If you really love your baby and want to save him/her, do NOT go to this hospital. Waiting period is minimum 5 hours to see a doctor! They keep you waiting as much as they can so you will give up and leave the hospital. There are bullying behaviour by some of the staff there. You have to be really assertive to get your way which you know is right for you. KEMH is supposed to be a high standard women hospital in WA but the quality of care and support is highly disappointing.

Worst experience my wife and me ever had and this is supposed to be best hospital in w.a. First of all I’m pretty sure the government has made it so hard to find parking so they can make money by issuing parking fines to pay for the hospital costs, we were driving around in circles for nearly 1 hour and couldn’t find a spot. How can you have the most important hospital for high risk pregnancies and have absolutely no parking?I asked the lady at front what if it’s a emergency and my wife goes into labour they said you need to find a parking spot lol. Then you have bullying behaviour by some of the staff there. You have to be really assertive to get your way which you know is right for you. During covid no support person is allowed to go inside the hospital and even little kids under 3 years old we could not find any arrangement for our little kids so we just had to cancel our really important appointment. Do not recommend this place unless you want to ruin your whole day and you could die, they at top wouldn’t care less.looking at all the reviews I’m surprised this place hasn’t closed down by now. Someone needs to start a petition to fix this place up .I advice all pregnant women not to go to this hospital as if you are in a emergency situation, your life will be in danger as you might be seen after 4-5 hours.

Not even worth half a star to be honest. By all means my wife and I got to know many of wonderful up and coming young nurses and midwife’s there with the most delightful enthusiasm in them and the younger staff. But to be honest, it does not help that this institute that labels itself as a “women’s hospital” where it feels more like a women’s prison by the senior staff that are routinely rude to younger nursing staff and most disgustingly, towards my wife and patients. Guess this comes with it being a post-colonial Institute with many Poms filtering in to the state through such nursing institutions in the UK. I just really would like for the day that this country/state understands that we don’t need the Poms in this era the way some lingering institutes from the post-colonial era bring in

I especially Thank the nurse who spoke to me on the phone and agreed that I could come to hospital after the call. Arrived at 6am, got checked at 6:30am, we welcomed our baby at 7:30am safe and sound❤️ . There are signs of labor but pregnancy is unpredictable and full of surprises 😊. I Always admire the nurses. They are doing great job. The hospital is spotless.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and pleasant to interact with. Would not hesitate to recommend this place and will definitely visit again. We needed to get our serology and MRSA screening done, so we headed there. You will have access to excellent services throughout your whole stay at the facility.

If I could give no stars I completely would!! I went there as I was 11 weeks pregnant knowing something wasn’t right, and only because I was spotting with no pain at all they didn’t take me serious. They sent me home after examining me and said everything is fine, if you want maybe take a ultra sound for a peace of mind, even though the lady was there to do the scan, they didn’t care but sent me home saying it’s completely normal. Come to doing an ultrasound knowing very well something wasn’t right, unfortunately baby passed…. Mothers know when somethings wrong with the child whether unborn or out of the womb! Maybe they should take worried pregnant woman more seriously!!

I have attended the gynocologist /pelvic pain clinic for the last 3yrs in which the phsio : EMMA KIRKALDY and psychologist : ORLA TYSON have sat there rolling there eyes and sniggering at each other making comments that insinuate me my pain is all in my head... I have now been diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis ... They are unprofessional and just plain nasty and i feel sorry for anyone that has to deal with them.. i have left that place crying

My wife had a potential emergency issue and presented at this hospital. The person couldn’t even draw blood properly and had to pull out the needle. Frighten my wife and she never wants to go back. The only positive thing I can say was the nice midwife at the entrance. She remembered us on exit and was shocked. The rest of the wait staff were very short and not caring. Nurses were not busy, sitting around chatting and the whole process took over 3 hours. Quite an unbelievable experience.

My wife was a patient recently at KEMH and it is with great sadness she has since passed on....but I must echo her words and wishes in which she told me numerous times "PLEASE DO NOT TAKE ME BACK TO KEMH" and I wholeheartedly agreed with her - RIP MY LOVE...

Firstly i would like to say that i am not a review person. I don't like writing negative reviews and most certainly do not want to be a karen but i feel as i need to get my word out. I feel so bad for the staff here. The midwife's and doctors are lovely. They have been so helpful aswell as my team. But having very low staff is affecting everyone and especially my mental health right now. Been in here for nearly 2 weeks now with some complications. Got told last week that my induction was booked for today. Drs came in early and confirmed today was the day. My partner got here at 8am and we had no communication or anything after that. It's hard staying in hospital for so long enough as it is and not knowing what is going on. Very poorly ran and managed and I know the midwife's are doing their absolute best. Very stressed and anxious at this point that I had to have a cry in the shower. Then we got told around 630pm that we were definitely going in at 9pm when new staff come on. The poor midwife had to come back an hour later to tell us that it's cancelled and they don't know when it will be. Would be nice to have a time as my partner has to sit with me for a very long time trying to calm me down. I understand that sometimes it can't be controlled but I would of loved to be able to go home and get the call when to come back in. It's very draining. I'm exhausted and we both are not sleeping well. Should be the greatest time of our lives being a First time mum and dad but all we have is stress, anxiety and a poor partner trying his best to keep a pregnant hormonal woman happy. I really wish the government would put money into this hospital to upgrade especially their equipment and parking. Mental health is affected and I feel very deflated.

I’m only giving 2 stars due to a compassionate nurse and wonderful doctor, during an otherwise traumatic and distressing experience with callous, unprofessional, rude midwives. Otherwise I’d give 0 stars if possible. Please, if you have to use their emergency service as I did recently, try to ensure you have a support person with you to protect you. Please increase your staffing levels so we don’t have to wait for many hours in pain and emotional distress at being treated so harshly by your callous midwives, and ensure they undergo training in compassion and professionalism. They should not take their stress out on vulnerable patients, and at the very least, if they can’t bring themselves to be kind, they can at least not be actively nasty as I experienced. I could not bring myself to talk much as I had had a missed miscarriage of a much wanted baby, and the midwife on the front desk was rude and sarcastic towards me as I tried not to cry openly. She also gave me incorrect information (the doctor confirmed) which caused me huge distress and got stroppy when I questioned it. People like that should not be allowed to interact with vulnerable patients. I have used a pseudonym to protect myself as I’m terrified I might need to return there one day.

Worst birthing experience of my life. For a hospital that prides itself it state of art NICU and SCN facilities, the staff in West 2 neonatal wing treated my son like another number and they couldn't care less about being there. Constantly being told conflicting information about both of my twins everyday for 11 days. Avoid this hospital no matter what. Either shut it down, move it to QE2 or update it because at the moment, it's an absolute joke.

If you're a newly expecting mother, once you make it past the first gauntlet, that being the witches that work at reception of East Wing, the doctors, nurses and remainder of admin staff we dealt with here were great. The admin staff at East Wing reception can fly on their broomsticks straight back to the 16th century. A rude group of blunt ladies who should not have the task of receiving first-time-expecting mothers.

Parking here is an absolute disaster you have to come 45 minutes before appointments just to secure parking and even then parking is scarce!! They need cater for patients who are there for a purpose not having to struggle outside and worrying about getting fines! I hope there’s a nice spot for when my wife’s in labour so I don’t have to worry about finding parking for a freaken hour!!!! P.s all the staff there are lovely people and in the best hands when it comes to caring for the mothers and babies!!!!

Generally the service there was shockingly bad but the surgeons and midwives were generally good. We were messed around so much I'll just give a couple of stars for the staff but the system needs a complete overhaul. My wife has written a complaint direct so I'll leave it.

Thank you so much to the Staff there! My daughter had gestational diabetes and you wanted her to deliver 2 weeks early for their health. She came in and had 2 attempts to induce over a few days, and you were all so patient and comforting, even though it took 5 days! Then when the bubs heart rate dropped....you all jumped into action, getting her and dad to the er and doing an emergency c section. Our healthy, beautiful FIRST grand child came into the world, because of all of you, your knowledge and dedication to your patients! Since her Father and I aren't there, we live in the USA, we wanted you to know how GRATEFUL we are for each and every one of you! We will stop and thank you in person in June when we arrive, but until then know we Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! The Bush's

I have no doubt this hospital provides quality treatment and an excellent standard of care for all women’s health issues. I know they have the most experience, qualified and knowledgable gynecologists in WA, if not the country. However, unfortunately I cannot speak to this from personal experience. My mother was referred here for emergency treatment by her GP on May 23. The ambulance operator told me to call ahead to let them know, only for the young receptionist at KEMH to take too much pleasure in exerting her power and authority and turning us away citing, “She has to go to her own hospital in her catchment area”. I asked, “Why would she go back there, when they’re the ones who stuffed up the procedure last time?” The receptionist said, “They didn’t stuff it up.” How could she arrive at that conclusion without knowing the hospital or procedure I was referring to? Totally unprofessional of her to make a personal judgment call and defend it by saying, “the registrar is here with me and he agrees”. When I said her doctor chose this hospital, the young receptionist condescendingly said, “Yeah, they always try to do that, but your mum can’t come here.” When my mother’s GP called to intervene, she was told the hospital didn’t have a CT scanner. The biggest women’s hospital in the state doesn’t have an oft-used, necessary piece of medical equipment on site? Riiiggghhhtt.... Instead, my mother was redirected to FSH where the Emergency waiting area screen listed ONE patient at KEMH’s ED compared to 48 at FSH. My mother stayed in the assessment room from 3 pm to 10.15 without the area of complaint ever once being examined. I truly believe if KEMH had taken care of my mother that afternoon, she would still be alive today. It’s heartbreaking that government bureaucracy, local geography and inexperienced staff exercising a petty power trip, demonstrating authority for authority’s sake would take the care out of patient care and eventually end up taking a precious life too soon.

No problems with the midwives and doctors. They were all professional. This review is for the way this hospital is MANAGED. It is so very clearly understaffed that I’m surprised more nursing staff have not quit than already have. Have been told by every single person we asked and they all said the same thing - management won’t put in enough staff. Midwives are asked to do constant overtime as a bandage and midwives will often say no because this is taking the problem off management and putting it on staff. Clearly if our premier maternity hospital is struggling this way, we have a problem in Western Australia with public health care.

My experience was terrible when I was born my daughter in King Edward hospital. I gave birth to a child in Vietnam International Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in District 1, an experienced and well-served doctor with a cart for pregnant and 24-hour security Born 1 child in 2013 in Perth. At King Edward Hospital (the head of Western Australia ) 1) Phone 1 hour before delivery but the delivery room is not ready yet 2) at night time 11:40 pm no one directly instructed the entrance to the delivery room and there was no instruction manual to enter the delivery room. 3) Although I had telephoned 1 hour before (I already had a prenatal check-up file), the nurse had not allowed me to go into the delivery room because I had not finished the dossier with the operating room. 4) after waiting for 20 minutes, I want to ask to go into the labor room, even though I broke down the vomit and stomachache but waited for it (I had to wait, stupid, the baby wanted to go but had to wait) ) Waiting seats are uncomfortable seats for pregnant women, I have to get up and give birth to babies at the reception. At that time, I saw the nurse put the stroller in the delivery room. 3) no doctor, only a nurse, for practicing sewing cuts like a bad sewing pig and sewing for 2 hours for being an intern. 4) After giving birth, call the bathroom immediately. Ask for water and food for cold water and sandwiches to eat with cheese. 5) everything is finished at 3 am, the nurse told my husband at 6 am to take me home because of the lack of room to stay and recover. 6) when the birth room came out of the hospital far but there was no wheelchair, for 2 couples who carried the clothes and the baby on their own found their way out to the hospital. Luckily, it is painful to give birth at night, and pain during the day is more tired because it is difficult to find parking. Not over yet The nurse came to the house and told me not to use baby powder because it would harm my baby and put it in the trash ?? Although the sale of talcum powder in Australia is not banned, this story is funny, if the powder is toxic? Another nurse told me to use it to fight the baby. This is my experience of giving birth in King Edward Perth hospital it is DISGUSTING .

This place is the worst for wait times! A minimum of a 3 hour wait at the east wing clinic every week when I go! And the wait time at MFAU is also beyond ridiculous with similar wait times…. I understand being short staffed and the issue our hospitals are facing, but why is it that other hospitals aren’t facing such extreme wait times…. I mean cmon! maternity should not be this way…. Keeping women sitting for hours and hours getting more and more tired and hungry and irritable…. The care you get once your in is decent and yes you’ll be in good hands, but jeez be prepared… come with snacks, water a book and a fully charged battery cause your entire day will be wasted here. Also for partners, get some good sleep in and meditate before hand cause your patience is gonna be tested …!

I gave birth to our first baby in King Eddies almost four weeks ago. The staff in the operating theatre were incredibly professional and tried their best to keep my stressful labour and delivery as safe and smooth as possible. I would like to thank both doctors and midwives for their professionalism and care. They were quick and informed me at every step of the delivery. Special thanks to Dr L. Baxter, who was absolutely professional and extremely knowledgeable and midwife Leigh-Anne, who was so lovely, caring and supportive throughout the whole process. As a first time mum giving a birth in a different country without a family isn’t easy but she treated me with such care and I was well looked after. I have a healthy baby boy and the staff in the unit were a big part of that! After the delivery I was then transferred to the ward 5 and again, the excellent care continued, with midwives, the physio, the cooks, the room service, the cleaners all being friendly, caring, and easy to talk to. Special thanks to the midwife Kate Ollerhead, who was taking care of me. I learned a lot from her and I’m so grateful for that. I'm just so grateful to have been able to receive such fantastic care after such a challenging and frightening experience. I felt thoroughly looked after and reassured by the time I left the hospital. Thank you again and keep up the good work everyone. I would certainly recommend KEMH to any future parents.

I attended the day surgery unit at King Edward today. The service is so great and everyone is so knowledgeable. The team took such great care of me, especially Tamara Walters and the nurse Des. They were both so kind and explained everything to me in great detail so I had a high understanding of what was happening. After my procedure I started to feel quite dizzy and the nurse Des helped me straight away and didn’t leave me until I felt better. She also kept checking in to see how I was managing with the pain and pain relief. I must say after being at hospitals many times this has definitely been the best experience.

Had my first son here in 2018, then moved to the USA. It was a no-brainer when I discovered I was pregnant with my second, that I would be returning here. There were a few times pre-natal appointments ran late, a few miscommunications but at the end of the day both my experiences were amazing and both my sons were welcomed into the world safely. Thank you to all of the staff there, from the ladies who bring the meals in to the obstetricians, to the administrative staffs to the midwives, bless you! **If you ever feel personally wronged against, as I had read in a few previous reviews, mistakes can happen but remember these guys have safely delivered (potentially) millions of babies over its existence. Things to note.... 1. There are periods in the year where there’s more patients, so it can get busy and why is this? Because 9 months prior, there were more people gettin’ busy. 9 months from Easter, Christmas, New Years etc. 2. It’s not accurate to compare this hospitals’ systems and processes to places in other countries. Australia has its own practices that are generally standard across the board. As other countries have theirs, don’t assume what’s done in places overseas is done here. Just know that this hospital is the most equipped in Western Australia to handle an emergency when it comes to giving birth. You’re in good hands, so is your baby, count your blessings. 3. If you were one of the unfortunate ones to see a specialist/midwife that seemed impatient or annoyed, everybody is human and we all have the occasional bad day. 4. Some hospitals speak to mothers privately for prickly sensitive issues, that might disturb/upset the assumed/indicated father.... If I possibly have another baby in the future, yes I’ll be coming all the way back from the states to give birth here again, 100%. Recommend this hospital and it’s staff. :) Wishing all a joyous pregnancy and safe delivery ! :)

Thank you for the Doctors and Nurse’s that been looking after me during my 4 days admission, special thanks to Ward 6. Dr’s understand how scared I was before the surgery and ensured me I’m on the safe hands. Nurses are very thorough, kind and helpful. They look after me and make sure I’m comfortable and with little pain as possible . I highly appreciate the level of care and sympathy given to me by the staff members . They all professional with their job, but they do with great compassion, kindness and sympathetic. I honor what what they do for us mothers. Thank you.

I was in hospital for a procedure from Wednesday to Friday I will commend all staff as they all are outstanding in their care. They all are very professional and lovely people. All staff were very caring, compassionate and knew their jobs. When I was wheeled into theatre I was wondering if it was theatre or a group of people in a holiday camp there were smiles everywhere in theatre and it took the horrible pressure I was being tormented by. It was great to be wheeled in to theatre and coming face to face with a very professional, caring and compassionate group of staff and the op they did on me was outstanding and painless and still is and no stinging to this day. I am so happy with the outcome of my surgery and the lovely care I received from all staff before, during and after my op. The whole hospital deserves certificates of the highest award possible.

2018 I had my first child. I had one amazing midwife. She was Scottish and forgive me I have forgotten your name. Almost four days of labour and many more in recovery and you are the only one that impacted my birth and recovery positively. The first midwife asked me about my pain relief plan and I told her I would like to avoid an epidural. Over a day later I wasn’t progressing at all. I had drugs and manual intervention during this time. I was exhausted and my pain was more than I could manage. I asked for the epidural and I was made to give consent multiple times and questioned as to why I wanted the pain relief. It was torture. After I finally received the epidural two days later I went through an extremely traumatic c-section where they removed my husband and I didn’t get to hold my baby for hours after. I was exhausted in recovery, receiving oxygen, a blood transfusion, I had a balloon inserted to stop the bleeding. My husband was so tearful when I came back to the room because no one updated him…all the midwife could say to me was(this was the same midwife that made me beg for pain relief) ‘you shouldn’t have gotten the epidural’. It made me feel like it was all my fault for my traumatic birth. I was so in and out of it for the next two two days. A battle axe of a nurse told me she was going to take my baby away because I was feeding her to much. My baby girl would scream and scream. As a first time mom I didn’t know she was simply hungry. No one offered me a bottle of formula, they just made it seem that a baby should scream all the time, that their lips should crack and bleed from dehydration, that they should suffer jaundice all in the name of breast milk. I was told it could be weeks before I could feed my baby because of how much blood I lost yet no one gave me options. I had to sign a waiver saying I was harming my baby by giving them formula. This was almost as traumatic as the fact that I almost died. If it wasn’t for the one kind midwife I would give this hospital negative stars.

As others have said I am sure this hospital has the greatest specialists and treatments available however I have found that unless you are dying you are not attended till until you are dying. They are woefully understaffed and mismanaged. MRI on the 12th June, follow up appointment on the 15th September. 4 months later. Now the MRI is too old to use. Need to go in for a new scan. 6-8 weeks for a scan. How can this be? By the time they get to my these results will be too old to use and I will have to go for a new scan again. Stuffed around by the phone all day long. They do not want to put you through to your specialists at any cost. It's been exhausting. Do not go here. Even for the birth of your child. Pick another place. Even the maternity has a very bad reputation. Prepare to have the minimal care given to you until you are critical.

The majority of midwives I dealt with were amazing and so caring. I am so grateful for everything they did for me and my baby. We had a great stay. Also, I can never thank Dr Brendan Jansen enough for the mental health services he provided to me after the birth of my baby. He is so kind, caring and gentle. He fully explained everything to me and ensured I understood about my diagnosis and the medication he recommend. I will never forget his help and am so grateful to have been in his care.

The midwives and doctors are absolutely amazing, very friendly and helpful, explaining things very clearly. I had a successful ECV at 36 weeks but ended up having an emergency C-section at 38 weeks after 18 hours in labour and then baby going into distress. The doctors were so amazing in every single thing they did and kept me so calm for the c-section as I was a nervous wreck. BUT the ladies at the east wing clinic reception are very stand-offish. I understand that they are very busy and probably deal with emotional pregnant women all day, but they were very unhelpful, not thorough with paperwork, and never smiled. I had to ask questions and clarify a lot of things they they should have just told me outright. Also, parking is a nightmare. KEMH is literally a hospital for pregnant women, a majority of which have been sent there for pregnancy complications. Having to drive a km down the road for parking and then having to trek all the way back is a joke. You better pray you go into labour in the middle of the night, or before 7am so you can get a bay, otherwise you might have your baby on the walk to the hospital from the car. I would love to have my next baby there if it was in a better location with better parking. The standard of care is great and the doctors and midwives are so kind and attentive.

Blood pressure machines broke when used on me, and most nurses would just keep trying despite it literally hurting and not working, only two nurses would take my blood pressure manually. I assumed it was me, but now being at Fiona Stanley for the same issues, there have been no problems with the machines. Every cannula that got put in fell out, and none of the doctors could successfully get a cannula in, eventually a nurse told me I was allowed to request anaesthetists so I did but the cannulas still fell out. I was very quick to assume it was me here as well, but again, at Fiona Stanley, the ED doctor managed to put a cannula in straight away with no issues and it’s stayed for 2 days so far. The doctors were lovely people, but I left King Eddies with a newfound fear of needles that I never had before, with bruises all up the entirety of both of my arms. Also one of the anaesthetists really sucked too. At one point a nurse connected the IV to me with a whole bunch of bubbles in it, nearly turned it on but then thankfully said “oh, I should probably get rid of those bubbles first” ????? so I was super nervous of all the nurses connecting the IV after that as well. Again, no nurse has done anything like that at FSH since being here and I actually feel safe. The food sucked, the room sucked, and the water tasted so bad that my husband brought water from home for me to drink. The nurses suggested cordial to take out the bad taste - it isn’t just me being picky or anything, it genuinely just tasted awful. “Old pipes” apparently. I left without being better as I just couldn’t do it any more. Thankfully some of the nurses were lovely, but that doesn’t make up for poor care. Hoping King Eddies shuts down or gets demolished soon, it’s definitely time for a revamp. I was absolutely dreading to go back to a hospital after my experience, but thankfully being at Fiona Stanley has been super healing and a way better experience. Hopefully this review can save someone else the trouble as I regret going to King Eddies so much and never will again.

Our midwife Courtney was a super star and Angel in disguise! Her coordinator Clair was bloody awesome as well. They gave my wife the VBAC birth she so desperately wanted after a traumatic birthing experience at Joondalup. They were very respectful and tentative and kept the doctors away just as we wished for. In saying that, we had a very thought through birth plan, knew what we wanted, what is possible, and we had an experienced doula at our side. It is a bit sad in this medical treatment is there to make money World we live in that you have to be super informed, fight, and hold your ground at all the appointments before birth. to get a natural birth that's not started off with intervention followed by more interventions before anything has gone wrong. Women have given birth for tenth of thousands of years, and in poorer countries still do give birth without doctors interfering and now they are not able to give birth without a doctor cutting them open, there is no other way. Don't get me wrong it's good to have a doctor there when things go sideways but not before. The less interventions the less goes sideways. Thanks for reading this far and go Courtney!

I was admitted into KEMH for a major surgery few weeks ago. The surgical team, led by Dr Harding , are extremely professional, experience and caring. The nursing staffs were also fantastic, caring and friendly. I felt so nurtured and well cared for thoughout my stay in Adult Special Care Unit and Ward 6. Thanks all for caring after me.

I went to King Eddies emergency department for an emergency bleeding in my 12 weeks pregnancy. We called earlier and told to come in straight away. That was around 8 pm at night and had to wait for over an hour, to be seen by the doctor, which we could understand as they dont have many doctors at that time of the night. Doctor was so nice to explain things she will do to check on my bleeding, however, the old midwive/nurse was very rude. They did a check which was very painful and this midwive/nurse was yelling at me to stop being tense the whole time i was in pain. (She could of told me in a nicer way) After the test, we would like to ask more question related to the issue and the midwive/nurse rudely interrupted the doctor and told us pretty much they dont know what happened until we get scanned (scan was not available in their ed at that time of the night, so we have to do it the next day elsewhere). She handed us the flyer which has information that you can basically find on google and rushes us to leave the place. Nice doctor.. no basic bedside manner nor emphaty from the midwive/nursing staff.

Emergency department of the hospital is a joke. No idea why it’s called an emergency — it’s laid back. Now I can see why patients are dying in your emergency departments while waiting. If you’re entering that dungeon, be prepared to spend whole day and your issue not resolved. It’s like everyone needs to confirm with someone else. And in the end of the day their doctor would say — it’s already late pm, this cannot be resolved today. Parking for patients non existent. But whole surrounding is covered by staff parking.

Update 30/9/2022 Today i had day surgery and wanted to express my thanks to a professional staff who were positive, kind and caring. From Mat the anesthetist to Em the gyn doctor to the half dozen nurses I saw (Donna, Sally etc etc) who made my visit so easy. So much bad publicity that you forget the 99% of gold standard treatment KEMH continues to provide for over half a century. First time back since my children were born almost 40 years ago and will recommend with assurance. 4 weeks previously Had not been to the hospital since I delivered my daughter 37 years ago. I attended the gyni clinic today and have the highest praise for Dr Will taking the time to train Dr Nicola in a procedure and the rest of the nursing team. I will be returning in a month with full confidence and thank everyone for their hard work.

I would like to take a minute to share my feedback about the service I have received for the past 2 days at KEMH. I was in Ed on Monday and Ed surgery yesterday. I have always got bad experiences with the medical department within Australia but I was so impressed with the services I received from the staffs of kemh (from the office staffs to the doctors) The nurses in Ed are fantastic even if you have to wait they always check on you and see whether you are OK and give you updates regularly. The doctors I had was Dr winnie and doctor Chloe who were both amazing. Dr Chloe tried her very best to get my surgery done the next day and she was talking to consultants even until 8pm. The next day I had surgery and the staff there great as usual. Always checking on me. In the theatre room every single staffs were so caring from the nurses to the anesthesis. Post op staffs were great. I really don't know what else to say. I am forever grateful to all the staffs of King Edward memorial hospital and I owe them my life.

From the start of my process to the end was not a good experience. Unsure whether they are short staffed but so not good!. My paperwork was sent by my Doctor who then had confirmation they had received it. I then waited weeks without hearing anything to find they had cancelled me off their system. Once they added me back on I waited weeks for the letter to confirm my appointment only to read it was by phone. So then I waited weeks for the phone call at 0840 . Organised with my boss at work to take the call which didnt come until 1025, so I missed it. I rang to reschedule to find out I need to go through the process again and wait for the letter!! Three months in the waiting, this is really not good enough. I have now made a booking with a private Doctor who specialises in Menopause.

The tour at WA Medical Museum in Harvey House located in King Edward Memorial Hospital was not only excellent but bought back a few memories especially visiting the dentist or having an X-ray. The old lead jacket argh there are loads of early medical artefacts and equipment. Very intrigue when the tour guide turned on the iron lung machine used for polio patients. Definitely a must see

Disappointment after disappointment. The older midwives are horrible, Extremely rude and clearly have no passion or compassion left. So many things to complain about including the WA health care system which is a joke. This was my first pregnancy and after my whole experience, and it has 100% put me off having any more.

My wife underwent a procedure today, and could not believe how wonderful everyone was. Incredible level of skill mixed with tremendous care and concern. In particular though, we were really lucky to be assigned to Desiree “Des” in day surgery. She didn’t have to do it but when she realised that my wife was struggling a bit to relax, she guided her through some deep breathing exercises and got her to feel so relaxed and comfortable. Complete game changer, thanks Des! ❤️

My partner went in for an operation. They placed the cannula in the wrong spot on her wrist and instead of hitting a vein the pumped anti nausea meds and all sorts straight into her muscle. She now has over 30cm worth of blood clots and is looking to be on meds for up to 6months but who knows. There has been hardly any follow up from them no accountability and no care whatsoever. My partner cannot work now and is in constant pain. I thoroughly reccomend staying away from this hospital as it reeks of incompetence and accountability for there actions.

Been here a couple days for complications and truely wouldn't have asked for any better help, advice, information and food. The staff from doctors, specialists, midwives, phisio, pharmacy, chefs, clerks, coffee ladies they are all so amazing and so nice. I've had a say in my treatment since day 1 and been informed about what's happening and what can come from NICU drs. I truely can't be more happy with all the staff and attention to detail.

Had my c-section here and I felt soooo supported by everyone who was involved. I had to change hospitals during the last few weeks of my pregnancy due to moving to a different area and I could see how different the care I got was. The midwives were great and the final doctor I saw made sure she addressed all our worries as we were having a slightly larger bub. I had the best team do my surgery. The anesthetic team 👏🏼especially made sure I was comfortable as possible and made the whole time in there fun as possible to ease me. The amount of anxiety I had when I went in and how I was feeling few minutes later was totally different. I had one of the anaesthetic doctor stand beside me and my partner, updating us throughout the surgery. The nurses who looked after us after the surgery was also really friendly and made sure they attended asap even between their busiest times. I was concerned that my partner couldn’t stay overnight as I was not able to move around much the first night after the c-section but the night shift nurses were very supportive. The whole experience with KEMH was just amazing, couldn’t thank the team enough. 😊

Was transferred to KEMH after I gave birth to my first son in 2015 (complicated birth at OPH, lots of blood loss, and had infection both bub and I). 6 days in the public ward, which was more of a private room, and I cannot fault the staff that cared for us. 2 years later and got shifted again to KEMH at 39 weeks (from OPH)! I had major anxiety issues because of that. The midwives and the overall birthing experience were absolutely amazing! I was very relaxed at labour and was still laughing with the midwives at 8cm dilation. There was also a student midwife present and I'm pretty sure she'd be a fantastic midwife as well! Oh, and the meals were great, too! (I stayed in the hospital for less than 24 hours on this birth.)

I had elective gyne surgery & the hospital, medical & nursing staff were just fantastic! My appointments were speedy & everything was so well organised! I had an anaphylactic reaction to the anaesthetic in surgery so instead of being in for just a few hours I had to spend 24 in their HDU! They made me feel so safe & secure and the follow up making sure Sir Charles Gairdner hospital to find out what had given me the reaction went above & beyond! Wish I could give them 10 stars not just 5!!!

This is really prestige and good hospital. I have had a few scans and tests and went to ED once for bleeding excessively in the middle of the night. The RNs were attentive and informative. The ED doctor was empathetic and very professional in treating me. I think one of reason to live in Perth is because of the existence of King Edward Hospital. You just don’t know how lucky you’ve got. Thanks so much to everyone from the reception to the health care workers and kitchen and allied health. You are amazing people! ❤️👍😊👶🏻👍🤰🤱🍼🥇🏆🎖🚑

1 start for the Emergency department. I went there coz I was spotting but they didn’t bother checking me. However, one good thing they did was that they booked me for a next day ultrasound. 5 start and beyond for the doctors and nurses. Dr Sebastian did my ultrasound. My baby didn’t have the heartbeat. But the staff was compassionate and very humble. Thank you Dr Sebastian and Nurse Nicole. Later that day I was moved to get operated, I cannot thank the doctor and the nurses who were there for me. It’s extremely busy but they all made sure every patient was looked after. Thank you!

I had cancer a few years ago and the staff were amazing ,with the exception of a nurse that called herself Cath. She was a complete moron and even had to be reported. The worst thing was when I was fresh from surgery and couldnt move and her behaviour was deplorable. I appreciate the staff and surgeons very much and my life was saved. But stupid people like Cath should NOT be allowed to run riot.

Went to emergency due to unbearable pain from my endometriosis. Doctor didn't do any ultrasound and only pressed my tummy for a bit then sent me home because I can still walk and havnt die yet. Because of that I had to wait months to see a specialist and it turned out i was in a pretty bad situation had to cut my ovary tube off. I am not sure what's the emergency department for if you turn us away when we are in deep pain. Might possibly able to save my ovary tube if I got treated properly when I was at your emergency.

I was admitted to King Edward for a radical hysterectomy. I was treated from the get go with the utmost respect. My surgical team were absolutely amazing. Dr Mohan not only puts you at ease but also your partner. My nurses that took care of me, thank you ladies. I encountered many of you and from each of you I received brilliant care and I enjoyed the laughter and smiles I received while healing. I was thankful to have my own room, bathroom and privacy. This makes for a comfortable recovery also. From the medical staff, the cooks and the cleaners I was treated with the utmost respect. I am giving 5 star review because of two amazing midwives who did my induction on 20th july 2020 and delivery on 21st.The beautiful and gorgeous young Erinlee and such a warm hearted beautiful soul Jen. They both did exceptional job in getting me deliver my beautiful baby boy. They made the whole process so comfortable and easy and made my first time delivery experience to next level. Both were very well experienced and has great knowledge of their work. They make the delivery experience as i was not delivering in hospital but in a temple. Jen used amazing essential oils to calm the environment and talk to me and cared me as my mother would do. Erinlee the beautiful girl was doing her job amazingly, very friendly and always smiling that you need in that stressful time. I want king Edward to know and let Erinlee and Jen know how amazing they are who take their job so incredibly. Amandeep (Amy)

Staff are amazing and friendly but the hospital does not prioritise it bookings. Appointment for 1015 turned up at 1010 5 minutes early for paperwork and everything else they requested and then was made wait 2 and a half hours with noone asking if we had been seen and had to approach staff ourself to be told it would take 15 minutes for them to work out how long before we would be seen and then after a 15 minute wait were told it would be a minimum 30 minutes more before we would be even seen for out 1015 appointment.145 and still waiting to be seen to. Not at all acceptable for a young family with a 4 yr old and a pregnant person and someone who has to work to be mucked around for such a long time. And no understanding by any staff they believed it is perfectly normal for these sort of practises.

I wanted to thank midwives, sonographer and doctors. I had my baby in king Eddie on Aug 2022 and they looked after me like a family. Special thanks to Michelle Davis (not sure whether the last name was correct), she was an angel. She comforted me, kept her words and took care of me until my designated midwife arrived. She even came and said hello to me after I delivered the baby. We need more midwife like her especially to someone who has no family in Australia and delivering the first baby. I still cannot forget about her kindness. Also the sonographer- Michelle, she was wonderful. She held my hand when I cried and offered to take me to the level one to see a doctor and book for an emergency appointment. When I was delivering my baby, my midwife - Mel was helping me a lot. She encouraged me and cheered me up. She was professional. The doctors were great too. They were friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend King Eddie and wanted to thank again to the beautiful people - doctors, midwives and sonogaphers.

This is just my opinion based on my personal experience: I am dreading to give birth here... The first red flag arose when I had a telehealth consultation a few months ago. Despite it being the first available appointment at 8am, the midwife was 45 minutes late and the doctor who was supposed to call me after that appointment was also 30+ minutes late. The second was when I had an upcoming 28 week in-person appointment but needed to reschedule as my husband tested positive for Covid days before hand. I was told that I didn't need to reschedule and to arrive as planned, despite being a close contact. I showed up early to get my RAT test performed and was told by staff that I "shouldn't even be leaving the house" because I "might have Covid." They proceeded to call the ultrasound department regarding my appointment, for which they were adamant didn't even exist - despite me holding a letter from them with the current appointment time and date being highlighted by them - almost like it was very important that I understood to be there at this date at this time! I was never administered a RAT test and refused entry on this day. I received a phone call 5 hours later from a doctor asking me why I missed my appointments... The third was when this doctor booked my appointments for the next week and proceeded to call me back to say they've decided to book the appointments on two seperate days, two weeks from that date because I "might have Covid next week." I told the doctor that I'm not showing up on two different days because I literally cannot afford to miss work, spend money on the fuel required drive back and forth and be expected to pay for parking (and probably a parking fine too, considering how consistently late the doctors are) and was then told by this doctor "well, we really can't do anything about that. Maybe you can take an Uber?" The fourth, at 30 weeks. My ultrasound appointment went smoothly (apart from the technician spending 45 minutes trying to track down the password to gain access to a seperate health establishment's portal) and by a stroke of luck, I could actually make it to the in-person consultation the following day. I was left waiting for 1.5 hours in the East Wing Clinic. The doctor checked my blood pressure, weight and urine, then told me to go home. Why was I required to be seen by a doctor and not a midwife? No idea. Why couldn't these measurements be taken by a nurse or midwife while I was waiting? No idea. Why couldn't these measurements be taken while I was there the day before and have a follow up telehealth appointment instead? Why was I required to show up in-person at all, especially considering that "they care about women's health" and want pregnant women to avoid catching Covid at all cost? This is my first pregnancy; I am suffering from antenatal depression and anxiety - obviously no medical personnel at KEMH is aware of this because they haven't asked me or paid attention to any symptoms I am exhibiting. I am low income but do not qualify for any government assistance. I was not asked about my diet and exercise, any drug/alcohol/domestic violence issues, birthing plans or concerns, upcoming vaccines, etc. I am totally clueless about how/where I will be giving birth and what my options are, who my midwife(s) are, what I need to bring when I go into labor, what the signs of labor are, etc. Any information I need about pregnancy, I have to search the internet for and it might not be applicable to me as an individual or as an Australian. I consider myself to be a patient, responsible and intelligent person and I genuinely feel sorry for other women that may have disabilities/difficulties and less resources than me. I have access to transport and a personal support network, yet every experience I have had with this hospital has driven me to my breaking point. I am personally not expecting to show up for any future appointments because the stress just isn't worth it. This hospital is unorganised and chaotic. They do not care about your time, financial, physical or mental wellbeing.

Had my antenatal appointments and baby’s birth at the family birth centre. The midwife and other staff were lovely - I had the same midwife at all antenatal and postnatal appointments and the birth. The rooms and facilities at the Family Birth Centre were really great. I had to be transferred to the main hospital after the birth and apart from the discomfort and inconvenience of having to have surgery in the middle of the night (due to the timing of my baby’s birth) it was fine, although I did have to wait for a couple of hours for my turn. The hospital labour room I was put in was somewhat cramped but I found the ward room to be spacious and comfortable, and I enjoyed my time on the ward during my recovery.

  • 1/5 Girl P. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely need more parking!!! When 38 weeks pregnant the last thing you want to do is walk from 3-4 streets away to the hospital on your own. Wait times are ridiculous and they're extremely unorganised. Need more options for rats tests and not just nasal. Not everyone can use nasal and some need to do saliva test instead. Doctor booked me an ultrasound, then had no communication to say when it was booked for till the day of the ultrasound, I couldn't make it on such late notice. Went in for my next appointment, waited 2 hours to be seen to for 10 mins and told I needed to have my ultrasound done for that appointment and to come back in a weeks time. Waited over a week later to have my ultrasound but once again not told when it was. Called up as I still hadn't received any notification to say when my ultrasound was booked for. It was booked on the same day as my next hospital appointment, instead of before so they could be more organised. Ultrasound was needed to know the possible complications of giving birth as I had a late Gestational Diabetes diagnosis but I could have given birth before my ultrasound even had chance to be done.

First of all, first of all, the hospital rooms need to be developed in order for the woman to rest in the room, especially for women who underwent a caesarean section. They have all the means of comfort, the beds are uncomfortable, the bathrooms are very old, and the sewers sound like horror movies at night. I had a caesarean section and the midwife came told me to go wash the bottle in the kitchen, and she was harsh with me, but indirect, and she was harsh with my child also, and I was in a state of tension because of her, I was asking her for some necessary things, but she did not meet my request she ignored me. The midwife's name was Step, I think she was a racist who had no human mercy for a patient who suffered in childbirth and almost died and underwent a cesarean section to save her and the baby from death.

After living in Australia for a month, I discovered that I had a high-grade lesion in the cervix. They admitted me for surgery and told me that there was a 3-month waiting list, which I agreed to. A week after receiving the results, I They called me to operate the next day for which I feel very grateful. It has been the best hospital experience I have had in my life, everyone treated me very well, super professionals, without a doubt the best hospital, thank you very much.

The treatment I received here was enough to put me off ever giving birth in WA again. I still am in shock at how horrible the wait times are for the routine midwife appointments, before each appointment i recieved texts saying to prepare for a couple hours delay , i have literally waited 4 hours just to be seen by the first doctor and then he said to wait again for the midwife which took another hour. I dont understand why they tell you to turn up on time when you have to wait that long to be seen. 2 weeks before my due date i was told to go upstairs and wait in a chair for someone to check on my babys movement which made me nervous so i went up , they put me in the chair strapped me up and i was told that they would come back to check on me, a woman came in twice over the first3 hours looked at the monitor and walked out .. in total i waited 7hours in that chair, then because I noticed every other patient in that room had left i got up and went looking for someone, I noticed a group of nurses/midwives giggling and talking away amongst themselves in their little room , as soon as one of them saw me she said something to an older midwife who I think had just started her shift thankfully came in and checked on me and told me I could go home (she was annoyed at the other staff when I told her I had been there for 7 hours ere. also During every midwife appointment I had during my pregnancy I expressed that I want an epidural during labour, the young midwife I received when I went into labour (don't remember her name because we didn't really talk) stalled or ignored me , literally walked around the room and didn't reply when I was asking for the epidural. I was in so much pain and she wouldn't call the guy to come in and do it . I kept asking her if she called him in yet and she wouldn't reply. Then after 4and a half hours I told her the baby was coming out & I needed to push , she told me no and that i was only 4cm dilated. I've had 3 children so I know when I'm ready to push, she kept telling me no so i asked for a different midwife, she had another midwife come in , rolled her eyes then told her "she wants to push but shes only 4cm" the other midwife took a look and said "no she's 9" honestly the most traumatic birth and I would recommend if you are pregnant literally go ANYWHERE else

Horrible waiting time for emergencies. No explanation is given, I have been here bleeding and waiting for 2hours , there is no line or anyone else waiting and even though it seems they cannot see one person from ED during this time. Also no explanation is given and lack of caring from midwife when first seen was disappointing. I’ve heard about the health system issue in WA before but it’s always scaring to see it first hand.

I'm very thankful and grateful to all the staff of KEMH, especially to the team who have done my surgery last July 19 and August. 30. They are not also doing their job but they have the compassion in their patient..that's I cannot forget..from the start of the procedure to the theatre room to the ward, I felt that all the staff is really caring even one of the doctor holding my hand before surgery that made all the my nervous is gone because they will feel you that your safe ..I cannot find the words how happy I am. THANKS to all the Doctors and nurses and support worker.
