nice sanctuary for our penguin friends. one can take the sand bar over to the island but is advise against doing so due to unpredictable nature of the wave and water flow. once you reach the island, you will be greeted by monitor lizards and lots of birds who fly around freely... first time i ever see so many birds up close . lots to explore on the island, spending half a day or more will be barely sufficient

Absolutely amazing place to take the family! Buy your tickets online or at the Visitor centre... staff are friendly and professional. The boat ride over to Penguin island is short and pleasant. Easy access for the pram was a bonus! The island is well maintained and the discovery centre was small but great.. the Penguins looked well cared for and happy. Excellent picnic area with plenty of shade and tables with chairs. You can also swim in the ocean off Penguin island! Bathrooms are also available on the island. Will be back before it closes in June this year (2023).

A bit crowded on the easter sunday morning, the penguin island is a perfect place for a day out though, its less famous than the world class rottnest island near fremantle, however it has his good side, 45mins ride from perth CBD, plus a 10mins ferry, will gt u to the small island. The park was well maintained with clean facilities, personal lockers, toilets with flushing water, an easy short walk trials around the island. Be sure to check out their penguin show, u can spot few thouands of seagulls everywhere. The trail is suitable for every fitness levels, from toddlers to seniors, bring your own food and drink grab a seat at the beach under the trees, be sure to add trash bags to your luggage, since their eco friendly concept means no bins on the whole island.

Pleasant ferry ride over. Penguin Feeding Show very good. Island very nice for a few hours trip and walking around. Bring your own food as nothing to buy on the Island. Bring bathers if you want a swim.

Great day trip option for the Perth area. We have done it a few times and it's always good. Parking is readily available. Remember to take everything you need with as there is only water and restroom facilities on the island. It's a good idea to familiarise yourself with the information sheet before you get there.

Amazing place. Shame the sanctuary is being demolished in the next 2 weeks 😔 you won't see any penguins but still an amazing place to visit

Lovely island. Very small which is fine but I think one hour free time on the island is plenty or maybe a little longer if you want to have a picnic. I already knew it was small so had planned my time accordingly. Staff are dry knowledgeable. I did the cruise around seal island which was very informative. we also spotted some dolphins on the way which was a real treat since it wasn't included in the cruise.

We came up on the day and managed to get tickets for the cruise on the day. I checked online for the times but it was different on the day, possibly because it was late in the season. We were on the ferry which immediately went for the cruise and then returned to penguin island for the feeding. The cruise was amazing. I quite enjoyed the boat ride to the different islands around Shoalwater marine park. There was plenty of bird life around in the water as well as on the islands. I thought it was quite interesting that the islands were once part of the mainland and that they are the remnants of fossilised tree roots.. Even more interesting is that they all could connect to each other through secret tunnels under the water. We also saw a couple of seals on seal island as well as dolphins with a calf. After the cruise, we headed to the discovery center to watch the penguin feeding. The center isn't very big but did have 2 viewing areas around the pool. It was nice to learn a bit about the penguins as you watch them gulp down fish. We then hiked around the island, which isn't very big. It probably took around 30 minutes to get to the Northern lookout on the boardwalk. We managed to see a seal on the beach as well as many nesting birds. The tide was in so we couldn't walk down to the Western beach to the other lookout closer to the pier. It took about an hour to head to the two observation points and walk around the entire island. There are toilets here but no other shops. There are also a few beaches but it did sound like it wasn't really there for swimming to preserve the area for the wildlife. It was a nice, fairly short adventure in Rockingham.

Serene place to visit. The penguin sanctuary houses penguins who have recovered from injury. The penguins enjoy splashing around in their pool, and are a pleasure to watch. The cruise around the island is worthwhile.

I love the rustic, natural presence of the island. The staff and volunteers truly love the improtant lessons and work they do and it's infectious. The staff on the island are and amazing, friendly lot who just light up when you want to learn.

Truly the best experience i've had in a while. It is such a beautiful place with so much to do and see. The Beach is nice and yellow, there are lots of Pelicans and a few Penguins. When I went there, I even got to see a dolphin. Soo cute. Nice and cheap to get too. To everyone reading this, I highly recommend go here for a day trip!

Good place to take the family, a good day trip. Water was great and had some lunch on the beach with a few feather friends.

Came here a few years ago. This little island is only 5 minutes by ferry (it's so close that some people walk across the sandbar although that is potentially dangerous). There is a small beach suitable for swimming, a picnic area, a tiny "penguin discovery centre" where penguins are cared for and put on show, a basic toilet, and a boardwalk around the island. Nothing else. Bring your own food, water and sunscreen, there is no shop or running water on the island. There is a shop at the ferry terminal on the mainland though for any last-minute pickups. The real joy of this island is going around the boardwalk and looking at Perth from a different point of view, and also being able to see seagull nests aplenty. I highly recommend coming to Penguin Island as it's so quick and easy to do, and quite a relaxing place. Note that the boardwalk is not suitable for wheelchairs or people with lower body mobility problems; if that's you, you won't be able to go very far here. To recap: There's not a lot to do here, but it's very relaxing indeed. And so close to Perth!

Such a beautiful island. Wonderful talk in the exploration centre. Thank you. Very sad to hear about the plight of the little penguins whose population has plummeted in recent years. It closes soon with an unknown future for the island, the penguins and the staff. Wishing you all the best.

Very beautiful Island, worth to visit. I love this place, I can go to Penguin Island many times, just it's available during summer time. I can't wait to go there again.
