Its one of the best beaches no doubt. The place is surrounded by all types of eateries. The government has done amazing job in planning and development. But needs lots of cleaning at beach area and visitors need to be responsible too. You spend some quality time here.

Very beautiful place with spectacular panoramic sea view. It offers golden sands, clear blue water and very colorful sea shells. There is a very beautiful Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple nearby. Very peaceful feeling. We have visited this place multiple times. A must visit place in Chennai.

Edward Elliot's Beach, fondly known as "Bessie," is a hidden gem nestled along the picturesque coastline of Chennai, India. As an avid traveler seeking respite from the bustling city life, I recently visited this charming beach and found myself happy by its natural beauty and serene ambiance. With its pristine shoreline, azure waters, and peaceful ambiance, it's a perfect retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation. The beach offers mesmerizing sunrise, clean surroundings, and a children's park for family fun. Indulge in delicious seafood from the nearby eateries, take leisurely walks, or simply unwind under beach umbrellas. While lacking in extensive water sports, the beach compensates with its natural beauty and tranquility. Accessible and well-maintained, Edward Elliot's Beach promises a memorable coastal experience for locals and tourists alike. Scenic Beauty: The pristine stretch of golden sand, complemented by the azure waters of the Bay of Bengal, sets the perfect backdrop for a leisurely stroll or a serene moment of solitude. The beach is less crowded compared to its popular counterparts, making it an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and a chance to reconnect with nature. Cleanliness and Maintenance: Edward Elliot's Beach boasts excellent cleanliness and is well-maintained by the local authorities. The absence of litter and the regular cleaning efforts contribute to the overall pleasant experience of visiting the beach. The presence of dustbins at regular intervals encourages responsible waste disposal among visitors

This Elliot Beach is quite popular beach to the tourist after Marina beach , which has been named after the name of once chief magistrate and superintendent of police in colonial Madras. Situated on the south side of marina beach in in Besant Nagar area of Chennai. This beach is also known as Besant Nagar Beach or Bessie. Just nearby, there are the Annai Vailankanni Church and the Ashtalakshmi Kovil hindu temple. This Edward elliot beach is one of the safest and cleanest beach . stay almost crowded on the weekend days evening. This beach was the exclusive beach for white people during colonial rule . However, there are many food stalls around the beach . On the beach road there are a car and bike parking area too beside of a auto rickshaw stand . So you can come here from any where of the city either by car or bike or ola or uber or auto rickshaw very easily . It took about 20 minutes to come here from the triplicane area . There are also a memorial in the middle of the beach , called as Karl Schmidt memorial that has been named after the name of the Dutch sailor who lost his life trying to save a white girl from drowning. There no need to enter into the memorial , just can visit from outside for Instagram photo shoot. :-) . By the was there are no entry fee at this beach . You must visit this beach beside of marina beach .

Edward Elliot's Beach, simply called as Elliot's Beach and popularly known as Besant Nagar Beach or the Bessie, is a natural urban beach located in the Besant Nagar neighbourhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It is located next to the southern tip of the Marina Beach, and was named after Edward Elliot, a chief magistrate and superintendent of police of the Madras Presidency in colonial India. It has the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Health—also known as Annai Vailankanni Church—on its shore, and the Ashtalakshmi Temple nearby

Few beaches in chennai which are slightly less crowded 😀 The snack stalls do good business but also should think about cleanliness. Have few bins around and make the visitors not throw trash on the beautiful beach. Nice and cool in the summers after 5 pm

The beach was named after Edward Elliot who was the magistrate and police superintendent at the time of British rule. The beach is situated at South of famous Marina Beach. The beach is not so much crowded as Marina Beach and mostly young people visit this place. After the sunset this is a great place for hangout and enjoy the cool sea breeze and it gets too much crowd in the afternoon after sunset.

If you have a couple of hours to spare, spend it in Elliot's beach. It's a nice and clean beach. There are some activities young kids can participate in - balloon shooting, throw-a-ring etc. There are some stalls selling snacks like fried potato twisters, corn, peanuts. There are also some stalls selling sea food like king fish, prawns, crabs, squids etc. The fried squids were yummy. Close by, there are other food joints if you are not too keen on the stalls on the beach.

Great place to hangout with friends and family. Wonderful experience. But, some unconscious people coming from various areas have made the beach dirty by throwing papers, eatable things and many more. Please be conscious enough and if you are eating something please throw the waste on the dustbin (you will get to see nearby any shop situated there) Don't be lazy for it. Keep it clean 🙏👍

Good place to spend your time here, preferably in the morning for a peaceful walk, childrens will love the atmosphere in the evening, better to avoid this place on weekends, it is massively crowded and difficult to find parking space. Paid parking is available at the far corner near the church. Lots of eateries available on the beach side, better to order at a place you know.

Edward's Elliott Beach, Tamil Nadu, offers a serene coastal experience. Pristine shoreline with golden sands and clear waters. Peaceful ambiance perfect for relaxation and unwinding. Variety of local seafood options at nearby eateries. Limited amenities, ideal for those seeking a quiet getaway.

Best beach to relax with friends and family. Lots of food joints near beach. There is one arch constructed during British period. Crowded during weekends. Better to visit in week days for peaceful visit. Bajji, corn shops definitely one needs to try.

Fantastic place to declutter thoughts and bring a positive mindset. Watching the sea with Potato fries and mayonnaise adds much beauty. Good hotel availability in the Roadside and bus connectivity is also good. Rushed by people in the weekend eves. This beach was regarded as one of the cleanest beaches, but it's getting polluted in the recent days.

Yes, Alike others I would also suggest visiting this beach . It is not as long as the marina beach nor cleaner . Many Activities are there both for younger people and elderly . Even at one corner of the Entrance a man Sells tiny Aquariums with beautiful and colourful beta fishes (he sells only on sundays evening). The best part which I liked is you get lots and lots of options for every budget, even food vans. Nearby it has both Church and Temple to visit. As I went on the 1st of January so got to See fair with multiple rides, toys, haunted room, fish spa ect.. Which was icing on the cake.

A perfect example of human destruction. This is less looks like a beach and more looks like a place for throwing garbage. Very dirty beach. After seeing the beach your desire to have some fun will disappear. People are responsible for making this place dirty. There is a memorial on the beach.

Crowded but not as crowded as Marina Beach. As a malayali, must visit place. You will get the vibes of "Nadodikaatu". Dubaiof Dasan & Vijayan. You can eat all Street foods, play shooting, disk throw and other Street games. Enjoy sea and some good cafe near by too.

Always a favourite beach in the city. Well lit and lots of shacks around selling wares and eatables. Though the beach itself is quite big there is space for everyone even on a weekend evening, but just a word of caution - the roads around the beach get VERY crowded.

Once used to be a serene beach in Chennai where you could spend some quality time with family and friends, now turns out to be a crowded place much like Marina. Lot of food choices though much need to be decided on the quality especially those serving on the sands. Have not seen life guards though there was a decent crowd in the waters. One positive thing’s that there is a reasonably well maintained washroom on the beach, given the crowd, Corporation should add couple more such facilities. Still a great place in Chennai to spend an evening with friends and family. And safe as well, thanks to the constant vigil of Police.

One of the finest place in the Chennai to spend some quality time with friends or family..located near to the Besant nagar bus depot.. there is also a busstop near to the beach entrance... A place which can give relaxation when u r depressed... A place filled with local bajji shops and u can find fresh fish to eat... At weekend there will be thousands of people who spend their evening here.. there are many restaurants like Murugan idly shop; thalapakatti briyani; kfc here.. there were both church and hindu temple near to beach where u can pray all round the clock..

Beautiful, serene beach - Watching the morning sunrise here is worth waking up early for! The Karl Schmidt Memoral is especially a sight to behold - supposedly built in the memory of a Dutch sailor who saved a girl from drowning, but unfortunately lost his his life in the attempt. This beach is usually not as crowded as the other ones and is a great spot for taking photos. Definitely worth a visit!

Funniest Scenes of famous Malayalam movie NadodiKaatu was shot at this beach. Scenes of ‘Nadodikaatu’ movie on which deceived Dasan and Vijayn swimmig ashore from Gafoorka’s boat, thinking that they are entering Dubai are shot at this beach. Dasan and Vijayn changing their wet clothes to arabic attire behind this monument located at Besant nagar beach, chennai is one of the most popular scenes of Malayalam movie . Subsequently their funny encounter with smugglers and escaping from police is also shot in-front of this monument. This monument is known as ‘Schmidt memorial monument ‘ built in 1931, to commemorate a Danish Sailor Schmidt who died here while rescuing a British lady who was drowning in the sea. Lot of sea food shops and restaurants are there and beach is crowded. This beach is actually an extension of Marina beach which is one of the longest beach in world. Vehicle parking is also avilable. Annai VailanKanni Church is near to this beach. Schmidt memorial monument “ was recently renovated by authorities. Same like other parts of Marina beach Eliot’s beach is also heavily littered with corn husks, plastic etc , hope authorities and shopkeepers will take care of this..

It's really a very nice place Elliot's Beach (popularly known as "Besant Nagar Beach" or "Bessie") is located in Besant Nagar, Chennai, India. It forms the end-point of the Marina Beach shore, and is named after Edward Elliot, onetime chief magistrate and superintendent of police, Madras. It has the Velankanni Church and the Ashtalakshmi Kovil nearby. In the colonial era, it was a fairly exclusive place limited to white people. As of 2016, there are many restaurants near the beach. There is a police outpost at the beach and the crowd is policed by means of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) to prevent drowning mishaps. In 2010, there were 11 drowning cases reported off Elliots Beach.

Beach is definately good but I was disheartened to look at the plastic litter and filth all over the shoreline. Too many food joints and crowded most of the times.

Though a less crowded beach than Marina, Eliot has its own catch. Now named at Besant Nagar Beach, it attracts people because of the serene beauty and clean brown sands.

One of the big beaches next to Marina beach. It's good place to relax and enjoy the nature and take a dip in the sea. You can also have some eateries and indulge if you are a foodie. It's clean compared to other beaches.

One of the best place to spend weekends with family ! Only thing - Should provide trash cans in certain uniform distance for platics and other wastes to make the beach more clean and beautiful . ✨

  • 5/5 Vivek Prasanna V. 2 years ago on Google
Nice beach and popular after Marina to be with your friends and family.. Govt trying their best to keep it tidy and wish the public supports. You have lot of car parking and two wheeler parking dedicated 🅿️. You get cycles also for rent to take a ride in the beach road. Try some food snacks they are seems to be better as they depend their life's there and it will be par to any of your favourite road side vendors.. Yes let's support them and try few games like balloon shooting and ring games with your kids.. It's worth to try and spend some minimal money here than Fun zones at malls.. Lots of restaurants also to have quick bites, from burgers, juices, pizza 🍕 to South indian, veg and non veg dishes.

One of the attractive place in chennai. Place will be less crowd when compared marina. But only concern is about the cleanliness. Place is recommended for early morning sunrise with chill breeze and pleasant music of waves 😉. This is very peaceful beach. It is known for its calmness and peaceful atmosphere.. While there is a lot to see and enjoy - the food vendors with vege momos for 50rp, hot corn cobs, "spring" potato twists on a stick and bhaji; a beautiful blue sky; old style rides with even one spinning chair ride that was hand operated; families, couples and singles seeming to have a great time; the monument on the sand - there was also plenty to not love.

  • 3/5 Prashant C. 1 year ago on Google
Neatness missing. There are lots of eateries and games. But we see same varieties. Either food or games. One new attraction is 12D movie. Lot of litter every where. Tourists and authorities are to be blamed alike for the mess there. There are no dustbins. I don't think much is done to keep this place clean. Efforts should be taken to keep the place clean. Nice place but not well maintained. Cleanliness should be taken as everyone's responsibility.

One of the best beaches in Chennai, and infact my favourite beach, this place has golden sand which is quite unique compared to the other beaches in the city, the place is always happening as there are lot of cafes and restaurants in the beach road, one of the Porsche area in Chennai!

  • 4/5 Samanth N. 1 year ago on Google
The beach is very well maintained. The waves are calm and refreshing. One suggestion is to avoid coming during the mid day sun as it can lead to heat blisters very quickly.

Edwards Elliot's Beach also called Besant Nagar Beach. Local people don't know if you call by Elliot's Beach. They call it Besant Nagar Beach or Bessy Beach. It is approximately 10 km from Chennai Central Railway station. From there you can go by local bus also. Plenty of buses of available to reach this place. Besant Nagar Beach is also well known for its fisherfolk community. There is Ashta Lakshmi Temple on the bank of this beach. It is a very popular temple in Chennai. This is the best beach in Chennai. Atmosphere is really great. Very calm. Clean and neat. I love this beach. It is wonderful in the mornings and nights.
