It's my first time here in all these years 😅 I didn't have much expectations but the sambar was quite nice! We went for a long walk and stopped here for breakfast. The service was quick and given it to be a Sunday morning. The crowd pours in after 8 in the morning! They do have valet parking

Ratn a Cafe Adyar should pay attention to cleanliness and hygiene. We bought vada pav just now and we come home to open it to see a BIG INSECT embedded in the pav. Should the restaurant not be aware of this? Shame.

The coffee here can never disappoint you. I remember how often we used to drive all the way from OMR to just have the Ratna Cafe coffee. You just cannot stop at 1. Do not miss the Dal Wadai or Bhajji as your snacking option. The mystery also got resolved when I finally got the sambar on my table in a vessel. I never noticed them bring it at the ground floor, non AC space. I finally got to experience it in the AC space on the first floor. They also have the best idli in comparison to other restraints I’ve been to. Don’t miss asking for red chutney here.

I never visited this hotel since I came to Chennai 2006. It was my long plan to visit and taste the food at least once to know the flavour of Sambar. Fortunately I could find the hotel in Adyar itself. Today morning Myself and my kid came here to put some memories. I ordered sambar idli and my kid ordered dosa. Unexpectedly they served the sambar idli in the plate (on banana leaf) with half cup sambar. When I had my first bite, my total imagination went down. Actually I had similar kind of sambar in somany small shops in Chennai. Moreover I don't like that taste, it was little bit sweet and I can feel some raw masala smell. Then we ordered poori masala, nothing to say about this. Finally one cup coffee - good. Sambar idli -62 Poori masala - 72 (2 poori) Coffee - 35 Dosai - 74 When we compare the price, it is toooooooo costly (at least for me). Taste is also, not much unique. You can get the same taste in most of the affordable hotels. It was my long plan to taste the food. Finally it happened, and of course this is not my budget friendly hotel to regularly visit. Thanks for the memorie atleast.

Yesterday I was at Ratna Cafe located on Sardar Patel Road in Adyar for dinner with family. Thoroughly enjoyed the Idlis, Vada , Rava Dosa and Onion Uthappa along with the the signature Sambhar. Great Taste. Value for money. Parking is a constraint

Who misses Ratna Cafe, when some one says idli with mug sambar? Sumptuous idli sambar of Ratna Cafe is an ikon of Madras. I have been a regular customer since 1970s. Whenever I need to take a friend for BF or Dinner, my first choice is Ratna Cafe.... There are changes in management, taste of sambar, yet it is prestigious to have idly with mug sambar at Chennai.

Piping hot sambar idli, hot Kachori and double cofee… yum. Awesome food here.

I find this one as of the most dependable places for it's Food. Had tried the food here multiple times and it rarely disappointed, be it dine-in or delivery. I had tried the south Indian meals, Chinese combo, parota, rava dosa, Idly, Chola poori and every item was top notch. I was surprised they could make decently good dishes in varied cuisines. Being a south Indian Restaurant, I didn't except their Chola poori and Chinese combo to be good. And their signature Idly sambar is amazing - I would say, one of the best sambar I have had in Chennai. Service was a bit delayed and you need to follow up multiple times. I hope it continues to maintain it's consistency in taste and quality.

This restaurant still brings back the memory of my visit to the Triplicane branch. If you've idlis, sambar and chutneys tasting great all of them together will only be wonderful. That is how it is here. Super soft idlis doused in excellent sambar that gets filled to ensure the whiteness of idlis is never seen. Combine this with vada and pongal you get a sumptuous breakfast to start your day. Of course no trip to a south Indian restaurant is complete without a filter coffee and that was delivered perfectly. The service staff is super friendly and efficient.

The food was just okay, nothing unique or spectacular about it, it's also less in quantity for the price. The ambiance is also very plain. Ground floor without AC , and first floor with AC. They do have an elevator facility. The staff is good, courteous and quick.

Located opposite to Fortis under the Adyar bridge. The place doesn’t have a separate parking/ample parking. The food is good and the rates are pretty decent. Would definitely recommend this place for a South Indian breakfast

Had the usual idly-sambar here. It wasn't any good at all. The sambar seemed and tasted really old. They are definitely not able to maintain the good quality that was served once upon a time. Coffee was good!

Here Sambar is the king.Superb taste when soaked with idlis.You can have sambar without limitation.That old tradition of this hotel is kept up.Ordered puris.Two numbers were given.Good taste.Previously they were giving three,now reduced to two.Uthapam also was good.Staff is cooperative.I hope they will introduce millet varieties and coffee etc can be served with organic sugar or jaggery.On the whole a good experience

Idli Vada Sambar for breakfast. Need I say more about this awesome place for South Indian delicacies. Same authentic taste is maintained as the triplicane branch. A treat for Adyar residents for easy access. Valet parking available. AC seating available first floor and non AC ground floor. If it’s grounded suggest to go to non AC for quick service or the takeaway option. Overall an amazing place for South Indian breakfast.

When it comes to the taste can give 5 star and quality of the food is remarkable per the price but only thing is you have to wait for the food.

Authentic Sambar idly must taste. We cannot underestimate this restaurant offering on other cuisine as well. Check their favourite Chinese and tandoori items. Customer service is another best thing to mention. Steward Sharath takes care of customer with smile of course with mask.

Not much awesome when compared to triplicane branch ,.

Food taste is the same old great taste. However their responsibility towards hygiene is pathetic. We ordered for two lemon juices. In one of the glasses there was some green powdery stuff inside. When we showed it to the waiter, he promptly removed and replaced it with a clean glass. When we questioned him about the green stuff, he first said it was outside. Then we pointed out that the stuff was inside, that's when he quickly took the glass and replaced it. The other glass that he gave was also dirty, but no floating stuff. But still it was quite dirty. I have added pictures below, see for yourself. I would have given 4stars for the taste and one more for the nostalgia, but the desert killed it all. I hope they improve on their hygiene.

Sambhar idly 👌. Not the best sambar idly in town. Definitely some hotels tastes better than this, but the highlight is the unlimited sambhar refills, even before you think of asking it. That is the unique point here. Early morning beach walk and sambhar idly + Filter coffee would be bliss.

Trying to fit 22 tables, 100+ chairs in a 700sqft area is not at all cool! You might be best in sambar but you suck at hospitality. Two persons cannot cross at the same time in this place. YOU PEOPLE ARE GREEDY !!

Sambar was not upto the mark and the service was a little wanting. Had to remind multiple times for the food. Also the chutney quantity was miniscule and can be a little generous with that.

No Need for a review of this place. Amazing Sambar and Idly. No one can compete with their sambar taste. Also special mention to their Pippin hot Jilebis. It eas outta the world!

Very Expensive! Average ambience! Food tastes too good but very oily in the Adyar branch. The parking space is less and I struggled to park my bike. Overall it will be a treat for vegetarians

Must visit if you love can of sambar for just 2 idlys and vada. They have recently started the north Indian and other options. Do not miss the Malai broccoli starter. You will thank me for that. Parking is a mostly vallet parking. Nowadays getting crowded easily on weekends.

Poor customer service. Even after 15 minutes no body cared to ask. One guy even walked past without answer after asking. Sad day for a customer! However there were few management people in the kitchen today chit chatting without masks. Hygiene is poor, no care for Covid. Better to avoid during Pandemic.

Went to the best beach with my daughter and mom again. It was a Monday but still places were crowded. After spending time in the beach, we decided to have dinner outside. Our choices were a thattukadai near bessy, Ratna Cafe or A2B. I chose Ratna Cafe. Since the ground floor was crowded and stuffy we went to the first floor (which was A/C). We ordered a plate of Idly (Mom), a plate of Rava Dosai (LO) and fried podi idly (me). Another Rava Dosai parcel for my dad and two icecreams. Didn't taste the idly so can't comment. The rava dosai was yellow in colour at first look it looked like it was besan dosa. But it was crunchy and yummy. Way too much chillies though. Don't order for kids if they can't handle their spice. The fried podi mini idly was a shocker. I love podi idlies. I guess there would have been about 15 - 16 mini idles roughly. The taste also wasn't that great. There was a hint of a slight curry taste which was the only thing I liked about it. The shocker was it was priced at 160/- Rs. Idly - 75/- Rava Dosai- 92/- Fried Podi Idly - 160/- Butterscotch Icecream - 85/- Chocolate Icecream - 80/- Rava Dosai (Parcel) - 95/- Total bill came upto 612/- with GST. Not too sure about whether the price range is suitable or not. I think its also because the A/C floor charges on the higher end. All the same it was an okayish experience. We've previously had food from Ratna Cafe and it surely wasn't this costly. Maybe we need to upgrade ourselves.

This place is just opp the Aavin park in the turning. Due to this parking is slightly difficult during peak times. Ground floor no AC. Coffee and snacks were good but it took some time to be delivered. Veg tiffin items should be tried. Ambience not great. Rest room in ground floor not good. Restroom in Saravana Bhavan are really well maintained. Customers coming to refresh restroom is a deal breaker

This shop is located in the triangular junction in Adyar opposite Fortis…. It’s a small outlet which could be better maintained if put the proper effort!!! Parking would be a problem in busy hours!!! The waiter was a bit callous and stern… the food was above average as u would expect in Ratna cafe !!!

The place is very popular for its authentic South Indian food. The place is precisely located and offers a wide variety of items mainly for South Indian cuisine. You should try their ghee Pongal, Masala dosa, and different types of idlies.

Really the service was good enough. And food is not worth the hype and it's not worth for what we had paid for it. Over rated one. Try only sambar idly don't try any chat items there i ordered dhai papadi chat, the yogurt which they served was not good. It's tastes like old. So I don't suggest anyone to choose chat there.

I visited this branch and was in love with it after my first bite. The taste of SAMBAR is mouth watering. You will literally drink sambar from the plate ( I'm not exaggerating). The staff here are super friendly and service here is also good. They have a small outlet of sweets and savories outside, which are also tasty. Parking is a lil bit problem. Except that, everything is perfect here.

We had idly, vada, onion rava dosa, onion uttapam and Pongal. Everything was really good.. sambhar was served really hot n well. Ofcourse it’s not the same as it used to be in 2000’s… but compared to other Branded restaurants in Chennai, I think this restaurant serves the breakfast really well with good taste. We must definitely stop the comparison and have the food without any expectations. It’s a premium restaurant and serving its purpose well from valet parking, hygienic service, paper cups, food on banana leaf, wooden spoon, hot water… filter coffee was good and apt.. definitely must try … 😊

This is a nice vegetarian restaurant located in Adyar. Had been here on a Sunday morning and found it to be pretty crowded. The restaurant was very clean and well-maintained. The sambar vada and dosa were really tasty. Service was very good. On the ground floor, they have a section selling sweets. There is space just outside their building to park bikes. Cars could be parked on the road, a little ahead of the restaurant.

Boiled bater called Idli and this is the only place on the earth you can consume with litres of sambar. Order two idlis and keep drinking sambar. It gives different kind of high. Also try plain rava dosa. Remember to take the first bite with sambar and try with different chutneys. For a pure vegetarian it's a blessing, even Jain type of cooking is available. Though centrally cooked, the sambar is class apart with age old secret recipe.

I went here for breakfast . Ratna cafe is one of my favourite among other veg restaurants because of their sambar idly and ghee roast. If you have fond for sambar idly and ghee roast then this place is must try one. Their service was quick and ambience was as simple like normal restaurant with ac sittings

This authentic South Indian restaurant of famous Triplicane Rathna Cafe . Good to see Rathna Cafe is reinventing , actually I have always enjoyed them from my childhood, the best is their Sambhar Idly and vadai. This restaurant has an array of sweets for our taste buds, and spacious. Very near to adyar signal. The sweets like Indrani and Raj bhog stand out.

This place is simply awesome. They have valet parking. Quality and taste of food is very good. I would prefer Idly over dosa even though am a dosa savy. Dosa is very usual. But Idly is simply awesome. There trademark sambar steal the show.
