Pretty remarkable that this was built so many years ago and still operates today. Lots of people come from around the world to see it. There's a tunnel underneath that you can drive through and it's a must to blare your horn and accelerate as you pass through.

It was my birthday and was an incredible experience, learning about the locks, how they work, the hydronic cylinders, and the system. My partner was right it was better than having balloons, flowers and just sitting blowing candles . It was the first time I have ever seen such a system. Best ever birthday !!

Don't come to this area often enough but when I do I have a blast. Great area to visit and see how the locks work. It's amazing. I lucked in this trip and got to see about 60 kayakers taking a trip up the Trent.

This place is fantastic in the winter. The ice is great, lots of room for everyone to enjoy and its blocked from the wind as the ice is down in the waterway. The ice is maintained well and lots of parking around for everyone. Plan to visit next winter for sure.

Very nice and unique experience at the locks. Didn't quite know what to expect but it was very cool to see the infrastructure in action. Peterborough is also a beautiful place and the waters were so lovely and calm.

A perfectly photogenic location for a sunny day in fall. If you time it right, you can bathe in the yellow glow of the fall canopy and carry the memory for a long time. The 100+ year old liftlock marvel is an added bonus.

We had a good time on the Lift Lock Cruise in Peterborough. Seeing the World's highest hydrolic lift lock was amazing. Being over a hundred years old and still working. Over 77ft lift up in total was epic to experience! Definitely recommend seeing this historical wonder of Canada πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ πŸ‘Œ πŸ‘ πŸ˜€

Stopped here to visit this landmark on a road trip. The facility was closed for the season however the park was beautiful and we enjoyed a picnic. The waterway is impressive and we enjoyed walking around. The only thing missing were garbage cans anywhere in the park.

A hidden gem, national historic site. The locks are pretty impressive and the walk along the canal is very refreshing. We enjoyed the lowering and lifting of the locks and makes it even more spectacular when you know it was built in 1904

Over 100 years of history wrapped up in this mechanical marvel. Tallest lock in the WORLD!! The speed of the links is much faster than I expected and it's a great place to bring a picnic! GORGEOUS view from up top!!

The gentlemen who are operating the locks were amazing folks. They went out of their way to explain to us about how these locks operate. They also had little gifts for the children. Will definitely visit again. Such a beautiful location

Highest hydraulic lift lock in the world. Very impressive!

  • 5/5 William H. 2 years ago on Google
Well worth a visit even if only as a spectator and not "locking through". Quite a marvel of engineering considering it's age of over one hundred years. Some decent geocaching too if that's your thing...

It's ok. Very hard to get help

  • 5/5 stacey m. 1 year ago on Google
What a great experience at the lock on Saturday. It's such a marvel! Almost 70 kayakers went through together as part of an event. The staff were so kind and also funny! They were very accommodating to us. Thanks for a great time!

A Canadian icon. So cool to see it in person. Unfortunately it wasn’t working when i was there. But a great spot for a picnic and people watching.

Such a historic place to visit. So many stairs will await you. I'm proud of myself for concurring all of them. I wish the museum would have been opened.

  • 5/5 Mike F. 2 years ago on Google
More fun than I expected - pretty cool to see the locks in action, but just in general it's in a nice spot, plenty of green space, picnic tables, ample parking, and not too far removed from town. Definitely a good spot for a summer afternoon

Cute little place, great history and wonderfully peaceful to just watch. Part of a long-standing tradition of my family to visit here.

Incredible technology. A large houseboat heading one way and two little kayaks heading the other. Beautiful parkland along the way. Easy to find. Easy to park.

This place is imposing! So beautiful, so massive, peaceful and historic as well. The lift-lock is a great piece of technology. I visited early in October and autumn colours were everywhere. I was in my way to Algonquin so this place was in my way and I totally recommend it as a pit stop on your journey. The channel at the park is also beautiful, wide and there are fish there. Well maintained, cleared, there are some picnic tables one could use and it is so popular that tourist buses also stop there. You could also climb to the top of the lift-lock which I recommend, for a killer view of the site and the lock itself, just be careful because the stairs are steep and elder visitants may find it difficult. There is no entrance fee to this park or any fee at all, parking is available also free of charge (this is not Toronto, remember?) But maybe in high season it must be busy. A very worthy point of interest if you are around this area.

Captain Jody is very entertaining during his commentary & interaction with passengers! Whole crew is friendly & attentive & helpful with my mobility & passengers in general. I would highly recommend this cruise for everyone including disabled persons.

Amazing feat of construction. The Peterborough lift lock was completed in 1904 and is the worlds highest hydraulic lift lock. I recently participated in the lock and paddle β€˜23. It was an awesome experience. The staff are super friendly. They answered all my ridiculous tourist questions. Lmao.

Although we didn't get to see the lift locks in action with the boats as it was after hours, it was still very interesting walking around and checking everything out. Nice pathways along the water for a great evening walk.

Was one of the first hydro vertical lifts. I've been thru as boater. Very thrilling. Professional staff on locks

Awesome free, outdoor, socially-distanced activity. Watched the locks do 2 transfers from several viewpoints. Such cool engineering.

  • 5/5 Reza S. 3 years ago on Google
An amazing piece of engineering which only works with water weight and pressure.

  • 4/5 Anne K. 3 years ago on Google
Interesting place. The lock is very high and works with an hydraulic lift. Worth waiting until boats are being lifted. There are lock cruises which go up and down the canal. Operates since 1904...a must see if you are in Peterborough!

An amazing engineering masterpiece. One of a handful left in operation. My son thought it was a really old jail lol. We traveled to Peterborough by car and we had a look at the area. Walking along the waterfront and ate lunch. Seen some locals fishing and my daughter loved the ducks. Nobody traveled through the locks today so my kids couldn't see it in action. I have been through here on multiple occasions in boats and experienced this marvel in motion. You can even drive through the bottom of the lock to go the the other side and get a different perspective of it. There are offices on this side that can provide information as well.

Beautiful place to sit and watch the lift lock. Quiet, great scenery. One of the best things to do in Peterborough.

Louis Riel - The sign here says "intense negotiations with Ottawa" They hung him. The crown gave away someone elses land and used an army to crush the ney sayers. I guess just double check anything you read but the place was aesthetically nice.

Beautiful historic place especially love it for Fall Colors

  • 4/5 Artem G. 4 years ago on Google
Awesome place to visit, the staff is super friendly and talkative. In in the last week of August you can come checkout the annual kayaking festival. They go up stream up and then down. Everyone has colourful kayaks and families decorate them. After the event people party and camp out beside it.

Went here with a couple friends local to the area and it was a great place to play with the puppy. The views are great, especially in the fall. However this time of year there's not much to do or look at other than the trees changing colors. If you're looking for somewhere to exercise there are a ton of stairs you can run up and down.

Really neat to see in operation. The visitor centre was closed - the easy road being taken. This was more than compensated for by the enthusiastic education given by the operators. One experienced gent in particular, took considerable care and time to teach the three of us all about how it works, and went WAY above the call to teach and engage a seven year old. Thank you! Parks Canada: you've got a great team at Lock 21. Thank you!

It is a beautiful spot. In the summer months the waterway is busy with boats, and the winter is filled with skaters on the ice. The fall the locks stand out with the colour of the trees. Definitely worth a stop when your in Peterborough
