This room was disgusting! We got in late so there was no staff on the premises which was expected. What was not was opening the door and thinking someone had already been in it. The bed looked like someone had been in it and then haphazardly threw the blanket on to make it, trash, food, and other unmentionables on the floor. The bathroom smelled like stale cigarettes and comet cleaner. Never again! The bartender next door was the nicest part of the experience.

Good morning You charged the whole fee when I even didn’t stay over there any day. I need my money back. I made a request for a free cancellation due to covid and the hotel conditions but you never considered either one. After two months you didn’t return my money nor on cent of it. This is unfair. Please don’t trust this hotel they stole my money the hotel was terrible, unsafe and unhealthy as you can see in the picture. I found it in the bathroom and the hotel was smelling terrible and dirty everywhere.

The hotel is very old and the owners should invest the money to preserve it or sell it to some one who can. It really is a treasure of its time period. I booked to stay 3 nights but checked out after one night. No hair dryer, lock on door easily broken, dirty, and I had mice visit me in the night. Heard rustling and saw my backpack had been chewed into to get to peanut butter crackers. I had to send all my clothes out for laundry when I checked into new hotel. The staff was pleasant but I still would not recommend this hotel. It is dangerous and dilapidated. The city should be notified.

The location is fabulous and was worth the low price definitely but this ancient--230 years, they say-- building needs more attentive maintenance! Stair rug needs cleaning as did shower grout in our bathroom. Lots of little things. Advertising indicated it was a walk up 4 floors with double beds, but should warn the rooms are really tiny and quirky. Management pleasant and helpful but too removed from active engagement.

I booked two nights here, was charged online but couldn't even get into the building! Had to take a picture of the phone number that is on a paper inside behind a locked door and zoom in to see it. When I finally got a hold of someone this lady actually wouldn't come check me in and argued with me that I wasn't charged!! She kept telling me that I could check my bags(?) but no one was even there for me to do that! She kept saying that if they came to check me in I would be charged because according to her I wasn't charged to begin with! She couldn't even bother to check or make an appearance. Don't waste your time and find somewhere else to go!

I have never left a bad review before, but I have to warn others about this place. This was by far one of the WORST hotel experiences I have ever had. There was mold in the shower, stains on the floor and walls, it smelled dirty, and it looked as though the only thing that had been cleaned were the sheets. I was honestly scared to touch anything. I’m not very picky about where I stay, but thinking about being in that room makes my skin crawl...and I’ve slept in dirt before. It also looks NOTHING like the pictures...it’s incredibly dingy and dark. I also felt that the customer service was terrible. If you don’t mind the dirt and odors, then you’ll be fine. But I certainly would not recommend it to anyone; even the $170 I paid for the room (which was relatively cheap compared to other places nearby) was too much to ask for this room.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I was disgusted by the room I was given. It was dirty and small. Not the rooms that was pictured. My nonsmoking room reeked of cigarettes. The room had hair in its showers and sinks from its previous guest. I asked for a refund and was told no problem. They said "we are 95% booked so we don't need your money". I have yet to receive my refund and didn't even stay in the room for more than 5 mins. They will not pick up phone calls or return messages even though I have been calling daily for a week. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. You will be disappointed.

Do Not Stay-Mice, Filthy. I showed up and had to check in at the bar. The hallways were full of random furniture and trash including a mattress leaning against the wall, old boards, and various random pieces of trash. In the room, one bedspread was stained, exposed wires were coming out of the walls, and the floorboards were chewed. This was explained when a mouse crawled out from under my bed while I was sitting. I did not stay the night to see what other horrors awaited. I would not recommend Anyone to stay here. It is filthy and likely a fire trap. This location should not be a hotel

I only stayed here for one night, but my stay was absolutely fabulous. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The indoor pool was amazing and relaxing. At night there was actually a color changing light under the water that lit up the whole pool in various colors. Also, a ton of clean towels available in the pool area for use. The rooms were very clean and had many amenities. The beds were comfortable and the room smelled clean. The guest services desk was very knowledgeable of the area. It's within walking distance from many of the major attractions such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Philadelphia Visitors Center. I will definitely stay here again on my next overnight into Philadelphia.

Last Saturday my two teenage sons & I checked into the Society Hill Hotel. It is not a 'hotel' in one's understanding. It's kind of like a European pensione, no lobby-just an office on the second floor. With that being said, I definitely got what I paid for- a junior suite with a twin & full bed. The location was superb-it cannot be beat! However, if you are a weary traveler who likes comfort, then this is not the place. The cleanliness left much to be desired and my neighbor blasted the TV at all hours. Nevertheless, if you are an intrepid traveler who could not care less for comfort or cleanliness, then THIS is your 'hotel'! The check in lady was so, so sweet & the place offered good coffee & cold, purified water. The Society Hill hotel cured us of our wanderlust and we just wanted to go home after two nights.

I stayed here about 16 months ago, a month before the Presidential election, one night when I got kicked out of where I was living. The price was not bad, 95 dollars for a queen sized bed. It's not that great and is a little dark but its not that bad. I had a scary dream about shadow people the morning I woke up. I thought the place was haunted actually. If you're down on your luck or need a cheap place to stay, I would go here.

We stayed in one of the apartment with my two friends and It was so comfortable, roomy and cool. This just show there are still amazing hotels for amazing prices 👏 But one thing that they need to pay more attention the cleaning, It was not satisfied us 😒 Thank you!

Excellent location - within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and historical sites. The proprietor seems to kind of work whenever with no set schedule when management is actually in the building. There is a lot of potential with it being one of the oldest hotels in the city, so you would think at the nightly rate more would go into upkeep of the facilities. Mostly clean rooms, with a TV and dorm sized fridge. A portable heater and window ac unit was in the room. The beds were comfortable, but came with only a sheet and a blanket - no comforter or other blankets.

Checked in at 10:00 PM, they had me add a no show, got the bartender to let me in. Once in the room was so small none of the doors would open fully. Had to ask for toilet paper the 2nd day there. After there for 3 nights, needed to more to bigger room as the wife refused to stay in such a small room. No linen service, no new towels after 5 days? What's that all about. Parking is off site, three blocks away. The best was no one there was helpful, no assurances from the office, they had a real bad attitude when I asked regarding changing rooms, after thanking with her, she said "Whatever", she just didn't want to hear it or deal with it... Great location, horrible staff or owners! Never again there.

DO NOT STAY HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! Me and my friend were traveling on a low budget and looked at this place on several online booking services where they definitely had some FAKE photos put up. NONE of the rooms on our floor looked like those pictures(doors were open for housekeeping on the entire floor so everyone could just walk in and grab your stuff). Stayed for one night only instead of two. Got our money back after a fight with the rude unprofessional receptionist and left to a more pricey location happily. Room was dirty, smelly, window didn’t open, bath was NAAAASTY, bed sheets smelled like they didn’t get washed for the last century at least, heat didn’t work properly in January. Bugs!! Disgusting “breakfast”, do not eat unless you wanna harm your health. One star is way too much to give for this place. Again, stay anywhere but here!

Horrible hotel. Literally like a nightmare. Dirty, stinky and smelly. We had a non smokers room but it totally smelt like smoke. Barely any AC. To access the bedroom we had to walk trough the bathroom every time. The toilet didn't flush. After I made a complaint to booking, when we came back for the night we found a huge poop in the toilet that neither me or my partner made. There were stains everywhere, the room was too small, the door was not secure and the windows were fixed with plastic and scotch. If you want to have a nice staying you definitely need to avoid this dumpster.

Where do I even begin? VERY cramped, no soap of any sort in the bathroom or shower stall, no bath towels, somewhat limited supply of toilet paper, the electric outlets in the rooms only seem to get power when the nearby light switch is in the "on" position. And, you need to get a key for the front door out of a combination lockbox. And, they (the management) kind of lean on you a little if you don't get the key back to them the next day. This despite the fact that you're still using it, and need it, because you're out on the town, and It's after nightfall when you get back to the hotel, and the lobby on the 2nd floor is closed for the day. Plus, there is some pretty noisy fellow hotel guests in the hallways at hours like about 2-3AM sometimes. And, from what I can tell, there was no security inside patrolling the floors. Speaking of which, we had to huff it up 4 floors if stairs each night to get to our room. All in all, I feel that even 1 star is being VERY generous. A cramped dumpy dive of a place that I think I'd recommend that you avoid.

So I LOVED! the location and the price for the location... However, when we arrived we didn't have towels, the room was dirty, the shower was leaky and moldy, there were a couple roaches, and I found mouse poop in the bed (which could have just gotten stuck to my foot, still gross). There was also no AC which isn't a huge problem in April but the air got stale and warm without the windows open. The closets were filled with old miscellaneous things like a dusty pillow and blanket, picture, and a stereo. The walls are paper thin and we could hear people's conversations loud and clear from the hallway which made it hard to sleep. The locking mechanisms on the door were a bit difficult to lock from the inside too. I pretty much gave it 2 stars only because of the prime location. I'd stay here again, but only for the location.

Booked a night there. There was no access to the building. Called multiple times and no one answered the phone. Not sure what’s up with this place. There are other hotels near by, just go stay at another place.
