Reviewing the museum as a wedding venue here -- (though we also adore the museum for everything it is). I cannot stress enough how much my wife and I loved having the Science Museum of VA as our wedding venue. We're both academically nerdy, my wife is into trains, and this was the perfect place for us. We worked closely with Chris and he was great! On our first tour we were hooked but we came back multiple times to show the venue to our families and with our wedding planners. Our ceremony was outdoors by the train tracks, cocktail hour in the front portico, and reception in the main entrance. We had a solid rain plan that both my wife and our families felt comfortable with. My wife and I had individual getting ready rooms within the museum and our bridesmaids were able to explore the museum during down time. There was great communication throughout the process and on the day of the wedding. An exhibit was even able to be open during the wedding reception which was a huge hit with our guests! My wife and I had no time to explore it on the day of our wedding but came back the next day and lived it all together, just us. All attached photos are by 3 Cats Photo

Had a great time at the Museum today. I haven't been there in 15 years and the changes were awesome. A lot of great exhibits and things to keep kids of all ages busy. One of the things I really liked is on the second level they had all kinds of workshops for young people. There's a lot to explore here so make sure and take your time. The outside area with the trains and a submarine is actually very clean and neat and a great way to get out of the building. Pricing wasn't terrible. Really have no complaints that building is beautiful being a train station that was built in 1913. A lot of the original ornate decorations are still in place.

The science museum was so good. There are all kinds of interactive activities for kids of all ages. I really appreciate that they had signs showing where noise sensitive guests would be uncomfortable as I have a child with autism. Great place to spend a few hours. The price was reasonable too $17/per person. Fun day.

We absolutely loved the Science Museum of Virginia. We cannot wait to come back because of the experience we had. My wife, my 3 year-old toddler son, my newborn, all were having a great time at the Dome show and all the different exhibits. Not to mention, everything was interactive and awesome for any age... You know the place is good when you are exhausted after being in there for 4 hours but still wanna have fun lol! This was a completely different experience than anything I've been to in NYC or DC. We will be back you awesome museum!

We visited the museum as guests and used it as the venue for our wedding. On both fronts the experience was by all accounts immaculate. As a guest you have access to many interesting and creative exhibits and experiences for a relatively low price (especially as far as entertainment in the area goes). As an event venue you are treated to world class communication and professional coordination which in our case was lead by Shannon. All of our guests were incredibly impressed with the venue and I was impressed with how easy to work with and accommodating everyone there was.

Best science museum I've ever been to. Everything is so interactive, every works, it's FUN for all ages. Spent 3+ hours here with kids ages 1-13 and everyone had a great time; that's impressive. Really enjoyed the different exhibits and the way science is made accessible. *Ironically the visiting Wild Kratts exhibit was wholly disappointing. I hope the museum didn't pay much for the rights because it's just some posters, stuffed animals, and a slide.

Loved coming here throughout the years for new exhibits, then in November 2021 my wife and I had our wedding in the rotunda and rented out the first floor for our reception. Great staff, very friendly and accommodating!

We always enjoy ourselves and learning experience of going to the science museum. If they are still showing it, you should definitely take your family to go see the birth of Earth down in the dome theater! It was amazing!

This was great! With the help of the staff, me and my 3 year old were able to enjoy a showing of Antarctica at the Dome and every available exhibit. Favorite was definitely the 5 & under area which was fun and the perfect pre nap activity to end our trip. The new parking garage made our visit that much better and easier.

Love this science museum! They have rotating exhibits that are always informative but still interesting. It's a great place for all ages. They have crafts, play areas and hands on learning for kids and teenagers. If you live in Richmond it's definitely worth becoming a member. If you are just visiting Virginia it is a great place to stop by with the family! I also appreciate how conscious they are of public health and safety.

Richmond is lucky to have such an amazing place like this! Hours of fun for kids or adults. Easy parking in the new deck! Great prices too. Take some time and enjoy this place. Love imagining what it was like as a train station! My 5 year old had a blast!! Can’t wait to go back.

My kids had a great time. We're able to go free throughout the year with a membership for receiving benefits. I love that everything is hands on! As an adult I definitely had a great time!

Good variety of exhibits, enough to do that we spent the whole day. Kids loved the speed, light, and boost sections. Always cool to see an SR-71 blackbird (hanging over the speed section!). Good balance of fun, hands-on, and informative activities. The museum is in an old train depot, and there a few trains (and a research submarine) you can walk around outside in the yard. It was crowded with school groups from 10-1, but the rest of the time wasn't too busy.

Fun science museum with interactive exhibits. Check the schedule - the live demo with liquid nitrogen was really cool. We also ate lunch there and the pre-prepared food was better than expected.

Great museum. They have so many hands on exhibits. This is an excellent place for children. There are three floors of exhibits to see. Also some really great trains to see in the back. The museum is reasonably priced. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The museum is very well maintained. The building is beautiful!

Wow! Each time we come to visit, year after year, we are never disappointed. There are so many exciting exhibits for all ages. I would recommend the Imax experience as they always have new interactive experiences. The Science Museum has easily accessible parking and snack options inside. The cleanliness of the establishment is commendable.

A top-notch science experience in the heart of Richmond. Accessible displays for children of all ages. We came to watch the sharks: predator or prey exhibit, it had impressive displays of shark teeth and full size shark models, as well as some interactive exhibits. The rest of the museum was equally impressive, with a makerspace, some clever interactive physiology experiences, and an exhibit about speed featuring an SR-71 Blackbird.

I love seeing the SR-71A as soon as you walk in. Fastest air breathing manned aircraft ever built and flown. As a veteran, I was eligible for a discount. I did enjoy the wide variety of exhibits.

Honestly very underwhelming. I'm a science nut & my 6 y.o. grandson "LOOOOVVVEESSS SCIENCE" as he says & we both went for the 1st time today after his botox shots. He has cp & this museum is def NOT handicap friendly in its exhibits. Very few things could He actually do himself so he wasn't "blown away" by anything. Heck we have better hot wheel toys at home. We did arrive after 2 so no dome or art experience to report on hence the 2 star & not a 1 or 2 star. My suggestion? Want even the possibility of it being work $30 for an adult & child make sure you go b4 half the exhibits are closed. I get a better reaction out of him when he looks thru my telescope...Like during the conjunction last yr. "Grandma...I saw the RINGS!" & "I see CRATERS on the moon". So go buy a telescope & really teach your kids to become obsessed with science. And don't forget to watch the ISS cross over us with your naked eyes! Been doing that with him since he was 3! Can't wait til he gets his chemistry set & his microscope for Christmas! Merry Christmas y'all! Even the astronauts are getting their Christmas presents thanks to SpaceX! We've killed this planet...better hope they get to the next rock we need.

Mid September weekday early afternoon was our time of visit. We found way access and minimal amount of other visitors. Lots of interactive displays. Competitive individuals be aware. Overall a very enjoyable visit. We spent less than 3 hours here with 5 adults and one 4 year old. Recommend. We will return. 5 out of 7 stars for a perfect score.

This place was amazing! Three floors and my kids, age 5 and 3 had a great time. We easily spent 4hours and ended with rat basketball.

Super fun interactive museum with tons of exhibits. 9 yr old had a ball there trying to "outrun" different animals, seeing pitching speeds of different weight objects, playing air hockey with a robot. Just to mention a few (like a drop in the bucket) of this amazingly entertaining 4 story museum. One of the best of this kind that we've been to. Definitely recommend.

I had a blast at the museum ! I spent two hours in there but I’ll be back again next month since the dome was closed & I wanted to experience that. I did go by myself but there are a lot of interactive activities for kids and other people. Overall had a great time !

Train exhibit was amazing, so many nicely built train models and lots of fun with the kids. The people are very friendly and will answer any questions you gave about the trains. Admission was quite cheap as well.

Tons of great exhibits for the kids that help them to understand concepts on their level. My kids, 8yo to 3yo, enjoyed the whole experience. The staff was very kind and helpful—it really made a difference!

We went to the Museum after Dark Star Wars event. It was a lot of fun, though not as star wars themed as I thought it would be. Parking was very easy and the dome show was really cool

We’ve been here a few times over multiple years. The exhibits do not get old; and they always have new things to explore and learn. Very happy with every trip we’ve made here, and we will go back again.

This was such a fun place! There are so many interactive things. Kids and parents had a blast! Compared to most museums, I felt the admission was reasonable. Sad that it took us so long to discover what a fun place this is!

This museum is very cool...every couple of months they change the main exhibit...which is cool because it gives you something new to look forward too. It's child friendly and adult Friendly. I had just as much fun as the kids. Right now they're featuring an exhibit about the moon landing which is pretty cool and very Interactive!

Parking is free and tickets are half off after 3:30 since the museum closes at 5. But you don't need much time to go through the whole thing. I recommend going to the labs first since they close at 4:30, but the rest of the exhibits are open till 5. The museum is very interactive and fun. A great place to spend an afternoon having fun learning!

I had a great time, and it's very educational and informative. I only got to see 2 floors of the museum. However, there are 4 floors available to explore. Take a day and discover science and this rock in space that we live on. You will find that it's fascinating.

Definitely a must visit for kids and adults alike. I would suggest going here before the children's museum next door. Got in after 3.30 based on another review that mentioned that an hour is enough here but I disagree. This place has enough for a few hours to engage kids and adults alike so it is better to plan earlier in the day.

By far one of the best places to take kids on a rainy day. They have a variety of exhibits that rotate so there is always something new. The best part is you can touch nearly everything which is great for little kids. Many of the exhibits also have a great deal of info which is nice for the adults. Membership is relatively cheap. The parking garage next to the museum is awesome and it's free. Overall a great experience.
