with no sous, no actual plan of how to serve the food ordered and no support staff or busers, it's no wonder we walked out. We had already waited an hour, for the food we ordered, before we left. We were told by one server ""...it'll be another 20 minutes..." to which the lone cook said "no, it'll be five more minute & 80% of your food will be ready." Then the one server handed us a bill for EVERYTHING we ordered, as if we were going to pay for the non-existent food, that hadn't even been started. We paid for our drinks and left. It's really a shame because the other people's food smelled amazing but alas we wouldn't know and will not be returning. Atmosphere is nice. Local spot. Good jukebox.

Great atmosphere, Alissa serving the cold drinks with a great smile! and the food hector creates and cooks is like no other! A must try if your in the area!! Carribean chicken lime tacos are a must!

Local pub, iconic in South Amboy. Brunch on Sundays is amazing with a specially creative menu and live music but put your order in asap because the queue can be long and there's only one chef who happens to be the Best Chef 15 miles in each direction. Fidays and Saturday are steady with a heavy income of patrons after 10pm. At this hour its Very fun, great 80s and 90s music always playing with a long list of requested songs from the clients. The sad part is when the pub closes at 2am. Just whatever you do, NEVER feed the fire place on a Tuesday night 📛 . Head Staff are very professional, ambitious, hard working and helpful. Waitresses are the local beauties and they ALL make a hell of a Long Island Iced Tea. I recommend this spot.

After only living in this town for a month and a half and trying out every local bar, I'm proud to say this is my favorite spot to be. Every time I walk in I am greeted by Jay and Hector as though I am family. The drinks are amazing and the bartenders are so freaking sweet. (Stop in on a Monday, Jess is the best!) The food is always fresh and the chef makes the most insane homemade fresh salsa. Live music, good vibes, and the best energy. Every single thing you can hope to get from a local bar. Stop by for a drink and you absolutely won't regret it!

What a lunch I just had. I stopped in with the guys i work with.. . Ice cold beer on tap, the chef cooked everything right there at the bar, it was amazing to watch this guy cook. He belongs in a fancy restaurant.. the food is phenomenal. Beautiful bartender, music blasting, a ton of regulars in there that were super friendly.. we all had a great experience... all that on a thursday afternoon at 12 o clock.... 5 stars isnt enough to rate this place.

Found this place randomly on the way home from JFK. Cozy neighborhood pub with a fireplace. Had the Munckee Sandwich which was recommended to me - delicious! The cook is great.

Was craving a quesadilla so me and the guys decided to come to the famous monkey bar in south amboy, Hector is the man! Great cook, i got a sweet and tangy quesadilla omg so amazing so much food it put me in a food coma, him and Alissa are great! I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good food and good atmosphere! Best food around and super reasonable! You have to try it!!

If you've been looking for a quesadilla that supercedes the run of the mill drivel you find at Wawa or Taco Bell, and you need a quenching drink to accompany the meal, then Munckee Bar & Grill is the place to go! I just downed 5 shots of tequila and these quesadillas still taste great but make sure Hector is your chef!

Great place to visit. The chef, Hector is simply fabulous. Had one of the best quesadillas and tacos. Debbie manages the bar and the tables and is the sweetest person ever that is so welcoming and takes good care of all guest. Must visit place. We truly enjoyed it

I returned to South Amboy where I grew up after a long absence to handle my mother's burial. After scouring the local eateries on line we decided to try Munckees for some comfort food. Hector greeted us and welcomed us to sit at the bar and recommended his specialties. We chose the grilled chicken quesadilla and flounder sandwich and were not disappointed. We had an opportunity to watch Hector single-handedly manage all of the cooking/grilling and greatly enjoyed the opportunity to watch him at his finest. He most certainly turned a difficult journey into a wonderful,, warm experience. The bar staff were friendly and proficient and we were sorry to have to leave. Please jump at the opportunity to dine and be entertained here. I only regret that I will be missing the annual Lobster Fest, but vow to return to this wonderful gem in NJ!

Hector makes amazing food and with a smile. They definitely need a more friendly and attentive service at the bar. If you're not known, be prepared to wait for a drink. They will walk right by you and tend to their regular patrons.

I love everything about the Munckee Bar! The Food is Excellent and Hector is the BEST cook. He cooks everything right in front of you at the bar and he cooks with his heart! Everyone is always so friendly and inviting! Great atmosphere! I tell everyone to go to the Munckee Bar!

I Love this bar and grill. Friendly staff and a fantastic chef! Last week I had lobster and I mean a whole entire lobster! It was outstanding! I am always amazed by the food here. It's so entertaining to watch Hector work the grill! He is very friendly and knows what he is doing. If you are looking for a place to have a good time, have drinks, and really good food I highly recommend this place!

Home town feel. Great friendly staff. I've been visiting for the past few months and have never been disappointed with my meals. The chef is fantastic and creative, and he takes tremendous pride in his creations. The staff hustles like crazy. If you haven't been, check it out. Save me a seat, though. I'll be back.

Excellent food and a great atmosphere! Great music and a fun time! Food was delicious! Shrimp Quesadillas and Hot and Honey Quesadillas the bomb!! Stuffed mushrooms were great!
