Cheranalloor Sri Mahadeva Temple near to the banks of the river Periyar. An ancient Temple with a remarkable history. It was another holy place to step foot into. We believe that "The presiding deity Lord Mahadev have powers to free one from any kind of debts and is acclaimed as "RUNAMOCHAKA." Temple was under some renovation works and now completed successfully and now temple premises is very well organized and managed. No nuisance of touts. In Hindu Mythology the number 108 is considered as very holy ; this temple comes under the 108 shiva temples in kerala. Once you visit, Definitely you will feel the positive vibe. I wish you all to be blessed indeed to get a glimpse of the lord shiva... "Hara Hara Mahadev.."

Powerful temple. Must visit. Temple is going through a renovation and has one of the most difficult restoration works to be carried out by highly skilled craftsman. Worth a visit to see and even a small contribution can script your name in getting back the temple to life.

The Cheranalloor Mahadeva Temple is one of the important temples in Cochin Kingdom. According to folklore, sage Parashurama has installed the idol of Shiva in the Treta Yuga. The temple is a part of the 108 Shiva Temples in Kerala.

A serene, beautiful spacious Siva shrine. Another testimony to the enthralling Kerala temple architecture. As soon as one steps into the courtyard, one can feel the positivity of the idol and shrine. The temple is being renovated. Hope it restores the temple to its old glory and charm. Renovation work affects the temple timings. So, please check before you intend to worship. The staff are well-behaved. The Pujaris take time and effort to conduct rituals, which reflects in the positivity of the place. Public transport access is limited. However, one can drive to the temple from Ernakulam/Kochi in an hour. Car parking space is limited. However, that should not bother a person, as the temple is hardly crowded. Carry adequate water and snacks. There are no eateries around.

The temple is dedicated to Shiva in the main Sanctum Sanctorum facing east. The main shrine, which has been built in circular shape, is a beautiful in Kerala-Dravidian architecture style. In the eastern porch, the namaskara mandapom has been built in a square shaped structure. The size of the nalambalam is remarkable and the adjacent thidappalli have been rebuilt. The temple of Cheranelloor is constructed of great craftsmanship in architecture and we can see a rare collection of architecture as well. In ancient times, the Cheranelloor Mahadeva temple had extensive land holdings and was in receipt of approximately 24 tons of paddy (24 thousands hector land) a year. Consequent to agrarian reforms the temple lost all the land except a couple of acres in which the temple is situated.

Temple looks much like Vaikkom Siva Temple. Well maintained and provides harmony with nature. Not much crowded. Best place for Vedic Chants and prayers. The Mahéśwara listens to us and responds. Definitely a shrine to vist. The Archaka is very simple and devoted to the service of the Lord Parama Śiva... !
