The experience of watching movie under the open sky is no where close to what you get at multiplexes. Absolutely fantastic!!

The place is lovely with great acoustics even though it's open air. The gallery is just cement steps which can get a little difficult after 3 hours or so. Probably not the best place to be from April to say October.

Watched PS2 movie here. Wonderful experience to watch the movie under the moonlight. Amazing open theater experience. Ticket cost just Rs. 45 and the show started exactly at 8 PM, Snacks and beverages cost also very less. Picture and sound quality are excellent. MUST VISIT PLACE.

The open air theatre is the place where most of the cultural shows are hosted at IIT Madras. It's an amphitheater with steps for general seating. In the centre there's space for additional seating that's big enough to hold basketball matches. Movies are screened for staff and students regularly. Many of the professional shows during the annual cultural festival are arranged here. It's also a versatile venue for reunions and special dinners.

A giant wall has been the sole witness to seasons of the year and scores of IITians who graduate from Chennai every year. This long-standing wall, kissed by the pokey branches of trees on either side, and embraced by the hum of the wind, lights up once every week with moving images that cast luminous shadows on its spectators. It is often said that cinemas offer the means to a community-watching experience.

Open air theatre as the name suggests is an open theatre with capacity of around 10k. There's huge crowd witnessed here during the annual technical and cultural fests. There's movie screening on every Saturday. It's ideal for a high level music concert, dance shows as well as movie screening.

Every Saturday at 8PM, a recently released movie is played on the big screen at open air theater (OAT). English, along with regional language movies, are screened. One can purchase a 3-month pass or can pay per each movie they watch. Two variants of seats: seating on chairs (which faculty and their family generally prefers) and seating on steps (which generally students prefer). Cultural fests and live concerts are organized here. A small popcorn and snacks shop is located inside the OAT. Bicycle parking is available, and bikes and cars must be parked a little away.

An open air theatre in IIT Madras, screens newly released movies every Saturday at 8pm. Open for students, staff and faculty of IIT Madras. For guests, they charge 30/- per ticket.

Great open air theatre. They've paid attention to details such as the curve of the screen, surround sound and 2k projection. I was told the speakers were made and assembled by the students of IIT Chennai themselves. The sound quality is amazing considering that. Equivalent to any commercial cinema - at least that's the case with the Center, Center-left and Center-right channels. There are 6 surrounds mounted on towers in an arc around the auditorium, a little screechy to the ears but gives you a good pan effect. LFEs are given by 4 subwoofers clustered up together as one to amplify the bass, between the Centre and Cente-left channels. Image quality is no less than a 2k commercial projector like Barco or Christie. I wonder if the audio is processed only in DTS or Dolby 5.1.

Watch movie screening under the stars, surrounded by forest. Quite new realeases are screened in this theatre every week Saturdays night start at 8pm. A great leasure for IIT Madras students and township residents.

Our Open Air Theatre is inspired by the Roman amphitheatre with a similar design and a seating capacity of 6000. We gather there every Saturday at 8pm for a movie screening, in which a movie of choice is projected onto a massive wall by a 2K Digital projector. The way we choose the movies is also pretty interesting. It's a democratic process, and surveys are circulated in which students vote for the next movie that should be screened! The OAT is also the venue of many pro-shows during Saarang and Shaastra, and has seen many electric performances from artists including KK, Shaan, Shankar Ehsaan-Loy, Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan, and even international artists like Marnik, AronChupa and Maddix

Curved screen bigger than multiplex screen, high quality videos, surrounding sounds with high quality.... Mood relaxing place.... You will forget about your course tension when you will here.... And the guys will make the mahaol here 😀

it is an open air theater, not advised fir rainy season unless you have a very good immune system and a high tolerance for getting wet.
