The park comprises a snake park and children's park. The tickets are at the cost of 20 rupees per adult and 5 rupees per child (5-12 years). Snake park has a variety of venomous and non-venomous snakes ranging from pythons to boas to cobras. It also has Crocodiles, Alligators and Gharials. Some turtles and chameleons too. The children's park has a variety of birds, monkeys, deer, porcupine and jackal. It's very open and spacious. A couple of huge kids play areas are present. People are allowed to bring food and eat inside the park. There are small snacks stalls outside the park near the parking lot. The park has multiple points that provide drinking water. The washrooms could be a little more hygienic.

Guindy National Park in Chennai is a serene sanctuary amidst the bustling cityscape, offering a unique natural escape. Spanning over 2.7 square kilometers, it's a haven for biodiversity enthusiasts and nature lovers. The park's diverse flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species, captivate visitors. Within its bounds, one can witness the graceful deer roaming freely, adding to the park's charm. The park's landscape seamlessly integrates the city's urban fabric with nature, featuring a variety of trees, shrubs, and plants, providing a tranquil environment for leisurely walks and picnics. The Children's Park within Guindy National Park is an added delight for families, with its play areas and educational spots. However, the park's maintenance and infrastructure could be improved to enhance the visitor experience. The signage and information about the wildlife and plant species could be more extensive for educational purposes. Despite this, Guindy National Park remains a valuable gem, preserving Chennai's ecological balance while offering a respite from the city's daily chaos. It's a place that reminds us of the importance of conservation within an urban landscape, making it a worthwhile visit for nature enthusiasts and families seeking a serene retreat.

I liked it a lot personally. Very serene and nicely maintained. No matter how much government tries our folks also need to have basic manners to avoid littering the place. Hence i wont blame the authorities for littering. Apart from that a very good place for kids to enjoy. They have many animals good lawns and very big place to walk around. And the children play area is good as well for kids to enjoy. Must see at a very cheap price.

Are you looking for a mini forest like ambience within city? Do you want to see deer, snakes, crocodiles, emu, ostrich, monkeys, various pelicans, tortoise, lizards within city? Do you want to spend good time with kids in shady play area? If you answer yes to any one or for all of these then this is a must visit place. Very well maintained and details of animal in the cage is displayed throughout the park. Two vast play area for kids available inside the park. Big tiled shady area is available for taking food and to rest. Shop is available only in the entrance and it's better to carry water and snacks with you. Overall it's a must visit place for all. Best to visit after 2pm & 3hrs is sufficient.

It's a good place to spend some time with family and especially suits for children. One more thing is we could see only fewer animals. The parking charge is a very reasonable price and entry too. Most schools people are visiting this place and they are enjoying a picnic with packed lunch.

Please don't visit the park during summer time, as the summer sun is very harsh you can't enjoy the whole beauty of the park. It is better to go during year ends as the climate during that time is more bearable than that of summer. If you have kids, they would definitely love it, as the park has separate section for children to play games and the parents can rest as well.

I stumbled upon the Gunidy Snake Park by accident, as the adjacent Children's Park was closed for renovation. Surprisingly, it exceeded our expectations. The entry fees were reasonable, with kids at 10 rs, adults at 20 rs, and an additional 20 rs for carrying cameras or mobiles, while a separate camera incurred a 40 rs charge. Inside, a variety of snakes, crocodiles, and turtles awaited. The park provided a satisfying experience for both kids and adults. Although some reptiles seemed motionless, leaving visitors questioning their authenticity, it added an intriguing touch. Turtles residing in a small pond were a delight for kids, despite the water needing cleaning. The park offered small games, making it an enjoyable outing. However, the absence of restrooms is a drawback. The visit typically takes 1-2 hours, providing a quick yet entertaining experience. For reptile enthusiasts and those seeking educational value for kids, this place is a budget-friendly option. As the Children's Park undergoes renovation, there's potential for the Snake Park to enhance its appeal by incorporating more reptiles and improving cleanliness. If these improvements are made, it could become a more engaging and educational destination for everyone. Overall, Gunidy Snack Park is a cost-effective and enjoyable option for a brief outing.

I'm a little bit disappointed because there are very few animals and snakes too. It's a very small national park you can visit within an hour. Also you have to pay an extra 20 rs for the Mobile photography. Entry tickets are 20rs for adults. And 15 rs for the kids. Visit with less expectations

Guindy National Park is a 2.70 km2 (1.04 sq mi) protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai, India, is the 8th-smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding Raj Bhavan, formerly known as the 'Guindy Lodge', the official residence of the governor of Tamil Nadu, India. It extends deep inside the governor's estate, enclosing beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams The park has a role in both ex-situ and in-situ conservation and is home to 400 blackbucks, 2,000 spotted deer, 24 jackals, a wide variety of snakes, geckos, tortoises and over 130 species of birds, 14 species of mammals, over 60 species of butterflies and spiders each, a wealth of different invertebrates—grasshoppers, ants, termites, crabs, snails, slugs, scorpions, mites, earthworms, millipedes, and the like. These are free-ranging fauna and live with the minimal of interference from human beings. The only major management activity is protection as in any other in-situ conservation area. The park attracts more than 700,000 visitors every year. Guindy Snake Park, formerly the location of Madras Crocodile Bank Trust, is next to the Guindy National Park. The Snake Park in Chennai gained statutory recognition as a medium zoo from the Central Zoo Authority in 1995. There one can see king cobra, pythons, vipers and other reptiles.

Would request people to arrive early to reduce the rush.. I made it to the place at 9:30 AM on a Sunday morning and the place was quite empty. The entrance fee for adults is 40rs and if you like Snakes, you will love the snake park. There are various different varieties of Venomous and No Venomous ones ranging from Spectacled Cobra,Vipes,Kraits and Rock Python.. My favourite was the yellow Albino python. There is a museum as well and there are specimens preserved in medical solutions.. There is a crocodile section as well having Saltwater crocodile, Gharial, Indian crocodile etc. Worth a visit, and I enjoyed my time completely..

Guindy National Park is a good place to visit for animal and nature lover. The place is easy accessible. The tickets are not much. Bring kids with you. It worth much for them to learn by seeing the animals themselves. It has great educative value. Thanks authority for taking interest in wild animals. I come to learn more about animals visiting the place.

Rest it's good to sit with family and friends and children. Overall there are hardly any animals. Snacks and refreshments are available outside the entrance of children's park.

A park is an area of natural, semi-natural or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. Urban parks are green spaces set aside for recreation inside towns and cities. The largest parks can be vast natural areas of hundreds of thousands of square kilometers (or square miles), with abundant wildlife and natural features such as mountains and rivers. In many large parks, campy and voilince is allowed with a permit. Many natural parks are protected by law, and users may have to follow restrictions

This is a great place for kids and families. Government has taken a lot of steps to renovate and improve public experience. Thanks to all the measures taken. The staff are also very friendly. Good measures are taken to disinfect people entering the premises. There are two parks inside for kids to play. There are close to 15 enclosures for wild animals which include crocodile, turtles, snakes, spotted deer, sambar deer, barking deer, three types of primate species, Emu, ostrich , casowary, owl, peacock, love birds, parrots and many more. A beautiful and cool place for a evening hangout and best place to visit with family. Childrens will definitely love it.. There are several type of animals, birds, fishes and trees there. Everything add beauty and provide a peaceful ambience. There's no any noice and pollution here everything is well maintained and every animals are well treated here. There are wide variety species of different birds and animals are here. White peacock and big ostrich birds are the speciality. The problem that I found here that Toilet facility and washrooms are available but not a good quality and Not clean. And drinking water is also not good. I can't find an even small water purifier here. It will be definitely very much helpful if the officials and management can provide good washroom facility for ladies and children and also good water for all the visitors. Apart from that all was very good and I loved the evening there.

Not 100% exciting as most of display animals are not real and only few animals are available and those few are okay to watch and enjoy. Well protected by the state government, the park is considered to be the eighth smallest National Park of India. Adjacent to the National Park is the exciting National Children’s Park attracting the younger lot. Another attraction of the National Park is the Snake Park.

This is one of the best zoological parks in India. Before planning a visit, make sure atleast 4-5 hours are kept aside to completely enjoy the full zoo since this is really vast. There is an entrance fee of Rs. 30 per head, Rs. 25 for still camera. Car parking fee is Rs. 20 and ample space is available for parking. Once inside, there are different options to roam around. One is to walk around the zoo which should be done at a slow and relaxed pace, since you have to walk a lot. Other option is to hire a bicycle, which they have many and costs just Rs.10 per hour and which I consider the best option, if you don't have small kids. Other alternative is to take an open electric van, which costs Rs. 30 per head. It will take you around the zoo in one hour. If you want to travel inside alone with your family, you can book the full electric van for Rs.330. Now regarding the inmates, the zoo has a very good collection of animals and birds.

The zoo is just ok. A lot of the animals are living in quite poor conditions, it was 36 degree outside and I saw a lot of the cages did not even have any water :(. The ponds in some cages were quite dirty and unmaintained. I guess this is what a 20 rupee entrance fee can do. I personally did not like the fact that they had caged quite common species like the eagles and hyena. I hope the zoo keepers take better care of these animals in the future.

Even though they have mentioned children park, there is no proper maintenance and it's not a friendly environment for children. There are too many snake holes and it's all covered with leaves in most of the part, and the children play area is also not maintained properly if a kid fall they will definitely get injured not because of falling down but because of improper maintenance. And the food just outside the park is also expensive they charge 30 for 1litre water and after entering they charge 10 refundable amount.

I visited the park on a Saturday morning only to find that the park was closed for renovation. Luckily, the snake park was open and it was a delight to be there. The Albino python and Siamese cobra were kind enough to let me take a close-up snap of them. There are fun facts on display near their enclosures which adds immense value. I liked the section where they had nonvenomous snakes and the texts explaining to us about how those snakes are often killed by us mistaking them to be poisonous. It was a real eye opener. The place also has crocodiles, iguanas and other reptiles. The salt water crocodile is a spectacular animal to see, with its imposing size and ruggedness. Seriously, that was much bigger than one would imagine (that's what she said) a crocodile to be. Overall, a must visit for all animal lovers. Will visit again once they open the national park.

A good place to take the kids for a day outing. They get to see a decent variety of birds, deer, crocodiles, snakes, turtles, tortoise, and monkeys. It would take 2 to 3 hrs to walk around the place. It also has an open play area where the kids can enjoy. The place does not feel very hot becoz it has a lot of trees yet the best time to visit here wud be November to March. It's open from 9 to 6. Morning hours has a lean crowd. So while taking kids, mornings wud be easy. Entry fee is RS 20 for adults and RS 5 for children 5 to 15 yrs. Extra RS 20 for camera and RS 50 for video camera. It also has wheelchair availability at extra cost. There is a snake park next to this place which is also worth seeing.

Exact place for children. Very clean and calm.. You can carry food in there. Get in by 9.30 and come out by 5.00 (closes at 5.30). Just roam around see animals (not so wild like tiger and lion).. Get in to snake park.. Entry fee is very minimal ( ₹ 20).. Enjoyed a lot.

A half a day trip to family. Wonderful place in city centre. Kids will enjoy. At entrance you will find ticket counter. 20/- for adults.. The good thing is we can pay for mobile camera and take it inside for photography. What I liked is the compact park where you will not get exhaustedexhausted by walking. Come out...At a walking distance of 800mi you will reach Birla planetorium...

Good place to spend the evening with kids. No more of place to see animals, they have few deers and birds nothing much. 20 rupees charged per ticket for mobile phone camera which is funny. Also the guy the entrance, gave me a parking ticket which was printed 4 hrs back. On questioning he said the time in his device is incorrect and then printed a new parking ticket.

A small zoological park is situated in the middle of the city. There are only a handful amount of animals in this park that is deers, birds, monkeys, tortoises, and snakes. The snake park comprises only of 4 to 5 species of snakes featuring Indian cobra and all. Due to rain nowadays the park has become a little messy. If proper care and more maintenance are done then it could be better. Outside of the park, there is a small canteen where you can eat some snacks and drink tea but it is frequently raided by monkeys. The management must do something to repel those monkeys from the canteen location so that people can peacefully eat their snacks. The entry tickets cost Rs 20/- for adults and for any sort of camera it is Rs 20/- too. Overall I say 40 to 45 minutes of the visit to this park should get your mood refreshed.

Pros: 1. There is enough car parking 2. There is enough shops to buy some snacks 3. Huge place for kids to run around 4. A nice park for kids to play in the center. All the rains brought up the lush green all around. Cons: 1. Not many animals, and the animals are in a sad condition 2. More importantly, some cages are empty ?! In some cages, there is just 1 animal and they are freaking hard to find.. example, the owl enclosure, there is 1 owl.. and it took forever to find it, good luck showing an owl to your 2yr old suggestions: Need more animal varieties please. And no more parrots, people have budgies and parrots in their own houses for god's sake

Well maintained and neat park. Located adjacent to the Adyar cancer institute. Inside the park u can find the following, 1. Children's park 2. Snake park 3. Food area 4. Parking area 1. Children's park: When I visited on 29-Dec-2021, the cost was Rs.20 for adults, Rs.5 for children above 5 years and Rs.20 for camera/mobile. U can witness different types of deers, birds such as emu, owl, parrot, love birds, white peafowl, Indian kite, etc., monkeys, Star turtle. Two kids play areas are there which gave the kids more fun. The park is nearly maintained by the staff. 2. Snake park: Here the cost is Rs.20 for adults and Rs.10 for kids and Rs.10 for mobile/camera. Here u can witness snakes of different varieties right from venomous snakes like cobra, Krait, viper and non venomous snakes like python, rattle snake, Etc., U can also find turtle and iguana. I was amazed to see the types of crocodiles in the crocodile zone. Attaching the photos. There is a museum inside the snake park which has all the specimen of snakes, frogs, turtles and other reptiles. Babies are always cute. I learnt from here that even the crocodile babies are cute to see. :-) There is a small shopping outlet at the entrance selling oils and other toys. 3. Food area: There is quite few options which kids love to have such as ice cream, cotton candy, sweet corn, popcorn, soft drinks, sugarcane juice, sandwitch etc., 4. Parking area: Drive straight inside the national park, u can find 2-wheeler and 4-wheeler parking at the end.

Entrance fee is 30 rupees for adults and 5 rupees for kids. Additionally they will ask 10 rupees for mobile/camera phones. Nice place to spend with kids. It's a Mini zoo and kids will enjoy this place a lot. There is children area inside where they can play inside. Huge parking space is available and they charge 10 rupees for bikes. We can spend about 1 hour to complete visiting the entire park. It is present next to the snake park inside Guindy national park.

I visited this park many times, but this time some of the creatures were not available, and few cages were mentioned as "UNDER Maintenance". Apart from that, within city this is one of the best park for kids. It has wide play area where our kids can enjoy and spend their time. Snake park was one of the iconic place inside this National park. Ticket # 20 for adults and 5 for kids Camera# 20 rupees Rest rooms # available inside campus Snake park: Entry ticket is similar to the national park.

Excellent for a short visit, but expected to see the king Cobra in the sneak park. It's very near from Chennai city center. Auto or Uber is convenient transport in this place. The area is clean and children friendly. There were arrangements from safe drinking water for visitors, which was really good and effective for everyone. The snake park is small but there were many arrangements for enjoyment. Especially the house of iguana and birds attracted me. You can feed iguanas in a friendly way. Which was very interesting. The children park is also nearby but there were some developmental works going on..

It extends deep inside the governor's estate, enclosing beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams. The park has a role in both ex-situ and in-situ conservation and is home to 400 blackbucks, 2,000 spotted deers, 24 jackals, a wide variety of snakes, geckos, tortoises and over 130 species of birds, 14 species of mammals, over 60 species of butterflies and spiders each, a wealth of different invertebrates—grasshoppers, ants, termites, crabs, snails, slugs, scorpions, mites, earthworms, millipedes, and the like. For ex-situ conservation, about 22 acres (8.9 ha) of the Guindy National Park has been carved out into a park known as the Children's Park and play area at the northeast corner of the national park with a collection of animals and birds. The Children's Park gained statutory recognition as a medium zoo from the Central Zoo Authority in 1995. Animals in the Children's Park include black buck, sambar, spotted deer, porcupine, jackal, python, grey pelican, night heron, cormorant, cockatiel, parrot, mongoose, common peafowl, crocodile, common otter, rhesus monkey, bonnet monkey and common langur. The Children's Park also exhibits a fossilised tree specimen which is estimated to be about 20 million years old[11] and a statue of a Tyrannosaurus at the entrance. The Children's Park and the Snake Park have separate entrances and independent entry fees. Drinking water, vendors and catering are available. The entrance lies on the busy Sardar Patel Road next to the Adyar Cancer Institute. In December 2019, an augmented reality (AR) show with a capacity of 20 persons was opened to public.[12]

A perfect hangout area for a relaxing evening... Thought the park lacks enough animals, it's filled with few migrating birds and parrots... Can spend here an hour or two.... Aside snake park holds more variety of pythons and crocodile... They also conduct live display shows to audience.... Snacks are available outside the park at affordable price...

There is a Snake park and a Children's Zoo + Park.. Both have different gates. And different tickets. Be careful when you buy tickets. The Zoo + Park does not have too many animals, but is well maintained. I could not see too many animals. Even the children's playground was crowded. There is a restaurant cum sit out outside the park. Not inside.

Thanks to the govt for including the AR show in Guindy Children's Park. The way it's been organized should be improved a lot. Since every show running time is for 12 mins, the shows can be well organized with show timing. Now it's un-organized with queue in 2 location. One in ticket counter and the other in the show auditorium. Lot of crowd without tickets are occuping the auditorium and the one with valid ticket should wait for a longer time. I request the management to take necessary steps to organize the show with timings and fix the max head count. Lighter part: Such kind of AR show with out a 3D glasses is useless.

Those aquatic birds in cage were hungry and waiting at the slab where fish will be thrown ,we went first to the park at 10 a.m.and waited there to see the feeding of birds but no food came, asking about the food to the staff he said fish is not fed to birds in proper time and only less amount of fish is sown and hence insufficient to all birds ,the fish supplier comes in his own time from morning to evening and some days no supply comes and birds are very much hungry and restless -he said and requested not to say his name anywhere, the government is sending lots of funds and what a matter a woman can come every day with fresh catched fish and get checked by the zoo incharge ,atleast sea is just 2 kilometres from the park and a staff can buy fresh fish from net every morning ,when bought in plenty and reqular fish cost very less, wantedly you people are doing or you people are fools and uneducated, concern department must take care and the incharge must be severely punished

You can take food inside for your consumption. Less crowded on weekdays. Avoid the VR show if u are mature.

Enjoyed my experience of visiting this place and eye witnessing presence of reptiles .... Got to know about there food habits and how quietly they sat next to their prey/meals... It was a soul searching experience as the tiny little rat 🐀 danced on the python ....hw was enjoying every bit of his life until the python gets hungry and the curtains on his life will fall to be gotten swallowed by the beast to ward off his hunger ...thats what the food cycle is all about... Have a great time visiting this place and if got lucky will visit again to witness yet another journey called life..

It's no more maintained properly. Very few animals are there. It has big children playground which is the busiest area here. Young children will enjoy it. Better to bring your food and water and enjoy picnic here. That's what many people were doing when we visited. If you have visited Vandaloor Zoo,then you can give this place a pass. If you're looking a lesser known place to visit, then it's okay.

Spanning over an area of 2.70 square kilometres, it is a great habitat of varied species of fauna coupled with the tropical dry evergreen forests of the Coromandel Coast. Well protected by the state government, the park is considered to be the eighth smallest National Park of India. Adjacent to the National Park is the exciting National Children’s Park attracting the younger lot. Another attraction of the National Park is the Snake Park. With the presence of a splendid variety of snakes, it attracts several pharmaceutical companies that help them produce anti-venom drugs. The wildlife population of the Park includes Chital, Sloth Bear, dhole, and Indian spotted chevrotain, Spotted deer, common Palm Civet, Small Liven Civet, Bonnet Macaque and Pangolin.Bird lovers try to spot their favourite ones among the 130 species of the winged creatures found in the park. the Guindy Snake Park houses reptiles like the Pythons, Adders, Vipers, King Kobras and Fan-throated Lizard, Geckos, Star Tortoise, giant Turtles, Kraits, Indian Monitor Lizard and Chameleons. It also displays reptiles like Gharial, Slider Turtle, Rock Lizard, Green Iguana, Indian flapshell Turtle, Siamese Crocodile, Spectacled Cobra, dog-faced water snake, common vine snake, common cat snake, Olive keelback, Common Wolf Snake, Common Sand boa, Indian Rock Python and Whitaker’s Boa. An inspiring museum displaying the specimens of reptiles and amphibians is another interesting feature of the Guindy Snake Park.

The place is nice for passing your time. Nice place to take your children. Maintainence could have been done better. Some animals were in very bad conditions. Located near IITM. If you watch Discovery channel religiously, you will see a lot of things from TV into real life.

This is a very poorly maintained enclosure, it s more animal cruelty than anything else. The state of these animals are really bad, infected and not attended to. You can observe kids tossing stones to engage the animals and no one to control. No animal should ever suffer such a sad fate.

Good Place to visit, you can't visit the entire National park, There is a small park like place for tourists to see animals in enclosure and the rest is reserved forest. You have to buy two separate tickets for Children's parka nd Snake park

This is the place for the people that would want to take kidz out for a day inide the hustling city . Kidz will enjoy looking at herbivores such as deers, monkeys and variety of birds...the good part is tht you would not be exhausted much as the park both small enough for you to complete the tour and big enough for kidz to play around. Caution: You might see monkeys roaming freely inside the park. Stay by ur kidz side when they eat snack :)

One of the major highlights of Guindy Park is its wildlife population, which includes several snake species and crocodiles. Visitors have the opportunity to witness these creatures in their natural habitats, making it an exciting and educational experience. However, it is important to note that precautions should be taken while exploring the park to ensure safety and to avoid any unnecessary risks. The park management ensures the safety of the visitors by maintaining strict guidelines and providing necessary information about the behavior and habits of the animals. Trained staff are present to guide and assist visitors, ensuring a safe and informative visit. The park also offers an eco-tourism program that includes nature walks and bird watching, allowing visitors to explore the park's diverse ecosystem and learn about its conservation efforts. Another advantage of Guindy Park is its convenient location, as it is situated in close proximity to many major attractions in Chennai, such as the Guindy Race Course, the Raj Bhavan, and the famous Marina Beach. In conclusion, Guindy National Park in Chennai is a well-maintained urban park that offers a unique opportunity to witness snakes and crocodiles in their natural habitats. With its diverse wildlife, serene environment, and convenient location, it is definitely worth a visit for nature lovers and those seeking a break from the city's chaos. However, it is essential to adhere to the park's guidelines and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
