I wanted to let it go but the hotel specifically asked me to write a review of the stay. The hotel itself is fine, rooms are a bit small, but nothing too bad. They are clean too. However, there's a club just opposite the hotel which does wild and loud parties with live music in its garden. The music is extremely loud. The hotel obviously knows about it and provides earplugs. They do not help, the bass from the speakers (which are directed at the hotel) is making the bed shake. You cannot escape it. One of the guest told me in a lift "it was like having my ear pressed to the club's speaker" and it really was. So, it's a great hotel if you don't mind the fact that you cannot actually sleep. I checked out early, first time in my life, and switched to a different hotel (Quay - similar room prices, much nicer and on the waterfront). Fun trivia: during the check in I was told I shouldn't worry about loud birds that were heard at the reception area because I won't hear them in the room. I didn't know the person who checked me in meant "because you will only hear loud music" but now I kind of appreciate the dark joke (after I've already spent a peaceful night at Quay).

Great boutique hotel in a fantastic location at Northbridge, the part of Perth City where all the buzz is. Close to so many food options (restaurants, cafe, pubs), pharmacies, and numerous other amenities. There is a nice community square right behind it surrounded by numerous museums, theatres, cultural centres. I booked 2 small sized rooms that were very comfortable and quiet. The hotels provided a good breakfast selection and good coffee, breakfast is available to 11 am. The service quality was fantastic, almost everyone I met was friendly, eager to help and were generally delightful to interact. They all contributed to the personality of the hotel which includes a sense of humour which you can see in the little touches throughout the hotel, e.g. A sign that says "We don't have a gym, we have stairs"; instead of a Do-Not-Disturb card to hang on your door, it says "Dreams-in-Progress". The one minor annoyance is the container for the bar soap at the wash basin, where the bar soap fits exactly into the container and it becomes near impossible to take the bar soap out. Hope they can fix this. Will definitely be back at Alex Hotel for my next visit to Perth.

I had a wonderful stay at the Alex Hotel in Perth. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the cleanliness of the hotel was impressive. The breakfast and coffee were not only delicious but also a great start to the day. I loved the added perk of free bike rental, which allowed me to explore the city easily. The staff were friendly and accommodating, making me feel right at home. The hotel's central location was perfect for exploring Perth's attractions. I would highly recommend the Alex Hotel to anyone visiting Perth!

Beautiful hotel with simple and practical design. We only stayed the one night to avoid driving home late after a night out, but wish we stayed longer. The rooms are on the smaller side, but have everything you need. We also didn't have a chance to use the rooftop at night, but went and had a seat before we checked out in the morning. Coffee from the foyer was also great. Would definitely come back 😊

Gorgeous boutique hotel. Basic rooms. No TV remote in room called their 24hr reception 3 times to get remote and no answered. Also told me it would be a temp hold the $200 bond, this wasn't the case and am still waiting for them to give my money back

I could not be happier. I had a fantastic experience at Alex Hotel. I’ve wanted to come here for years and glad I did. Room and general aesthetic of the hotel is cute, unique. Staff are efficient and friendly, without being overbearing. Location is great. Free breakfast included. The room I booked was teeny tiny, no problem for a solo traveller. There is only one lift so I can imagine there might be some delays during busy periods (was fine mid-week). Would definitely return.

The room was very nice, comfy and simple, with a neat bathroom. Had a great stay but my only complaint would be that the complimentary buffet was hardly inclusive - no hot breakfast just toast, cereal and some fruit, and if you wanted hot food you have to pay extra.

We enjoyed our stay here. Very good location, and rooms were comfortable, enjoyed the simple breakfast (would also be nice to include hot meals). Would stay here again. Just one thing to note - be careful with the room doors, they are quite heavy, so important to take care if you have small kids especially.

Glorified Hostel. Don’t believe the hype. This review will be harsh but I genuinely feel it's justified. The hotel rests solely on what some have labeled ‘trendy’, however the people praising this hotel are the Helen Keller’s of style and substance. Possibly one of the most basic and over rated hotels I've ever stayed in, especially outrageous for the price. The lounge and 'lobby' (which is just a bench where the receptionist has their back to you) was styled nicely, but that's where it ended. The rest of the hotel is "decorated" (and I use that term loosely) in the most drab and cheap 'storage facility chic'. The hotel has absolutely no redeeming amenities or features other than location, which is also a double edged sword. It’s so noisy being in the nightlife district they give you complimentary ear plugs, which speaks for itself. The beds are comfortable, and although the rooms are clean they are incredibly basic and small, so basic there's literally nothing else to tell you about them. There’s no where to hang clothes or store luggage, no fridge for refreshments, just a medium sized tv on the wall. The breakfast was literally, and I mean literally, just a small assortment of baked products, some fruit and yoghurt - not even a standard basic continental breakfast, but the coffee was good. The common areas sans the lobby are not air conditioned, so the impromptu sauna you're subjected to whilst waiting for the single lift that moves at a glacial pace, isn't especially fun either. There are much better hotels within walking distance, especially for the price. Sorry, but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I like.

The room was very nice, comfy and simple, with a lovely bathroom. Had a great stay but my only complaint would be that the complimentary buffet was hardly inclusive - no hot breakfast (eggs, bacon etc), just toast, cereal and some fruit, and if you wanted hot food you have to pay extra.

I have stayed in thousands of hotels all over the world in 15 years of travelling for business. This hotel looked good on paper but turned out very poor. Rooms small and awkward and not as nice as pictured, Staff where rude, and when trying to converse with the staff and eventually the manager i instantly got attacked and made to seem like i was the one causing the issue. And told they wouldn't deal with me anymore. I will not stay here again. Ive stayed in thousands of hotels all over the world in 15 years of travelling for work.

As i live semi rural, occasionally my partner and i stay in the city overnight if we are heading out. Alex is the perfect hotel for a northbridge stay, very clean, simple but elegant. Only complaint is that the walls are a little thin, so noise travels easy. But certainly a great place to stay and very reasonably priced.

Incredible central location. Gorgeous aesthetic design. Comfortable beds. Friendly accommodating staff. Complimentary bubbles. Well-priced rates and gorgeous sky terrace. Not sure if it was worth paying a little extra for the balcony, but all in all, Alex Hotel is the perfect place for a minimalist traveller! Would love to stay again!

Good location in the middle of Northbridge, an easy walk to the city and nearby restaurants/bars The downsides: *I emailed the hotel prior to arrival and said I had been spooked by the bad reviews particularly about noise, a staff member replied and said all good would allocate a high floor. On arrival I was assigned a room on Level 2..... Literally the opposite of what was promised. Check In associate was rude and unhelpful when I queried this - We got to the room and it sounded like we were inside a nightclub - So went back down stairs and eventually after a lot of huffing and puffing they moved me to level 5 which was better *The hotel charges a $200 security deposit - Which is obviously quite normal for resorts that you can roomcharge and incur some expense - but for a basic (Barely hotel, more like motel) accomodation - This is extortionate. They promised it would be back on my card within 2-3 days, almost a week later i'm still waiting *The room is basic to say the least, no hanging space other than two hooks on a wall, the room had two coat hangers in total, no significant furnishing and all in all feels like it has been fitted out on the cheap - Considering the rate of $300+ for a nights accomodation it was very disappointing *Bedding is OK, Bed itself is comfortable but the pillows were average (Very flat and not like a 5 star hotel charging this would usually have) *Breakfast is an absolute embarrassment - Went down stairs, coffee pots were all empty, staff saw me struggling to get coffee and just walked off didnt offer to top them up. They had croissants and some bread for toast, but only marmalade jam, nothing else. The offering itself was absolutely awful and not exciting in the least. *All the staff i encountered were cold and abrupt, the person who (I presume) was the front office manager admitted herself she hadn't even stayed at the hotel previously and was not familiar with the rooms - surely as an induction you'd get staff to experience the product for themselves..... Honestly - for $300 it was a rubbish stay - If it was $150-$180 i'd consider it fine for the price and live with the faults, but for that price, there are way better options in Perth

I enjoyed my stay at Alex Hotel. However I am generally keen on indie brands and unique experiences and don’t particularly enjoy the mainstream. For those who are up for a hotel chain experience ie provision of all supplies and standard bellboy / butler service, I recommend you stick to the standard hotel chain experience. For those contemplating a stay here I am providing the rundown so you know what to expect. We will start with cons cos bad news before the good is always best. Cons: - No dropoff area There is no official dropoff area so it can be challenging to offload luggage. If traveling with someone you can however do a sidewalk dropoff. The hotel is located on a corner of James St beside the library. Come in via William Street so you don’t miss it. - There are limited amenities in the room so bring your own toothbrush, bedroom slippers and do take note that water, coffee and tea as well as the fridge are located on level 1 that you can access at any time. - The noise from the street as some complain, is there if you take a unit with a balcony. However if you close the windows the sound is greatly reduced and there is air conditioning so you won’t suffocate. It’s a small price to pay for the convenience of the location. And put on the earplugs if you really have an issue. Nothing is perfect. - Information on the accommodation is provided briefly by the reception as well as available on posters or a PDF file on the site so unless you ask more or try to be more resourceful you might miss some of the important info that makes this a much more pleasant stay than some have claimed it to be. Pros: - The last con is really precedence to what the pros are here. I enjoy indie experiences and this was one of the usual I am more than used to. The amazing thing that I noticed through the poster and through a Google update the hotel had but missed out on experiencing due to my short stay was the collab they have with Chris Wilson Fitness Studio. It would have helped if the info was shared by the reception or even when I booked the stay. - The breakfast while limited was of great quality. I’ve been to multiple hotel chains during work travel and you only get good quality if the hotel chain is a local one. Sure you get quantity at these buffets but it depends on what you are after. Coffee was by a proper barista with proper beans. - The plugs had proper USB C sockets and the TV had Chromecast so you can cast from your phone - The toiletries are amazingly good and you don’t get the same when it comes to typical chains. - The service while limited due to lesser staff was good enough for us. I witnessed one staff at the counter from afternoon till late night. If you have to stand at the counter all day, I doubt you’d have a big smile on your face for every person who walks in but she was polite and friendly. F&B staff particularly the barista were equally friendly and provided good service that was authentic. - The location is amazing. We were next door to a good car park CPP at the library costing $17 for 1 night and had multiple street parking options. We were walking distance of the museum and other cultural buildings as well as the busport and the city centre with multiple food options. Overall wherever you go, be prepared for your stay. I had viewed a few hotels before deciding on Alex Hotel and decided on it cos I wanted an Aussie experience and I found it here. If you are looking for a global hotel experience definitely relook your options.

An armchair or chair and table would have been more practical, more then enough room. Also, bedside drawers made more sense to put your small items into or onto like phone keys wallet etc instead of a small non-functional barstool type seats they preferred to use Aircon was faulty, at times throughout the night as we found out once we settled in around midnight making a terrible buzzing electrical noise and also a banging noise, once it switched off after reaching it's temp yes it switches off very uncomfortable in these warm evenings! We rang the night manager from the room phone who was prompt in arriving and did offer us another room, but considering the time my wife and I declined, the aircon did start and stop through out the night unfortunately it's buzzing and banging noises also continued Fresh crisp bed linen and towels, thankfully Staff were friendly

This hotel offers a perfect place to rest your head after a big night out in North Bridge. But the breakfast is a complete letdown. As for the rooms, no tea or coffee making facilities and no fridge. Value for money, definitely not. Just being honest.

Lovely hotel ticks all the boxes (except parking which is $20 a night if on the weekend ) warm welcome, immaculately clean room and amazing breakfast ( best croissants since Paris) definitely would stay again if going in to Perth.

I cannot recommend for a business traveler. Horrible WiFi and 4/5 G coverage. i wasted most of my time due to internet issues. I spoke to the staff however didn't fixe till I left . Will never go back. Was more expensive than Novatel when I booked this hotel. Roms are like school bordings in 1960s. No wardrobes you have to hang clothes on the wall hangers. Ear plugs are provided free of charge due to external noise.

Fabulous boutique hotel in Perth CBD. Mid range prices but worth every $. We liked it so much we stayed there twice. The bed was super comfy and the shower was powerful with lots of hot water. The complimentary breakfast was amazing. The home-made granola, I know granola! was tasty and filling, the artisan fruit bread was delicious and the vegamite & cheese cruffins were off the scale. Free tea & coffee are available all day and the staff go above and beyond to help you. They all look like they enjoy working there. Well done the Alex team, you rock.

In the heart of the CBD, quite a rowdy area when the night rolls round but rooms are quite sound proof. Included breakfast on the mezzanine was amazing and a perfect day starter. Rooms are quite small but perfect for a short trip. Great price, great hotel.

The carpet in the hotel room could benefit from more thorough cleaning. Additionally, I noticed that one of the towels had a stain. I also observed some small moths flying around the room. The AC fan was quite noisy, which was very bothersome. In terms of breakfast, the variety offered was limited. On a positive note, the hotel staff were extremely pleasant and helpful.

I thoroughly enjoy my stay at the Alex, this is definitely my new go to hotel, my room was very comfortable, check in was so smooth and I love the late checkout. The staff were amazing. Thank you I will be back.

Great experience and customer service. Check out was amazing because it was at 12 and got to sleep in as had a late night out. Room was amazing. There is no parking on site but there is the state library car park which is open 24/7 and is literally right next door. We arrived at 6:30pm at the carpark and left the next day at 12:30-1pm and only cost us 16.00 at the carpark. Would recommend this place

We booked for a Queen City view room. What we received was the back of some buildings and the homeless. Definitely was not worth the money we paid for. I’m sure they have other lovely rooms, but the fact that our room wasn’t advertised and was one of the worst rooms I’ve seen for a hotel that cost over $300 for a night was displeasing and breach of customer service for false advertising. The room was dirty and our sheets and curtains had stains. The colour of the walls was a disgusting mustard yellow. There was dust on the headboard as well as the phone and skirtings. Did not feel comfortable or relaxed in the room as the photos had advertised on the site.

Alex hotel was a great and unique place to stay around perth. Thank you for greeting my husband through a happy birthday card. When I booked a room online. I did not receive booking confirmation but instead a link at mews.li which makes me feel confused and unsafe. As I have never received all the details of my booking such as bottle of sparkling, voucher and breakfast. I managed to send an email and got a response that I will receive booking confirmation 3 days prior of arrival, which was fine. When I received the confirmation all the details was not there such as $150 voucher, sparkling and breakfast included. Other than that they response very quick with all the concerns. Reception area was too exposed as you can see other bookings. I will definitely still come back! Great hotel and experience overall. Breakfast options was great. Interior was funky with comfy bed.

Wow!! Had the best nights stay thank u to the smiley team :) The cosiest pillow and bed! Totally zonked out to the heaviest sleep I’ve experienced in a while!! Sooo good!! And what about my Brioche Toast & Compote!!!! It was wayyyy to small for my liking but opted for the Bacon & Egg sandwich as a second breakfast! Definitely need Lactose free milk, but given my parking next door only cost me $23!! I’ma let it slide!! Remarkable Alex Hotel! I’ll be back!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Marsella was super lovely at reception. Had an amazing view of the city and tidy room. free push bikes to use for exploring the city, coffee & muffins up top for free and helped keep our luggage even after check out so we could go explore the city !!! I’m actually so happy about the staff always looking after us. Also my partners birthday so they helped us celebrate as well 💕

We liked this funky little hotel centrally located next to the CBD. The rooms while small are well appointed for a short stay. The Mezzanine common area has a small kitchen and coffee/ tea making. There is also a large commercial refrigerator if you have your own supplies. The staff are friendly, the roof top deck to nice and there is a bar/ café in the lobby. We would definitely stay here again.

We came in for dinner on the 02 July 2022 and I had the most wonderful experience at The Alex Hotel/Shadow Wine Bar on the corner of James and William Street Northbridge 😊 As I have recently had Major surgery I am currently unable to consume solids and when I asked the lovely Staff at The Shadow Wine Bar Northbridge if it was possible for them to please purée my meal as I cannot consume solids the lovely lady responded with “Absolutely, not a problem” The Shadow Wine Bar now has a new customer as not only was the service beyond Fantastic but the fillet Mignon (puréed) was also Absolutely Amazing too 🤩 I highly thank and appreciate your customer service at Shadow Wine Bar and I will be recommending and returning soon. Thankyou ❤️

I called in to the Alex yesterday morning for breakfast and was very disappointed with the slow service and poor food. Although not a guest of the hotel and a walk in I found the staff quite dismissive of my needs and not in a hurry at all to serve me. The price for breakfast was also quite high. Definitely avoid in future.

You need to understand that rooms in these sorts of hotels are very small. Plus the wall between bedroom and bathroom is frosted glass and is not very private at all. It's ok if you don't mind being visible when you are sitting on the toilet. Great location and very nice staff but understand what you are paying for when you book.

  • 5/5 Trenton M. 1 year ago on Google
Great central location in the city! Within easy reach of everything and all the services/facilities were brilliant. Bonus points for free water in the room! Also love the idea of the mezzanine room where you go for coffee and tea/snacks

  • 4/5 P. G. M. 1 year ago on Google
Why 4 and not 5 stars? Why the Alex is a great place to stay: great staff, great location, great design, clean room and bathroom, comfy bed. What was wrong / worth improving? If you find complimentary earplugs in your bathroom you know what the issue will be: noise. I am not talking about the noise from the street here. The interior walls are paperthin. You can hear EVERYTHING (literally). If the next room door slams shut it feels like it is your room door, you can hear every word and sound through the walls! Sorry but that is not right and needs rectification.

Super cute but a bit loud at night do to how central it is to everything. It’s the concession you make to stay at school ch a great place. Definitely recommend, ear plus provided and the body wash is so good!

In a very, very busy area, especially at night and weekends, but close to Perth Shopping area and malls. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Rooms are compact and look a bit bare with concrete ceilings, no wardrobe only a couple of hangars on pegs, frosted glass door between toilet/shower and bedroom. No shaving mirror, lighting not bright. TV and AC work well. Breakfasts different, kinda help yourself without any input from the hotel. Not bad value for money.

Loved our stay at the Alex Hotel. Right in the heart of a vibrant arts & cultural precinct with plenty to do and see within walking distance. Friday and Saturday nights were energetic on the streets but it was such fun! As soon as we were in our room wth doors and windows shut it was easy to drift off. (We stayed in a medium room with balcony). We ate at so many amazing places (again, all within a short walk). Some favourites include Edward and Ida’s and Shadow Wine Bar. Highly commended goes to the honeymisu I gorged on from Honeycake. WA bar of the year Wines of While is also a short walk down the street. The Alex team were all so helpful and lovely to deal with. Appreciated the clever mezzanine level housing many thoughtful touches and the delightful breakfast spread provided. The fresh pastries and house made granola were thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks Team Alex!
