The British architecture has its own magic. What I would like to add along with all reviews is I suggest everyone to go around the area, the nearby roads outside the building. You would be amazed to see early 1900's buildings still standing! It takes you to an era where one can imagine how would 1900's be like. Some old buildings have been converted to shops with same architecture.

Historical master piece! And a well know iconic building of Chennai. It's built in the architectural Neoclassical design and built at span of 4 years from 1909 to 1913. Still standing tall in all white and bright even after 100 years. This is now the place for Greater Chennai corporation of the city.

The monumental classical building in white !!!! A Neo classical beauty which is more than 105 years old. She was not maintained or preserved by the careless governments of the past which did not bother about its importance or history. But 2022 with the present government this beautiful masterpiece and piece de resistance of Chennai is comming back to its original glory. The building will be part of the Central plaza project and bring back a dirty, sleep area spring back to life and colour and greenery. Well done !!! to all who are part of this project.

Didn't go inside the premises. Just viewed it from the outside, in December 2022 around Christmas time. It is the headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation, and is located adjacent to the Chennai Central Railway station, another architectural landmark. As of today, it is 114 years old. The Chennai Corporation has been the occupant of this building since 1913. It was illuminated, maybe on the occasion of Christmas, and it looked beautiful at night.

Stunningly beautiful building (though it is above 100 years old). When I visited this place a few years back it was very poorly maintained. Electrical wiring was very shabbily done and cables were found to be hanging around (Same issue noticed when I visited Egmore Museum!). Don't know why we cannot maintain such important buildings!!!. Administrators should ensure that this building is maintained properly.

Built in the year 1913, the Ripon Building is the official seat of the Chennai Corporation and is painted white as a representation of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Situated close to the Chennai Railway Station, it was constructed by Loganatha Mudaliar and was named after Lord Ripon who was the then Governor General of British India. This royal building is rectangular in shape with a 43 meters tower that has a 2.5 meter clock. Also known as Westminster Chiming Clock, this has been the main attraction of the building ever since it was built. It has a mechanical key system that is checked every day.

Attended a heritage walk organised by Made of Chennai team today. We assembled by 7.45am. At 8.10 sharp our host started the walk. Starting with Akkam Pakkam exhibit we proceeded towards the main building. From main building we headed towards the archival photo exhibit. From there we came out to view another side of the building. Again we went inside to the first floor and had a view of the floor. The walls of the building are many years old. Due to Madras week celebrations I had a great insight of Rippon building also known as White House and Greater corporation chennai.

Ripon building is named in the memory of Lord Ripon, one of the Governor General of British India. This is one of the historical buildings in India. This place os very well maintaing by Tamilnadu government and building was maintained in best and clean way. And connectivity also best for this place because it is very near to Central railway and metro station, Park railway station and within 1km to Egmore railway station. And near to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital bus stop. Main attraction of this place is architecture of the building it is mixture of British and Indian architect style.

The Greater Chennai Corporation (previously Madras) is the Oldest Municipal Institution in India established on the 29th September 1688. A charter was issued on the 30th December, 1607 by East Indian Company constituting the "Town of Fort St. George" and all the territories thereunto belonging, not exceeding the distance of ten miles from the Fort, into a Corporation. The Parliamentary Act of 1792 gave the Corporation power to levy Municipal Taxes in the City. The Municipal administration properly commenced from the Parliamentary Act, 1792 making provision for the good order and administration of the city. The Municipal Act has been amended introducing from time to time major changes in the constitution and powers of the Corporation. The Madras Municipal Corporation Act, 1919 (as amended) provides the basic Statutory authority for the administration now.
