One of the oldest structures in South Perth, built in 1835 & operational until 1859. Used for grinding flour. Well worth a look around, it's now operated by the National Trust who do guided tours for a small fee. Open only at certain times

Worth a visit to appreciate the history and thanks to South Council to protect the history. A very small set up. 30 minutes is sufficient for viewing. Free entrance. Donation is appreciated. We took bus 35 from Perth bus station. The bus stop is only a very short 50 meters away from the Oil Mill entrance. Please click LIKE for support. TQ.

This was a great experience! I really enjoyed reading all the signs and finding out interesting titbits of history from the area. There is some great information to be learned! 💡 It is a pretty interactive place as you can go in and up the first floor of the windmill and also into the cottage. The signs are very easy to read and are informative. The objects dotted around are also labelled which is helpful! 🏷 Entry is free but donations 💰 are an option which is easy. Lovely friendly volunteers and well kept area. There are benches, a water fountain and toilet 🚻 facilities. It was very enjoyable to learn about the history of the area :)

Visited on a Saturday afternoon, during the school holidays, I was the only person there, except for the 2 lovely ladies who are volunteers are happy to provide info about the history of the place. Very peaceful and a step back in time. Great to see some history preserved. Entry was free, you can access the mill on the ground and first floors.

An interesting piece of history to look at off Mill Point Road. Will Shenton, as far back as 1835, built a mill to mill flour for bread making. It was not profitable and eventually rented out to “Satan” Browne, who started a Hotel/Bar. This also proved to be a disaster and the property ran into disrepair and had to be restored by the State Government and then the National Trust. It is now classified as a heritage site.

Very well maintained historical marker. The grounds were in immaculate condition and very clean. The old mill itself whilst being old was in pretty good nick. Good to see how historic the area is and gives you a good impression of how people used to live.

The Old Mill has been a local landmark for almost 200 years, and well recognized since my childhood. I've been living overseas for decades, and it's great to visit back and see how this historic landmark has been so well preserved and managed. I really enjoyed dropping in and seeing the displays and sharing the history with my best friend. It's a comfort to see this site and recall childhood memories.

I love historical places and this Old Mill amazed me. I stand in awe how the aesthetic beauty of this structure was preserved making it one of the most significant landmark in South Perth. History has it that, this Old Mill was built in 1835 and produced 680kg of flour until it ceased production in 1859. The mill has then been used as a residence, a hotel, a wine saloon, and a poultry farm. After its repair and upgrade in 1992, it was vested in the National Trust. It's a shame we didn't get to see the interior beauty because it closed at 4:00 pm. Truly an awesome place!

Took the kids to have a look inside after driving past so often, the friendly guide gave us a clipboard with pictures of objects to spot around the Old Mill and Homestead, a great way to get my 3yr old to focus a bit! He loved going up and down the stairs of the mill (very steep so watch your footing) and was just a bit disappointed that we couldn't 'turn it on' but we left with a colouring sheet and stamp on the hand, and followed up with a YouTube video at home on a working windmill (Milkshake Monkeys Amazing Adventures) and making banana bread. The guide mentioned they have more kids and family centred activities on school holidays so will have to come back! A surprisingly engaging fun and educational outing.

The Old Mill is an extra-ordinary icon of Perth. It brings back a lot of memory. The settings in the garden and surrounding buildings have been changing gradually over the years, but the mill itself is maintained in very good looking conditions.

Interesting and very informative place, telling so much about Perth's early history and presented in a very attractive manner. Worth having a look over the road at the re-developed Millers Pond area too. It is do nice to see places like this being preserved for our future generations to enjoy and learn from.

Not the same as 'The Old Mill Theatre' at Mends Street, which some people visit instead. This location also hosts its own great events in the building next to the windmill (including weekly open-mic standup comedy), and has various historical tours.

Unfortunately the day we came here, it was closed. So, cannot be as near as i could. Maybe next time. No picture for this. But at first i thought it is a very big building as in the Netherland. This one rather smaller but still beautiful (looking from far outside the locked fence/gate. No picture... sorry)

One of the most underpromoted tourist destinations in Perth is the Old Mill, which is one of the oldest colonial structures in Perth. The old mill was used to grind flour for the colonialists and once fronts a bay that has since been reclaimed for the expanding Perth population. The shed is filled with olden furniture from the colonial era and has been restored. Entry is by donation, of which the amount is up to you to give.
