An absolutely wonderful day out. I visited for my birthday and the sun was shining — being by the coast I could have been anywhere in the world! I didn’t feel like I was 15 minutes from Edinburgh centre! The whole experience is a delight — from the entrance with friendly and welcoming staff, to the huge Lego model of the yacht, to the overall tour itself. The tour is far more interesting and exciting than I expected. There are state rooms far larger than I would ever have imagined, and the crew facilities (including three bars!) were fascinating to see. I also loved how there were a few fun elements in each room — like the odd corgi scattered here and there, including one with a face mask in the ship’s hospital room. Be sure to head to the tea room to round off your trip with a cream tea looking out to sea! A wonderful day out, I can’t recommend it enough!

Most of you will know the history of this boat. It was one of the late Queen's favourite places to be, but it was decommissioned in 1997. However, it was given straight to the charitable trust that now look after it and so much of it is as the Queen and the Royal Family left it. I'd recommend buying tickets before hand. After the visit you'll get an email that invites you to apply for a 12 month free pass, so the tickets are a bargain and you can visit as many times as you like even if it's only to go to the tea rooms. It takes a few hours to do the tour and it's fascinating. You each get an audio tour handset that's easy to work and you can go at your own pace. It might sound funny, but we felt quite privileged to be able to stroll around such a famous vessel. The only alteration has been the building of a glass walled tea room above the royal quarters. I'd recommend a visit. The quality of the food and service coupled with the view is worth it. From central Edinburgh it's a 15 min taxi or tram ride to the Ocean Terminal shopping mall in Leith which also houses the entrance to the Britannia tour. Even if you're not particularly a royalist, this is a fascinating attraction with real historical significance.

Such a great experience! The self guided tour really gives you the freedom to look closely at the things that are of interest. Access to each deck gives you a peak into the Royal Family. Definitely add this to your Edinburgh visit. You won't be disappointed.

This is definitely my top Edinburgh attraction! We spent more than 2 hours there because... we just couldn't miss the royal afternoon tea with scones! ☕️🍰 It was just delightful! We learned so much about the Royal Family and their modern life on this yacht! Loved the decor and attention to every detail. The engine room was just magnificent! If you haven't got time to do the whole Royal Edinburgh Tour, visit the yacht - it's so worth it! 🛳

We’d highly recommend this attraction. Friendly and helpful staff throughout the tour and tea rooms. Informative audio guide and wonderfully staged rooms to give you an idea as to what the ship looked like during its service. Don’t assume that the tea room prices are expensive…we were a bit hesitant to go in but we were pleasantly surprised. Very reasonable, very good service and lovely food.

Great experience. I would recommend a visit. We even had afternoon tea on the top deck restaurant. To see all the rooms the queen and royal family stayed in.

A visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia is by far and away the best tourist attraction we have experienced anywhere on our travels to date. Many reasons support this claim including the ease of getting to the Yacht by public transport (we went by tram from Princes St - around £7 for 2 of us return. Every one of the staff were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and obviously passionate about being a part of an attraction of historical significance. Access throughout the yacht was almost unprecedented with the walls of many rooms replaced by glass full a full view. The audio guides were easy to use and the narrative was interesting and engaging unlike other guides I have used. On more than one occasion, a very knowledgeable member of the team stopped to talk about little known aspects of life on board and interesting stories. We were able to view a huge amount of the yacht across all decks and didn’t feel pushed to get through in a set time. We broke up the visit with an excellent afternoon tea in tearooms on board, well worth a visit. (Make sure you get to tearooms before 3:30pm). We took around 2.5 hours and felt like we’d got value for money although I could have easily doubled the time as there is so much to see, and there was no pressure to move through too fast. There is a great store at the end with some really great products, and the sales staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend seeing the recent documentary on the Yacht before going as it will add more value to your visit. (https://youtu.be/FE61IeSIHP8?si=Nql8GetHghcYC32h) Visiting the Yacht is a must if going to Edinburgh!

Absolutely fantastic. Ship is a work of art from the queens quarters and medical facilities to the crew quarters and engine room. Fascinating how the ship is divided up between crew, offices and guests. Great stories, guests and artifacts. We did notice it had a lot of bars on the boat. Staff and the audio tour were great. Unfortunately the Tea Room we were looking forward to experiencing, was not open. A little out of the way, but we’ll worth the effort to get there.

What an experience this really is. We visited The Royal Yacht Britannia, and the whole tour was helped enormously with listening phone like pads that gave audio descriptions through every area. Learn about the building of the ship,it's historical journeys and the staff too. Most areas are accessible, from engine room to officers mess, even the Royal quarters !. You will have the opportunity to have High Tea or lunch on board too. If you go to Edinburgh or Leith, this is a well worth journey steeped in heritage. Would recommend to those especially interested in nautical & royal history.

My favorite attraction in Edinburgh, The Royal Yacht Britannia is a piece of art and history floating, it’s magical to see how beautiful it is. The audio guide is a must, so much details are delivered on several languages, and brings very interesting information. The staff also can tell you nice curiosities things and show you more in detail every corner of the Yacht, very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this attraction specially for kids, they will love it.

This is another tourist attraction that lives up to the hype online. This was a lot of fun and fascinating. It was so great that I brought my brother-in-law and husband back for a second time. Definitely a must see when you’re in Edinburgh.

We visited Britannia when the weather was very rainy and we could not stay outside for a long time. It was the best decision to make. Everybody was so kind and helpful during our visit and the Yacht is amazing. Every part of it is in an amazing shape. It was so nice to see how the royal family organized their daily life on the yacht. Audio guide was very helpful!

A worthy exercise to save this historic yacht. It has been well looked after and presented by the trust charged with its keeping. Well worth anyone s time and money to experience such a unique venue. Excellent commentary from the hand held phone devices. All the staff are immaculately dressed and friendly and are a credit to the trust and the distinct heritage of the vessel. I can also highly recommend the tea room which has excellent views and high quality sandwiches, cakes, scones and teas, the latter of which we had to buy at the well stocked tourist shop. All-in all very impressive

An important piece of history and an intimate look inside the life of the royals. I would have liked to have seen more of the state rooms but I suppose they do what they c an with what they have. You can tell that the upkeep is daunting. The gift shop was one of the best I’ve visited.

An excellent day out in Edinburgh, easily accessible by any bus with the destination 'Ocean Terminal', and soon also by tram. The entrance is on the second floor of the shopping centre, and after a small exhibition you follow a well marked route starting at the top deck and working downwards. The audio aid is excellent and gives you just the right amount of information in 26 marked locations. I would allow two hours to go round; there is a tea room on the top deck, or a Costa Coffee in the shopping centre. The tea room is pretty good and worth a scone! The ship itself is outstanding!

A historic experience, with very good self-guided tours. The place is very well preserved and you're free to walk around in most places. There is also a lovely cafe on the top where you can enjoy some very nice tea, cake, etc.

What a amazing time myself my mum and dad on the royal britannia. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly there. They were also extremely knowledgeable about the ship . Here is a few pictures for you to enjoy of the place. A lovely cafe with views of the harbour on top of the ship. If you can grab yourself a window seat. A perfect way to spend a day learning things about the ship and the famous people on it. Also around the area there is free parking at the shopping center. Also if you go you get the ticket valid for a year so you can keep going back as much as you want for the whole year. A highly recommended day out for anyone who is interested:).

Beautifully kept ship. It was interesting to see the accommodations the royal family lived in while traveling. I loved the decor and history behind all the ships that have been used by the royal family. Nice history piece. The restaurant was wonderful as well. Great selection of food and drink.

Very enjoyable couple of hours. Lots of info (as you would expect!) Of the history of Royal Yachts and all the history of the Britannia. Some lovely family photos of the Royal Family and some great insight as to life on the boat as a 'Yottie' The audio tour is a free addition and worth using.

We had a lovely day out at The Royal Yacht Britannia, wee birthday present. Staff lovely, very knowledgeable and helpful. Fantastic and very interesting tour, lots to see and hear on the handset they provide. We enjoyed out potato and leek soup, sandwiches and potato wedges with mayonnaise. We also had a lovely pot of tea and finished off with a gin. Defo worth a visit.

This was one of my favorite parts of our visit to Edinburgh! I loved touring and learning all the history while viewing the yacht. Added bonus was tea! We didn't get tickets ahead of time but it wasn't needed at the time we visited.

Very enjoyable afternoon exploring the Royal Yacht. Spent over 2 1/2 hours on board and enjoyed a delicious lunch and wine in the tea rooms. Well worth a visit. Staff were very friendly and warm to visitors. We actually walked from city centre to Ocean Terminal. Took about 50 minutes. Great food options in the adjoining shopping centre. £18 per person.

We had such an amazing visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia! My partner and I were in Edinburgh for 3 days during our UK tour in December, and initially decided to omit coming through to the Royal Yacht due to time constraints. But on our last day, we made the last minute decision to squeeze it in and I am SO happy we did! It was a nice break from the crowds in centre Edinburgh, and quiet enough where you could actually appreciate the different areas of the ship and not feel rushed due to hoards of people. It is a wonderful piece of history, and you can't help but feel honoured being able to experience it in person. The staff were also so friendly! The whole trip, paired with the tram ride (which is very easy to use), makes for a wonderful day out! Probably my favourite excursion of our trip, that we almost didn't do!

Absolutely wonderful. My friend and myself had lunch 'on board'. It was an amazing experience especially as my friends is gluten intolerant. We need not have worried. The best gluten free menu we saw in all the time we spent in Edinburgh. Gayle, I think the lady's name was, was so so helpful....we loved it. Staff amazing. We also met the greeter at the entry to Britannia on our way out and she too was quite amazing. She thanked us for coming and then she wrote a list of restaurants which served gluten free food! How lovely is that? All in all the most amazing day. Thankyou to every single member of staff. A memory forever.

Really worth a visit. The ticket includes an audio guide in different languages. Plan a couple of hours and I strongly recommend having a cup of tea and something sweet in the restaurant.

Highly recommended this royal yacht britannia tour. Self guided with audio device or from our phone. Total tour time was around 2 hours and allocated 45 minutes for afternoon tea at Royal Deck Tearoom is a must. Self audio guide worked so well. It explained every room thoroughly. We were so amazed with the only double bed in the yacht and living room of Royal family. Close to the end of the tour then only we realised there was a quiz about counting how many corgis hiding in the Britannia. If we knew earlier, then we would put more effort into counting rather than guessing the number blindly when filling in the competition form in the gift shop.

Lovely royal Yatch brought for public access with a self guided tour. Audio guides are available in multiple languages with detailed descriptions that wins the heart of tourists. The royal tea room has good eatery and beverage options. If you are a chocolate lover, their chocolate pastry when warmed is must try. The view at the deck is amazing too 😄

We had a fascinating and humbling few hours aboard one of the finest boats in the world. The tour was well laid out with an audio guide on your mobile phone and unrestricted use of your camera. A sandwich and a scone at the tea room is a must and the keen eyed visitor will notice the time on every single clock on the yacht ;-)

Had a brilliant visit. The staff were really friendly, especially the lady at the start before the tickets. Nice exhibition to lead you in before entering the boat. Audio guide was included (lots of places charge this extra on top of the ticket). It was nice to walk around at your own place whilst also being able to get the information you needed. Went for lunch on the deck as well and it was lovely.

Not a lot to add of but I was impressed by the history of this yacht. This boat which travel around the world with the most important people of the world sometimes (no, I’m not speaking of the royal family). The place it’s beautiful and offer you a full view of the different department of the yacht.

A fantastic place to visit to learn about the ship that has sailed the Royals (mainly Queen Elizabeth ll) around the world. Great tour which is provided by either a handheld audio device or your mobile phone. Our 9 year old liked the fact there was a junior option of the audio tour which made it more interesting for her age. There is also a tea room on board which is worth going to. Great history which is definitely recommended to anyone visiting.

Beautiful ship which is maintained so well still. Interestingly it is still the last royal yacht till date. No dedicated yacht has yet been made available to the royal family.

Amazing experience. Staff just fabulous and helpful. We had mobility walkers, and they could not be more helpful. Had tea and cake, which was lush. There are lots of seating places, too. We spent nearly 3 hrs on Ship at a very leisurely pace.

I have nothing but praise for the royal attractions and this one maintains the trend. The complimentary audio guide is packed with information and stories which is sure to delight both casual tourists and hardcore fans of “The Crown” alike. Taking tea on the Royal Deck was also a delight and somehow we all noticed that two of the service staff resembled Camilla and Anne respectively. Would 100% recommend the trip out to Leith to take in this wonderful attraction. Do allow at least 3-4 hours and look past the nasty mall in which the entrance is situated.

  • 5/5 CM 6 months ago on Google
We were pleasantly surprised by the entire experience. Be aware that the main experience is inside the yacht, but you have to cross the floors around the ship, so a dry day is recommended for the visit. Highly recommended 😉

  • 5/5 Zoe Chambers (. 1 year ago on Google
We had an amazing visit on board, it’s well thought out and the commentary was so informative. We also had a scone and drink in the tea room, a bit pricey, but great. It was very busy as Easter weekend, but we were lucky to get seated. Entrance and exit to the tea room needs better signage the amount of people going the wrong way and being told to use the other door was in the majority. A simple exit sign pointing to the right as you come into the tea room would likely solve this.

If you like boats/yachts, 20th century history, the royal family, or just want to see the "floating palace" then this is the perfect attraction for you. The headset you get is in many languages and you set the pace of the tour. If you explore, view and listen to everything, the tour will take you 2+ hours.

  • 5/5 Mibbie P. 1 year ago on Google
This was a beautiful visit of the royal yacht! They have a great layout for touring and everything is perfectly preserved. They have a great audio tour and it is also suitable for small children and stroller friendly. They are very accommodating and even have a little game for the kids to play while they are on the tour. I definitely recommend visiting! It’s also located in a mall so easy to fine! There is also a tea located on the boat if you want to have high tea!
