A beautiful Masjid with heart touching art on the walls and minarets. Peshawar’s finest mosque, the Mahabat Khan mosque, is a 17th century religious building with a lavish interior consisting of a prayer hall with floral and geometric designs painted on the wall and a centrally located ablution pool. It is named after the Mughal king of the region at the time. The interior of the prayer hall is sheltered beneath three low, fluted domes and is eloquently painted with floral and geometric designs. Beautiful mosque. I am much impressed by the interior simplicity and classical arts on the wall of mosque.

Gorgeous mosque in Peshawar. The mosque was built in 1630, and named after the Mughal governor of Peshawar, Nawab Mohabat Khan Kamboh, father of Nawab Khairandesh Khan Kamboh. Its white marble façade is considered to be one of Peshawar's most iconic sights.

Beautiful art design and top of the mosque is covered by three fluted domes, while two tall minarets stand on each flank of the main hall. It’s built in 1630’s my Mughal architecture. The mosque is open to tourist every day from sunrise till sunset, except during the prayers timings and specially the afternoon Friday prayers.

Mughal Era Masjid, built during 17th century by Mughal Governor Mahabat Khan. It's under preservation/renovation program by Archeological Department of The Provincial Government. It's open for 5 times a day prayers and is always very crowded during Friday Zuhur Prayer.

The Mahabat Khan Mosque (Urdu, Pashto: مہابت خان مسجد) is a 17th-century mosque in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is named after theMughal governor of Peshawar Nawab Mahabat Khan who served under Emperors Shah Jehan and Aurangzeb and who was the grandson of Nawab Dadan Khan (a former governor of Lahore). The name of the Masjid and the governor who built is often mispronounced as 'Muhabbat Khan' ('Love Khan') by the public majority instead of the correct pronunciation 'Mahabat Khan' ('Awe-inspiring Khan'). The Mosque was built in 1630. Its open courtyard has a centrally-located ablution pool and a single row of rooms lining the exterior walls. The prayer hall, flanked by two tall minarets, occupies the west side. According to the turn-of-the-century Gazetteer for Pakhtunkhwa, the minarets were frequently used inSikh times ‘as a substitute for the gallows’.

Wonderful experience!, witnessing the great Mughal Architectural designs of 18th century. A must go place for people like me who are Heritage worms❤️. I loved the way the Mughals built the mosque with brilliant designs combining Persian, Turkish and Indian architecture. Some renovation work is still going on so it would be better to wait for some months as the mosque is restored to it's original beauty 🙂.

This is famous and historical Mosque in Peshawar city built during the Mughal era by Mughal governor Nawab Mahabat Khan in 1630, the construction style of the Mosque is similar to Wazir Khan masjid in Lahore. Despite the similarity, the Mosque is beautiful and decorated, nowadays renovation is going on the right side but still open for prayers and visit.

Its Gandhara museum. Best place around if you are fan of history and culture. Great bhuddhist artwork dating back to Gandhara civilisation is the main attraction. Me and my friend loved the wide range of display of Buddhist era. The sculptures show different stories, lifestyle, miracles, symbols and much more. Other sections exhibit calligraphy, persian artwork, picture gallery, traditional jewelry, crockery, weapons, clothing and etc. Highly recommend to all the travelers to pay a visit. This place will leave you mesmerised. P.S photography is officially allowed against a small extra fee. Videos are not allowed though. There is a discount on museum ticket if you show your student card.

This mosque is really old and when you enter the praying area and when you look up towards the ceiling, it's such a nostalgic ride. The mosque has 3 main entrances from all sides of bazaars in Peshawar. Not much tourist traffic but it's worth visiting and the administration should pay attention to it's preservation.

It could be made better... Peshawar is an ancient city... it must have more to offer. The current exhibits are Buddhas, some from the British Raj, Quran scripture, etc. The have some QR code to explain the history but no guidance is provided at the entrance. There is no cafe or tuck shop. They may have an elevator but I did not see one. Overall an below average place to visit for the sake of it... it could be made much much better. KPK and Peshawar has rich history and lots more to offer.

The heritage trail begins at the historical Ghanta Ghar. Visitors can then walk through Bazaar-e-Kalan and the Sethian Mohallah — a once upscale neighbourhood of the city which houses palatial wooden havelis built by the Sethis in 1882. It culminates at the archaeological complex of Gor Gathri, which was used by the Italian mercenary general Paolo Avaitable as his residence during the period when Sikhs ruled the city. The complex also houses Serai Jahandad. which has been converted into an artisan village, a 17th century Hindu temple and a British-built fire brigade with two vintage fire engines dating back to 1912. The mosque was built between 1660 and 1670, on what was the highest point in the old city. The minarets of the Mohabbat Khan Mosque were frequently used in Sikh times for hanging prisoners. Five people per day were hanged from the minaretes,as a substitute for the gallows’.Following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, refugee tribal elders would congregate in the mosque in order to forge unity amongst Afghans against the Soviets.

"When You Don't Follow A Society Or Community Ethical, Cultural, And Religious Norms And Values. Not Only Men But Even Women Of That Society Will Stare At You. Why? Because Psychologically You Interfered And Disrespected The Boundaries Of That Society. This Is Human Nature And This Happens Anywhere In Any Part Of The World." I took my family after reading a review here that mentioned, "Saddened to see some men's stared" I kept 1 KM distance from them and left them like as they came along. They were busy taking pics and discussing the place's history while I was observing. What saddened us was the lie that reviewer wrote to millions of tourists who planned to visit this historical place. Because I found no men stared them and we visited the place respectfully wearing a normal dress. Almost anyone was found to be more hospitable than what the reviewer spoke. "When You Respect Someone's Cultural And Ethical Values. You Will Receive The Same Respect In Response As Well." "When You Focus On Who Is Staring At You, How Men Or Women Of This Place Are. You Receive The Same Thing Because You Believed In It." Sadly, after Badshahi Mosque Lahore where a group of local women disrespected the boundary of Masjid and foreigners visited it at the same time was fully covered. Now the same kind of brainless visited this place and misunderstood the tourists who will come to it. Focus matters!! We never experience such a thing here even we move out to a bazaar and bought so many things. No men stared at my family. Almost everyone was amazing being hospitable. Our new generation especially the community of so-called women empowerment took the concept to another level and spitting hate against anyone anywhere without respecting the boundaries. The same thing we observed here too. My foreign friend was shocked at some local visitors who were disrespecting the boundaries and we did saw men not only but women staring at them. I hope this review clears the misconception for tourists planned to visit and never takes the comment too seriously from a reviewer who came from Lahore and respected those boundaries. Masjid Mohabbat Khan along with other places is a must-see especially for International tourists who are eager to learn and wants to know the place's history. But not locals of this country Pakistan who poke and mock peoples culture, religion and ethical values only.

MAHABAT KHAN MOSQUE | 17th century Masjid (Mosque) buit in 1630 and named after a mughal emperor - Mahabat Khan in Peshawar 🇵🇰. It is being restored, but still open for prayers. The tile work on the inside and the stained glass on the doors are beautiful.

17th century Mughal era Mosque built by Governor of Peshawar Nawab Mahabat Khan hence named as Mahabat Khan Mosque. The best time to visit Mosque is after Fajar prayer (around 7-8 PM), the surrounding market is not fully opened hence you can easily visit the place. The architecture is really beautiful, the authorities are working on restoration but the restoration work is not according to the standards (I think some of the responsibility is on tourists as well to not destroy things).
