This was an absolute highlight of our vacation. The garden has approximately 50 acres of land filled with an exceptionally diverse plant catalog with a Children’s Garden, a Butterfly Garden, multiple children playgrounds, refreshment areas, and other hands-on activities. The staff are very friendly and attentive as well. There’s plenty of free parking and the prices are extremely reasonable. This is a definite must visit when you are in Richmond!

Admission was free on Labor Day, walking through the entire garden took around 2 hours, stopping several times to take in the scenery. This is one of the most family-friendly places I've visited, the park is filled with high-quality experiences for children. For 96° summer afternoons, water and sun protection are a must! Some highlights for me were the live music performance at the historic Bloemendaal house, the Incanto sculptures by Kate Raudenbush scattered throughout the park, and the see-through beehive at the Kroger community garden. The gift shop was also quite large and the old ladies working there were very charming. Lovely visit overall!

The garden is always a quiet, contemplative space in any season of the year. The holiday lights are amazing, but year-round Lewis Ginter has something to offer for all ages. There's art, education, a library (including a seed library that you can use to grow your own plants), a wonderful shop that even showcases local businesses, a charming cafe, and of course the gardens themselves. They even offer free days occasionally, so keep an eye out. If you need a break or the gray city is getting to you, I highly recommend the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden.

The bonsai exhibit is very cool. We went in late February so there’s not much to see other than the orchids in the greenhouse. The area is very clean and well-kept. The staffs are friendly and welcoming.

Visited mid April to the wonderful tulip blooms! Excellent orchid display, lots of room to take photos! Would love to visit again when the roses bloom. Great place to take young children to wander in the kids garden!

Today on our visit the gardens were pretty empty. There were quite a bit of things in bloom and it was a nice peaceful walk around the grounds. The grounds overall were extremely clean and well taken care of. The staff that we had interactions with were extremely nice and able to answer any questions we had. This was a really cool place to get to walk around and look at all the plants. All of the plants were labeled as well, incase you wanted to know what something was.

A jewel in Richmond! These gardens are absolutely gorgeous! Well tended and landscaped. We only stayed for 1.5 hours and saw a mere fraction of the place. Admission was free because of our membership at Norfolk Botanical Gardens. Very grateful for that. Their butterfly house is climate controlled and the wide variety of butterflies is amazing. One butterfly took a liking to my blouse. 🦋 The conservatory building had stunning orchids and tropical plants. The stone rose arbors are loaded with blooms. And offer shade if one needs it. Actually there are many benches to rest in the shade throughout the garden. There is a large area with carnivorous plants whose blooms resemble orchids. A turtle was sunning himself. Blue gil fish swim in the many ponds. Highly recommend this place to young and old alike. Looking forward to a much longer future visit.

Came here for the first time during the Christmas light festival. The decorations were beautiful, though initially felt like a sensory overload. Plenty of parking available. Well run event. And the ground had hard top so it was easy for everyone to navigate. Super chilly night and wish I had brought a warm beverage like many others. Now I'm curious to see all the plants inside and definitely will have to come back for a daytime visit.

Yes.it is just as good or better than the web serches rate it. If you're in the Richmond area definitely visit. An extremely wide range of walking mg trails with lots of ares and activities to keep kids of all ages engaged. There's also a very nice greenhouse with butterfly garden off the back of it. It's not too expensive at $17 for an adult, but there multiple discounts. Finally there's a nice cafe and gift shop on the premises.

Amazing experience!! Loved it...all of it. Went on a Saturday afternoon. Went to see the Orchid Show, which was fabulous. It was a wee bit crowded inside the conservatory but it was worth it. The orchid displays were worth the trip. It's late winter but the gardens were beginning to show color. The gardens have really nice walkways. Nothing strenuous. You can even walk on the grass! Children were rolling down the hills. This is a great place for kids. I look forward to my next visit in April; early Spring...everything should be in bloom or almost. Highly recommend this treasure.

Beautiful spot, even with the disappointment of no running fountains. Still gorgeous though! Lots of places to sit and enjoy the scenery. I got lunch at the cafe and it was the best sandwich I’ve had in my life! Definitely make sure you grab lunch here. I definitely will visit again.

Really like this property. Great place to take pictures. Enough variety to keep you busy for awhile. We go during the holidays when they have the Christmas lights up, and it's dog night. Highly recommend checking this place out.

I forgot how awesome this place is to walk around. We went for the Fall festival, which wasn't a festival by my standards but they did have a band playing and some activities for kids. It was nice to walk around and we spent 2 hours for 5 individuals, 2 kids an senior and 2 adults it was $55. I was a nice day out and beautiful scenery can be appreciated anytime of year. Accept maybe winter.

Went on a whim as a field trip with our two year old. Everyone loved it! Spent about 3 hours there. There were flowers and plants I've never seen in real life or pictures before. Hopefully these pictures help entice you to check it out for yourself; but they won't to do it justice. Not to mention, a huge butterfly room. A must see/visit. Go yourself, with friends, or with family. It's beautiful. Kid friendly as well. They do events, too, apparently, so we will be looking for that in the future.

Visited the garden for the holiday lights. The grounds were beautiful and captivating. The process to purchase the tickets and to check in was very easy. There were restrooms upon entry. There was a lot of places to take nice pictures. There was. O food or drink allowed due to having a restaurant. There was apple cider and hot. Chocolate available. But the hot chocolate was so hot my. Holder. Could not drink them h til we got home. So maybe if there was an option to have it cooler that would be good. Otherwise I was pleased.

Enjoyed the Christmas Lights display, don’t forget to go into the conservatory, as well as the library to see the miniature city and train display. Thank you to all the volunteers who make this happen as well.

Whoa! The most amazing light displays for Christmas. Definitely worth it. Came in at 5 and it was dark by 5.15. Finished about 80% of the display by 7 with a 2yo and 3yo. We all were amazed by the displays.

A visit to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Festival of Lights is a holiday tradition for our family. Enjoy a festive, colorful walk after dark through the garden. This year’s light show is beautiful. The kids love the magical holiday garden. It’s truly a great experience for the whole family. The path is paved and can accommodate strollers and wheelchairs. There are some hills to navigate. Don’t forget to visit the conservatory to see the giant Christmas tree. There is also an awesome indoor toy village with trains running through.

We went to visit a few weeks ago and fell in love with the garden. All of the staff were kind and polite. The gardens were well kept. The inside and the restrooms were very clean. We enjoyed our visit so much we became members. Highly recommend Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

Lots of potential but we went during off season when there isn’t too much in bloom. Still enjoyed looking at what we could and reading the signs that explained various information about the park.

It was my first time visiting this location and seeing the lights. I was informed in an email that there is a 30 minute window of entry for your registered time slot on your ticket. this had me worried since I was running an hour late for a 4PM schedule on a Friday, one week before Christmas. Fortunately, I was allowed entry with no hassle. So, not sure how strict or consistent the rules are enforced but this was nice since it was my anniversary weekend and I was surprising my wife with the light show. I would recommend however, arriving at 5-5:30PM at the earliest, anyway, to get the best experience since the sun will just begin to set. But keep in mind, the crowds will start to roll in. Depending on your pace and what your activities and interests consist of, you can complete the experience in as little as 45 minutes or less (fast pace with no stops) or up to a few hours if you choose to stop and take pictures, eat, drink cocoa, warm up at the fire, explore the several exhibits and shop for souvenirs. Overall, a pleasant experience and would recommend for families and cute dates.

For almost a decade, my husband and I have been visiting Lewis Ginter for the Dominion GardenFest of Lights during the holiday season. Each and every year, we are still exhilarated by the anticipation of going, and our expectations are always exceeded. What a joyful sight it was to see that this year’s theme was birds, bugs, flowers and other garden friends. When we first entered the garden, we were amazed by the most beautiful cardinal, our state bird of Virginia, vibrantly lit up against the backdrop of the main building here on the grounds. As we strolled through the garden, we were dazzled by colorful flowers, a mischievous fox, a friendly squirrel and a regal blue heron. One of the most magnificent attractions we look forward to each year is the magical lighted peacock, with his gorgeous plumage spilling out behind him. A few much smaller, decorative peacocks accompanied our favorite fellow this holiday season. Just wandering through the trails was a festive and ethereal experience, especially along the reflective waters of the botanical garden, as the shrubs, trees and walkways were so colorfully lit. Gazing up at the stars above, I noticed that Orion was watching over us the entire evening, and I took a few opportunities to photograph that mighty constellation along the lit trees. A special treat came to life before our eyes this year, as what I affectionately refer to as “the castle on the water” was decorated with the most brilliant warm white lights, which outlined its majestic architecture and made for a stunning reflection on the water. Better yet, we were able for the first time to climb to the top of this castle, to soak in everything around us at a higher vantage point with all its beauty. Not to be forgotten, there is a large building in the garden which features lily pads on the outside and a gallery of orchids within, along with an array of succulents and other foliage. Even this nursery of sorts was decorated festively with lights, filtering different tones upon the plants and flowers, providing an ethereal experience. For that special portrait photo, there’s an enormous Christmas tree, decorated with white lights and winter birds, chaperoned by a welcoming Lewis Ginter employee who offered kindly to take everyone’s photos. It was such a fantastic experience, as this photographer of sorts truly took the best captures of our memorable evening. If you’re looking to warm up while you’re visiting, this is one of the places to do that. Another option for a little respite from the cold was the Espresso A-Go-Go food truck that set up camp to serve us lattes, hot chocolates, and even s’mores. Why, there was a gentleman tending the fire next door to the vendor, so that you could scoop up a fresh stick to toast your marshmallows with before stacking them with your honey graham crackers and bar milk chocolate. We enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate each, as many others did as well. If you were seeking more adult libations, there was a Jingle Bar indoors for you. Of course we didn’t want to miss out on the beauty that Lewis Ginter has to offer year-round, particularly during the warmer months, so this past Fall, we made our way over during the Genworth Free Community Day, on Labor Day 2023. It was delightful to see the botanical gardens in the glowing sunlight, each and every leaf so cheerful, and each and every petal so delicate and beautiful. Lewis Ginter houses a broad variety of plants and flowers, each with its own personality and its own place within the artistic arrangement. The staff at Lewis Ginter have been warm, friendly and helpful on each occasion that we've visited, so we’ll be sure to be back soon!

**"A Magical Evening at the Festival of Lights"** Our family's first visit to the Festival of Lights was nothing short of magical! My four-year-old niece was completely mesmerized by the dazzling array of colors and displays, making the walk through the festival an absolute delight. We didn't miss the chance to explore the plant life in the main greenhouse – a true visual treat! The cozy offerings of hot cider and hot chocolate perfectly complemented the stunning views, making our night exceptionally memorable. A few tips for future visitors: Comfortable shoes are a must, dressing in layers is wise, and for the adults, there's an option to add a little "warmth" to your hot drinks (though we opted out, the choice is yours). In short, it's an experience to enjoy and cherish. We certainly did, and we can't wait to return!

Stunning facility. The different stops are each breathtaking in their own special way. What a great presentation of biodiversity. The pathways are mostly flat but there are some hilly sections. There are so many beautiful flowers, trees, cacti, succulents, and other types of plants. There is a cost for admission ($17 as of 08/2023) but they offer military discounts. Well worth the visit.

An absolutely beautiful place to visit. The property is very large though, so plan on being there a few hours if you want to see everything! The rose garden and butterfly room were my two favorite parts of the garden. They also have a café onsite and the food is so good.

Lovely place to get your steps in. We did go in February, so there is not much plant life outside of the conservatory. Still ver much enjoyed it. We arrived a few minutes after they opened on a Saturday. Staff was friendly and informative. We felt very welcomed. There was staff walking through the grounds, so that was helpful when we had questions. Would I love to see this place in the spring or summer. We'll be back.

Lovely gardens, lots of trails. I wish every plant was labeled somehow, but some weren't. Staff were happy to answer questions, particularly about the plants. There is a large dining room with comfortable seats. And extra surprise is the delicious foods with lots of healthy choices!

This place is absolutely beautiful! Whimsical gardens bursting with life, So much to see and do. The aromas from all the variety of flowers was gorgeous. Such a wide variety of plants to see and explore. I also love how all of them are labeled as to what they are...very educational. Will definitely be going back.

I should have known how busy this place was going to be on free-admission July 4th day but I decided to brave the visit on what has to of been one of the hottest days ever! But the Garden was prepared with lots of volunteers helping in the parking lots, providing water refill stations, manning information stations, everywhere! It's a beautiful place with amazing gardens full of just beautiful plants from all over the world. On this hot day, my favorite spots were of course the shaded gardens and the butterfly exhibit did not disappoint. A must visit for those who love gardens, nature, water, and just vibing with what we all wish our home gardens would look like.

Came here while staying in Richmond for a few days. Even in mid to late September the gardens and attractions are well worth the time to visit and explore. Plenty of walking paths, benches and shady areas. Lovely water features and fountains and exhibits to enjoy. We even happened upon a heron during our walk. When we were here there was a butterfly exhibit to enjoy. We will return to see the gardens in other seasons.

Beautiful gardens. Lovely walking paths and plenty to see! Well maintained and the butterfly atrium is a must! Beautiful gift shop and cafe. It was nice to see a community garden and bee hives! Lots of camelia will be blooming soon! Should be gorgeous. Also if you have kids they should have a great time! So much for them to see and interact with!

That was my first time there. It was so beautiful and very festive! The lights and decorations were awesome and the decorators were very creative. Looking forward to going there in the spring to check out the flowers
