2/12/23 My friends and I (2 couples) arrived at the pub 8.30pm, to enjoy a night out together.over the time, we ordered 4 beers and 5 cocktails. My husband began to feel tired and just do nothing close his eye, the rest of us were still enjoying ourselves. We were shocked when the manager approached us and insisted we leave the premises, claiming that my husband was intoxicated. We were taken aback by this sudden events, as we still had drinks on our table and were not causing any disturbance or engaging in any inappropriate behaviour.being forced to leave in such a manner was not only embarrassing but also left us humiliated especially since the entire pub seemed to be watching. We have always respected policies and rules of establishment we visit and we were under the impression that we were within the accepted limits of alcohol consumption. It is disheartening to have our enjoyable evening abruptly cut short without any clear explanation or warning.

We had a good night then it seems like the staff needed to get some customers out in order to let more in. So since we were here since a while (dancing and having some drinks) we were invited to go out. Really insulting and disappointing.

No stars for this place. I was kick out, just because one waitress was in a bad mood. I wanted to order my first drink in a whole night. I will complain to management and go further on. Her behaviour was beyond normal to customers. She was kicking people out for nothing. Shame Shane.

This place hosted our social Halloween Party again, and they didn't disappoint! They decorated, they dressed up and they cooperated with us throughout the night. The staff were absolutely amazing and deserve a medal for their hard work!!

Held my 60th birthday there last week. 100 people. Everyone was so lovely and helpful. Beth and Ian, amazing. Beth even helped bring stuff back to my car afterwards. An unforgettable night - thanks Universal; you were so easy to deal with and everyone had a great time.

I was out with my wife for date night and we were walking around Northbridge looking for somewhere to eat. We noticed it was Pizza special night at Universal and they had live music happening as well. The singer/guitarist who was playing was very talented and it attracted us through the door. We ended up having a few drinks and a couple of pizzas. We really enjoyed our date night time and was by far the highlight of our night. No doubt we will be back again soon.

A girl named Ashley she was pretty rude with us. When we asked her to take photos of us, she was showing attitude, and did n’t take photo. Definitely lacked of customer service training. Won’t recommend any of my mates to go this bar. Brodie was pretty cool guy, he seems good . Pretty disappointed !!!!!!!!!! 0/5 customer service!!!!!!!!

Charged me $38 for one corona and one shot of fireball... didn't realise until I saw my bank account the next day.. rip off! Apart from that music was great, still a massive pick up joint though... alright if you like that..

Lovely venue, great music, this issue is with security and unfortunately it’s gone on too long to overlook. Me and 3 friends decided to go here 2 of us working at a venue across the road and because one of them dragged me in and I tripped on their barriers I was decided too drunk to enter. I tried to simply justify my case with an understanding bar manager which understood but security simply asserted dominance and aside I don’t care what you say I’ll consider it arguing and refused me and my friend entry which split our group in half. It a nice place with an awesome atmosphere. I love the bands especially almost where evening. It's also very inclusive and diverse as am of African extraction. Never faced any kind of discrimination there.

Great place to have a pepsi with your family, drank so many beers here so good! The burger patties tasted like dog food I almost wet my pants! Great live music and vibe, literally the worst burger I've ever eaten, like eating a cardboard sandwich full of donkey meat. Awesome staff!

The staff at Universal Bar are friendly, proactive and have fantastic communication. They really helped me organise my event and navigate through COVID-19 restrictions, and ensured that my event went exactly to plan. The upstairs venue itself is awesome; great food, wonderful sound system, lots of dance space and seating and overall fantastic vibe. Would definitely recommend these guys for your next function

Good live music

The music was great, the live band was very very good, they really brought the entire atmosphere to the next level. However the dance floor is a tad small once everyone gets into the groovy mode. FYI, the crowd there is generally more mature, so if you are looking for someplace to party your head off maybe go to one of the other nightclubs haha. Otherwise, it's an amazing place to hang out, enjoy the music and the drinks

Haven’t had a night out in so long. Decided to give The Universal Bar ago. Went there last time 8 months ago. Last time I was there the security staff were awful. Well it seems like nothing has changed. The back bar was great. The bar staff was really nice & helpful. But then there is a short women there who is completely rude. No idea why she works there. She clearly hates her job. Then once again the security are terrible. Bullies. I watched with so many people. This use to be a great place. Great atmosphere. But it clearly has lost its touch. The band was terrible too. Watch out for the bouncer with the bald head. He is clearly has mental health issues. Please be careful when you go to this venue.

Drinks and entertainment was good but I wasn’t impressed with the food. The wedges were fine but the pulled beef nachos were not great. The beef was very dry and the nachos were in one lump because the cheese had re-solidified before it got to the table. But, as I mentioned, the entertainment was great and the drinks were nice

DO NOT RECOMMEND A VISIT TO THIS BAR. Haven’t been to the city in 10 years plus. Highly, extremely, irrefutably disappointing that Terry (security) decided that I was incapable of attending the venue after the 2 drinks I had at dinner. Was asked how many drinks I had and after 3-4 seconds of barely looking at me Terry had decided I wasn’t suitable for attending the venue without giving due reason. I did not bother wasting my time trying to argue. I called and explained the situation to a young lady which I did not get her name. She was polite but she did not have the power over the security and could not help!!! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED DO NOT RECOMMEND A VISIT.

The lady ecelled. The drinks were perfection. And watching them being made was great. And the bar is a great unassuming place and all the staff are very friendly and helpful the perfect place for a couple of friends or that after work group and with a small but very tasty food menu. A good fusion of all the best things you want in a local bar. I would have given the 6 stars but for one thing, not enough GIN please buy more Gin.

Universal bar is one of few live music venues in Perth. Whilst the bands play cover songs of popular hits, the liveness if the music makes it a great experience. Almost always packed out on Friday and Saturday nights. It is more designed for an older crowd with friendly but firm bouncers and a large selection of premium spirits and wines. There is also an upstairs section which is open for a chill when its not booked out for a private function.

IMO Universal is possibly the best live music late night bars in the city..30+ years on and still as popular as ever. Kudos to the management for hiring attentive, friendly and customer centric bar staff and security. The kicker was listening to quality live music - great band and range of covers. This place is an institution. It’s been around in the heart of Northbridge since I can remember and was around for years before I ever set foot in it. Live bands plying all the current hits and oldies you love every night. Great drinks and pub grub. If you’re looking for a fun uncomplicated night this is the spot. Love the band and music great spot although small love the upstairs area for a different vibe ,love the DJ ,live music,loved getting there earlier to talk and chat move around with hardly any people at first,it is best getting there earlier, had the most greatest time a fun night of dancing, singing and drinking it had been absolutely years since I had been there,gets packed like sardines though,a little bit squishy on tge dance floor,cab get claustrophobic at times,hence,loved being upstairs where my partner likes to have a smoke and I can still dance and enjoy different music loved being there had a great night and weekend.

Came here for Fringe and saw comics perform in the upstairs terrace. It was a great location and an awesome show. The downstairs bar is spacious and the service friendly.

Won't be back me and my friend came to your bar on our way met a CLEARLY SOBER couple that was refused entry, when they tried to enter they said her partner could go in but not her, then I was like do you think thats fair she is clearly sober. The attitude I got from your security was appalling just because I said she was clearly sober, He made us line up then stormed back and said get out I don't like your attitude, will never be back to your extremely rude staff member with a clear power trip. I have worked in emergency services for many years and I can tell you something I know the difference between a sober and intoxicated person I will tell you that, but I have no interest in entering a premises were a security guard has a ego bigger than perth, and clearly that was his only Job that night maybe he needs to re read his job description

Great spot for live music and the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind! Tried the Pulled Beef Brisket Pizza and it was melt-in-your-mouth good. Brilliant place for a celebration of just a few drinks. The cocktail menu isn't particularly extensive, but they make a mean Espresso Martini.

I was dragged out by a security without any explanation. Place to avoid if you are willing to have some fun!!! Do not advise go !

Had a 21st function upstairs on the weekend. Great location, great facilities and OUTSTANDING customer service. Staff were very responsive and understanding in the planning stages, extremely helpful, thoughtful and generous in the setup. During the event, there was lots of communication, flexibility and a great vibe. I really couldn’t fault all staff. Thank you for helping us have a perfect night. 😊

Good atmosphere inside but security guard’s disgraceful, threw my partner out for standing on someone’s heel when dancing. He apologized immediately after as it was completely an accident- they said he was too intoxicated, i have done that plenty of times sober, very disappointed as completely ruined our Xmas night out. Will not be returning
