(Translated by Google) The Franco-English wars of the First Empire gave the rock a very particular strategic importance. In order to control the Saint Lucia canal, the English who besieged Martinique seized the rock and turned it into a veritable fortress with formidable batteries of cannons, and this at the cost of considerable effort given the topography of the rock. The position proved to be impregnable for the French navy which failed in its assaults and the English even ended up attributing to the islet the honorary title of “warship of the navy of his Majesty” by giving it the name of HMS Diamond Rock . The English stayed there for 17 months before being driven out in June 1805 by French forces who attacked their water supplies. ORIGIN: FRANCE! HMS DIAMOND ROCK is the nickname given by the English during their occupation to control the channel. taken over in 06/1805 by the French ... You all misunderstand the English ... like the highway code! In addition, you are on a point placed by a third person and not the real geographical point of the Diamond Rock! the real point having a green fir logo (natural site)! ORIGINE : FRANCE ! A famous HMS Diamond Rock. The name of this rock has a nice history. His (or Her) Majesty's Ship of the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy. HMS Diamond Rock was officially a ship in the United Kingdom Navy. Google it; it’s a true story. Cool story. There were even small battles there.

(Translated by Google) When I saw this rock, a local guide certified me that the English boats that passed offshore honked because for them, the Diamond is English. It is high time that France clarified this and went to plant a tricolor flag at the top. It is Ours this rock.

Ramages Diamond by Dudley Pope is a historical fiction based on the period during the Nepolionic War with the English. The whole novel takes place off Diamond and details the adventures of Capt. Ramage of the frigate Juno during the blockade of the island. Filled with great descriptions of the island, rock and surrounding sea. BTW the chart included in the book is all with original French names. Highly recommended. Unfortunately, this as close as I can get at the moment!

The diamond rock Located southwest of Martinique, in the Caribbean Sea, this volcanic rock 175 m high and 300 m in diameter is approximately 2 km from the coast. It gets its name because of its beveled shape and its reflections that sparkle at certain times of the day. The Diamond Rock in Martinique is a remnant of the island's volcanic activity. Furthermore, it has not always been uninhabited. Indeed, its strategic position allowed it to control the navigation of the Saint Lucia Canal and it was therefore at the heart of numerous battles.

Having dived there for 12 years, I confirm that it is a magnificent spot that we never tire of, for all levels from the north face fault at 20m, to the air bubble cave at 30m, to the caves at 55m in the wall of the drop-off, always facing north for the best known. I confirmed to Stephane that the rock is still considered by the English as a Royal Navy ship (HMS). The English, at one time, organized the blockade of Martinique by positioning a huge cannon at the top of the rock. In fact, the galleons, due to the winds and their limited maneuverability, were forced to go up this coast to arrive at Saint-Pierre and the English could not miss them from this position. We can clearly see the remains of the English camps at the exposed base of the rock and for those who have the courage to go to the top, we can clearly see the place where the cannon was positioned. But I believe that it is forbidden to access the Rock today. For wildlife lovers, the Rock is also home to endemic species of birds that nest in the cliffs. A must-see site in Martinique both on the surface and when diving.
