Overall experience with Indian Ocean Hotel was truly disappointing. Firstly, the hotel looks run down and it is not the same as it looks in the photos. The rooms were old and cold because the heater is not working properly during the winter season. It was such an uncomfortable 4 nights stay at this hotel. On the second night around 3 am, there was this weird loud noise coming from the bathroom’s ceiling. We were awakened by the continuous noise and had no choice but to go to the lobby middle of the night to report on this matter. Our neighbors were awake too and everyone on our floor was wondering where did the noise comes from. It was from the heater. Very terrible experience and stay.

Really Noisy and old! I booked last minute with my daughter and we booked with the pool and ocean view. It is VERY noisy! Before you book check when they have a party as my daughter cannot sleep with the music blaring and noise from the party. (If there is a party you have to wait until midnight) The crowd is very young so a lot of banging, noise and drunkenness from neighbours beside you and above you. Location is ok The rooms are very very old! Hardly any plugs to charge things and internet is really touch and go. This place is more suitable for party goers and not for family at all.

I lived in Perth 35 years ago and I recall seeing bands here back then. I am in town visiting family and friends and had no real expectations when I booked here. It's a distinctive hotel - retro style rooms that remind me of growing up in Perth. Spotlessly clean. The staff are warm and friendly, and went out of their way to be helpful. They cautioned me about loud live music but I really didn't notice it. The location is very convenient, the price is very reasonable. This is clearly a well managed place and I look forward to returning.

Great live venue, nice and intimate but feels so spacious with the rooms opening up to the pool. Great sound and easy to get to the bar, wish they served the toasties later into the evening! Security seemed a little overzealous, I didn't have issues but people were getting kicked out left, right and centre for reasons no one could understand, and then let back in again? Toilet doors are dope too. Old skool Scabs memories 🤘🤘🤘

Very dated hotel. Nice if you like Retro. Everything was sparkling clean and smelt nice though, so don't let the need for reno put you off. Good price, nice staff, and excellent location. Pub is good too

Awesome little room overlooking the pool area. Definitely not for older couples on the weekends as the atmosphere outside is similar to spring break but if that's what you're there for...then it lives up to the hype.

Such an eclectic mix of spaces from heavy metal stage area, undercover outdoor dining, poolside bungalow feel and motel on a grassy knoll. All this in the one quadrangle. Oops forgot the pool room. Friendly staff to boot. Loved it.

Don’t book this hotel on a weekend if you value sleep - especially on the ground floor! Firstly, the staff are AMAZING. Really friendly, very informative, and super helpful. The staff were honestly great. Unfortunately, we booked this hotel during a mini-festival hosted in the hotel’s car park (parking was extremely limited but we got a spot). Although we didn’t go to the festival, the noise was loud. Thankfully, the festival ended around 10pm, but then the in-house bar carries the music on until midnight… every night. We were told about the festival only upon checking in. We booked through a third-party and not the hotel itself, so we weren’t notified about the festival until we got there. If you’re on the ground floor, be prepared for a sleepless night. The bar’s music is loud and there’s no getting away from it, and it goes on until midnight at least. Guests also aren’t overly quiet when in reception, which meant we had to hear loud conversations, slamming doors, and running up and down well into the night - but that’s not necessarily the hotel’s fault. The decor is interesting, very 70s which is fine - but it could do with a good clean. To be honest, the decor itself is unique and fine - it’s the lack of bedside tables and outlets that’s somewhat cumbersome - there aren’t many places to charge your devices without unplugging the fridge etc. The walls are also super thin, so you can hear most what other guests are doing. The door’s locking mechanism also isn’t overly secure - so if you’re a nervous sleeper, bring extra security if you want. The location is great for the beach.

Stayed here a good few times. One receptionist has been extremely helpful welcoming and friendly. Another who recognised me still refused to give a drink token as I hadn’t booked online a made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. If your not hospitable Maybe don’t work in hospitality. Rooms are very overpriced as I was booking one day at a time but would have expected a deal price considering I have stayed 10 nights in the past 2 months

Was having a great time here, sat by the pool having a few pints. All of a sudden bouncer comes up to us saying we'd have to leave in 5 minutes as we were wearing thongs and it's a licensed venue and the live music is starting. We'd just bought a full round and had no idea. Bouncer (the tall one with moustache) was pretty rude, just said 5 minutes and we're gone. Bit of a shame as it's a nice bar with a cool vibe, but how can you be a beach side venue with a swimming pool and kick out people wearing thongs who've been drinking there all day?

Have never booked a hotel room, however I am a local who comes to Toast Face Grillah every Sunday. The vibes are amazing, we get our orders and go play pool! They bring us our orders and the staff are literally the chillest people ever ! Always having a joke and always in a good mood ! Highly recommend checking it out !

I went for the Sunday session pool party and it was pretty awesome. Great vibes, good music. Bloody Mary for 12$! Cheap cans of beer and great place to suntan or enjoy a swim.

Short visit to Perth. This place looks like it would be bouncing at weekends. I stayed Monday to Thursday and was quiet. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Decor was Interesting as was history of hotels guests. Scarborough outdoor pool was five minute walk away as was beautiful beach. Reception staff were always attentive and Lovely.

Pack your earplugs. An affordable alternative to Raddison across the road but still close to amazing Scarborough Beach, pubs and cafes. Plenty of hire scooters on the beach But, I was not informed there was a pub downstairs , nor that it had live bands Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays till 10.30 11 pm . Now, this didn't affect me as I was upgraded to level 4 and I sleep with industrial ear plugs anyway. But be prepared. Apart from that, the noise from other rooms was almost non existent.

The rooms are clean and staff are nice. There is some amenities lacking like no hanging space in the family suite, no hair dryer and only soap provided in the bathroom. Also there is a very limited menu on site and no room service as such anymore.

Staff were excellent but this is an old hotel. Bathroom was awful with stained sink and leaky small shower. Couldn’t even sit upright on the toilet due to the cramped room and lid sticking out at an angle. TV was really difficult to negotiate and movie channel hard to access without clear instructions available.

  • 2/5 shirley s. 4 months ago on Google
The hotel is old, the bathroom we had was old and small and there was mould in the ceiling. The pictures online made it look much better than what it was in real life. No room service and very small fridge. The TV was hard to navigate and could not find movie channel, also older TLC model TV. It’s an inexpensive hotel so if all you want is a place to stay then it does the job. It is close to the beach and lots of restaurants close by. The reception staff were kind and helpful and did their jobs well though. I rate it too for the structure, small bathroom and there were people making so much noise at 0130am, ruined the night and didn’t want to go complaining downstairs at that time as my son was also sick.

first choice of places to stay in Perth. Location location location. Great breakfast food downstairs, pub at night, walk to beach for another coffee. Rooms have that crisp feel. Decor takes me back to my youth. Great adjoining rooms if you are there with Family.

Great retro style hotel. Clean with large rooms. Excelent value for money. Good pool. Great funky live music venue to the side. We will definitely stay there again

The place in general, was very clean and well maintained and exceeded my expectations, the pool area was meticulously maintained and cleaned, apart from natural age the place has weathered very well. Much better than any place I've stayed at in a while and I was impressed at the simplicity but attention to detail.

Was ok - just a place to stay really. Spa was excellent but felt weird having to walk through bar area to get to the spa/pool areas. I didn't like that I had to keep approaching reception for cutlery/plates etc - I have a special needs daughter who doesn't like me speaking on phones so I had to try bring her with me everytime I needed something. Was very inconvenient. Plus the $200 holding fee was a bit steep - I think I usually pay $100 holding fee.

Nice at first . Do not become a local . Toxic old alcoholic sociopaths, lol . But I guess that's just pubs. God bless selling that legal drug 🙏.

From our initial greeting by the welcoming friendly staff, our impromptu stay was with a small family. This venue may not be suitable for every family as it was also a live music venue and we didn't choose to use the pool while the adults pool party was underway, however the kids still loved the place and.thiuggt it was groovy and had a morning swim. The place in general, was very clean and well maintained and exceeded my expectations, the pool area was meticulously maintained and cleaned, apart from natural age the place has weathered very well. Much better than any place I've stayed at in a while and I was impressed at the simplicity but attention to detail. The experience was made more enjoyable by the staff interaction and if was quite personal, rather than being just another number. Hands down would go again with friends if the opportunity arose.

It was quite surreal staying at the IOH. The decor hasn't been changed in decades so it felt like stepping back in time (or walking on to the set of a B grade horror movie... not necessarily a bad thing). The IOH offers a simple service: rooms for a very reasonable price. It's only a short walk away from the Esplanade so you can't fault the location. The staff were friendly and helpful enough. The walls between adjoining rooms are paper-thin. You can hear everything going on in the room next to you. Everything. Every. Thing. EDIT NOTE: To date I am yet to get back the $200 bond I paid. I was told this would happen within 7 working days after our stay. We're well passed that now.

The Indian Ocean Hotel is very well placed, a few minutes walking distance from the nightlife of Scarborough, It also has a great pub downstairs with usually a great band and the food is not bad. Great place for Sporty type people to hang out. we surely did have a great time here. :)

Had a sat night stay as I was doing a job in Scarborough so was a last minute booking , stayed a few times so knew the rooms , booked online with the hotel direct as you get two feee drinks at the bar , checked in and had a good laugh with the girls at reception due to my sting Scottish accent lol , quick shower down to the bar had our deee drink walked over to the food vans next to the beach had a bite to eat , then a few bars for a few drinks , good vibes and good music , got an Uber back to the hotel had a few more beers listening to the Brazilian band place was buzzing , so had a great night and a good sleep

Absolutely outstanding location. The location caters for all, singles, couples, families or groups of friends whether you are having a staycation or travelling, you are at the right place! Everything is within walking distance petrol stations/supermarket/hairdresser/barber/restaurants/bars/cafes/beaches including the bottle shop being at your door step along with the White Sands Tavern. There is ample parking including some secure bays. The staff are friendly and so welcoming and have always been so accommodating! Reception is 24hours and there is a small selection of beverages and sweets you can purchase as well as merchandise which is priced affordably. There are no stairs upon entering the building and there is a lift as well as stairs to access each floor. The rooms are large, clean and some upgrades have begun including the bathrooms and smart TVs. Wifi is free! There is a pool with pool access rooms available. Overall, this hotel and the fantastic staff, provide affordable & convenient accommodation ensuring it has something for everyone in the heart of Scarborough!

Not at all how it was advertised. Really seedy 70’s aesthetic plus so noisy from the gig downstairs it was impossible to drown the sound out or sleep. Would suit people under 30 yrs who want a big night at the pub. Felt unsafe as a lone woman staying. Super overpriced for what you get.

I didn't stay there but went into the bar on Tuesday 18th January, it was 40c and no airconditioner on, doors to the pool open and flies coming in to the bar. Very uncomfortable conditions to try and enjoy a cold drink. The glasses are not kept in the fridge so a cold drink turned warm very quickly. I had to ask for a cloth to wipe the dirty table, no coasters available so tables get wet. The single fin beer $12.50 for a pint over priced. I cannot recommend this bar.

First didn't get jug water in the room. Ph about 7 30pm ask if we can have water were told no room service had to go to bar to get water. Wicked beach party not happy about the $30 entry fee but grabbed sone takeaways and hir the beach we had our own beach party 4 people 120 I don't think so we preferred 80 at the bottle shop 100 metres to the beach and 94.5fm on the radio 😀

To say this was a let down, I’d be under exaggerating, it was woeful. Pictures are very misleading, pillows are harder than rapid set concrete and balcony door did not shut. Will never and I repeat never stay again.

  • 1/5 Chaz P. 2 years ago on Google
The photos make this place look 10x better then it really is. The pillows are shocking and now need a neck brace, the air con in the room barely worked, overall terrible hotel wouldn’t recommend to a homeless person

This “hotel” is an absolute disgrace. “Scott” the doorman doing the tickets was too busy chatting bs to one of his mates instead of selling me a ticket, stood in the hallway for a good 10m and one of the security ended up letting me in. Ended up complaining to the staff (brunette girl with tan skin) for them to backfire on me, rudely telling me I’m wrong and that Scott is doing a fine job. If looks could kill, I’d be dead. Never in my life have I had an employee of an establishment tell me ( the customer) I’m wrong when clearly there’s people whose not doing there job and I’m rightfully complaining. 1/10 go somewhere else and spend your money. MANAGER/s GET NEW STAFF OTHERWISE YOUR ESTABLISHMENT WILL CONTINUE TO FAIL.

Good grief, what an awful place to stay! I booked here because I'm moving overseas, and needed somewhere to sleep close to my house while the house was being packed up. I've stayed in some bad hotels, but this one is really bad! The walls are paper thin, so you hear everybody! The wi-fi is slower than dial up so don't even think about watching a movie on Netflix! And there's only one accessible powerpoint in the whole room to charge electronics. The room can have up to three occupants! Can you imagine three people each needing to charge their phones and tablets. They say the like to keep the hotel as true to its original 1970s look as possible, which basically means they haven't modernised it at all. You can modernise and remain true to the design! I have one more night booked in here, but if it's as noisy as it is tonight, I think I'll book somewhere else.

  • 3/5 Rochelle R. 1 year ago on Google
Very outdated, especially for the price. No power outlets above ground level, so charging my phone was difficult. Hotel also has a limit to what alcohol you can have in your private room, which I found inconvenient. They should advertise that.

Although not as pretty as some and a little worn we loved this place. Close to the beach, comfy bed, hot shower and microwave and toaster if you ask.The ladies in reception were lovely super helpful always greeted us with smiling faces. Highly recommend

If i could rate this place 0 i would. I booked 2 weeks in advance so me and my boyfriend could stay here ( me 18 him 17) i booked under my name and it said online that the person who was booking had to be 18 and had to show id. Me and my boyfriend drove 2 hours just to get there for the woman to tell us we can’t stay here because he’s 17 and that he needs an official letter from his parents to say he can stay here even tho i am an adult and had my id with me. The woman telling us this didn’t give a care in a world and said “ you can stay here but he can not” she was the most condescending person i have ever met. Please train your staff on how to communicate with customers! SUCH AN INCONVENIENCE.

Bought tickets to a gig here spent over $100 on tickets for multiple people. No set times were posted what so ever. Called up to ask about the set times the lady on the phone Rhiannon was flat out rude as and told me they were currently playing and no idea when they started or finished and couldn't be bothered helping me cause she had 'customers to serve' then literally hung up on me... How's that for customer service!

Indian Ocean is an older hotel smack bang in the middle of Scarbs. It's not amazing, it's not new and it's got an old hotel smell of bleach. All that aside as an overnighter it's cheap, clean and perfectly functional as somewhere to crash. With Toastface Grillah in the same building it's also perfectly equipped to handle a hangover. If I'm going to events near Scarbs again I'd definitely go here again, may even see what live bands they have going as well.

Security goons selectively enforcing rules is the kinda behaviour I expect in Northbridge, and why I don't go out there too often. Sorry Andy this is the last time I'll be supporting Extended Play at Indi Bar. I'd rather spend my money at businesses that share the feeling of inclusivity that pdnb promotes itself as having. See you at the next gig somewhere else...

The Indian Ocean Hotel has been our home away from home for the last 6 months so we could take our daughter to her state team commitments. Rooms are clean and comfortable, beds are great, it’s not the ritz but for the price it’s well worth it. And coffee down stairs is great. Staff are amazing. Thanks for all your help over the last few months. Location is perfect for a Perth getaway.

I always enjoy staying at the Indian Ocean hotel. I think the rooms are starting to look a little tired but it’s still great value. I booked direct and received two drinks vouchers which was great, however, I tried to redeem them in the evening but the connecting door from the accommodation to the bar was closed. I was told I would need to use the front entrance. I thought, no problem but when I got outside, there was a line of 20 people. I didn’t go in. Somewhat disappointing

It is an old, but decent and budget hotel. Less than 10 min walk to the Scarborough Beach and the bus stops. Many nice restaurants along the beach. Staff are helpful. There is a bar on the ground floor and has live music and events. Many people queuing up on Friday night. As my room is on the third floor, so I can hear no noise from my room. It is a good one if you are looking for a budget hotel and only need a comfortable bed after long travel.
