Nice shop to taste idli and dosa variety . Chutneys are good. Tasted masal roast, paneer masal roast and podi idly taste was good.

Recently i visited with my family to Murugan idli at besant Nagar, we have been to chennai - bangalore high way branch, so we thought this would the same. At 11am it self the restaurant tables were not arranged and the floor was so dirty, we asked if the restaurant is open or not, one person asked to sit didn't even say it is open, we waited for a long time, to give our order. We ordered podi idli, podi uthappa, masala dosa and vada. I saw vada at the glass box, asked give me the vada if it is hot, he took the vada from the display box, it was so cold and literally asked to take back all the vada except one. Not at a good food at this branch, very bad service for the same price. Hand wash area was do dirty the whole experience was unpleasant and horrible. Don't over order at restaurant and don't waste food.

As usual, the taste of all the dishes was good. But the cleanliness of the restaurant must be improved. Service was satisfactory and fast.

Their Ghee podi idlis are the best that I had so far. We had tried their Masala dosa, jigarthanda, plain and Ghee podi idlis. The food was served on Banana leaf, they served four chutneys along with it and sambhar for the dosa. The experience of eating here on Banana leaf is something you should definitely try. 1. Final price of each item with tax is not published / shared with customers. 2.Waiters are trained to offer only high priced products without listening to what customer wants /has asked. Only objective is bill has to be high per table with no parameters for customer service. 3. Taste is good but food is very very oily. Not healthy option for dinner. 4. Mini coffee (cost effective) is never be available - so don't waste ur time asking for it.

Mixed experience in this outlet. We visited around 4pm on a Sunday. We had podi idly, onion ghee podi uthappam and jigarthanda. Taste was good as usual. But the outlet wasn't maintained well and it wasn't clean. It was infected with house flies. Service was fast though despite the lack of waiters. Parking is small, two cars can be parked and couple of bikes can be parked at any given time. Sodexo is not accepted. Cards and cash are accepted.

One of the famous restaurants in this location. The ordered food ghee masala dosa, plain dosa and idli with Vada were good. They lure you to take their regular podi idli, Paniyaram, Pongal by taking trays around. Pathetic things is the server who took order just forced a few customers by serving paniyaram saying the food they ordered was getting late and you have this by the time. Too bad. They serve tap water connected to cooler, if one is health conscious they will serve you bottled water. On the service, don’t expect courteous service by the people who serve food. Atmosphere- Not as expected from famous food chain. Bathroom not clean. Handwashing basins were clogged and tap knobs not working. Food Waste disposal from tables are kept alongside the serving area and does not give a good feel. The people who serve food had dirty clothing which is not expected from a big food chain.

Food is yum. Especially the curry podi idli, garlic podi idli & also the sweet Pongal. Dosa was nice & Rava dosa could have been a bit better Location is great. Ambience is below average and service is not bad .

One of the best outlet to taste idli. I have entered idli shop just to have some cool feeling of AC because of heat outside. Rest nowhere was fully AC outlet. When I saw the way they were serving Idli on Banana leaf with 5 different types of Chutney, I thought I should taste it. I taste 2 different types of Idli, 1 hot wada and 5 different types of Chutney on traditional manner. Taste was really very awesome. Service was so quick. Staff was serving chutney and sambhar many times without any limitations. Price was within pocket of everyone. In short it was cheap and best.

This murugan idly shop is located at one end of Besant nagar beach. The food is served fresh - although extremely overpriced. 3 paniyaram here costs 52rs (and tax).

breakfast that is served with delicious coconut chutney and sambar. Idli is soft and fluffy. There are different variants of idli: rave idli, masala idli, flattened rice idli and many more. Since it's made out of rice and urad dal, it is easily digestible. Also, since it is steamed, they don't have a lot of calories. idli tastes bland. But served with a sambar and a green coconut chutney, it becomes one of the most delicious foods you will ever eat. This is also food for everyone--and anytime.

We went to eat, and it cost almost Rs.600 for three people. Have ordered sakara pongal, podi idly, paneer, rava, and rava dosa. The paneer dosa was completely not good and the rava was of mediocre quality. Pongal and masal dosa were delicious. Good sambar and four distinct chutneys were served with good service.

Food was good but the place is not what it was 3 years back. The chairs were of grease stains. They need to revamp the interiors, furniture, and also their utensils. The metal tumblers they gave were rusted. Staff need to be trained on customer engagement etiquette. They also need to ensure the waiters are attired neatly and the place clean. The security at the car park was very friendly and polite.

This Murugan idli shop at Besant Nagar is their mothership. Murugan is otherwise not new to me. I have loved their jiggly soft idlis along with their ghee podi and chutneys. It's awesome. So circling back, I thought the mothership would be a huge set-up. But it wasn't. It's USP is that it's very close to the beach. I ordered my staple idlis and vada. I liked the experience but wasn't wowed to be honest. I will always come back to murugan for their idlis.

Poor service

Like with all south indian vegetarian chains based on Chennai quality has gone down. Murugan Idly used to have far better taste at relatively lesser price than its competitors like Saravana Bhavan, A2B, Grand Sweets, Vasantha Bhavan, Sangeethas. All of these chains always priced their products higher. Dosa costing 70-100. Across the board for past few years taste & quality has come down across all chains. While expanding on number of branches & topline they lost their raison-detre which is quality & tasty food. Still better than quick service restaurants in other states

My first visit to Murugan idli shop. Had breakfast here - idli, vada, plain dosa and podi idli. Food was just okay and nothing that makes it to stand apart from other eateries. Prices are also slightly on the higher side.

Based on my recent visit, there was no proper response from the people who serve and meals was actually available but when we ordered, they informed as not available. It would be great if the availability of the dishes are updated to the customers properly. Rest of the dishes are good.

Very busy Murugan Idly restaurant at Besant Nagar. My most favourite here are ghee podi idly, masala dosa, rava dosa. They provide 4 types of chutneys and sambar which tastes yummy but is watery. You may need to wait for 10-20 minutes before getting a seat to dine. They also have take away which can be utilities considering on going pandemic. Very few parking slots are available here which could be a concern.

My favourite place for authentic idli, sambhar and the varities of chutney it comes along with. Served on a plantain leaf. Best times to go is in the morning for breakfast. Being a north indian it's one of my must go places..

Ordered veg meals for 150 rupees with white rice sambar vathal kolabu rasam and curd with payasam only 2 side dish were given. Over hyped not that worth only can go there for their tiffen items

Taste of the food is extraordinary. Service was a little disoriented. As they get a lot of moving crowd, they don't care if you sit or wait. You leave , they have other customers, so they won't make you feel comfortable . The restaurant was untidy. I would say, don't pay service charge.

Overhyped. Food was normal. You could get the same quality from some other decent restaurant for a fraction of price. Quantity is too small for the pricing. It's always overcrowded and when you ask about any items from the menu, the waiters rudely say "its not there, we run out of it very soon, you won't get it". No one wears a mask including the waiters and they all just repeat the same 4 menu items. For 4 people who had one dish each the bill came close to 800inr. All that to be unsatiated and irked in the end.

The food is good and tasty... food served on Banana leaf is always tasty and healthy too. Slightly food is expensive 😐 One star reduced coz they don't have TEA 😑 disappointed.

We ordered Ghee Podi Idly, Garlic Podi Idly, Paniyaram, Chettinad Masala Dosa, Curd Vadai, and Jigarthanda. Except paniyaram and curd vadai, all taste good. The Jigarthanda is tasty. All are very expensive. The quantity is less for the cost.

My favourite restaurant in Chennai where we can eat best vegetarian tiffin. Podi idli is very famous here. We will get three four side dishes along with idli. The side dishes are unlimited. Dosa is also very tasty here. If you visit this restaurant in the evening time you will be able to buy different snacks like cheese paniyaram, medu vada etc. don’t forget to order a jigartanda after food. It’s really tasty.

I went many times and ate idly with my family. But today I bought 4 idlis and one vadai as a parcel and paid 117/-. I bought and 6.30pm and ate at 8.15pm today. All the side dishes last it's taste. I ate only plain idly without side dishes. I feel very bad today. Please try to give in good condition of your dishes

The food is awesome here. Always crowded with huge people. The idly and cheese Bonda is famous here. If you order idly they will bring huge variety of side dishes in pure vegetarian. There is one beautiful concept here in our table they will bring all items from there we can get what we want from instant
