I loved the Planetarium show! It was amazing and it was all about the night sky and solar system. The video is projected in a dome-shaped ceiling which gave such an excellent view. The effect is like looking into the sky. Along with that, the show has explanations on every scene which helped us learn more about planets and their moons. The interactive science exhibits are awesome. The only problem I've noticed is that some of the exhibits are under maintenance. There is a park inside where kids can enjoy. Overall It's a great place to go with your kids!

It's one of the must-visit places in Chennai. Especially the family with school-going kids. It will create an interest in science, space technology and astronomy. As well as the place is quiet peaceful and certainly worth our time. Also has kids play area, so kids will enjoy this place. It also exhibits the nuclear science, DRDO history and projects, Mathematician Ramanujan history and his achievements and contributions. Has ample parking space available and entrance ticket is affordable even to students. In short visit the place by yourself to know more.

Good exhibition with a beautiful planetarium inside with amazing visuals. Although it's always noisy with screaming kids and crying toddlers making it hard to enjoy the show. Also look at the show timings beforehand so that you don't miss out when you reach there. Buy tickets in advance too. It used to be great years ago, while it still is good, it needs renovation in its exhibits and outdoor facilities. There should also be a better canteen in place.

Very informative place for kids. For reference i added the pics of entry fee details, parking fee details and show timings latest by May 2022. we can buy the entry ticket package which includes 3D show, science on sphere and planet show. Kids will definitely enjoy this place. We visit yearly once. All the shows are extraordinary. Show available in English and Tamil in different timings, we can select according to our interest.

Very big space for parking at a nominal cost of Rs.20/-. Buy entry (15), show tickets(60) at the entrance. During the time I visited except the planetarium other shows were full, so I was unable to enjoy them. Entire place dedicated for science. Kids will enjoy the animal statues, science park, maths, DRDO, Nuclear, Space, Biology exhibitions. Worth spending 4+ hours to cover all the areas. Planetarium 360° show was jaw dropping experience and very informative to know the planets around us.

Very informative place to learn about our solar system, general science, mathematics and scientists who have worked on different areas. The ticket cost ₹80 for adults and it includes planetarium show, 3d show, sphere show and visit to museums. A very good place to bring young kids to stir their enthusiasm. The main show is projected every 1:15hrs, starting from 10 45am, alternating between English and Tamil (check pics). The planetarium campus encompasses museum with scaled models of missiles, jets and tanks, animal heart museum, transport vehicles museum and much more. An informative place to spend time and learn a lot.

B.M. Birla Planetarium is a science city. Here you can find a lot of information about various things including physics, chemistry, astronomy, geography, and biology. You will find a lot of working projects and pictures. Moreover, there are also replicas and models of various inventions. There was some maintenance work going on in some parts due to which we can't visit some parts. The 3D show is not that good. In 3D it should feel like things are coming in reality in front of your eyes but the 3D is of way too poor quality and the screen size is too small. The sphere is good though. Information about the planetary system, geographical areas, flood & drought information was shown in a brightly lit ball. Moreover, there are also replicas of various fighter jets, submarines, tanks, military vehicles, etc. There is also a playground fitted with some swings, slides, etc. Overall the time taken to visit this place is 3 to 4 hours. An amazing and informative place to visit with family.

Perfect place for one day outing. At the entrance the huge space is available to eat with family members. Good parking lots. Few of the park space need to be maintained. The rest room must be clean one hour once on week ends. The documentary show is very good. 3D as usual like other district planetarium. The new addition spherical ball show is a kind of Ok 👌 .

The place needs to be better maintained. Almost none of the equipment in the science center was functional. There is a lot of scope to make this place much better. With so many students visiting the planetarium, the place should smell better and the equipment should always be functional at the very least. The fun mirror section could be made into a game. Shows: The 3 shows are decent. Science on the sphere is a show in which they played a video about El nino. The 3d show was about dinosaurs and how a baby dinosaur finally learned to fly. The planetarium show was about the world's beyond and it was informative.

Enquire before visiting the planetarium, there was no show when I went. Museum is somewhat good, to understand science concepts as well as for seeing various exhibits. Few of them doesn't work, should've kept them maintained by the authorities. There is a dinosaur park as well where sculptures of few dinausor age animals are kept👍

Nice place to visit.. Those who are all intrested about solar system will enjoy it. Drdo exibition is also good.. remaining are not maintained properly.. park area is also not maintained because no crowd and no kids to play... Sphere show is also good it's available only in tamil.. planitoriom is available in both languages Tamil and English.. Overall we can spend half a day here.. One more thing political leader name is kept for one space that is not questionable because this is science park he is not scientist nor he didn't established it .. this credit is to be given only for scientists..

The place is supposed to give wow factor to kids and give them good memories, it does this positively in three things 1. 360 degree theater, 2. Sphere, dinosaur theater and 3. Rocket models Both current generation and future generation(KIDS) can adversely learn these things 1. STEAL MONEY: The petty shop will teach how to steal money with exorbitant price ex: 20 MRP Frooti is sold at Rs.30, 10 MRP chips paket is Sold at Rs.15 - all WITHOUT bill. Upon questioning they say "That is how it is here, if you need buy or go and complain anywhere" 2. MAINTAIN VERY POOR STANDARD IN LIFE: Except the theatre everything else is poorly maintained, it will not work.. not even dusted, people write/draw over the dust in glass. You can get the bathroom smell at the enternace. Almost 90% items are broken. 3. DONT RESPECT OTHERS: The management knows school kids visit in big batches.. THEY SIT IN THE ROAD UNDER THE TREE TO EAT LUNCH, praying the birds don't poop on their food. I am not sure if they even they thought about this. KIDS are expected to learn and facinate about their future by seeing these place, Unfortunately we are setting very very LOW BAR for future generation aswell. Forsure this run by a person who is not passionate about science or future generation.

One of my favorite place in chennai. Many upgrades happened now a days. Planetarium solar system showing theatre renovated, it very good and maintained perfectly. 3D shows need to upgrade with latest technology. Others place also upgraded and fully ac. Science park is good and children can spent more time here, refreshing shops also there. Cars and bike parking available with decent space. Overall this is very good place for all age group.

The place is good for small kids to visit and have some knowledge about about scientific and historical stuff but for an adult only the first show and some small museum objects to see would be interesting. The entry fees per person is 80Rs, the first show which is about the solar system is really wonderful, the dinosaur 3d show is really worst, literally nothing feels 3d there, would not recommend it for even kids, science on sphere is decent one. The rest museum or Knowledgeable type places to visit inside are fossil, ISRO, transport history, Information about our deep seas and oceans, mirror maze. Also there is a small park outside for children to play, but prefer not to visit that park during Summers, the scorching heat is too much for them. Must try once but not a place to visit again and again, the fun may exponentially decrease. It also has some basic food stalls inside but not so sure about the quality and stuff.

If you are going with kids.. Then Buy package ticket... Planetorium is Very Nice.. 3D show and Science of Centre is not worth at all.... Clean Toilets Available... Canteen available for snacks.. Drinking water available... 1 Day spot for chennai makkal and their Kids..

Visited here to see the Annular Solar Eclipse on Dec 26, 2019. It was really a good experience to watch the Cosmic event through the Telescope, Sunglass & many other instruments. And Birla Planetarium Dome theatre was absolutely amazing. It is really great to watch. Science on a Sphere is also very nice. It is a good place for kids to learn science practically. Do visit. It will be more enjoyable!!!

Timings 10: 30 a.m to 5: 15 pm Every half an hour. Alternative language-Tamil and English One of a must place to visit for kids to learn about our planets. There is also some fun activity before you get to the show. The main theatres is going under renovation so, they have created a mini Hall near the museum. There also some fun science activities around like the magic mirror, under the oceans.. Even though it belongs to Chennai you feel proud about it, the planetarium can be maintained better. The staffs are very courteous and kind. The security guards acts like your guide and helps you around the equipments. People sneak in snacks for the 30 mins show can be avoided. The same Content is played over the years. Even though the effect is good, can be better to attract the New Gen. A 3D show is played after the main show, with a funny dinosaur and a roller coaster ride. Even though we are used to plenty of visually expensive 3D movies. This was actually fun. A little amateur but kind of funny and feel good. They also have a park around the planetarium for the kids. They close sharp at 6pm. So you are not allowed even for a minute longer after 6..

Good place to visit atleast once in childhood. Planetarium show is beautiful and good. For children, there are many places to visit and had great experience in that place. Playing areas are available. And 3D theatre is not at the expected level. Other places also good and knowledge related places also there. Ticket prices are reasonable and affordable which is around 30rs, 20rs and 10rs for entry and other places, package is for 60rs. For children prices will be less.

This is a really great initiative to spark the curiosity and attraction towards science, space and how the world works in children. There are exhibits on every scientific principle with working models. There's a show explaining our universe. What I loved most is the park and the rides there based in scientific principles the children can see those in action outside of their books. Learning made fun is how I would describe the entire experience

The Show in dome theatre on planets was amazing. It amazes not only kids. 3d show needs a serious update as it has very old animation videos which were good when 3d movies are rare. Last show on sphere was different and good. Needs a complete day to cover all with kids. Few of the items on display are not working or elements missing needs to be looked. This is a must visit place for kids and space enthusiasts.

B.M. Birla Planetarium was an exclent exprience. There were many amusing things to play with and intersting facts to learn. This particlur visit was not only wonderful but also eductional. The thing that I liked the most was the Planetarium show. It was wondeful but the 3D theater was not that amusing, in fact it was boring. And it seems that they are in the middle of remoduling and cleaning after Covid, I'm looking forward to visiting it one more time after the maintenance are done.

Good place to visit with Family... There are so many things to learn. Even the kids play areas constructed in such a way to learn basic Science. Tamil show starts at 12pm and 2.30pm. This place required more attention and maintenance... If this place is properly maintained then this will be one of the best place to visit in Chennai.

I think I am being generous with the 4 star but it is for the effort. A lot of things needs to be addressed Pros- Good Planetarium and the 3D, Sphere show. A must visit place for school kids to under stand physics and science. Cons- Ill maintained exhibits and non working exhibits, even in the science centre there are broken exhibits. However it is worth the trip and I would love to take my kids again. It will take atleast 4 to 5 hours to see the whole area. The oceanography and communication technology exhibit areas needs upgrading The world has moved on and technology has advanced. There are a lot of old stuff there.

I have been to a science museum in Bengaluru, went today to Planetarium with little expectations but today it is completely disappointing with the exception of a couple of display 1. The cost of the museums is cheap 2. Parks were not maintained well 3. Most of the display items were either not working or not in good shape 4. There wasn't enough staff 5. Space show and Science on Sphere worth watching but the staffs behavior were rude 6. Toilets were poorly maintained 7. Overall this place should have been an ideal place to inspire young minds but it is completely lacking.

I liked the place because it provides a new experience for kids. I liked the last dome theatre experience. I however wish that the people who visit the place are more respectful towards the property. In this case the government has done due diligence and as people we need to take more care when visiting the place.

Children of Chennai must visit this place. Government must make it more functional and shout out to increase the foot print of this place. Right now it is well maintained. Comparing with the planetarium in other cities, this could be lot more better. Improving the signage and way finding, interaction between the exhibits will make this place lot more better.

Very good ? my childhood dream to visit here. Finally I went and it's completely satisfied. Must visit place for children's. Maths lab and science lab is need more improvement. Also in the playing area balls are missing to experiment.

Recently visited the place. Wasn't able to get a ticket to watch their planets show since we visited during a weekend. Go there during weekdays if you want to see the shows. Big parks are there inside. Eco park, dinosaurs park, evolution zone are different but needs care and maintenance. If you are visiting after 4 then you might want to take along some mosquito repellents with you.. Scientific park is where we really felt so good. All the things made for playing is so different from normal parks.

The Projection Theatre seems so dark and comfortable for couples. As I enjoyed being there with my boy friend and had foreplay. So happy as though we were in bed. Also the antique rail engine was so comfortable for having privacy and foreplay. So good :)

I have been to this planetarium in 2000. That time this was a wonderland for me . I have great memories of Chennai and this place especially was the best or it . But the sad fact is that it is still looking the same.when technology advance and things improved around the world the science center still shows the old equipment’s . I even saw one display of cctv as a big thing but ironically the room was fitted with modern cctv .i think the items in the whole Birla planetarium needs to improve .

This place is good for kids. The first show was awesome with good explanation. They also have science museum in which they have collections of transportation, IQ games etc. Children can spend 3 to 4 hours there maximum. The 3D show is the worst here. Also, the restroom facility is not good. The good part is they have variety of out door games like swing, slider etc for the kids. Totally not too good, not too bad.

Very poor maintenance.. Have been to Bangalore Sceince museum and Planetarium.. It's far far batter than this one at Chennai. The park, the Science experimental artifacts and all are not being maintained properly. Even planetarium is not as good as compared with Bangalore one.

After the latest lockdown restrictions are lifted off. This Place is opened for public visit ... Open at 10 am - 5.45 pm .. The sky show is excellent as always. 3D theater is not up to mark 3 out of 5 . Kids have lot of fun in both physical and as well as knowledge... The play area must be cleaned properly lots of snails in kids playing area.. Few Playing rides are rusted... Parents must be aware while kids are playing. A Locker should be arranged before entering sky show not every time we can be sure our belongings would be safe or not in the outside or minimal token system for belongings should be provided for safety precautions.. Minimum 2 hrs needed to see the whole area.. Specific time is alloted for Tamil language English language for sky show.. According to your preference you can get the tickets .. Ticket fare is nominal..

The position of planets and brief description about each planet is shown in the video. Children can a 3D show for about 15 Mts. Everybody especially children will enjoy this place. A must place to visit in Chennai.

A very interesting place to visit for children. A lot needs to be done to maintain the place. The place needs trained Docents to engage with children educating them. This is not a museum, the set up is there but no child was enthused to learn what was on display. This needs corrections asap.

The Dome Theater is just awesome, a must visit not only kids at home but also for adults. The quality of the screen and content was just great, a must do in chennai. They charge 70₹ per adult for entry and 3 screenings, dome 3D and circular. There’s a snack shop inside for popcorn, water and snacks,. The major con is the maintenance of the facility and the condition of the restrooms, they are pathetic. In my opinion, they can totally renovate the whole facility and charge a premium,. One of the most underrated and unknown places in the city. Couldn’t share photos of the theatre as photography is prohibited inside. .

Good place to visit with children. The best part here is the 🪐 planetarium show. We can book the tickets for convenient show timing & meantime pass by the science experiment blocks where children can try to operate and learn practically the concepts.

Would be a great experience for kids. My kid loved all the interactive science exhibits in the center. They could bring more like that! The planetarium show and science on a sphere were good. Lot of scope to make the content more interesting.
