One of the finest heritage properties of Indian Railways, Chennai Central has a history that is as old as Indian Railways. Any connoisseur would love to roam around the station and it’s precincts to enjoy the glimpses of the imperial era Madras. The Indo-Romanesque structure forms the scape of finest heritage buildings of the city. The station is very well maintained and kudos to the cleaning staff who ensure that the platforms are always kept nice and clean.

Good station. Lots of eateries present here. Good seating arrangement, in case you want to rest and wait for trains. Good security and trains seem to be on time. It gets crowded sometimes. Most trains are available here though. Atms and water facility is also present. Metro station is located nearby.

The century-old building of the railway station, designed by architect George Harding, is one of the most prominent landmarks of Chennai. The station is also a main hub for the Chennai Suburban Railway system. It lies adjacent to the current headquarters of the Southern Railway and the Ripon Building. During the British Raj, the station served as the gateway to South India, and the station is still used as a landmark for the city and the state. The station was renamed twice; first to reflect the name change of the city from Madras to Chennai in 1996 it was renamed from Madras Central to Chennai Central, and then to honor the founder of AIADMK and the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. G. Ramachandran it was renamed as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central railway station on 5 April 2019. About 550,000 passengers use the terminus every day, making it the busiest railway station in South India.Along with Chennai Egmore and Coimbatore Junction, the Central terminus is among the most profitable stations of Southern Railways. As per a report published in 2007 by the Indian Railways, Chennai Central and Secunderabad were awarded 183 points out of a maximum of 300 for cleanliness, the highest in the country.

Chennai Central Railway Station stands as a historic landmark and vital transportation hub in the heart of the city. Renowned for its architectural grandeur and extensive amenities, it serves as a crucial link for both local commuters and long-distance travelers. However, despite its significance, cleanliness remains an area requiring urgent attention. Despite its rich history, extensive amenities, and pivotal role in the city's transportation network, Chennai Central Railway Station faces challenges regarding cleanliness. While it remains a bustling hub of activity, efforts must be directed towards enhancing cleanliness standards to ensure a pleasant experience for all travelers and visitors. This review aims to capture the essence of Chennai Central Railway Station while addressing the critical need for cleanliness improvements, advocating for positive change in maintaining this iconic landmark.

One of oldest railway station in India… major hub for southern Indian railways… as it has major network to major cities it is always crowded.. even with such crowd the security system is very good, ample restaurants and taxi connections… would have given 5 stars if the cleanliness is good… without help of citizens administration cannot provide top class facilities, if people take care of own cleanliness with self discipline then it would be one of world class railway station.

In my review of Chennai railway station, the overall experience was positive. The station boasts well maintained facilities, ample seating, and clear signage. However, there is room for improvement in crowd management during peak hours, and better information dissemination could enhance the passenger experience. Overall, it's a commendable station, but addressing these areas could further elevate the travel experience for passengers.

Chennai Metro generally receives positive reviews for its cleanliness, efficiency, and connectivity. Users appreciate the air-conditioned coaches, punctuality, and the ease of navigating the system. However, some mention that crowded conditions during peak hours can be a challenge. Overall, it's considered a convenient mode of transportation for many in the city.

Ancient one built by British 150 years go in 1850. Madras presidency the main fort of British empire for both sea and rail route throughout their reign. Still standing strong and unique landmark for Chennai even now. Building as been renovated and facilities improved in the recent years. Millions of travellers use the station every month. Best route and cheap for North Indians who work in Chennai. Kudos to Indian Railways for maintaining it clean every day. We booked A/C coach tickets and it was good, comfortable for our family. Railway food is good but better take water bottles from station before taking the train. Long journey but better than flight hassles and no tickets for kids under 5. The ticket price is 5 times lower than flight and can travel over night, reach centre of the city.

An iconic and historic building that is a symbol of Chennai city. The railway terminus is huge and is well connected to almost everywhere in Chennai by the metro, buses, and the rapid local trains from the Chennai Park and Chennai Park Town railway stations opposite to this terminal.

Railway station is maintained at somewhat satisfactory. Cleanliness is average. Sitting area is not sufficient but maybe crowd is more. Entrance and exit are always jammed by traffic. Make sure you consider more time to pass the traffic area. Standard uber pick up point is far so manually select the point. Due to traffic, many time Uber rejects our ride. They shoud work seriously about traffic issue since it is the main central railway station

Well you can easily say this is "the Icon" of Chennai City. Built in 18th century and functioning since 1873 non stop till date. It is the busiest railway station in south India with 350 express trains and more than 1000 local/ passenger trains commencing from here. On an average 8lac people use this station every single day, now that's a serious number we need to mind of. This station has 17 platforms and a lot eateries, shops, luggage room, waiting room, rest rooms and lot.

I love this station and have been visiting it for the last 1/2 century!! I've seen it grow, improve and flourish. While the sounds (and smells) can seem overwhelming, it definitely grows on you. The main concourse is quite amazing and is almost always packed with people - passengers, visitors and random people. The Wi-Fi is amazing, thanks to Google. This is one of the few terminals in India where the line actually terminates inside the train station and to that extent it is certainly a terminus. I've captures a few pictures. Please enjoy!

One of the most important and iconic places in chennai . Lots and lots of express trains starts from chennai central . It is much cleaner than what it used to be before . They maintain it so well. Kudos to the government and everyone involved . Lots of stalls around the station .u will get idly vada , juice , medicines etc etc inside the station . Large boards displaying the status of trains and which platform they leave . I just do it know the quality of water that they sell - the one where they filter it and give u and also the bottled ones . I fell sick drinking this water . Avoid buying water from station. If not for this , it was a good experience overall. The railway station in Chennai is well maintained and the building itself makes a very good impression as nicely designed, both practical and esthetically pleasing. It was built in 1870s.

Quite a pleasant place, easy commuting and general shops within close vicinity, easy access to Chennai park railway station and Chennai park metro station within 650meters. Shaded sitting arrangement are provided for public and private cabs and pre-paid auto/cabs should be all around at negotiable rates. Evenings look better and multiple Heritage bulidings nearby. If you are traveling and short of time, one good advice would be to use the metro it's way quicker as roads get super busy with traffic with the evening setting in.

Chennai Central Station serves as a major transportation hub, having opened in 1873 with initially four platforms, presently twelve. The station is one of the most important hubs in the country, catering to a diverse population. It serves as a crucial railway junction, connecting major cities and regions in India, and facilitates both long-distance and suburban train services. Unable to enter the railway station itself, I was able to observe the surroundings of the railway station instead. At the time of visiting, people queued at ticket booths, but no matter how many people lined up, the station’s waiting area did not fill up. Similarly, there were an amount of people waiting with their luggage at covered walkways. There is a sense of importance attached to Chennai Central Railway Station, the way that the tall clock tower extrudes into the sky and shadows the bustling crowd on the ground, in turn adding a sense of symmetry to the building.

The busiest railway station in South India, hands down! Let me tell you, the cleanliness here is top-notch. And guess what? You can find a free washroom and toilet on the first floor. Talk about convenience! Oh, and don't even get me started on the breathtaking view outside the station. It's absolutely beautiful! But wait, there's more! Right next to the station, you've got easy access to local trains, buses, and even the metro. Talk about seamless communication! Now, I won't lie to you, sometimes the crowds can be overwhelming, which makes maintaining cleanliness a challenge. But you know what? The railways are giving it their all, and that deserves some serious appreciation. And let's not forget about the variety of vending stalls available. They've got you covered for all your needs. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

The station is crowded 24/7. You can get in here to find trains which routes to Karnataka (Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Mysore) Kerla, Coimbatore, Tirupati etc and some North places too. The best thing in this station is, you don't need to take stairs or elevator to change platforms. The station is at the end of train length, so you can simply walk along to change platforms. Totally there are 11 main platforms in this station. 2-3 larger display boards for train info and there is are waiting halls ( paid and non paid) Well maintained restrooms which are free to use. For food, there is a A2B restaurant and many budget friendly fast food hotels available near waiting hall. Near all platforms, there is a drinking water stall where u can either get water bottles or you can fetch water to your own bottles for 5 Rs. Near A2B, you can find Huggin bothams book stall which sales magazines, English and Tamil books. Long wait time people can buy book here and spend time reading it. There will be Police, lady police during night travels and an enquiry hall for any concerns Beside this main station, you can find the sub urban train station. Ticket counter is at the entrance. It has 4-5 platforms which usually routes to Arakonam, Tiruttani, Guindy etc. There is a Sub-urban rail app to get local train info. You can also find Metro station, bus stop and the rikshaw stand just opposite to station. Overall, this station is very well convenient for passengers to travel to their destination safely.
