Had an amazing time here this afternoon! It has a wide range of former WAGR locomotives and carriages as well as a miniature model train display. Highly recommend this place!

This is a hidden gem in the middle of Perth, not too far from the city either. The fees are minimal and the service provided is exceptional. You can explore the open carriages and there is a lot of information provided for each type of train.

A lot of useful and interesting information. Great knowledge of history of railway. The staff was so amazingly friendly. They offer celebrating birthday for kids here as well. Lucky us that we had a chance to visit this friendly museum.

Fantastic opportunity to see some great history some amazing woodwork and some mind blowing steam locomotives. This is a place that you must see even if you are not interested in trains there is some amazing history and many other things to see and many aspects of the steam era that shows the amazing hand skills of people from previous generations. Much better than people who cash in on pressing a button and letting a robot a half arsed job. These were truly skilful and talented people. So if you can support the museum as they need space and more line to carry out restorations on some truly important amazing western Australian history

Amazing place, leaned lot of things about Railways, so many railway on display, kids will love it, it's worth visiting, opening hours are bit odd, but the place is so beautiful, kids can easily spend 2hours exploring different types of trains, it has a little kids play area, and has bbq facility as well. Must visit.

Great place to take the kids for an afternoon. EFTPOS available for entry and drinks at the entry, but make sure to bring cash if you want to purchase ice-cream and drinks at the model train museum independently run and located at the back of the train museum complex. The kids had a great time checking out the different retired trains, there's so much to look at! Would definitely recommend taking the kids there one Wednesday or Sunday afternoon. Nice relaxing, informative and fun day, thank you

Amazing museum - worth the visit. A group of us visited the museum on Sunday afternoon and had a great time exploring. The signs were informative and it was fun being able to board different trains and see how they've been restored. Lots of information, trains to check out and the admission fees are very reasonable. I'd recommend allowing 1/1.5 hours to explore.

Absolutely brilliant, highly recommend a visit there, the fellas there know all there is to know about their museum and what's in it, my 9-year-old daughter is more into muscle cars and horsepower but she had a wonderful time there and thought it was excellent and fun.... and its WAY underpriced.

Trains locomotives and carriages old and even older live and are shown here. A good collection, they even had one of the diesel engines running whilst we were there. There is also some train memorabilia and an model railway for those interested. It's always good to keep history alive for future generations. Definitely one of the better museums in Perth. $10 per adult is a fair price for what is offered.

Visitors from Malaysia here! Not that hard to get here. And you can just park along the roadside. We came on Wednesday, final week of Dec last year. Kids highly unlikely get bored here because there’s A LOT to explore. We can go inside most of the train too. Most importantly, I get to show the kids the real choo choo train here haha. I’m amazed how well maintained this place is. Kudos to the volunteers for their efforts and dedication.

This is a GREAT little gem, I would say as good as if not better than the one in York (UK) . Very rustic and they allow the kids to get into the cabs of most of the engines, well worth the visit.

Well worth a visit if your in Northam. A vast collection from the past, arranged and curated with rare personalised service to imform from the staff who attended to myself and some of my family on the day we visited. And as Northam was home to my Father his brother, sisters and my Grandies when first emigrating to Australia in the early 50's, there was a personal connection in some of the exhibits. Tryly a memorable experience for me. Thanks to all who have contributed in the past and on going into the future, to save this fascinating historical place.

The Museum has friendly staff and volunteers with a large collection of heritage trains and cabins, great for children. Some of the restoration such as the dining car is superb. It is well worth the time to chat with those who have performed the restoration and privy to a few stories about the engines. Unfortunate to see our heritage gracefully rusting away.

I had no idea West Australia's railway Heritage was so interesting with so many fantastic engines carriages and historical items to view this museum is a gem! It's such a shame there isn't a railway station right in front of it so it's more easily accessible... I took my father and son it was a massive hit with them both! You can see how passionate the volunteers here are, and they were so welcoming and willing to answer questions. It was mind blowing to see the inner workings, engineering and mechanisms.. how these trains were built and run is just incredible to ponder! I haven't taken so many photos at a public museum EVER!

An interesting, fun place for kids and adults. Plenty of trains and train related items to see. You're allowed on most of the carriages and locomotives, and there's information plaques that provide in depth information for many of the exhibits. There's also a very large model railway exhibit at the back of the museum. Any queries are readily answered by one of the many volunteers

Lots of interesting old locos and carriages, you can go inside quite a few for a closer look. It is free to get in. Also check out the model railway display, lots of Thomas the tank engine and friends running around the layout

My son and I spent a couple of hours looking at the extensive collection of steam trains and diesel trains they have on display and you can actually walk through the carriages and engines which is just awesome to see how far rail has come and to get a better understanding of how trains and rail transport has evolved over the decades. The museum also has a model train exhibition you can see running and the people who volunteer their time are friendly and knowledgeable about all things train related. A thoroughly enjoyable day with plenty to see for anyone interested in trains.
