Enormous park with lots of trails for biking, hiking, and dog walking. I especially loved the canoe rental. Highly recommend getting a couple hours worth of time to see it all. We even spotted a majestic bald eagle while canoeing. Our friends rented a paddle boat. Pro-tip: if you want calm and quiet, don't rent a paddle boat. In addition to being difficult to maneuver, they're loud! All park staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. 🙂 If you decide to visit this or any VA state park frequently, buy a park pass online to save on parking costs.

This review is for the Aquatic Center. Great water park for my 3 and 6 year old. There are separate pools: 1.5' baby pool, 6 foot pool, 3 foot pool, and knee deep splash park with tube slides, underwater tunnels, dump buckets, etc. The big slides and spray ground are closed for repairs as of 7/6/22 and apparently have been for a while but it didn't matter for us. The splash pad was one of the best I've seen this summer. There's a snack bar with pizza, nachos, hotdogs, ice cream, candy and chips, bottled drinks. They accept credit at the snack bar and also for admission. Entry to Pocahontas State Park fee is per car and then admission to the pool is $8/adult and $7 kids 3-12. Down the hill from the pool is a lake where you can rent paddle boats and canoes by the hour. Super fun too.

Even with living in Richmond my whole life I have never been to this park. My husband and I went for some easy hiking and the park delivered. They have great walking trails but what’s really awesome is the extensive bike trails they offer. There are even bike trails that are not to be used for hiking and vice versa. We spent several hours trail walking and barely scratched the surface of what the park offers. We will definitely be back and we already scoped out the camping sites for our favorites.

I'm delighted to live so close to this beautiful park. Lots of mountain bike trails that seem to be never-ending. Access to drop in kayaks and paddleboards. There a newly renovated water park. Staff are always friendly and helpful.

Great park all around. We have been here a few times. There are beautiful trails, kayaking, aquatic center, restroom, kids play area, many grilling and covered picnic spots and many more fun things to do. Pedal boating is great fun too, we enjoyed amazing view of lilies growing in some areas of lake. It was such a delightful sight. This was from a few years ago.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Pocahontas State Park. We rented the cabins. Entrance fees are reasonable and park staff very helpful. There are a lot of small and larger trails. The lake is quiet and lots of natural views. We saw people paddle boating, kayaking and saw a few people fishing as well. The lake area is quaint and peaceful. There is also swimming pool enough to keep the kids occupied. I believe it is in the park property and people who rent cabins etc get a discount on the entry fee. The campground is well organized with barbecue grills, camp fire. Each campground had 5-6 cluster of cabins with 1-4 bunk beds. Its bare minimum but just perfect for camping. Toilets with showers are close by to the cabins. Definitely a perfect place to enjoy the nature, hike, boat or bike. We definitely had a good time and enjoyed our visit. Also for some reason there were not a lot of mosquitoes in early August but I did see a few dear running around.

My husband and I decided to stay in the park while attending a wedding that was being held there instead of a local hotel. It was such a new and awesome experience! It was different from our normal tent camping, but so worth it! We even checked in late after hours and they had our info packet posted with everything we needed to access the yurt! Park restrooms and showers were very clean and every morning without fail a ranger was cleaning them. Staff was super friendly and the park is beautiful. Finished off the trip with a morning hike on the trails. Such a great glamping experience at Pocahontas State Park and can’t wait to come back!

This is our second time staying here and it’s definitely worth the 5 stars. We stayed in lot 115 and we love that site! Nice and spacious on the end, we had room for our tent to sit in as well as our giant movie screen. Equipped with a laundry room (2washers & 2 dryers.. & 1 commercial washer and dryer. There is a change machine inside the laundry room as the machines only take quarters. ($2.00/wash $ $1.50/per drying load. There is also a soap dispenser in case you forget you detergent inside the laundry room(all, tide, snuggle and oxiclean. There is also a vending machine inside laundry room with snacks only no drinks. There is a camp store attached to the laundry room with very limited hours and very limited items. There is a very nice water park with 3 pools(1ft) (3.5ft) & a (5ft) all outdoor. There hours are 11-6 during the week and 11-7 during the weekend. There is also a splash pad just to get wet. The water park and pools are heavily guarded with life guards to make sure everyone is safe. There is also a water slide for the older adults and children. Only downfall to the water park was disrespectful people walking around in thongs(this is a family water park and I don’t enjoy seeing someone’s butt hanging out with my kids.) I also talked to a staff member that said weekends were the worst times to go as people are walking around smoking pot and barely wearing anything. (Again this is a family water park people should really be considerate.) They also allow outsiders to pay to use the pools/water park which I don’t think is fair cause it takes away from the campers that are staying on the property. Water park passes are included with your overnight camping stay. There were several bus loads of children, that were being dropped off. The park can get very busy which I why we always went early. I think they should have a separate day to allow the general public to pay and utilize. They also have a nice playground for the kids. Overall had a good stay and will definitely be coming back.

I went there to be at my daughter's company party. We were at shelter 5. There are at least 9 shelters. The shelter site had BBQ pits, water that the kids and adults enjoyed using to fill squirt guns on a hot August day. Each shelter is completely surrounded by woods. This is an 8000 acre park with lakes for fishing. One of the office workers showed pictures of catfish he and his son caught. There is a gift shop with most of the things a person would need for a camping trip.

Absolutely loved our stay in the brand new cabins. The view of the lake made it so peaceful and having all of the amenities of home was amazing. Can't wait to return!

Love this campground, large sites. 50 amp, water, pull through and back-in sites. Virginia State Parks are the best.

Great park all around, and not too many bugs (I think.) There's something for everyone, biking, kayaking, you name it. Really nice Bbq spots with most areas fitting up to 30 people. Camping is nice and really well organized, although some campsites can be very close to each other. The entrance fee you pay is fair and boat rental prices are affordable. Every week there's some kind of event going on. Enjoy your stay!

Loved my first visit to Pocahontas SP. I was surprised at how empty it was for a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I only had time for about an hour hike so I picked the Beaver Lake trail hike which was about a 2.5 loop. It was scenic, it was interesting. Overall, really enjoyed it.

A jewel near to us, with great staff, and lots of awesome options. They offer hiking, biking, kayaking and camping, for individuals, and also groups... We had a great time, and vow to make better use of this local treasure.

Pocahontas is a must visit place located in the heart of chesterfield county. It’s a beautiful state park that’s easy to miss but once your inside you feel a hundred miles away from anything. The park caters to tent campers, rv’s, cabin camping and some cool yurts. There’s miles of trailers to hike smoky a river and mountain biking for beginners to experts. We took the family summer camping in our rented rv and had a blast. With the six of us there’s was plenty to do like kayaking, hiking, building fires in the fire pit and much more. Overall we made memories which is what getting outdoors is all about. The park has a great nature center to learn about conservation and the wildlife includes in the park. The rangers are all very nice and the facilities are clean with bathroom and showers separated. Go visit Pocahontas State Park by yourself or with family and friends. We will be back soon.

I recently moved to this area & finally got to check this beautiful park out for a day of kayaking. This place is HUGE! I have my own kayak but I noticed you can rent canoes, kayaks & paddle boats there. There is also a community pool. I paid $7 for entry on a weekday. I'll definitely be going back!

The park was easy to find. It is located about 4.5 miles west of Chesterfield on Rt 655. There is pavement all the way including in the park. Signage is adequate. Check in was efficient and friendly. The rules are fairly basic. The interior roads are paved and in good condition. Our site, 03, was a graveled drive thru that was plenty long enough for our Coach and Towed. Services (30 amp and water only) were to the left side. Distancing is good for a rural park. All sites had a vegetation privacy barrier. Each site has a table and a fire pit and a level spot to pitch a tent on. Sadly, that was the only area that was somewhat flat on our site. We had to add blocks under our auto leveling legs to get our coach somewhat level. Both of our left side wheels were off the ground. Luckily, because the left side was raised, our entrance step (on the right side) was still easy to access. We did not see many sites that were level. Who ever designed the park had no concept of what an RV site should be like. There is NO park included wifi or cable TV. We did not find any OTA channels. Satellite might be difficult. We did not use the washrooms or showers but we checked and found them clean. There are trails around and within the park as well as other amenities on site but we used the park only as a base to visit attractions in Richmond.. There are no restaurants or stores within easy walking distance but just a short drive away you can find food, shopping and convenience stores. We found this park to be a fair overnighter. We paid $40.00 per night plus tax and we feel we received fair value. We will be back if in the area again but with luck we would be in a more level site.

We loved this park! Great campsites, trails, and plenty to explore. We had to leave a review after meeting Twila in the Camp Store. She is the kindest and friendliest person we have ever met at at any park (and we have been to 45 of the 66 National Parks). Also, loooove the firewood volunteers! Less waste for a bundle of wood :) thanks for making local wood from park possible!

Beautiful park for hiking or biking. The trails are well maintained and it provides excellent obstacle trails for mountain biking. Nice areas all around with kayaking, canoeing and paddle boating available for rent. Gazebos available for picnics, and sone areas even have bike pumps. Some areas are very peaceful with wonderful views. Highly recommended and will certainly be back.

I went for the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics. Speaking only from that experience, it's a very beautiful park and really, the water wasn't that cold. I'd give the river a 10/10.

Wide roads, some pull through sites, nice spacing/privacy in between the majority of the sites. My site (107) was almost level & had plenty of space for tents if you wanted. My 20 travel trailer and P/U truck fit with room to spare. A fair amount of multiple use, hiking, and MTN bike trails. The pool area was great! There is three pools in one area with one being dedicated to the kiddos. The camp store was tiny, but hey it was there. Theres a (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corps museum & according to the Ranger the only one in the state. The Verizon signal was pretty good, but I couldnt get a t.v. signal even with my boosted antenna? If you need supplies a super market and some fast food places are pretty close by.

We needed a place to camp for the night and Pocahants State park was perfect. Upon arrival I met Blake, who checked me in and was so kind and personable. We drove through to our pull-through site, which was asphalt and level and provided water and electric. There was also a picnic table, fire pit, and blocked off gravel tent area. All the sites had plenty of space between sites so you’re not right next to your neighbor. They also had a few sites that would be great for two or three families wanting to camp together. While we weren’t able to have a fire due to high winds, they sell firewood cut from trees that have fallen in the park. All proceeds go back into the park. There are several restrooms, all clean, and many playgrounds. They have great hiking and bike trails that are all well maintained. While we only stayed the night, we will be making reservations next spring to stay longer. One of the best maintained state parks we’ve been to.

This is our second visit to the park. We stayed here last year on our way to Washington D.C. We are repeating that trip this year and decided to stay here for an extended stay of 4 nights. The fall colors are great and getting better. We met a wonderful lady named Robin at the Camp Store. She was very helpful and friendly. We arrived late, but here at Pocohontas State Park that is not a problem. They create packets for the expected arrivals with all your information needed to identify you have arrived and occupied your site.

Trails were in great shape and the foliage still showing so e color with lots of leaves. Other hikers are usually families or dog lovers, so expect some passing by others on your hike. All pets were well behaved. Fun to hike and walk out on a floating pier during our hike on the beaver lake trail. Several benches along the hike are great spots if looking for a picnic spot. And our dogs like it too! Great loop for young or less traveled hikers.
